Guest Reviews
- Patrick (8/5): -
- Mollie (9/5): - A five minute walk from slow boat pier. Room was very nice for the money and staff weren’t very helpful - had currency exchange facilities and had a station we could buy sandwiches in the morning for the slow boat.
- Julie (2/5): - Emplacement Les photos étaient trompeuses, rien à voir avec ce qu'on a trouvé sur place.
- JUAN PABLO (6/5): -
- ali (7/5): - Clean, large spaces with everything you need. All good
- Laura (6/5): - La chambre est grande
Propre Très bruyant
- Adriana (6/5): Caro para o que oferece - Foi a única que encontrei disponível. Sugiro reservarem antes. Pelo valor não compensa. Eles buscam no pier. O valor é caro para o que oferece.
- Christy (8/5): - Good location, not too far from the boat dock. The room was large and clean, the bed was very comfy. There was no pickup from the dock and the room was right next to the road, so quite noisy.
- Robert (6/5): Exactly what we expected: a budget guest house in a town full of budget guest houses. Cheap, just like the rest of them. - Location good - 5 minute walk up hill from boat dock. Water, a/c worked fine. WiFi sporadic. Bed and pillows fine.
- Dariusz (6/5): - Room Ok for one night, but cold. Cold in the room
- Charlie (8/5): Good value and comfy - Close to pier, comfy beds for 1 night, breakfast was 2/3$ There were creepy crawlies but just kill them
- Sophie (9/5): Highly recommend - I would highly recommend this guesthouse! The owner was very nice, and the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Good location, short walk straight up from the pier. You can pre-order breakfast and lunch with the owner when you check in which was great. I was also able to pay in dollars or Kip which was helpful. It gets very cold in Pakbeng at night in November/December so you need warm layers. It’s also noisy at night with motorbikes and roosters but that’s just the area, so all the guesthouses will be the same. Note that the ATMs in Pakbeng can empty pretty quickly so I would try to bring cash with you.
- Andrew (8/5): - close to slow boat pier. Less then 5 min walk. The owner picked me up from the pier but I could have walked it not much to say
- Louie (5/5): -
- Alicia (7/5): Good -
- Callum (4/5): You get what you pay for - The staff were very nice. When we complained about the cockroach in our room they came down and sorted it straight away. Upon arrival, we were taken down a dingy set of stairs and greeted by a dead rat at the bottom of the stairs. We also got into our room and there was a cockroach on the ceiling so not ideal.
- Beth (8/5): Very good -
- Niall (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kate (8/5): Very good - Good location. Perfect for the one night. Shower worked well too. Nothing, it was all good
- Giulia (5/5): Passable -
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Mcguigan (10/5): Exceptional - Comfiest bed ever!
Perfect for stop over from slow boat
- Izzy (8/5): Very good -
- Bradley (7/5): Good -
- Leon (7/5): Good -
- William (7/5): Good - Sizeable room, picked us up from the Slow Boat pier, breakfast was available to be ordered. Bit of a walk from the pier.
- Elodie (8/5): Very good - Clean room. They pick you up from the slow boat and you can preorder breakfast and lunch for the next day. Really nice staff. Nothing. Was fine for 1 night.
- Graham (8/5): Just what we needed - Super friendly hosts, a good breakfast and nice to have a takeaway lunch for the second day on the boat. Good spot! Shower was freezing. Our room did not have a view (just the street). No biggie for a one night stay though.
- Mark (8/5): Very safe for my bike - The staff were friendly. It was very convenient for the slow boat.
They allowed me to take my bike into my room. I want a light switch by the bed
- Emy (7/5): Good - Super clean and comfortable. Basic but enough for one night after slow speed boat. Location great, you can walk from pier, a bit uphill. I booked room with private bathroom but it was shared one, and its very cold in bathroom because walls are not all the way up.
- Elsbeth (7/5): Surprisingly comfortable for a one night stopover during slow boat trip - Located on the main street near the slow boat landing, with free pickup from the landing and back to the boat in the morning. Room at the back was surprisingly quiet and comfortable. Cleanliness can be improved. Wet bathroom. Bed covers too narrow for a double bed, as often in Laos.
- Swindlehurst (7/5): Good -
- Dominika (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (8/5): Good spot to stay if taking slow boat to Pak Beng - This was a great hotel located very close to the Slow Boat port in Pak Beng. We departed the boat to find hotel staff waiting for us with a sign that had our names on it and we got a ride to the hotel (very short drive/walk). The hotel room was clean, had a running shower, and we were offered the chance to order breakfast which was ready for us to pick up in the morning. The hotel was close to restaurants and was in a great location.
- Rick (4/5): Disappointing - No hot water …
- Emily (8/5): Very good - Ideal for a stop over after doing the slow boat. Comfortable bed, quiet and fans work well.
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Shakira (10/5): Would stay again - Was clean, very comfortable bed, good location in small town for top over slow boat night
- Aiden (7/5): Good - Simple and central and clean. Very noisy fan in the room, can’t use it.
- Henrique (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (1/5): Poor customer service and dirty. - Location is very close to the pier Dirty bed, no hot water, owner overcharged makes up her own exchange rate from dollar to kip and was very rude about it.
- Megan (7/5): Good - Good for the stop for the slow boat, bed was very comfy, nice shower and good AC
- Lauren (9/5): Cheap cozy for the one night - Cheap and clean, amazing value for the night with a nice hot shower
- Steve (5/5): Extremely noisy on the night we stayed. Locals gambling and playing music. - Tried to pay in kip not dollars, manager said rate was higher fir local currency.
Loud music till 2am
- Alessandro (7/5): Good - Good for one transit night in Pakbeng Ok
- Jess (1/5): Avoid! Glad I was only there for 1 night - Location Got bed bug bites from it, we booked on booking.com and was supposed to pay on arrival. When we got there we were charged more even though we showed her the booking price. Cold shower that floods into the main room.
- Emma (7/5): Good -
- Hayley (8/5): Very good - ( slow boat stop off )
Location: 10/10 - near restaurants
Cleanliness: 8/10 - bathroom was ok
Staff: 9/10
Bed: 9/10 - pretty comfy
Space: 8/10
Noise: 6/10 - woken up by roosters, loud music at 6am ( maybe to wake people up so they don’t miss the slow boat )
General: pretty decent guesthouse for 1 night stop over Noise in the morning, not hotels fault
- Charis (8/5): Convenient comfortable stop for slow boat - Great room with all amenities you could need Make sure you notify staff of the $ value of the booking on your reservation - they will try and charge the ‘turn up on the day’ rate to everyone who arrives
- Kate (8/5): Very good - close to slow boat, comfortable and quiet. owners took our breakfast and lunch order and had them ready for us in the morning. also picked us up at the boat too and drove us up the hill!
- Henry (1/5): Bad -
- Rose (10/5): Exceptional - Large, comfortable room, and I loved the pickup from the pier after a long day on the slow boat
- Alistair (8/5): Very good -
- James (7/5): Good -
- Hellman (5/5): Passable - Slowboat night location, was alright, better then expected
- Efthemia (8/5): Clean and simple, good for a night on the River when traveling via slowboat. - Was simple and clean, with comfortable beds. The building is old, and bathroom isn’t ideal, but really no complaints! Very easy check-in, perfect location close to the slow boat pier (walkable so you can get there early and not rely on a tuk tuk) and close to all the things you need.
- Virginia (7/5): Cheap basic but clean overnight stop - We were met at the port to get a lift to the hotel. The room was clean central and comfortable. The owner made sandwiches and breakfast perfect cheap overnight stop It was fine for the price and purpose.
- Olivia (8/5): Very good - Picked us up from the slow boat station. Decent sized room. Got a sandwich made for the slow boat the next day. Really loud chickens/rooster from about 3am, not their fault but just to keep in mind. Although we think the whole town will have the same problem
- Peter (8/5): 10/10 would come again - really comfy beds and sheets chickens making noise in the morning !!
- Laurahayley (10/5): Did the job for the stop off for slow boat - Loved it was close to the peir. The beds were comfortable. The shower was freezing cold. The fridge smelled funny.
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional - Great place for relaxing and great rooms with art
- Hanna (3/5): Don’t book here - Pickup at the pier, ok sleep for the night When arriving with the slow boat there are plenty of rooms available, staff with pictures, you’ll find many equal or better rooma than this, plus they offered arriving people the room for 250k but since we booked here it was 400k. Humid room, moist thin smelly duvets that didn’t feel washed. No hot water. Owner woke us at 8am asking if we are leaving.
- Angelica (10/5): Exceptional - Clean comfy beds perfect for the one night stay travelling from Thailand to Laos
- Sascha (7/5): Good - I was perfectly fine to stay for one night to change the boat to Luang Prabang. No luxury but again fine for one night. Very close to the slow boat pier.
- Dana (5/5): The room is OK, breakfast and lunch box overpriced and very simple. - Charging for the breakfast and lunch box, she made a mistake 2times( in her favor- charging us around 14$(!) more. ).
You can get a sandwich for half of a price and better.
- Sophie (7/5): Good - Free pick up from long boat pier and free drop off in the morning. Had a great night's sleep. Large room. Toilet wasn't working and couldn't flush it
- Davide (6/5): On the way - Transport from pier to accommodation is included
Room clean If you pay in kip, the cost is higher than if you pay in dollar
The guesthouse is on the street, so it is noisy
Sandwich take away (for slow boat) and breakfast possible, but in my opinion a little bit expensive compared to other shop
- Thomas (1/5): Avoid at all costs - Picked up at the pier Bedsheets not washed. Found pubic hair in the sheets
Asked for quiet room. Was assigned room facing street with no glass windows! Only screens. Have never seen this in a hotel
The welcome was nonexistent- she gave us our key and we had to figure out where the room was
Dangerous electrical connection in bathroom
AC not effective
Ok it’s cheap - but at least it could be clean.
- Enkhtamir (7/5): Good -
- Jami (6/5): Pleasant - stayed one night for stop over on long boat. owners picked up from pier which is nice but also only 7/8 minute walk away. booked a double room but ended up with twin rooms. wear earplugs! dogs & roosters constantly making noise all night
- Donna (6/5): Basic Accommodation. Well Located. Very firm mattress - They met us off the slow boat and gave us a lift up to the hotel. Hotel was located near to restaurants etc. Shower was warm, as long as you didn’t have the pressure on high. The room was probably the worst I’ve stayed in on my travels in SE Asia, but probably right for the money it cost. Dated, felt a bit grubby and the bed was rock hard, almost like sleeping on the floor.
- Milet (8/5): Very good - Very helpful staff Stayed only one night, can't say much about the rest
- Joanna (9/5): Wonderful place to spend a couple of days! Thank you - Wonderful place to spend a couple of days! Thank you
- Adam (8/5): Very good - Basic room, quality matches the price.. Good enough for 1 night stay.
Mattress was surprisingly soft and comfortable.
Pickup at boat pier was appriciated! Roosters behind building were crowing all night. TV didn't work.
- Mark (7/5): Great bed! - Best bed I stayed in for some time. Definitely enjoyed that sleep. It was clean and quiet and no one bothered me all night. The shower was hot enough I guess. The women working the check ins was nice but not the best with english. Make sure you remind her of your take away order in the morning because she forgot and almost made late for the boat Definitely too expensive for that area of Laos. No way a room should be $20 for 1 night. I wanted a big bed after 8 hours on the slow boat so I cant complain, but it was more than I spent for 1 night than I did in 3 nights in Luang Prabang
- David (6/5): Pleasant - It was a small room in a small hotel in a small town. The room was more expensive than the average in Laos, but so is the town, too. Profiting, ripping off the never-ending stream of tourists on the river.
- Tomasz (5/5): Below standard and scams - The fact I could book it in advance via booking.com was the main reason as I didn't want to look for a place last minute after leaving the boat.
Bed was comfy but pillows to hard and thick. The room had some problems with electricity and plumbing. Shower was dropping all the time so the floor in the bathroom was wet. Water from the sink goes on the floor. The toiled wouldn't stop refilling water so it made the noise all night until I closed the valve. The light in the bathroom was impossible to turn on at some point, so we used the portable torch. The only way to switch on and off the bedside lamp was by twisting the bulb.
We were overcharged about 10-15% which is not a lot of money considering low price of the stay in general, but it leaves a bad taste.
I don't have any comparison among properties in the village so can't say if it gets much better elsewhere, but I'm definitely not recommending this one. So far one of the worst places I stayed in.
- Beth (7/5): Fine for one night - Pick up from the slow boat, organised breakfast and lunch for the next day Nothing, fine for one night
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- May_vivong (7/5): Good - Easy to find food Too loud at night since the guesthouse is located near the main road
- Watson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bethan (10/5): Short but sweet - Perfect one night stay. You have everything you need for a great price in a good location including free pier pickup and drop off for the boat.
They get you there early so you can get a good boat spot!
Good price and the owner is absolutely amazing. Nothing
- Amie (8/5): Very good -
- Olivia (10/5): Great - We stayed here while stopping off from the slow boat from Thailand to laos and it was great as owner picked us up from slow boat and then dropped us back off the next morning! She made us breakfast and a sandwich for the 2nd day of the slow boat journey! Nothing
- Joshua (3/5): Poor -
- Kaloyan (10/5): Unexpectedly good accommodation! - I was quite surprised to see the quality of the service (after reading some of the latest reviews). Our room was fully furnished and there were no bugs.
However, we got a room in Thip Phavan Guesthouse and I don’t know whether this is the usual accommodation offered by Thipphaphone.
- Mark (8/5): I had a great hot shower in the morning. - It is a small village area and because the slow boat stops there the people/businesses try to provide and cater to many of the visitors needs. They close late in the evening and start again early in the morning servicing customers. Our staff was great.
They took us back to the boat early and we beat the crowd. Which made it very comfortable rather than hectic, unlike for some others. No time to look around the area much, short stay.
- Christiaan (7/5): Good -
- Lucipher (6/5): Room was ok for the slow boat. Good value for money -
- Arnoud (9/5): Perfect for a night - Pick up from pier was super friendly.
Paying with thai baht no problem -
- Kate (8/5): Very good - Comfy and good Wi-Fi. Fine for one night stopover for slow boat
- Aine (5/5): Passable -
- Grace (5/5): Passable -
- Nicola (10/5): An amazing stay! - The manager Kim is absolutely fantastic, she made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived and helped us with our bags. They upgraded our room to an upstairs room for comfort and Kim always gave us great recommendations and helped us wherever she could. She spoke great English so no miscommunications. It was always clean, they gave us new towels each day. Shower was always hot and good water pressure. Air conditioning and a fan in our room, both worked great. There was a dresser off the floor to put bags on and a rail to hang clothes. I had stained a dress and Kim came to the rescue and helped me to save my dress! She helped us book day trips and train tickets and also let us hold our baggage at the hostel. We enjoyed it so much that we are returning next week when we head back to Luang Prabang. You won’t regret staying here. Not a negative, just a heads up that the hotel uses their own exchange rate to pay in LAK at the property. Booking.com displays in your home currency. We had USD cash with us so payed in that as they accepted dollars and the rate was better! :)
- Lina (1/5): Room no view no pickup only walk to the hotel very far -
