Guest Reviews
- Doug (7/5): -
- Yvonne (2/5): Grim and Very disappointing. - The view , the location, the clean bedding and hot water. The origional features were dirty. The cracked dirty worktop tiles in the kitchen (nowhere clean to prepare food), the grubby old appliances, sticky crockery and filthy cups the dirty bath, chipped sink and cracked loo. The filthy stained floor around the loo and sink. Very poor reception on TV. The awful futon bed /sofas . The overpowering smell of bleachy chemicals. General shabbiness of the property overall.
The dismissive attitude of staff at Cornish Riviera Holidays. There level of expection when booking a holiday cottage for£728.36 that wasnt met. I understand why this property was one of a very few left when I booked.
- Katerina (5/5): Passable -
- Griffin (8/5): Very good -
- Doctor (2/5): Dreadful. Given the competition in the short holiday letting market, we would like a refund. - Location fine in relation to sea and St Ives town, despite no parking (as warned by the details). But the location at night is a nightmare due to passerby traffic (drunk, loud, invasive). This is a not a good location for a deep sleep and a rest. Our experience at Slantways was a complete disaster for our one year anniversary. The cottage is not just incredibly small but has not got proper bedding. The pull out futon is impossible for two people to get a proper night's sleep together. We ended up having to sleep separately on the second and third nights before we cut our stay short by three nights. The hot water tank comes on automatically in a cupboard next to the pull out bed. More noise and disruption. The water system is inconsistent (taps run and then stop). The bath - quaintly small - desperately needs a shower system for all travellers into swimming and surfing (as we are). It's a complete eco nightmare having to run a bath every time you come back from the beach. And hair washing is impossible.
We knew that there was no internet. Fair enough - but that's not going to help this property let in the future.
We have no objection to the overall age and style of Slantways, but the landlord and Booking.com and Cornish Riviera need to be mindful of charging a high nightly rate next to extremely outdated, unmodernised and inefficient facilities.
When, after two nights of sleeplessness and frustration, we explained our issues to Cornish Riviera we were met with intransigence and defensiveness ("People like the old style of the property, we we not aware of the problem with the futon, etc..."). The agent then made themselves unavailable and refused access to the property for us to pick up a computer lead left behind, only leaving a message and leaving 4 hours notice...by which time we'd moved to a different Booking.com accommodation (Sennen Cove - outstanding). They appeared in a hurry to re-let the property over the 8-9 July weekend. Rude, and unhelpful. And we will be requesting the agent politely to return the computer lead by post.
- Jill (8/5): Perfect location and we made the best of the stay. - Great location close to the harbour Property in need of refreshing, kitchen area in particular. Range stove and electrical appliances grubby.
Lack of storage for clothing as cupboards were filled with ‘stuff’.
A shower would be a useful addition.
