Guest Reviews
- Maarten (9/5): - beautiful room, very authentic style. location was ideal to navigate the city I think the japanes style beds could have had a more solid matras and the blankets on top instead of blankets directly on top of the tatami floor.
- Tubio (10/5): It was a pleasant experience in Kinparo. The room is spacious and clean. The toilet and bath was clean too. Water pressu - Very accessible
- MASAKI (7/5): -
Traditioneel ingerichte kamer Niets
- Sean (10/5): Great place to stay in Kyoto - This was a nice, quiet place to stay with very courteous and helpful staff. The location was great, just a few minutes from the covered market it was about 25 minutes' walk to the old part of Gion. The breakfast were wonderful. I would recommend this property. Can't think of anything
Bains publiques parfaits.
Laverie a disposition.

- Amanda (9/5): Great Room, Helpful Staff - Really liked the experience with a Japanese style room. It had tatami mats for the floor, ample space, and the futon style beds (the staff set these up each day). It was very clean and the housekeeping put fresh flowers in the room. Staff was helpful and polite The only thing was the door. It was difficult to lock
- Sveinn (9/5): A memorable and authentic stay, highlighted by a wonderful onsen experience - Our first stay at an authentic ryokan was a wonderful experience. We especially loved the onsen in the basement. The staff were helpful, and the room service was excellent, seamlessly transforming the space from a living area to a futon setup and back again. While still charming, the hotel is showing its age and would benefit from some updates.
- Ivanka (9/5): Amazing location in a traditional ryokan - Amazing location near Nishiki. Clean and well maintained. Nice traditional Japanese room with futons. The first night the futon was laid out single and was too thin, they did double it up without us asking for the second night.

- Marti (9/5): Kinparo was the perfect ryokan for me in terms of location, onsen experience, and quality staff. - The size of the hotel was perfect for me: not a mega hotel but not teen, and it had an elevator. The style was exactly what I wanted, with an onsen, and breakfast option. The staff was extremely helpful, with the desk staff speaking English well. Location was perfect--less than a block from Nishiki Market, a short taxi ride from the train station, and walking distance to/from some cultural attractions and interesting neighborhoods. My onsen kimono was removed while I was at breakfast so I didn't have it to use for a morning visit.

- Claire (8/5): Relaxing hot bath on the doorstep of Kyoto’s market street - Excellent location, helpful staff. Good traditional breakfast, with efforts to accommodate vegetarian diet. Public bath is a bonus.
- Jessica (9/5): Perfect location and very clean and comfy rooms - The location was perfect -- so close to Nishiki Market but was very quiet at night. The staff was polite and attentive. Their English was not great, but we were able to communicate using Google Translate so it wasn't an issue at all. Someone who can't speak Japanese and is not adept at using Translation apps may find the experience communicating with the front desk challenging.
- Anthony (9/5): -
- Bobbie (9/5): - Location. Location. Location And onsen is included with stay. I experienced a traditional Japanese living style. Now I know tatami is too stiff for me!!!
- Carine (8/5): - Great location. Nice and authentical ryokan. Typical breakfast. Honsen available in the building. Private bathroom really small. Quite expensive compared to other accommodation .
- Federico (10/5): -
- Letizia (10/5): Ottimo soggiorno - Posizione strategica. Struttura e personale eccellenti.
- lk.75 (10/5): - - perfect location
- Ryokan experience
- staff
- Inna (10/5): Great ryokan style hotel - Excellent location. Loved the onsen and ryokan style room. The staff were very helpful and patient with us No complaints,
- Verena (10/5): Exceptional - The room was big and the whole experience felt very authentic.
They laid out the futon beds while we were out in the city, and they removed the beds again while we had breakfast.
The breakfast was amazing. It they had a huge variety and it was very tasty.
Everyone was really friendly.
- Nikolay (10/5): Relaxing heaven in the heart of busy city - I liked everything there: perfect central location (big food market “Kitchen of Kyoto” just in two blocks away), outstanding service super kind and welcoming, unique atmosphere, delicious traditional breakfasts with helping ladies with whom I fell in love, great and relaxing onsen with water infused with green tea. Just a paradise in the busy city. By the way, there is a delicious gyoza restaurant next door recommended by the Michelin Guide. Went there twice during our 3-night stay. I liked every bit of it. Might be a little pricey if you’re a solo traveler. But if you share, then it’s perfectly reasonable.
- Eshan (8/5): Very good - Slight smell
- Aleksei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Konstantin (8/5): Very good - Polite stuff.
Large room
- Boon (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Authentic experience.
Breakfast was incredible
Staff don't speak a lot of English, but really go above and beyond to help. The breakfast was great but not for everyone.
- Nipoan (6/5): Good but can be improved - Everything was great - but staff speak very little english. Very difficult to communicate when we need to use translator all the time.
But in terms of experience its great - like its the middle of kyoto - clean and loving jap futon bed
- Dimitrios (10/5): JAPANESE STYLE HOTEL - Greta hotel with Japanese style rooms, we recommend All good
- Amanda (7/5): Overall nice and pleasant for short stay - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Nice turn down service in evening when we arrived back after a day of sightseeing and our futon beds had been made for us. Made use of onsen, luckily had it to myself both nights as you have to be naked in them. Giving hotel key each time we leave is fine but when you return, only stating the room number with no check of ID made us feel it was a bit unsecured that anyone could have access to our room. Although there is a safe it was locked so we didn’t worry about using it. On checking out was informed of 800Y foreign tax charge which was expected to be paid in cash. Would have been good to do this on checking in to allow us to have appropriate cash amount prepared.
- Anca (10/5): Exceptional - Sleeping in a Ryokan is a must when coming to Japan. It was a great experience for us and we had really good sleep on the futon beds.
- Julie (9/5): Superb - Location, room was comfortable and quiet, public bath was great A little stuffy, A/C underpowered
- Cheyanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frank (10/5): Perfect ryoken experience in a beautiful room - The staff were welcoming and happy to store our luggage both before check-in and after check-out. The room was clean and beautiful, our first experience of ryoken set a high standard for the rest.
- Lan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Simona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucie (10/5): Amazing Japanese experience - The location is really nice. The breakfast experience for foreigners is amazing. The rooms are clean and the staff incredibly nice. Nothing
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Sutrisno (10/5): Perfect! Nothing else. - Everything!
Located conveniently near everything.
Nishiki Market & Yamato Express just at the doorstep.
Convenient Store, Pharmacy, Malls, Bus Stop, many foods are within walking distance.
Traditional ambience of the hotel.
The lobby has a nice fragrance. I think its some kind of roasted tea leaf fragrance.
Room was comfy, clean, and spacious.
They gave us free small treats everyday, usually sweets, and different every single days.
Public bath also nice and clean.
Went in everyday and get a good night sleep.
Very friendly Staffs.
Some can't speak english, but they put effort to it and use a translator device.
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Stay was very accessible to multiple attraction. The staff was so friendly. The open bath is so relaxing, especially after a day of walking. I opt to try the traditional breakfast and had no regrets. All is good
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was exceptional
- Neridah (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the experience of staying in this beautiful tradition Japanese Ryokan. The staff were very welcoming. Loved the futon beds the traditional room and having the onsen. Fantastic location
- Abby (8/5): Great place to stay with family - Super convenient to the metro stations and lots of shopping Nothing
- Alexandra (8/5): Amazing experience - The staff is amazing

Very large room Maybe the bathroom is a bit old, but nothing to complain about.
- Soojung (8/5): Very good - The hospitality of the staff members
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - Well located near the shopping district on a quite street.
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Great location!
- Philip (9/5): Great traditional stay in central Kyoto. - Fabulous location. Great onsen! Futons weren’t the comfiest- but hotel provided extra, so it was all good.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lanqing (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolas (9/5): Superb - Nice room, very clean and great location
- Mila (8/5): Very good - Location, close to markets.
Onsen in the hotel was fantastic.
Friendly staff and trying to help despite of language barriers.
- Pierre-damien (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location close to train and subway stations and all major attractions in Kyoto. Incredible service and cleanliness. Very enjoyable public bath. Tasty Japanese breakfast. Communication could be improved.
- Amy (10/5): Amazing staff, facilities, and location - Despite our mutual language difficulties, the staff were very courteous, able to answer our questions, and provided excellent service. Their green tea onsen was very pleasant and warranted multiple visits. Nishiki Market was only a few blocks away! We didn't realize that the futon beds would cause an issue with one party member's back. Fortunately, the staff was able to add extra layers and made the stay much more comfortable.
- Woodrow (8/5): Very good -
- May (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - The traditional breakfast was amazing. The staff are super friendly. The bath house inside the hotel was lovely. Just one bath but great for the end of the day. We liked everything about this place. Right next to Nishiki market. Only a couple stops to Kyoto station. Great location.
- Yeung (10/5): Excellent Service - I cannot praise the hotel service enough! Our family absolutely loved our stay here. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel truly at home. We'll definitely miss this place and will be enthusiastically recommending it to all our friends. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
- Trish (10/5): Exceptional - We loved staying here! Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious!
- Stefanie (8/5): Great location - Great location, nice hotel, nice small spa in the basement, everything that was needed was there. Could leave the luggage there on the checkout day.
- Dung (8/5): Very good -
- Yvonne (9/5): A traditional ryokan in a fabulous location - Traditional ryokan in a very central location . We tried the baths which were wonderful plus the breakfast which was served in supreme style . Loved the futons which were put out nightly and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and plenty of written instructions . Nothing
- Vanessa (10/5): Smells amazing like toasted tea throughout! - The hotel was clean, quiet, and smelled so lovely of green tea that it made all our other stays seem boring! The sento baths were of green tea also, and were just lovely. The common areas were beautifully staged, inviting and clean. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room which was surprisingly beautiful, with relaxing lighting, a lovely tea nook, and fresh flowers. The traditional breakfast served was extremely filling and it was fun to make our own tofu! The only thing we struggled with at this hotel was the lack of outlets. We had to search high and low to find an outlet to plug our phones into, much less make a cup of tea. If there were outlets in a discrete place, we did not find them.
- Liliane (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (9/5): Great location in Kyoto Gion, two steps from market - We really liked our stay at Kinparo.
The staff was very friendly (even if not all of them speak English very well, they did their best to meet your needs).
Every evening the futons were made ready for us. First time for us sleeping in a Ryokan and we found it more comfortable than we thought!
Overall, it was a very special experience.
The location of the hotel is great, literally two steps from the market. Also, walking distance from the station and pretty much from all sites in Gion. The hotel feels a little like a business hotel from the 60/70s, which is not what we were expecting.
When we booked a Ryokan style hotel, we had something different in mind.
The room did have a traditional Japanese style though, which is what we wanted.
- Natividad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Li (9/5): Staff’s hospitality made to up for any shortcomings. Traditional ryokan and loved to have your own bathroom. - Amazing Staff and very clean Tiny toilet.
- Karen (10/5): Delightful Ryokan / Japanese Style hotel in a great central location - This was our first and only stay in a more traditional Japanese hotel and it was wonderful. The rooms are beautifully detailed with tatami matting and sliding panels. Lovely extra touches such as laquered bowls and fresh flowers. The staff were delightful and we enjoyed the most wonderful Japanese breakfasts each day. There was so much delicious food on offer.
The bedding was made up for us each day and the futons were very comfortable. Also the location is great, close to the Nishiki market and great shops, restaurants and places of interest. Nothing, It was a wonderful experience.
- Helen (10/5): For my first stay in Kyoto it was an absolutely delight, I loved it - Absolutely everything from the traditional sleeping area to the most delicious breakfast every morning. Nothing
- Chris (10/5): A very pleasant stay in Kyoto. Nice room. Great breakfast. Excellent value. - The location is in the middle of Kyoto. It's pleasant 1 mile walk to most key attractions - Gion, the main temple, the palace, the castle, etc. There is a metro station a few hundred yards away. Shops and restaurants are all nearby, as well as some museums. Our room was a tatami room - spacious, clean, and attractive. Breakfast was very nice, and a key feature of staying here - one of those traditional Japanese breakfasts with dozens of small dishes. I thought it was better than most other breakfasts I have had in Japan. The staff were really good at giving guidance for confused foreigners. For the price, I thought this was an excellent place to stay in Kyoto and I will be staying again when I next visit. No complaints about the hotel. The hotel is a bit hidden away in a back street, so you won't be getting much of a view from your window. Some people would prefer somewhere more scenic, but in Kyoto you would be paying a lot more for a view. Personally, I quite liked the back streets here - there are lots of everyday things to find nearby, Kyoto is very safe, and you are on the main shopping street in a few seconds,
- Roxana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (8/5): Very good - The staff were wonderful. The room was great and the onsen was very good The hotel is a little old and could do with a bit of renovation. A couple more electric sockets and an easier way to plug in the kettle would help
- Michael (10/5): Traditional Japanese experience in the center of Kyoto - Wonderful traditional Japanese experience. Well curated breakfast and spacious rooms. Great location and very friendly staff. Loved it all!
- Doreen (9/5): Solid find, fabulous location & experience in Kyoto for the value. - Location is fantastic, right in the heart of main shopping district but set off a small street so quiet and calm. 2 mins from Starbucks, metro stations 300m away and bus stops right on Main Street.
Generous breakfast spread beautifully set out in a nice traditional room. The staff are older, very experienced and attentive. Property is slightly dated but it is the style of such a property. Nice public bath, has all the amenities for a comfortable stay.
- Laura (8/5): Hotel was great. Rain every day was a bit gloomy. - Great location! Amazing Japanese breakfast. Very lovely staff. Room was too warm and not enough ventilation.
- Aneta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, nice japanese breakfast, very friendly staff
- Sharon (9/5): Had a wonderful stay at Kinparo. My family also got to experience traditional breakfast which was delicious - Clean and comfortable.
Nice onsen. The futons were a little thin.
- Douglas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (6/5): Great location, average hotel - Great location. 30metres from nishiki market and short walk to metro. Walk to gion.
Very very quiet and good blockout curtains.
Spacious room with full size fridge if you over-bought at the market.
Friendly staff. There was no garden that I could see, but maybe that was the construction zone. It's really an average/pleasant hotel, not worth the current score of 9.
My knees won't allow me to enjoy the japanese floor beds!
- Cherie (9/5): Superb - I like the green tea hot bath very much, this is really different from the hot baths from other hotels. And I like the tea aroma at the ground floor near reception counter.
We were there during Japanese New Year and we received new year gifts from hotel, thank you very much, we love them.....
The location is perfect, very close to Nishiki Market, and many restaurants at the surrounding, no worry for the food. Nothing
- Catherine (8/5): Good location - Good location
- Russell (9/5): The calming experience you want from a ryokan with the convenience of being in the middle of a city! - We were surprised how close this ryokan was to everything in Kyoto. For how cheap this hotel was, we were shocked how close it was to the Nishiki Market Street! We would 100% return to this ryokan. Breakfast was utterly fantastic and was different both days we attended it. I'm not the biggest fan of cooked fish, but I enjoyed every dish that was served to me! Men's onsen was clean, calm, and very nice. Lastly, we weren't sure when booking if there was going to be a private toilet in each room, so let me clarify that here for anyone wondering the same: our room had its own shower room and its own toilet room. There was an additional public men's room and women's room on our floor. So this ryokan has both private and public bathrooms (which would be helpful if you had more than 2 quests in your room).
- Ruri (10/5): Wonderful! - Loved the ryokan and its location is absolutely perfect! Right in the center of the city!
