Guest Reviews
- Romero (4/5): -

- Beatrice (8/5): A unique experience! - This place is special! It is both close to the seeside - it has access to a nice small beach - and to the local community's village. One can appreciate the Carribian See and have a very local experience in a simple but genuine environment.
The staff is extremely kind and collaborative. They organize short boat trips around the islands, giving an inside on the bright and dark sides of living on the island.
Dahlandia is the last corner of slow and low impact tourism in an area surrounded by luxury tourist facilities. Be ready for a very local experience!

- Belen (7/5): -
- Brunette (2/5): We left halfway through our stay because of how awful it was. Not only is the island covered in garbage and broken glass - The main hut had neat decor, and the “beach” was private. They changed our room from 1 king bed to two smaller beds without charge. Where to begin. The bathrooms (outhouses) constantly smelled awful. The entire place is in a state of disrepair and staff are hard to find if you want or need anything. Glass all over the ground, with naked kids playing around the area. There is no wifi as advertised. The very expensive rooms are huts precariously placed on driftwood poles, so they sway creak and groan in the wind as though they will collapse at any moment. The door lock mechanism is just two pieces of electrical wire nailed to the outside, with a rusty hinge on the inside. You can’t actually swim on the private beach, because the water is only about a foot and a half deep for hundreds of meters out and the ocean bottom is covered in rocks. No hot water for showers. Food although fine is ridiculously expensive but to be fair that’s the standard on the island I guess. Owners were cold and offputting. Could not recommend the place less.
- Elisha_schuetz (8/5): Very good - Great location directly at the sea on beautiful Isla Mucura. Very nice hosts!
- Henry (2/5): A complete let down and waste of money. - The actual location is nice, right next to the sea and with a little private beach, although it is next to the locals village which was blaring music day and night on Sunday. Food was good, but we were never given a choice, and considering the price it was pretty basic. We also left at 7am on the last day on a boat (arranged by the hotel) and asked if we could have breakfast before (breakfast was usually at 7.30am), but they couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed 30 mins earlier (we were the only guests in the whole ‘hotel’). Where to start. The hosts were possibly the least attentive hospitality workers I’ve ever encountered in my life. Everything was a chore for them, if we wanted a beer in the evening we had to go find one of them and they’d act like you’d just asked them a massive favour. Never once we were asked if we needed anything, and bear in mind we are a young and very easy going couple and this was meant to be a treat for my girlfriend (we have stayed in hostels for £4 a night where we have had better service). I paid extra for “100% off food and drink”. All this meant was we got two extra, pretty basic meals (rice and fish). The “100% off drink” didnt even include water, it just meant a cup of squash with lunch and dinner. The bar in the pictures was not open, and the whole place felt tired and neglected. If you do decide to stay here (you shouldn’t) make sure to bring lots of water and snacks as you’re basically on boot camp. The tours they offered were very expensive, and there was little else to do on the island. I do not recommend this place one bit, take your money elsewhere.
- Juan (1/5): Bad -
- Sven (9/5): Great place to stay in Mucura - Great location and beach for the guests, the manager is really cool and helpful with getting a lancha to a different island. Delicious food :) Overall it was great, just the room could’ve been a bit cleaner but it was fine!
- Dominique (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (8/5): Very good -
- Florez (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sara (8/5): Lovely - Dahlandia is a special place where you find Lovely staff Jose and Luis and delicious fresh food! The place is amazing and magic surrounded by the sea and nature!
- Gulen (8/5): Great location, basic accomodation - Very good location, nice snorkelling spots right in front of the hotel, tasty food, very quiet, ideal for relaxing. Very basic rooms, limited hours for showering, drinking water is very expensive.
- Jen (1/5): Extremely basic, dirty, in much need of TLC. - Location was good and a new owner could make this place so much better Shared bathrooms (cubicles reminiscent of public parks) which are NOT CLEAR on the booking. Dirty, dingy and unkempt. cubicle doors wouldn’t lock and toilets wouldn’t flush. Rooms very exposed to the elements with exposed wiring and unsanded wood (splinters). Mosquito nets with holes in them and covered in dead bugs. Lack of security. Wifi very poor. “Fitness room” is nothing more than an outdoor area with a few handmade weights. Supposed to be all-inclusive but water had to be paid for, lack of options on the food.
Described as a hotel but felt more like a 1-star hostel. Rating and advert are very misleading; DO NOT STAY HERE!!
- Valentina (1/5): There’s better places in that same island, i dont recommend this. at all. - nothing much Im honestly not sure why this has such good reviews. Its literally the oldest dirtiest place i have ever been to. The ‘professor’ blames it on the government saying they don’t care about the islands but literally everywhere else around the place has nicer rooms, cleaned bathrooms and better facilities for about the same price they offer. They lie and say its the ‘island experience’ but it does not have to be like that. The sheets in the room were dirty and everything looks so old and not well kept and unhygienic. It’s a white old guy with black people working for him, does that sound right?
- Elodie (8/5): Very nice, authentic, and quiet place to relax and discover the island. r - Location is amazing, very quiet. Liked being closed to the village to share with the locals. Room, common spaces were clean. But an effort could be made regarding the cleanness of the property (some empty cans, bottles, etc. Sitting on the grass, pathways, or near the “small peer”). It would be easy to pick them up. We stayed there 2 nights and it looks like that there were there for a while and no one from the staff put them in the garbages.
- Ricardo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stephane (10/5): Unforgettable!! - Everything, but specially the food and the staff! Nothing, but I must admit that it could look much better with some maintenance :)
- Sue (10/5): A very special and simple coral island experience. - Authentic island experience. Friendly atmosphere and excellent food in our inclusive package (fish and fruit juices every day, lobster available extra). Excellent and very interesting snorkel tour on the reef and lagoon Sunset views. A bit of a rubbish problem locally.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - We really liked the location and the place. It's perfect to calm down from the stressful life in Cartagena. The food was simple but really good. It was very easy to get in connection with other travellers - like a little family. The sunsets every evening were amazing! The owner explanes a lot of the history of this island - but he only speaks spanish (and the rest of the staff too) that made the communication a little bit difficult. They offer tours directly from the hotel - they are great but also only spanish.
We had great, calming days at Dahlandia!
- Evelyne (9/5): Relaxing - A nice relaxing place. Very well located for the sunset.
Rooms with seaview are the best option.
- Jessica (10/5): An incredible way to turn off and force my digital detox! The food was incredible, definitely enjoyed the beach and the - It was tucked away and isolated and the beach was incredible! The staff were so attentive and handled everything with ease.
All the meals were delicious! A little more rustic than we were anticipating - no mosquito nets on beds but luckily only a few bites.
- Aina (8/5): Nice for a couple of days -
- Fabio (9/5): Superb - The food is good and the view is wonderful. The whole place it's a bit old, but I like places that are not super fancy, so ok...
- Alisa (9/5): A refuge for nature’s lovers who don’t need super comfort - The place is located right on the small clean beach. Managed by a biologist in retirement and his sun, it has an authentic island spirit which I loved.
The food was abundant especially the first day (we’ve stayed 2 nights). And it arrives on time. The staff is really nice and helpful. They also offer tours to discover local nature. The accommodation is simple and spartan id say but clean and just enough for being in the nature, there’s everything you need. Be prepared that there is a bar which is opened until 23:30 with a loud music which you can hear from the room.
The territory could be cleaner (in some points close to the sea).
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marco (7/5): Could be a jewel with little more care and upgrades. The price is definitely too high for the offering - Wonderful location by the sea and typical huts The place is overall not well kept. Toilets where uncomfortable compared to hostel standards, rooms not clean and staff quite unresponsive. The full board is very similar from day to day.
- Campos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danique (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Super nice hosts, lovely to wake up with seaside view.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing two day stay at Dahlandia. We loved amazing location, peace and quiet, and how friendly and helpful the staff was. I would have stayed way longer!! It is far removed from the luxury and crowds from other places, so expect to be have it all more for yourself, but you also need to be happy to have more basic facilities. If that is on for you, you will love it.
- Tom (4/5): Basic accomodation in a good location - delicious fresh fish included in the price, great sunset views, and unlike Tintipan we could freely walk around the island easily from the property The all-inclusive food didn’t accomodate dietary requirements (one of us was quite hungry as a result, with no option to cook for ourselves). No drinking water available, despite being all-inclusive. One resident mangy cat pestered us for food while we ate and had an open wound, wiping blood on the concrete, which wasn’t cleaned. The rooms are very basic and our bathroom was dirty when we arrived. our room shared a wall with the main dining area, where the staff sat watching loud movies on their phones. there was a language barrier, which made communication difficult (e.g., the water taxi they sent to collect us arrived two hours late and with no explanation). when we arrived instead of a tour of the property and explanation of the facilities, their focus was on getting our money and trying to tempt us into buying additional tours.
- Traveler2022 (8/5): Great views. Quietness and relaxation 10/10 - Beautiful small beach. Nice and quiet place. Good for snorkeling. Staff attentive to guest needs. Water is scarce. Cleanliness at washrooms may be improved.
- Nolwen (9/5): Superb - Lovely hosts in a simple but clean place. Perfect for some time away from the buzz of Cartagena. Great for backpackers and travelers in search of an earthy experience. The food was delicious (all included) and the tours of the flora and fauna were wonderful! Secret haven I warmly recommend.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional - A little piece of heaven on earth, loved this little resort. Quiet, sea 2 mins away to help you drift to sleep, food amazing, rented kayak and great trip to see illuminese plankton. Only stated 1 night, needed a week here. Will be back Shower pressure could have been better but it got me clean
- Līga (10/5): Affordable piece of paradise! And all the possible activities offered. - Very authentic and beautiful place and the owner is a biology professor and likes to talk if you are listening. Also the sunset is exactly at their property front and the sheep are funny. Can’t walk barefoot because of the sheep droppings 😅 Some things could be a bit better kept, but new facilities are being built and bettered.
- Salma (8/5): simple island life, quiet - beautiful quiet private part of the island, property is very simple and nice food was simple, tasty, but having same food for lunch and dinner for 4 days was too much. they need more variations in the food and more fruits. Also no filtered water available so bring your own water bottles.
- Francesca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gaetan (10/5): Exceptional - The staff takes care of everything. No need to worry about food or tours and if something would be missing you just have to ask them. Wonderful location for sunset.
Rustic but amazing to deconnect and spend some amazing time on these beautiful islands! But the electric plugs work 24/7.
Ps: foodwise we prefered their fishes. Every day they were different and very copious! It is such a good sunset location that some other guests from other hotels sneak in to come and take their sunset pictures 😅
- Carolina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marco (10/5): Exceptional - dahlandia is eco sustainable village/complex of cabañas owned and run by “el profesor” (a retired university professor/ecologist) and his son Carlos also an ecologist. I spent 3 of my most peaceful days in this enchanting, authentic, unpretentious little piece of paradise in the middle of the Caribbean sea and I truly fell in love with the place, its nature and the local karacol village community..
- Richar (9/5): Superb -
- Eliza (1/5): Bad -
- Charlotte (8/5): Peaceful - Very autentic, peaceful and charming place! The fabulous owner professor Fabio.. It seams he is the only one off the business owner really trying to do something good for the Island community. The hat off to him! The hostel offers great daytours. The general state off the Island in terms the lack off infrastructure leading to garbage everywhere.. Except on the Hostel property. Strange that the bigger hotel resorts bought up the Island peoples land & now the can’t use their own land.
- Eugenia (9/5): Superb -
- Claudio (9/5): Superb - I really loved the place, it was the perfect authentic Caribbean get away, just as I imagined. Isla Múcura is beautiful and has amazing beaches.
Lovely and simple architecture, their private beach is stunning with crystal blue water. They rent kajaks and snorkelling equipment and have a little cocktail bar. Free coffee during the day. The local village is in walking distance (e.g. to buy water), you can go to the public beach once the crowds disappeared in the late afternoon. Food is basic but decent and good value for money at 3 meals a day. don’t expect luxury, facilities are basic but totally sufficient (there was a lack of fresh water, so showers were not always guaranteed)
- Manuel (10/5): magical - the a professor and the staff were exceptional!! great and interesting people on one of the most beautiful places in the world! probably the noise from the neighbors on the celebration of New Year’s Eve… but it was part of the cultural experience
- Felipe (10/5): Exceptional -
- San (9/5): Superb - The view, the sunset in front. The hamacs below the room.
- Andrea (8/5): Very good -
- Kathrin (9/5): Locally run hotel in beautiful surroundings - Karin and el Professor were the most lovely hosts and immediately made me feel at home. The snorkeling and kayaking were fun and the hotel is able to organise all sorts of trips. The food was local and yummy Colombian cuisine. Waking up to the view there was a blessing! It isn't the most social place to meet people so something to keep in mind when you are solo travelling.
- Pascal (7/5): Great stay if you want to feel the real island experience! - + very quiet
+ private, clean beach
+ nature experience
+ very nice, helpful staff
+ fresh, delicious, local meals included - the way to/from the centre (where the restaurants/bars are, 10 minutes by foot) is a hustle: the way is partly under water during high tide.
- there are a LOT of mosquitoes. There is no mosquito net above your bed. Buy repellent in advance. To be fair: other hostals don't have it either. Guess it's part of the experience.
- Noro.sk (7/5): Peaceful place in Caribbean - This place is totally peaceful. Our room door was 10 steps away from the beautiful Caribbean sea. This place is to enjoy sun, beach and relax. The whole island is very small and you can walk around it in 1 hour - if you walk slowly... :) Cold beer and water is another 10 steps from the beach - they will bring the beer to you so no need to make any steps. This place is a paradise especially after madness on the beach in Cartagena where every 15 seconds somebody comes and want to sell you something. This is the best place for relax. Well, luxury is not the word you can say after visiting this place, however our goal was to enjoy local atmosphere, which we were able to achieve.
- Vinas (1/5): Pesima atencion en este lugar. - WARNING: THE UGLY TRUTH ABOUT DAHLANDIA.
First of all, booking a room here is being misrepresented in booking.com since they don’t tell you that the bathrooms are public. You have to literally walk downstairs and/or around the building to find a sink, toilet, or shower. Oh! About the bathrooms, they were filthy and disgusting. Not what you would expect to find in any hotel or…anywhere.
We thought the concept of being rustic was cool until we walked in our room (H5 to be exact). The room was not appealing. Dirt on the floor, a halfway fallen and hanging veil over the bed hosting dust and bugs. I tried to fix it and a cloud of dust fell over the bed.
He then explained the bathroom situation. We told him that that was not what we wanted, and he kept referring to the reservation we had. I asked him to move us to another room and I would pay for the difference in price. He then went back to “the reservation”. Needles to say it was 2 of us in one room and someone else in another room in the whole property.
There surely were other rooms available. He then called someone in Bogota to talk about the situation.
They beach which they call “Private beach” is a strip of maybe 50 to 75 meters. The water was murky, nothing like what you would find in the public beach area of the island. There are no menu options for breakfast or dinner. Basically, you are stuck with whatever comes out of the kitchen, and also, whenever they bring it out. There is no menu and you don’t get to choose when you eat. They subcontract the meals with a local lady. Also, during dinner, be prepared to be joined by several flies ad even cats walking on the table begging/threatening to take your plate. Also there were no napkins in the napkin holders. You only get “one” napkin with your meal and that is all you get. Overall the guy was very rude and unwilling to help. The day we left he didn't even come to check us out. Overall it was a bad experience. .
- Margherita (10/5): Exceptional - This place is a little paradise. Fabio and Karen are two wonderful hosts. Dahlandia is the perfect place for those who want to relax, compared to the other busier accommodations on the island. The food is delicious and the hostel offers extra activities for a fair price.
Highly recommended.
- Anonymous (10/5): very restful stay on the beach - the location on the beach was amazing, it was perfect to get some rest for a few days. very calm and quiet. the activities proposed by the hotel are also very fun (snorkeling, swim with plancton…). the staff was great, especially Karen whose food was delicious the beds are not the most comfortable and you must not be afraid of bugs in general to sleep there. also don’t forget to get a lot of cash as there’s no ATM on those islands and you will end up paying for drinks or activities.
