- Petra (10/5): A magical & quirky escape with unforgettable views—just few small touches needed to make it perfect - The breakfast was slightly pricey for what you get, but absolutely delicious—definitely worth it in the end. The location is perfect, surrounded by beautiful trees with breathtaking sunrise and sunset views. Every corner of Wonderland Cape Town has something quirky and magical to discover, which made our stay feel unique and memorable. Next time, I would choose a room without guests above us, as the noise from footsteps on the wooden deck made it difficult to sleep. The Zen room could also use a bit of maintenance—the shower was blocked, the TV and ceiling lights weren’t working, and there was no hairdryer as advertised (so I had to rely on the wind!). These are all minor, fixable issues though, and didn’t take away from the overall experience.
- Andrei (10/5): - One of the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at, the house feels like a oasis inside the jungle, a work of art where the building combines in harmony with nature. We particularly liked all the facilities at the location, many seating areas, pool, jacuzzis, gym, sauna view aquarium views, fireplace, cozy living and working area.

- steven (5/5): Prijs kwaliteit te duur - De locatie / natuur is geweldig Hygiene laat ten wensen over
Verouderde infrastructuur - dringend aan renovatie
Personeel / management niet on point
> Hier is dringend vernieuwing nodig

Truly magical place. There was nothing that could have been done better. All was exquisite.

- Sabrina (9/5): A great stay at Wonderland - We had a wonderful stay at Wonderland! The welcome was incredibly warm, and we felt at home right away. The property and especially the garden are absolutely beautiful, with so many lovely and unique details. It was a truly great experience – we would definitely recommend it.
- Corrinne (8/5): - The quirkiness and very peaceful Nothing
- Rubina (4/5): - Das Preisleistungsverhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht

- Vivian (2/5): Very bad experience - We had a very bad experience and would not recommend this place to anyone.
On the day we checked in, there was a huge influencer event taking place with large crowds. We were not informed about this in advance - something that would have been fair and transparent before booking - and as a result we felt very unwelcome, as if we were interrupting someone else’s private party. On top of that, all facilities were overcrowded, even though we paid a significant amount of money specifically for a relaxing stay with spa and pool access.
Our room had a private balcony and jacuzzi, yet people completely ignored this and repeatedly walked across our balcony and past our room, even after being told it was private. Very rude. The swimming pool was dirty, with cloudy, green water, and the jacuzzis were also unhygienic (our private one was cleaned by two very nice guys - that was kind)
Being a guesthouse rather than a hotel is not a valid excuse for these issues. At this price point, a much higher standard of privacy, hygiene, and communication should be expected.
Overall, this was a huge disappointment and a waste of our time, experience, and the hundreds of euros we spent.
PS: We raised these concerns with the staff, but no solution was offered.
- Julia (8/5): - It’s the most unique and wonderful place we’ve stayed at by far. The whole property is stunning and rooms are beautifully designed with so much detail. The staff was lovely and breakfast was great. The room (we stayed in the Smaragd suite) was gorgeous. Unfortunately the shower was broken and didn’t get fixed while we were there even though I sent them another message on WhatsApp about it. The sauna & gym are quite run down and dirty so it wasn’t really pleasant to use. The jacuzzis were so dirty we couldn’t use them either. We were really hoping to enjoy a nice spa but unfortunately that wasn’t possible because of all these issues. For that it felt a bit over priced however overall we still had a magical experience and would come again but the place definitely needs some TLC.
- Michael (6/5): Nice house and relaxing night away for parents - Pool, jacuzzis, mountain views, lounge areas. Room was very noisy. Could hear other guests arrive back and walking around at night.
- Michael (8/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Fun, unique place for a relaxing stay. - Unique property ideal for relaxing on first few days of honeymoon. Breakfast offering was quite basic for the standard of property.
- Werner (9/5): -
- Ellen (9/5): Absolute incredible getaway tucked in the mountains, yet a few minutes drive from the city! The staff were amazing! - Magical setting and beautiful interior design! Unfortunately the geyser broke in our room but we were moved to another room, with a terrace so that was lovely!
- Bruton (10/5): -
- Alice (8/5): - It’s a unique location and very beautiful. I like the 24 hour access to facilities and very spacious room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It would be great if the served more meals at the venue. During our stay there was only breakfast served but lots of restaurants close by.
- Daisy (4/5): Uncomfortable and overpriced - Unique architecture/design as shown in the photos, good location and beautiful views of mountain scenery. Easy access to local sights and amenities by car. If you are looking for a hostel/group party sort of venue this would probably be fine. If you are looking for a luxury hotel experience (as we were, based on the price) you will not find it here.
The vibe is more of a hostel/ house share among guests. We had some issues checking in as we were shown to the wrong room and then our correct room was hastily and poorly cleaned which we complained about and it had to be cleaned again. Mistakes happen but this was not handled very well by management.
Breakfasts were chaotic with coffee and other facilities not being readily available and an ad hoc approach to service and taking orders for hot food. There was not even a fridge in the room. Our room contained a large thick rug which felt perpetually unclean.
The room had a lovely wrap around balcony and rooftop hot tub however these facilities had no privacy and people having breakfast could easily see you coming out onto the balcony (for example in the morning) to enjoy the view. The room in general completely lacked privacy (having a full wall of windows) which is unromantic; even the bathroom was overlooked having unfrosted windows from the shower area looking directly into another room. We found this incredibly strange and uncomfortable.
There was no gate/barrier to separate the balcony off and people walked across it randomly. This was a disappointing and overpriced stay for us; definitely the worst accommodation we have visited in South Africa as in our experience the standard is generally high especially at this price point staying in a premium room.
- Van Der Fort (1/5): -
- Tommy (4/5): Good idea but disappointing on the cleanliness - It’s such a feat of architecture and so unique. It had so many amazing things in it, all in 1 family home that was built in the early 2000s. The Koi pond all around the foundations, the huge living area with a gorgeous fireplace was so romantic, the clamshell sinks in the eternal suite and the view were stunning! The dogs were sooo sweet and lovely. The gym was fab! I wasn’t going to leave a review tbh however i believe unless people say something, the owners may not truly realise and won’t be able to make it better for future guests.
It is a nice place, it’s just everything has a “BUT”
In theory the pool is cool, a zip line, diving board and slides BUT The pool area was tired, there wasn’t many pool lounge pillows, the water was discoloured and not at all clean, there was dog and bird poo in the pool and around the decking. The decking was the same old wood from being first built which explained the splinters we got. The zip line and everything seems like a good idea until you realise it’s in the same wood from 20 years ago and isn’t really stable, also landing in the dirty pool wouldn’t have been fun.
We booked the eternal suite for one of the nights because it had a private hot tub but when we got there it was really quite disgusting, the water was murky, the tiles were broken and heavily discoloured and the staff explained it would just be “easier” to use the shared hot tub instead, despite that being the reason we booked that room. It was quite disheartening because we felt we spent a lot of money on that and was disappointed but we tried to not let it affect our stay.
We then thought ok let’s use the shared hot tub BUT we took the cover off and the water absolutely stank of hot faeces and there was a film of oil over the water, obviously the water was not maintained with proper chemicals.
The eternal suite did have a very strong “sweet” smell that was quite off putting, not sure that could be helped though.
We went to go make a coffee in the kitchen and there water full of algae in the water tank… i tried to clean it but couldn’t without sufficient products, then went to put the water tank in the dishwasher to use at a later time and there was plates left in the dishwasher that must have been there a long time…. there was fluffy grey mold growing on the food/sauce that hadn’t been rinsed off the plate.
- Toby (8/5): Fascinating place, a really unique and special experience. - Incredibile property - it really personifies its name “Wonderland”. There is so much to explore and discover with lots of space to relax and feel at home too. Finding out it was built as someone’s home was fascinating, and it’s quite unique in the fact that it still feels and is being operated like a guesthouse, with shared kitchen, lounge and communal areas. I could have spent longer here. The main girl on reception (who is also one of the spa therapists) was lovely, made us welcome and clearly cared about the property and our whole experience. It seems like a mammoth task to maintain this property as it’s so vast and unique, so I forgive some of its shortcomings in its first year of operations - there are worn out areas around the property, some oddly placed hot tubs (that may need more regular cleaning), and breakfast could have been more exciting. Non of which would put us off returning though - we loved every moment in that house!

- Neo (10/5): -
- Jimmy (10/5): Wil stay there over and over again - thank you to Elle and team for excellent customer service - It’s all in the name - a Wonderland The interior, the views, the rooms, it is exceptional
- Kelly (8/5): -
- Liezel (10/5): - Most magical place, something interesting everywhere you turn, loved every minute, will be back for sure!
- Alan (10/5): -
- Sebastian (10/5): A fairy-tale escape where design, nature and warmth come together beautifully - This guesthouse is truly something else, like stepping straight into a fairy tale! It is even more beautiful and enchanting then on the pictures and on Instagram. You could spend days just exploring the house, its beautifully decorated common areas, the lush garden, and the pool area. There’s something new and charming to discover around every corner. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and genuinely made us feel at home. The resident dogs are so lovely you’ll actually miss them after you leave. The spa treatments were exceptional, and if you get the chance, book the Vespa tour with Sven. It’s an unforgettable experience! We’re already looking forward to visiting again. Honestly, the only thing we didn’t like was that our time there had to end.
- Deidrè (10/5): - Place is stunning Must serve a dinner
- Chantel (9/5): - Beautiful garden with relaxing areas to find quiet spots and spa with sauna on the premises. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Interesting decor and cozy feel to the stay. The R500 cleaning fee that was added. Creaking wooden floors can be disturbing if you are a light sleeper.
- Debra (8/5): Just my opinion. Bath 0/10. Bathing is my best but didn't even bother. - The spa was amazing.
Bed - sleep quality amazing
Staff, again amazing
Loved the live in dogs. They gave me comfort from being away from my dogs
Massage. Did couples massage, was 100 % the best. The koi fish ponds on the either side. Feeling like a dungeon/ seller was the best.
The green bathroom was amazing. You could look for a long time, and still find something interesting to see. No fridge and kettle /coffee station in the room.
In the room we stayed, tub not conducive to a relaxing bath. No head space. No place to sit before you get in.
- Shamma (10/5): I recommend couples to stay at this place, it’s quite, calming , enjoyable and amazing - The place is incredibly amazing , the vibe, the rooms, THEIR BREAKFAST IS DELICIOUS, the staff are so friendly and welcoming and always asking us in the morning how was our sleep. The place is safe too and you feel like you’re at your home🥹💗 definitely will come back again
- Karin Isebel (7/5): - Unique and beautiful property! Our room was spacious and wonderful, amazing bath and bonus outdoor shower. The sauna with fish tank was a huge treat. Large, unique pool. Beauty and surprises around every corner of the property! Unfortunately our jacuzzi never heated up which was a huge disappointment for us. Our room had a mold smell, this might have been due to us visiting in winter. Breakfast was odd. We found milk in the fridge to make ourselves coffee. There was some muesli, jogurt and fruit. When we asked how breakfast works we were told it is continental but we can also ask for bacon and eggs. When we asked for bacon and eggs the request was not taken to well. After eating the bacon and eggs there was croissants and fresh bread (with no butter). This was close to 10am and we were already on our way. No one greeted us when we left and no one offered to assist with our luggage. Maybe we were just unlucky but I expected a bit more for the price we paid. The establishment did note my concerns, they said they will investigate to better future guest's stay. So hopefully they do :)

- Stefania (10/5): - The guesthouse is magical, every nook and cranny is thought out to fit perfectly together. The staff is wonderful and friendly, the facilities are great, and it feels like you're escaping the real world!
- Pamela (10/5): Luxury and relaxation redefined! - The space is aesthetically pleasing with so much character . Epitome of Luxury and very well appointed! No Restuarant !

- Clinton (10/5): Beyond any expectations, best staff I have ever, anywhere. - Fantastic Nothing
- Hussain (10/5): A stolen part from Paradise ❤️ - From the moment I stepped into Wonderland Boutique Guesthouse & Spa, I knew I had found something extraordinary. This is not just a hotel — it’s the result of 25 years of dedication, vision, and love, a masterpiece crafted with patience and passion. Every corner tells a story, and every detail reflects the heart of its creators.
The place is cozy and intimate, with a warm charm that instantly makes you feel at home. Surrounded by lush greenery in every direction, it feels like nature is embracing you. The bar is a perfect spot to unwind, with a relaxed atmosphere that invites great conversations. And of course, the two lovely dogs are always there to greet you with pure joy — adding a unique, homely touch you won’t find elsewhere.
Meeting the owner, Safiyah, was one of the highlights of my stay. Her mindset toward constantly upgrading the place, her eye for detail, and her love of music are truly inspiring. She sees her guesthouse as a living, evolving work of art — and you can feel that energy in every space.
For me, Wonderland is not just accommodation; it’s an experience, a feeling, and, as I told Safiyah, “a stolen part from paradise.” How dare you, Booking.com, even ask me this question?! 🤨
It’s like asking “What don’t you like about heaven?”
there is no answer!
Every moment at Wonderland was pure joy, and if I had to complain about anything… it would be that I eventually had to leave!

- Taylor (10/5): We wish we could stay longer!!! Definitely encourage a weekend long stay at minimum. - The privacy is wonderful. Although facilities are shared, the energy around the place is so relaxed, everything is so well kept. We were welcomed so warmly and the breakfast and view was lovely.
- Nesan (10/5): Exceptional - The calming tranquility of the venue
- Montanari (10/5): Gem in Hout Bay. Get lost and enjoy! - Everything was a discovery; every ambiance would lead you to something unreal, magical. Words really cannot describe the beauty of this gem.
It’s really a different concept from common hotels and an experience that it’s worth the try. Also the staff is amazing. Liked pretty much everything.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - A Magical Escape at Wonderland
Staying at Wonderland was an experience we won’t soon forget. The moment we arrived, we were struck by the incredible energy of the space—warm, welcoming, and full of life. There’s a kind of magic in the air that makes you instantly feel at home.
The decor is nothing short of enchanting—every corner is thoughtfully designed with quirky, creative touches that make the space feel both cozy and inspiring. You can tell a lot of love and intention went into crafting this environment.
One of the highlights was the amazing community. It’s a perfect place to connect with like-minded souls—whether you’re traveling solo or with friends. There was a movie night on Sunday that brought everyone together in the best way.
At the same time, Wonderland offers plenty of peaceful spots for relaxation. Whether you’re curling up with a book, meditating in a quiet corner, or just soaking in the vibe, it’s a great place to recharge.
Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. Just a short trip from the city center, it’s easy to explore the beach or dive into local activities. You get the best of both worlds—tranquility and convenience.
We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning our return. Wonderland truly lives up to its name.

- Waite (10/5): Amazing spot feels like a secret grotto - Amazing spot full of charm
- Ula (6/5): Aesthetically pleasing space with nice amenities in an inconvenient location, and seriously lacks hospitality. - The view was great and it was a beautiful space (great architecture and decor). Lack of hospitality and poor communication: the manager gave us a short tour at the beginning but left out tons of info that could’ve been really useful. For instance, how to enter/exit the building. On three separate occasions, we tried to enter by calling the security numerous times (only way to get in) and waited 10-15 mins. Tried calling the manager several times but they’re only available between 8-5 and no one answered or followed up next day. They were nice enough to allow our driver to drop off some luggage before our check in however when he showed up, no one had been informed. I pre booked a couples massage which was supposed to be a surprise. They told my partner about it and then on the day of, they had forgotten it was a couples massage and only had one masseuse. I don’t know where they ended up getting a second masseuse from eventually but it was definitely not planned and no apologies or remedies were even offered. In fact, originally she had said she would just do one of us at a time which defeats the purpose of a couples massage obviously. It was also odd because it was in the wine cellar with security cameras that I did not notice until after I had undressed. Aside from the ladies who made our breakfast (which was great and they were fantastic), no one else ever acknowledged us (including the people who I’m sure own the place). The security even argued with us about how long we said we had been waiting outside when he finally unlocked it; instead of apologizing for making us wait. We had no idea about housekeeping and how that worked if we needed fresh towels, etc. Also, where it’s located is very inconvenient to catch an uber or walk. If you’re not driving yourselves, you will find it difficult to get anywhere. Apparently locals all know that Hout Bay is notorious for flaky Ubers. We waited over an hour for one and finally cancelled it. This info would’ve also been really helpful when booking so we could’ve pre-arranged some rides.

- Charlotte (10/5): One of a kind experience - This hotel is really an experience, would really recommend to take your time and spend your afternoon up until morning at this place to soak it all in. A one of a kind gem tucked away in the beautiful forestry area between hout bay and Constantia. Truly recommend to stay here and enjoy both the indoor and outdoor areas. Nothing

- Kim (8/5): Very good - Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Not luxury as expected: No pool service. No service after 5pm. Arrival into garage that is used as a store is very cluttered and not neat - did not give a good sense of arrival. Staff wearing old faded t shirts. Felt like we were staying in someone’s house rather than a professional accommodation. So unfortunately not worth the price.
