Guest Reviews
- Ruth (9/5): - Traditional old house with modern comfort
- Stacey (10/5): Perfect, quirky and very entertaining spot to just chill and relax by the restaurant. - It's a rustic accommodation but perfect for us as a couple. We had everything we needed to cook and the bar at the restaurant is incredible. Lots to see at this place. Host was very friendly and accommodating. Place was clean and everything was there that we needed.
- Gavin Chile (8/5): Imaginative and interesting decor - Although closed, the owner kindly allowed me free reign to wander about the extraordinary property. Old cars, farm implements even cash registers, some built in to the walls abound. Phenomenal use of old rusted out bits of 'trash'. The accommodation wasn't the best, or cleanest. However, at the price point, it was fine.
- David (10/5): -
- Jean (1/5): Groce & creepy and plain dirty - Nothing Lack of maintenance and housekeeping!
- Lelani (10/5): - Everyone is friendly and it is very quiet.
- Carol (2/5): - The toilet did not flush and the water leaked out of the bath. Unacceptable level of hospitality.
- Pieterse (3/5): - Nothing either than the situation Very dirty shower, full of mildew.
The establishment looks nothing like the photos - very run down and tired looking.
The bedroom was acceptable and clean but very basic.
It's definitely not worth the tariff charged.
- Ruth (9/5): Was great :-) - LEFT BEFORE BREAKFAST
- lutendo mundalamo (8/5): -
- Guest (5/5): The collection of farm equipment and vehicles was superior to any local museum...... - The facility was acceptable under the circumstances. The food was under standard.
- Cas (1/5): Not for stay - The entertainment area is very beutiful. The room was dirty with a sewerage smell in the bathroom.
- Dirk (6/5): Overnight experience at Boorgat - Most facilities was good, just that the carpets were found very dusty, spider webs in corners, no tv. Heater old and one of 2 switches broken. There is a cole/ wood fire place but no wood or cole?? We were twice harashed the evening by a young coloured boy asking for food or money. Second time at about 20H00 for food for his little brother that must take medication. Phoned police, no answer, w app manager or owner, no responce. Sat awake till 3 am guarding my bakkie in the street against criminals. Curtains facing the street could not close properly, we did not feel safe at all. Old wooden door with large window, facing 2 m from the street. No burglar proofing or security gate. Will not stay there again.
- Nazeem (2/5): Very disappointed our accommodation. Do not know the condition of the other accommodation at boorgat - No breakfast included Place dusty, bathroom and outside lights out of order, old broken furniture, not enough cutlery, bath damaged no shower.
- Alida (10/5): - Walking distance from everything.. restaurant next door. Braai area but No braai grit and need to buy own wood for the fireplace inside.
- Keith (8/5): Great staff and very central. - Great conversation and extremely informative with Annie. I will highly recommend.
- Nadia (7/5): Quirky stay - with electric blankets - Quirky environment, electric blankets on beds Lose taps in bathroom, blankets were not washed
- Nicolette (5/5): -
- Ec (5/5): Fine for an overnight stay but probably won't go back. Bed was comfortable though so a plus - No breakfast option available The room was very basic but I think the shower was a definite let down - didn't use the shower at all as it didnt look clean or hygienic. Bathroom door didn't close so lack of privacy.
- Ashleigh (8/5): Comfortable - Comfortable and Warm, with all the necessary facilities for a very cold trip to Sutherland! Quite rustic or old school, it might not suit everyone.

- Gian (10/5): An amazing experience - Location was superb. Loved the quirkiness of both the restaurant and accommodation.
- Frans (8/5): Very good - The friendly staff and the food at the restaurant Nothing to dislike
- Peter (1/5): AVOID AT ALL COSTS. - Nothing Booked months and months ago. Two days prior to check in, we were informed to call a number for us to be checked in. Called multiple times two days before to confirm why we needed to call a number and left messages. We also contacted them via booking.com platform. Unfortunately nobody answered the phone nor the messages. We arrived on the day of check in to be confronted with the place all boarded up. We again called the number, but no-one picked up. We couldn't check in as no-one was there. So we had to find alternative accommodation. Tried afterwards to get a refund but to no avail. They take your money but do not honour bookings. Should have read other reviews, as this is not the first time it has happened.
- Jakkallas (9/5): Superb -
- Antoinette (7/5): Quirky old fashioned interesting house with loads of space - Quirky, interesting, ample space, well located & comfortable. A nostalgic jog into the past, feels like grandmas home. Rubbish bins were dirty, extremely dusty, despite advertising that property provided coffee etc, only a coffee enough for 1 cup was left in a bottle with no milk etc.
- Morné (5/5): Stated self catering but no utencils. - Situation Being locked out, not getting hold of the owner and having winters bedding during a 38 degrees day and no aircon.
- Sonja (10/5): One of our favourite places to stay in SA - Absolutely loved the attention to detail in the decor
- Modipa (1/5): Bad - Was a old place
- Holder (3/5): Poor - central to the town Cups were not clean and curtain allowed light in from the street
- Elize (7/5): Good -
- Peter (3/5): Disappointing stay - Bed was comfotable Boorgat has a good reputation as a great restaurant and bar but v disappointed in the accommodation. Bathroom required some serious maintenance, loose taps shower head that barely sprayed. Glass panel on the front door held in with some big nails which indicated there may have been a break in recently. Poor quality instant coffee and some sugar, no tea or milk or bottled water. I expected a fridge but guess I didn't book the correct room. Expensive for what was offered
- Gustav (3/5): A Shack of a place to stay in. - The bed was comfortable Most of the apartment was dirty
Curtains, walls, loose carpets.
Construction dust is still on the walls.
Dust was on the bedframe, everything smelled of the dust.
The exterior door leading to the backyard does not have a lock nor a doorknob.
Security is a concern, as we had beggars that bothered us.
It is NOT the money worth to stay.
The bath had no enamel
There was spider webs in the toilet.
- Alphonso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shelagh (8/5): Very good -
- Mike (3/5): Poor - Clean Terrible shower, no firewood provided and too much scrap metal. No proper reception
- Louis (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Gerrad (1/5): Terrible and will not book or recommend them to anyone - Owner was a no show on arrival and had to get alternative accommodation. Tried to contact the owner for my refund but they do not respond at all through bookings.com or whatsapp.
- Karin (5/5): Passable -
- Koen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johan (7/5): Good -
- Dhruv (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ma (8/5): Awesome Boorgat Stay - We loved it
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Danielle (9/5): Superb -
- Pam (3/5): So much potential - Room was freezing. Heater did not work. Replaced with an inadequate heater. No hand rails in bathroom at all. My mum is 87 and could not shower as no antislip mats. Both handrails and mats should be available. Manager was miserable. Staff completely overrun and under resourced. We had to leave without dinner on our 1st night... as we acted over an hour for our food and we were going to miss the star gazing which is what we went for. We had also booked a table on the understanding there was sufficient time.
- Anika (7/5): it was good - food was good . wholesome experience kettle didnt work. everything was full of dust.
- Rodney (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very nice for anyone who wants to escape from busy lifestyle - Fireplace and the restuarant No wifi
