Guest Reviews
- Henk Wagensveld (4/5): -
- Nitzan (8/5): - nice fruit market nearby to expensive, nice fruit market nearby
when electriciy was off in the island they turned on the generator for only an hour.
Ganska unken lukt i ena rummet.
- Ivey (6/5): Accommodation not we had anticipated but restaurant good and location close to Jozani forest was great - The location right next Jozani National Park was amazing but the staff did not make enough of this location
The restaurant had great Swahili menus We booked accommodation in three tents only to find that the whole place had just a single tent
We ended up paying extra to be in three rooms, not what we had anticipated or booked
A first world problem but litter around the cottages could be cleared up and evidence of vegetable production would be good
- Unruh (7/5): - Die unmittelbare Lage direkt am Jozani Wald. Das Essen war sehr gut. Die Unterkunft war schon sehr einfach. FĂŒr eine Nacht ok.
- MARK (8/5): Great place to stay for easy access to Jozani forest. - Very close proximity to the forest entrance.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice , big room and peaceful surroundings. Nothing
- CHRISTIAN (7/5): -
- ĐаŃĐžĐœĐ° (10/5): - Incredible place, here is living blue monkeys and red colobuses, and I found a big lizard. Accomodation is good, I recommend for lovers wild nature Won't work hot water
- YURS (5/5): Andere ervaring dan meeste reviews. - Leuk om apen van dichtbij te zien. Eten was goed. Geen fijn restaurant, kil en niet sfeervol.
Locatie viel tegen.
Koud water.
Personeel niet vriendelijk, afstandelijk. Eigenaar uitgezonderd.
- Marta (9/5): - We saw monkeys and elephant-shrews in the garden - fantastic experience!
Nice location close to the national park but also to the main road, making it easily accessible. Breakfast and dinner can be purchased there. We asked for vegetarian meals and they were very good. They can organise guided trips and activities in the area. They only hosts a few guests at a time in a tent structure and two bungalows, making the stay pleasantly quiet and welcoming. There aren't many other food places in the area, but the restaurant at the Jozani Biosphere Village is very good so it wasn't a problem.
We stayed in the tent structure and the bathroom is external, it's not ensuite (this wasn't clear to us from the reservation).
- Karine (7/5): - La nourriture LâamĂ©nagement extĂ©rieur dĂ©cevant.
- Joel (8/5): Basic jungle accommodation. - Staff were friendly. The best vegetarian food we had throughout Africa. Location was perfect for exploring the Jozani forest (2 minute walk to the gate). Bed was uncomfortable and door was hard to open/close. Rooms could use an upgrade but apart from that it was good for a night and you get what you pay for I guess.
- Mrs. Susan (10/5): Lovely stay in Jozani nature reserve - This is a family run business. Everybody speaks English very well. Located in a beautifull garden. Suroundings are magnificent. Group of monkeys pass by in the trees. Better than the excursion. You can do here all kinds of excursions. I went in a wooden canu through the mangrove forrest and saw the sunset gow down. This is the real Africa experience. Great breakfast, it is the best in Zanzibar! Take a airconditioned taxi from airport 50 minutes.
- Mollie (10/5): Brilliant value for money for nature lovers - Fantastic accommodation for people looking to explore Jozani forest on a budget. The tent is very spacious and clean, and surrounded by wildlife. The shower area was very clean and hot water is available, plus basic toiletries. If you are used to camping it is a brilliant stay. Maryam and the hosts were incredibly helpful, with taxis, hot water for tea, extra towels etc. All the food was very tasty If you are staying in the tent be sure to bring jumpers to stay warm :)
- D M (9/5): - Midden in het natuur, zeer vriendelijk personeel, goede maaltijden.
- Julien (7/5): Bel accueil !
- Scoopers103 (9/5): - Nice staff, good food, budget option, lots of space, fans, right in the forest for good wildlife sightings. The staff heats up water for the shower and its amazing đ. Beds are a little hard.
- Daniele (5/5): - Posizione e giardino esterno Pulizia assolutamente da rivedere
- Erik (10/5): Excellent stay at a locally owned business. - Nice and clean accomodation. Camp fire at night. Locally owned business. Many monkeys. The tours were very well organized, more authentic than what you can find in stone town. The food is amazing! Nothing comes to mind.
- Barbara (5/5): Disappointing experience, worth it if you are flexible and want to save money, many fun activities nearby - This place is 200mt from the entrance of Jozani reserve, so if you want to spend some time around the forest and enjoy more than a quick tour, itâs worth spending a night. Pete village which is nearby has a lot to offer, its a good starting point for butterfly center, mangrove kayaking and village tours organized by locals. As mentioned on other reviews, monkeys (mostly blue monkey) do come down in the property in the afternoon. The staff in the kitchen and serving at the table are very kind, food is traditional and good. When we arrived we were informed by the owner that breakfast would be 10usd per person per day, meaning that breakfast would cost us much more than what we paid for the room. When we expressed our surprise for this the owner dismissed us rudely saying we could choose not to eat there - of course there was absolutely nothing else within walking distance. The property itself is not well kept, the garden is full of litter and junk, the one hammock has definitely seen better days and there is a lack of comfortable seating to enjoy outdoors. We stayed in the tent and there was no cleaning or making the beds for the first two nights. At night we heard the occasional monkey, however we could also very clearly hear traffic from the dala dala and cars going by as there is a main road 100mt away. Less than ideal if you are choosing this place after reading the many reviews that describe it as being in the middle of the forest⊠When we arrived the two single beds did not have mosquito nets, but they were provided upon request. The double bed had a small mosquito net making it really uncomfortable at night, we asked for an appropriately sized one and were told âtomorrowâ but never got one. The outdoor bathroom had light bulbs missing, doors that didnât properly close, very rustic experience but all in all it was clean. In sum if you are looking to save some money and are flexible I recommend staying one night. It is such a shame really because with very little effort this place could be so much more enjoyable.
- merheb (10/5): -
- sebastien (8/5): Great if you want to visit Jozani forest - Great location, monkey playground in the nearby trees! Very good food, friendly staff and great owner. uncomfortable mattress
No warm water that day
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (10/5): A wonderful and magical place to stay with the best staff - The property is set on the perimeter of the Jozani Forest. You can listen to bush babies at night and see the monkeys during the day. The staff were absolutely wonderful and the chef cooked the best curry Iâve had in a very long while. She even packed us a breakfast as we had to leave early for our flight I found the bed a little hard for my taste and the shower was cold
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Wojciech (5/5): Passable - There's nowhere to sit and enjoy surrounding nature. After the rain the place becomes a bit muddy. Saw some black parasites in the dining place.
- Szabolcs (10/5): Exceptional - For us nature-lovers, this was a dream accomodation, surrounded by nice forest with lots of birds, monkeys, bushbabies etc. The entrance of the national park is only 200 m away. The room was prepared very nicely with flowers on the bed etc. Hotel staff were extremely nice, calm and very helpful. We tried several local items on the menu in the restaurant, and we simply LOVED the food, which was excellent and reasonably priced. If you dine there, you must try the swahili selection! There is a line of small fruit stalls at the main road - if you buy something there, please hide it in a bag or backpack so that the monkeys do not see it. We carried in a few batches of lychee in our hands and monkeys tried to steal them from us, we almost had to fight them for out fruit :)
- Kendra (8/5): Cheap and cheerful accommodation right outside Jozani forest. - Perfectly located for visiting Jozani forest and onward travel to Zanzibar airport. The staff were great and very accommodating. Clean and tidy room and the best WiFi I had on my Zanzibar trip! No aircon so quite hot at night with just fans. Mosquito nets didnât full close.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Staff and food, especially the dinner set up and service, were a delight.
- Dhruti (9/5): Chilling in nature - The property is very rustic which gives you a feeling of being close to nature. The bed was very comfortable. The fan was working nicely.
The restaurant is amazing and the food is absolutely delicious. The serve soft drinks and beers throughout the day.
There are plenty of recliners and seats in the beautiful hotel grounds and monkeys will come and eat on the trees above you, which is an incredible experience.
The location is right next to the protected reserve where one can visit the endangered red colobus monkeys, and mangrove forests, which is certainly not to me missed. The shower wasnât very pressured, but it was adequate
- James (9/5): Perfect place to stay in the forest. - Great place in the forest and a 2 min walk from the park. Simple accommodation but all you need and Polina cooks some of the best food Iâve had in Tanzania! The red snapper was beautifully presented. I wished the fan was more powerful at night.
- Charles (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing, food very tasty. - In the middle of a lush green forest, scenery superb and daily visits from very mischievous monkeys. Breakfast was good, fresh squeezed tropical juice of the day, fresh fruit, sausage and eggs vary day to day and coffee or tea. Though not on the menu, beer can be ordered. All staff polite, helpful and very friendly. No mosquitos when we were there.
- Alex (10/5): Rustic and delicious - Come for immediate access to the Jozani nature reserve, stay for the amazing local cuisine! Biosphere is the perfect name, as we enjoyed the neat lizards, the monkeys playing in the courtyard, and birds visiting. We loved the breakfast and asked for a new local dish each night - the best was the âSwahili cornerâ for 2.
The theme to this place was âpole poleâ or âgentle/careful/slowâ. We learned to plan around things taking a little time, which is great - we are on vacation. It is simple and staff are friendly, with a low price to match the rural setting ;)
Be aware: The hotel is adjacent to the national park but does not include the entry ticket. You must go to the park reception and get an entry ticket/trail guide. The trails are incredibly confusing so this is a good rule! I love rustic, authentic places like this - I donât care about low water pressure. They are doing the best they can :)
- Helene (7/5): Good - The only accomodation located around Jozani forest, basic rooms for a modest price. Good restaurant with tasty food. Fan in the room, bed was comfortable and had mosquito net. Breakfast was good (although pricey as it was not included in the room price) Bathroom was basic and substandard, no protection against bugs/mosquitos flying in. No soap provided. The lock/key for my room did not work properly and people from the village pass all the time. Although nothing happened I did not always have a safe feeling. No housekeeping during your stay.
- Leigh (10/5): Loved it! - My family loved staying here. It is bio-friendly and a great way to experience the forest. The official park is a few meters away, so that you can see most of the park around the hotel. Walking around the property at night and hanging out during the day, you'll see incredible wildlife and fauna. We saw bush babies a few meters from our room. The monkeys tend to come in the afternoon. It is an eco-lodge, like staying at a campsite with amenities and clean cabins. If you are looking for a complete nature experience, this is perfect for you--if you need to be pampered, it's not the place for you. The restaurant is excellent. Anyone visiting the park should ask their driver or tour company to include lunch there. They have a lovely porch where you can hang out or have meals. If you have a late lunch, you'll probably see the monkeys.
- Emily (9/5): Unique stay next to the national park, surrounded by wildlife, incredible people, access to fantastic tours - a truly au - This is a unique, authentic Zanzibar experience on the edge of the national park. Monkeys and wildlife are all around and there are a number of tours you can do including forest walk with a botanist guide, mangrove exploring, reptile park, butterfly park, spice farms, cooking classes, community tours to understand the traditional ways of life for people in Zanzibar. Rashid and Hassan can organise the tours, and by participating in them you are supporting the local communities to protect the land and wildlife.
The staff are fantastic, they go the extra mile to make it a special and unique stay - from pointing out wildlife, to lighting a fire and lanterns at night, beautifully decorating the table for breakfast and dinner, teaching us Swahili etc. Particular shout outs to Mwanjia and Teacher whose efforts made the experience so much more special. It was really great spending time with the owners Rashid and Hassan, understanding more about the culture, politics and opportunities in Zanzibar - this really enhanced our experience of visiting this beautiful country - Thank you. The food was fantastic, with a good selection of choice.
This place is rustic and basic, it is not luxury accommodation, but it is a very unique place and special experience. A little more attention to cleanliness and keeping some of the basics slightly better quality: sheets, towels etc. The water in our bungalow occasionally wasnât working due to someone else using water elsewhere in the property - this wasnât a big issue, but it would have been helpful to have been made aware of this at the start of the stay.
There was some confusion about the room booked - we thought weâd booked a deluxe double room with 2 double beds, but it turned out that the room with 2 beds was 2 single beds, initially we were shown to a lovely room with 1 huge double bed but they were really adaptable and let us use the room with the 2 singles - maybe just worth messaging them prior to staying if unsure or if needing something particular.
- Kathrin (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to explore the parc. 200m away.
Very reaxing place. Friendly helpful staff. Very good food. Good variation freshly prepared. You can sit outside and watch monkeys coming by.
Got even an open fire for enjoying the evening outside.
Simple rooms but all there.
Tour was organised for me with a knowledgable guide. I would like to mention that there is a weavery close by with old manual machines. Very good pricing for the handmade coton items. That was for me the Souvenir to take away. Will always remember the monkeys around the open house. All good. However when they are leaving they seem to switch off the wifi. But I think that you can agree about it.
