Guest Reviews

- Akinamat (10/5): Loveliest stay I could not ask a better stay. - I had a fantastic stay at this hotel and couldn’t recommend it more highly. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, making me feel comfortable straight away.
The room was spotless, spacious, and very well equipped, with a comfortable bed and thoughtful details that made the stay even more enjoyable. Everything was quiet and relaxing, perfect for a great night’s sleep.
The highlight was definitely the breakfast – absolutely amazing. There was a wide variety of fresh, high-quality food produce, catering to all tastes. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious, easily one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had.
The hotel itself is well located and well maintained, with a calm and pleasant atmosphere throughout. Service was consistently excellent, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
I would happily stay here again and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, quality, and an exceptional breakfast experience.

- Hannah (6/5): Lovely location but could be more personal and better value - Lovely location in Kabira Bay and great breakfast Poor value compared to the rest of our trip and much less personal. Lots of strict rules and not much flexibility or kindness in approach.

- Donald (9/5): - Perfectly situated between beaches, nature and with more than enough restaurants in the vicinity we thought this was the perfect place for our stay at Ishigaki.
- marcella (9/5): -

- Arda (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandra (10/5): perfect to stay - Everything was clean and perfect for relax. It is a traditional Japanese house, so we really enjoyed the experience. Nothing
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - staff is wonderful, the best spot to stay. there is also a very good restaurant inside!
- Fiona (10/5): Wonderful time at Joya - We loved staying here as the atmosphere is very relaxing, cozy and chilled, it is just few minutes walk to Kabira bay and aprox 10min cycling to the big beach of Sukuji, roads are very quiet and surrounded by nature. Many different restaurants less than 5 min walk, even though Joyas restaurant is one of the best with lovely traditional tables and music. The Japanese futon beds were also very comfortable and they actually got rid of our back aches! but the best of our stay were the people, they made us feel at home. We got some rainy days and it didn't bother us as we were so comfortable. Leaving, it was hard to say goodbye
- Hafiz (10/5): Wonderful place to stay at Kabira. Walking distance to the beach and dive shops. - Nice and cosy place to stay at Kabira. Room was super clean. Host was very kind to offer me 2 onigiris on my first night there as i woke up late into the night and most of the restaurants around are already closed. Nil
- Paul (5/5): Passable - The location was nice in a part of the island that is very beautiful Place was very average in overall comfort and rather austere but clean. The hosts were not very accommodating and did not seem interested in making any effort in making us feel welcome so not a place to stay if you enjoy interacting with the locals. Also rather pricy for the average quality.
- Petra (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are beyond kindness. They welcomed us and we felt instantly at home. We stayed in the tatami room and it was very comfortable and we all splept very well. The room itself is spacious enough to store our 3 luggages.
We also had a very lovely dinner at their restaurant.
We would definitely come again, when we stay in ishigaki.
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Yuhee (10/5): A great stay - This hotel is in a very convenient location. I was able to enjoy Kabira Bay again and again because it was so close. Also, there is a bus stop right across the street. On top of that, the owner is very kind and friendly. I had a great stay.
- Audrey (9/5): Superb -
- Emily (8/5): Very good -
- Léa (8/5): Very good -
- Ann (10/5): Great breakfast, cozy, peaceful, had a great time - Peaceful, charming, no frills & quiet atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. The other reviews were accurate that the breakfast is amazing and adds great value to the experience. Would be happy to stay again.
- Laura (8/5): Family friendly hotel, nice staff - The hotel was nice and the staff is nice and helpful.
I recommend the place if you want to stay in Kabira. The hotel is located near Kabira bay and you can sightsee on the glassboats
- Zuzanna (8/5): Very good - The host is a lovely person :) The room was clean, and the breakfast really good (I liked the variety of it - each day sth different!). Location is also very good, just 3 minute walk to the beautiful Kabira Bay. The room was quite basic and as an European, I was missing any chair to sit on instead on the tatami. Please note when booking the room that you might get a Japanese-style room with a futon mattress - it's probably not going to be comfortable if you're not used to it!
- Maurice (9/5): Superb -
- Tyoschin (9/5): It was very clean and cosy. Very friendly staff. Overall it was a very pleasant experience - Good breakfast. I liked the Japanese style Stability of internet
- Isabel (10/5): Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room in a peaceful location - Breakfast and dinner were delicious.
- Mathieu (8/5): Convenient location and set up in Kabira Bay village - Pros:
Excellent location, close to Kabira Bay, restaurants, village animations
Clean & comfortable beds
Breakfast option (served at 7am or 8am) and dinner option (from 6pm onwards)
Parking
Very friendly staff Cons:
Room is a bit small, with very little furniture to store and put stuff
Not so many amenities in the room (water bottles, pyjama)
Maybe a bit overpriced even though the island is not cheap overall
- Nicole (9/5): Superb -
- Manfred (10/5): Exceptional - It is a wonderful house with a warm and friendly flair, perfectly located close to the beach and restaurants and even a bus stop.
The host was extremely nice, caring and helpful. She even adapted the breakfast (which changed every day!) for my vegetarian wife. Highly recommend.
- Stephen (9/5): I truly enjoyed the place and the staff. - The staff, the food, the convenience to my destination and the star gazing roof deck.
I would stay there again. It’s not the fault of the property, but it’s located very close to an emergency warning system which loudly played a repetitive and ancient sounding tune that locals practice various traditional arts to. Kids drum, adults swing swords and there’s a lion dance as well. If you’re into seeing and hearing the local culture it might be worth checking out, but it got a little overwhelming after 2 hours nonstop the 3 nights I was there.
- Maria (8/5): Great location and local experience! - Good location steps from Kabira bay and bus stop. Easiness of check in/out process. Staff were really helpful, organized taxi for me the night before. I enjoyed my stay in Joya! Although floor was clean, there were dust balls all around the room which I had to clean with the dust cloth that was in the room. Clean towels were provided daily.
- Monica (9/5): Charming little hotel run by lovely people. - A really sweet little hotel run by a hard-working and charming couple. Central Kabira a stone’s throw away from the bus stop and the glass boat. We were recommended Mantaholic to go snorkelling and they were great too. Being able to dry our washing outside was a great plus.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Megan (9/5): Superb - The property was close to many beautiful beaches and attractions.
The host was really friendly and accommodating to our requests.
We stayed in a traditional Japanese room that came with Japanese breakfast which was really good! The overall experience was fantastic and we highly recommend this place 😊 -
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are extremely nice and welcoming, the breakfast is good and fills you up for the day. Room is nice and has traditional tatami. The bathroom is really small, but is inside the room and has a shower, so it's more than adequate and it is perfectly in japanese standards
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic time staying at Joya. Excellent location up by Kabira beach, easy to walk to Kabira bay as well as to several restaurants in the area. We rented a car due to the infrequent bus schedule, easy parking at Joya. Breakfast was different each day and all delicious! We particularly enjoyed the home-made purple sweet potato jam! We also liked the ability to do laundry, the availability of snorkel gear for rent, and the ability to buy some snacks/water/umbrella on site.
- Alexey (9/5): Superb - A comfy place with friendly hosts. Tasty Japanese-style breakfasts. Very close to a beautiful white-sand shore and turquoise water.
- Seock (9/5): Superb -
- Jiří (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was delicious and we felt like at home!
- Toki (9/5): Lovely accomodation and welcoming host - Very nice owner, very clean and good breakfast. No supermarket nearby, however lots of restaurants in the area
- May (10/5): Exceptional - The main attraction close to Joya is Kabira Bay. Apart frm that, it’s pretty far frm the other attractions.
At night, it gets so dark in the area that you can get a clear view of the Milky way and catch the meteor showers!
The hotel is super clean and I had alot of fun making the futon. The owner’s exceptionally helpful and helped me get familiar quickly:)
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Federico (10/5): Exceptional - The kindness and the friendliness of the staff. The breakfast was different and delicious every morning. We got lots of useful tips from the owner and they have everything you need from snorkel gear to sun cream. We really really enjoyed it! We will go back for sure after winning another fortune in macao ;) Everything was perfect
- Barbara (10/5): Perfect clean and cosy guesthouse near Kabira beach! - The staff is amazing and very helpful: they helped us in booking local restaurants and taxi, provided information about best beaches and bus timetable, offered help on bike rental and also have small grocery items like beers, chips, water and coffee. The guesthouse also offers a very useful laundry service :) Nothing: this place is great! To be noted than Kabira village is a very simple and quiet place: there are just a few restaurants, it is difficult to move without a car and there is not a lot to do... But if you are looking for a relaxing, natural and beautiful seaside resort, with the feeling of traditional Japan this is just the place to be ;)
- Aurora (8/5): Very good -
- Marcela (10/5): Exceptional - Perfectly Clean
Excellent location
The facilities
The breakfast
Kindness and courtesy of Rika (hostess). We received a lot of help and advice.
- Jozef (10/5): Holiday vibe in Kabira Bay - Clean hotel, we’ll maintained by the friendly owners in the heart of nice Kabira Bay, close to restaurants and a small convenience store.
The hotel has a vacation, island vibe and the owners let you feel at home.
We had tow Japanese style rooms: sleeping on tatami, small bathroom, small fridge and water boiler. Every day new towels.
It’s indeed nice to look at the stars from the roof of the hotel or have a coffee in the morning up there.
Would stay here again and recommend the guesthouse. All very nice
- Sovath (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria-teresa (10/5): Confortable and clean hotel - The property is in the middle of Kabira Bay village, close to all the restaurants of the small town. The hotel and room was really clean and comfortable. The owners were really kind and fixed the problem we had with the wifi, installing a repeater close to our room and it worked. We loved looking at the stars from the rooftop of the hotel, absolutely breathtaking (they have a bench at the roof terrace to enjoy the view). Advisable to rent a car as public transportation is very limited and beaches are a bit faraway. Nothing.
- Celia (10/5): Uma verdadeira joia! - The warmth of the owners, the cleanliness and coziness of the inn, and the wonderful breakfasts!
- Katharina (9/5): Superb - The staff was exceptionally helpful and went way beyond anything we have experienced so far in helping us with a problem that occured. We lost our wallet when shopping and it is only thanks to the staff moving heaven and earth (including a last minute wallet drop off at the airport) that we got it back. We were speechless and are very thankful for their help.
The location is great, given that it is very close to Kabira Bay and situated in close proximity to different restaurants. However, a rental car or scooters are recommended to make the most of your stay, because public transportation is rather infrequent.
- Emma (10/5): Amazing stay and host - The host is extremely friendly and welcoming! I happened to gave my birthday there and she found a cake and gave a small present, very thoughtful!:)
The location is perfect, it's close to dive shops, beautiful Kabira Bay and a short bus ride from amazing snorkeling in Yonehara. WiFi is not great, at least in our room. But honestly that is a very small minus
- Joseph (6/5): A real nice small hotel in the Kabira Bay Area, literally 1 minutes walk to the main square. Take your shoes off at the - Great location in Kabira bay. Small hotel with an intimate feel. Nice clean and big (by Japanese standards) bedrooms. Bathroom a bit small (older toilet compared to other hotels I stayed in). Have to make a reservation for breakfast the day before.
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anya (8/5): Very good -
- Gabriele (10/5): Exceptional - Simple, but comfortable Tatami-room with Futon-bedding. Very clean. The host, Yamamoto-san was very welcoming and helpful. She shared a lot of useful information and prepared wonderful breakfasts, both Japanese and Western style. We had a lovely time in this hotel. You need to be fairly slim to be able to use the bathroom.
- Sharyn (10/5): Exceptional -
