Guest Reviews
- William (9/5): Beautiful home, and homestay - Lovely house and lovely hosts. Took us to a restaurant shortly after arriving, to avoid waiting for transport and dropped us off at train station next morning
- Ruwan (8/5): It was wonderful Stay. - I’m satisfied with the friendly staff service, location, facilities they proveded with the room & wonderful breakfast it’s better if the could provide AC.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Outstanding guest house. Beautiful property which is immaculately clean. Huge bedroom, lovely bathroom and use of a seating area.
Close to the station which is actually a better station to go to Ella than Kandy itself.
A short tuk-tuk ride to Kandy, but walking distance from the Botanical Gardens which are stunning, try and spend at least half a day there.
The hosts are such lovely, friendly people and even fixed me up when I felt unwell.
Cannot recommend enough. Nothing. All amazing.
- Caroline (10/5): Wonderful welcoming hosts & a gem of a homestay - Lovely spacious & very comfortable residence with views over the University Science & Medical campus and Knuckle mountain range . Easy walk to the National Botanical Gardens & Peradeniya Train junction station. Remarkable flight of thousands of Giant Fruit bats both dusk & sunrise everyday can be seen from the balcony! Very caring & owners who were most helpful & supportive during my solo adventure around the Kandy & Sigiriya & Hatton area of Sri Lanka. I liked everything very much about this place. Important to be aware that the property is situated above a busy main road so there is a constant noise of traffic though with closed windows it is less so and easy to get used to!
- Tucker (10/5): A wonderful stay in Kandy - Spacious beautiful clean room and ensuite with a relaxing lounge where you can get good wifi. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. Two minutes walk to the beautiful botanical gardens and easy bus access into busy Kandy for the sacred tooth temple and a walk alongside the lake and uptown Arthur’s viewpoint. There was also the amazing spectacle of the fruit bats as we stood on the bridge at dusk flying along the river. Much better to catch the train here rather than the busy main station.
- Nandasiri (10/5): Felt like home. Beautiful house with spacious rooms and a balcony facing green slopes. All facilities are new and functi -
- Vivian (10/5): Perfect in every possible way! - We had a wonderful stay there! Perfectly located if you want to visit the botanical Garden or catch the train to Ella (you can go inside a station before Ella at Peradeniya to avoid the crowd coming in the train at Ella) or if you just want to stay a bit more in nature when around Kandy.
Plus the house and the room are super spacious, absolutely clean and well equipped.
We had the pleasure to see a huge amount of bats flying just next to the balcony and even saw some fireflies on the balcony.
The hot water runs perfectly and the breakfast was amazing too. The Family Host is beyond helpful, we couldn't have wished for more.
If we're ever around Peradeniya or Kandy again we will come back for sure! nothing, everything was perfect!
- Angelina (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful places. Clean room, delicious breakfast. The owners are very nice people
- Jeyashanker (10/5): We would not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend the Shalom to anyone visiting Kandy! - Our stay at Shalom was more than we dreamed or imagined! Everything about this place exceeded our expectations. Conveniently located (less than 2 km from the Peradeniya Railway station), it is central enough to access the main thoroughfares leading to the Peradeniya University, Kandy town etc. Located in a quiet leafy neighbourhood overlooking the Mahaweli river, the beautiful accommodation set in a lovely garden afforded us privacy and was very comfortable. The room was spacious, extremely clean and the large French windows opening on to a balcony had a lovely view of the mountains with the river flowing below.
Every amenity was thoughtfully, and I must say, generously provided for by our hosts. Things like bed linen, a washing machine, bottled water, and a kettle with tea/coffee for an early morning cuppa or a night cap were all available. The attached bathroom was clean, had warm water, clean towels and the necessary toiletries. We were also graciously invited to use the adjacent spacious sitting and dining room area, whenever we wished to.
The breakfast that was included in the booking deserves a special mention too. Although we opted for an American breakfast, the hosts had quite a delicious spread that included a mouth-watering dhal curry and pol sambol along with the western breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages, jam, peanut butter with fruit juice. Being big on breakfast, especially when we are on holiday, this meal certainly did not disappoint us.
The highlight of our stay was the warmth and hospitality of the host family. Mr. Arasaratnam, Mrs. Arasaratnam and their two young daughters were always warm, friendly and very accommodating, making our short stay there both pleasurable and memorable. Although we were a group of three females (my two daughters and myself), we felt extremely safe and quite at home in this gracious environment.
