Guest Reviews
- Joanne (1/5): Nothing to say - The place was closed......we didn't even get but did receive an email about parking 2 days before we arrived....now you have the cheek to ask for a review....totally taking the hickey. Thank goodness the Argosfa could fit us in last minute
- Hazel (4/5): Disappointing -
- G (8/5): Very good -
- Iain (8/5): Very good -
- Rob (6/5): Pleasant - Good Location, nice building with good size rooms and facilities although front garden needed some TLC, fare value and nice local walk for dog owners. no contact when room and code for key box requested so unable to access on arrival until house keeper located. wifi signal very poor, unable to use room TV as no signal. Room door a little close to the bed.
- Margaretta (1/5): 2 hour wait for check in !!!!! Stressed and hot - The property was excellent when we were able to get in . Waited 2 hours before we had our room safe key number . That was despite messaging the property numerous times, ringing sent to answer phone . Booking. com in the end very very helpful and after 2 hrs of being hot and stressed the key holders turned up . Also another couple were there and had the same experience. When they turned up blamed booking . Com for not forwarding the messages , but they messaged me the night before so they did get the messages!!! Will never book this property again . Good property shame about the service
- Sam (7/5): Good -
- James (8/5): Very good - Great location. Very clean and tidy No kettle.
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Macushla (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pam (7/5): It was OK - There was no television reception and as I stayed in while my husband went to a meeting I was looking forward to watching some TV. Also my a husband and I tried 7 times to get connected to WiFi but no luck .
- Andrea (7/5): Comfortable. Would have been advisable to make explicit that breakfast was not included. - Room was warm and comfortable. Very clean and nicely laid out. Shower head was split, it worked OK but about a third of the water went down the hose. This could have been replaced by the hotel before my stay.
Unfortunately it was very windy and I could hear doors and windows rattling throughout the night, but this may not be something that the hotel can do anything about.
- Keith (8/5): Great value for money! - Steph was very helpful sorting out the Booking.com problem. It's a beautiful building. Dog friendly and not making an extra charge is great. Friendly staff on arrival, despite being self check in she was there to help. Its very subjective but the room was very hot! We had to open the windows and turn off the heater.
The design of the back of the bed makes it uncomfortable to sit up in bed and read. Probably structurally impossible but I'd settle for more bedroom and less bathroom!
- Helen (9/5): Lovely stay will book again - Lovely big house and exceptionally clean. Caretaker really lovely and helpful. Nothing
- Melanie (10/5): Absolutely great - We have stayed at Hazeldene before and can’t fault it
The room was lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable
We will definitely return again
- David (3/5): Poor - No breakfast option, good location close to town Shower could have been better to control, TV wasn't tuned in and couldn't be tuned in . Kettle was falling apart, finding bits of plastic in our tea /coffee
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- David (8/5): Good location close to centre - Good location, close to centre of town, lovely old house which has been renovated sympathetically. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Ensuite shower room We were just staying for one night as part of a whirlwind visit to catch up with relatives, and the room was fine for that. Take these as comments rather than outright criticisms. Parking for the property is at ɓack. The directions refer to spotting a green sign for a sports club as a landmark for the turn, the sign is no longer there. The check-in is self check in, on a cold, dark night in January this adds a slight layer of complcation. The room was nice but also awkward. The limitations caused by putting an en suite shower room into an existing room meant that the door opens on to the bed, so you sort of shuffle through and have to then have to close the door to create enough space to get into the room properly a little like a kissing gate.. It's not such a problem when you have no luggage, but when you are laden, it is very awkward.
- Anthony (7/5): Lovely building and location but some refinements in relation to facilities is required - Very near to town centre and a lovely building No toiletries and a few issues with hearting and tv although to be fair these were resolved quickly
- Peter (8/5): Very good - The Lochcarron to my work There was a problem checking in whick left me outside the property for 20 minutes or so. The keys to my room were not in the lock box
- Samantha (8/5): Very good - Feel very comfortable as it's our 3rd visit. Shower pressure is awful 🙂 really hot though.
Husband was cold so extra duvet provided which was great, lovely cleaner.
Last time had no tv remote, this time I think something has happened to main aerial as we retuned tv but couldn't get any channels so no tv at all during stay. Happy to return again.
- Warren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (10/5): A very pleasant and convenient stay. - It was clean and affordable. Needed two more light bulbs.
- Collette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mathew (7/5): Good -
- Paul (7/5): Good - Booking.com says breakfast provided in room. There was no breakfast.
- David (9/5): Superb - Very handy to amenities, ideal situation for what we wanted. We did miss not being met by anyone due to check in by key safe.
- Julia (8/5): Property was clean , well positioned and comfortable - Our room was spotless with plenty of storage and good tea making facilities
- Simon (8/5): Ideal for short stay - Value for money
- Kate (9/5): Superb - Great accommodation in a fantastic location
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Mostyn (3/5): We were really looking forward to staying here as we have visited Aberaeron many times. Disapointed - Didn’t stay long enough to see if there was any breakfast. As breakfast/dinning room messy Bed old and uncomfortable. Bathroom tiny with very very small sink and no working plug. Centre light had just one dim bulb working . Disappointed at the size of the room leaving little or no space on the side of the bed to get in or out. The toilet seat would not stay up and the pan was not fixed to the floor, so moved when in use. This was a self check in so there was nobody to complain to. Would not use this type of accommodation again.
- Abdulbasit (10/5): Amazing enviroment - Great place and the host was very helpful
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Extremely beautiful house with lovely antique features and comfortable in a pleasant location - The house was beautiful with very nice Victorian features, fire place etc and comfortable. Very impressed by the trust in people as we were the only guests staying given there was possibly 5 rooms available. Comfortable and pleasant accommodation. The only slight issue was the lounge room which was very impressive and I presume open to use was a bit cold given the time of year and we could not find ways of turning on the heating.
- H (6/5): I wouldn't choose to stay at Hazeldene again. - Convenient location, just a few minutes walk from the centre of Aberaeron.
A spacious room with clean comfortable bed. An attractive house, but it needed to be aired. There were no other occupants during my visit and I felt it had already been closed off at the end of season.
I was cold - especially in the morning. There were no controls to adjust heating and the radiators stayed cold during my stay.
I returned in the evening to a very dark house. No automatic lights and no knowledge of where to find switches. Fortunately I'd first arrived in daytime and was able to find my room in the dark.
- Samantha (6/5): ok value for money - location & comfort of bed cleanliness wasn't great. shower power wasn't great. no remote for tv. dirty kettle no milk. No heating option.Parking not great could be an issue.
- Susan (8/5): Excellent Value - Beautiful house, really well situated, and the host provided complimentary toiletries and breakfast. The room's en-suite toilet flush broke on the first night of of two night stay. The host tried to get a plumber out on a Sunday. We we able to use the shared bathroom, and we were offered an alternative room to move to.
- Jeffrey (7/5): A comfortable stay. An attractive house convenient for town. - Handy location for a short walk into town. Some of the decor needed a little updating. My colleagues bathroom toilet did not work.
- Anonymous (5/5): Passable - Location was ok Bed was small, no TV controls couldn't watch TV late at night, only small bit of toilet roll
- Alan (5/5): If you say you provide self service breakfast at least provide something - Room was comfortable We did not receive the code for the key safe and had to phone to get it. It arrived in an e-mail after we had set off from home. Breakfast was a joke, a loaf of bread but no knife to cut it Half a packet of butter in the fridge. A few single packets of cereals but only half a bottle of milk in the fridge between all guests. Tea and coffee in the room but no milk, we had use some from the fridge. Glasses provided for fruif juice but no juice.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing quaint and comfortable
- George (9/5): Superb -
- David (5/5): Passable - Nice basic breakfast, although we had to fill the empty kettle upstairs. Some coffee sachets in dining room would be good. Traffic noise in room 2. Also just 1/3 of a loo roll for 2 people was a bit mean! Booking.com indicated there would be a hairdrier, there wasnt. Also no wifi.
- Ollie (8/5): Very good -
- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (6/5): Pleasant - Good location Not staffed; Unwelcoming; more like an Air B n B
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (9/5): Superb - Location Going home
- Debra (8/5): Very good -
- Gwilym (8/5): Very good -
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
- Jordan (6/5): Pleasant - Nice and quiet very clean. lovely and close to the town Arriving on time and having to chase around for the key because it wasn't in the key safe...
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - Isolation and quite. Bigger bed would be good.
- Brian (10/5): Great place but instructions for finding the key need work - The house room dining area garden proximity Finding the key could have been v. Difficult in the dark. I.just saw ir by chance.
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simonne (9/5): Superb - We booked totally last minute as weary traveller's stopping unexpectedly.
Super efficient responses and setup. Easy to find check in and make our way.
Parking was a bonus and the breakfast laid out the bext day was a delight. So generous and an unexpected support to the start to our day. The water pipes were a wee bit noisy which wasn't a problem for us but just worried if anyone else could hear them.
It's a big villa that perhaps could feel a little odd if traveling alone and noone else in but as a couple we loved the place.
- Stewart (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (7/5): It was good but could be improved - Nice bedroom
location
cleanliness No fridge available to keep items such as fresh milk, yoghurts etc cool
TV not working
- Meulblok (2/5): Broom cupboard - distance to the center The website contains very nice photos of a very beautiful building and very nice spacious rooms. Unfortunately, our room number 5 looks nothing like the photos on the site. This room number 5 looks more like a converted broom cupboard, with a toilet and shower in a cupboard in the room. I wonder if this room is up to standards. I saw no smoke detector, there was no escape route and the window could not be opened sufficiently.
Only availability for two cars on private parking.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Sandra (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (8/5): Very nice place to stay for a short break - Property was self check in with good instructions how to access. Parking at the rear was an added bonus. The room and bathroom very clean.and tidy and breakfast was help yourself which was adequate. A chair or stool in the bedroom would have been good.
- Mel (10/5): Very good - What a lovely place the room was clean and tidy with a big bathroom.
It’s in a quiet location very close to the town which we loved
Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again
- Wayne (8/5): Very good -
- Phoo (2/5): won't come there again - Close to local store. well built design house. Lovely room. The bed is very comfortable . The shower didn't work.I was so tired as i finished my backpacking. I was expecting to have warm shower and go to bed. The shower didn't work also i couldn’t put the heater on. The room is so cold and i have to warm up myself with the blanket on. No wifi. I believe the problem above i mentioned could have been solved by contacting the property .The worst is no one rely. Hopefully the host will see this and reply to me.
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - Good communication and comfortable tidy room Poor breakfast provision.
- Jacob (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (7/5): Good - Ideal location, nice room A hairdryer in the room would've been good
- Rachel (8/5): Very good - Clean and well maintained. Lovely big walk in shower. The furniture at the head of the bed was a bit awkward, the shelves did get in the way.
- Joanne (9/5): It was fit for purpose for our needs - Breakfast, albeit simple was adequate
Room and bathroom were expectionally clean We arrived in the dark and Hazeldene didn't look very inviting because no lights were on
Perhaps lights on timer could be used particularly for people arriving on their own
- Emrys (1/5): we did not stay - we booked in at 16.oo hrs rang the bell no answer.so we left and went home.when we booked to stay here we were not told that there would be nobody at. the reception desk.when we arrived home there was a massage on my pc this was at18.oohrs with instructions of what to do to get entry into this building. i dont carry the pc around with me so how could i have read these instructions at 18.00 on 21/5 24. i feel as if i have been robbed of £86.00.Iwill never book this property again and i hope no one else will after our experience.
- Patricia (4/5): Soulless! - Location - good and close to the bus terminus. We didn't see a member of staff! No welcome greeting? It was advertised as Free WiFi, I had to message them, whoever they are, to get the password. No advice etc in the room. The place was 'souless'. Very disappointed!
- Hd (9/5): A comfortable and clean room rental service not a B&B - Very clean, warm and comfortable. Responsive staff by email although they didn't return phone call after I left voicemail. Room slightly on small side, adequate for a night's sleep. Note this is not a B&B, even though it comes up as "Hazeldene B&B" both on booking.com and TripAdvisor. All the reviews mentioning a great breakfast were posted before business recently changed hands. Now it is a room rental service with remote keysafe system. There are no staff on site. Would be good to have an "in case if emergency" contact number in the hall or on the back of room doors. Perhaps if this included a welcome note with the full name of the owner it would all feel a bit less anonymous and transactional. Stairs are steep and poorly lit. Website is out of date and doesn't have current phone number. When I googled phone number I found myself speaking to the previous owner. Guests should be sent keycode in advance, not have to request it.
- Beadle (9/5): Superb - Good location, clean and comfortable. Also very quiet at night. Some confusion with regards to room allocation due to keys not being in correctly numbered keysafe, we were helped to check in by another guest. The room would benefit from a small bedside table.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Car Parking was free for a change.Great location near the town centre.Superbly clean Double room..Lovely bed linen and towels. The fact there was no one at the property.Seemed weird.Shame there was no breakfast offered.
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (8/5): location is great with reasonable rates, i would definatly use this place again - big house with all the old features still intact. No staff there, you get instructions before your stay on how to locate the key to your room. my room (room 1) have a king size bed which was very conmfy, bathroom had shower/no bath. Tea/coffee facilities in the room. very basic and clean. town centre only 5 mins walk. parking at the back of house, you have to drive down a lane to get there, quite tight as cars parked on side of lane. very reasonably priced. no breakfast available but the town centre has many cafes to choose from
- Lindsey (8/5): Great for a one night stay - Location was excellent and it accepted our two dogs No staff/ owner
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Alfred (8/5): Very confortable - Good location, very clean and comfortable. I didn't receive the key code from Booking.com so was waiting around for 30 minutes while I contacted the owner to get the code
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Heulwen (8/5): Very good - It was close to the harbour, restaurants and main street. We had a rapid response to the problem that had arisen with the central heating and everything was sorted out quickly. I didn't realise that a keysafe was the method of obtaining entry to the property and room. It didn't cause a problem, but it was impersonal. No information about the town and area in the house either.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eleri (8/5): Great little place would stay again - Great location , clean room good for dogs. Quiet and decent size room. Instructions didn’t come through so a bit confusing- think that’s a one off though. Bed very soft and room very warm! Bathroom compact!
- Alan (8/5): Ideal place to stay - Everything. Aberaeron is a surprisingly expensive place to stay. Hazeldene guest house is a no frills, no restaurant, very convenient and comfortable place to stay. Excellent value accommodation.
There's no Premier Inn nor Travelodge in the area but this matches those for a 2 night stay. That's what you get. If you want room service or an in-house restaurant then go elsewhere and pay more than double. Nothing, it met our needs for that occasion
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sirrell (8/5): Really good place to stay. Convenient for walking in to the town. - The rooms were very clean and tidy. Beth the member of staff was very helpful. We have stayed at hazeldene before when it was run as a bed and breakfast. It seems to have lost its personal touch as it seems to be run more like an air bnb now. Missed getting up in the morning to their lovely home cooked breakfast. Room was very warm too.
- Smartoneha (8/5): A wonderful welcome, to a lovely house in a quiet, convenient location. - A nice relatively quiet location near a park at the rear of town. Only a short stroll to a park, the river and shops and restaurants. The big benefit was no busy road! A lovely large house, and we were the only guests at the time. Our mattress could have been better, but this is a very personal comment. Others may be more than happy.
