• Fatema (4/5): Disappointed - Staff were friendly enough to give us an early check in. location is good. Rooftop bar was nice. Staff are very nice and helpful. No wifi internet in the room, although I reported it. The sheet had make up stain on it. Noisy area. The electricity when off many times, no generator or electricity backup although surrounding places were on. Somehow all the lights on the stairs and corridors are switched off at night. I had to use my phone flashlight. The pictures on booking are deceiving.

• Anjula (6/5): Pleasant - Good Location. Very close to the Hiriketiya Beach. Staff were also very welcoming and accommodating. Shower area needs to be restructured. Otherwise when you take a shower the whole bathroom is wet and slippery. There was also a musical show / party that was so loud and went on until 3am. It was impossible to sleep.

The breakfast and rooftop yoga sessions are a really nice addition and the staff are super. The bathroom in my room needed a lot of work and there was a strong drainage smell throughout my stay that should be fixed

• Abarrane (8/5): Worth the penny - The food at Taboo is AMAZING. Underrated I must say. Room is clean and spacious and the beach is literally right beside the accomodation. The rooftop of Taboo offers a gorgeous view as well. The blanket was just a sheet which was not very comfortable nor warm.
• Grace (8/5): Great stay - The hotel is in a perfect location, close to both hiriketiya and Dickwella beaches and all the shops and restaurants of hiriketiya. The staff were so nice and friendly, especially Irosh who really made our stay great. The room was nice and having beach towels provided was a plus. Also loved the rooftop yoga and the deal for breakfast and yoga is great. It would be nice to have a fridge in the room. Also for the price, the room felt a little basic (although it was decorated beautifully)

• Zoran (7/5): Roof top bar and restaurant with the best view over Hiriketiya. - The staff are friendly at Taboo and the view from their roof top bar overlooking Hiriketiya Bay is the best there is. The breakfast is great. The property is only yards away from the beach so convenient for early morning surf lessons. You are also only a 10 minute walk from Dickwella Beach if you fancy a quieter vibe. We enjoyed the morning yoga too from the roof top. Be aware the excellent proximity to the beach and nearby bars means you get noise well into the evening as well. The property is yet to be sound proofed. This can be remedied by using ear plugs at night to help sleep. And eye mask is also useful to stop the bright lights coming from the festoon lights outside.

• Chloe (9/5): Very good stay - perfect location. - Excellent location, right on the beach. This hotel seemed to be ‘the place to be’. Live music on the roof until around 11pm. Lovely breakfast menu - offers yoga and breakfast packages. Staff were really nice. It was a little noisy with the live music in the evening (we had an early night due to travelling the next day) - but it did stop at 11pm.

Yoga, breakfast, lunch or drinks at their generous rooftop bar... would recomend it all. The Beach is 1minute walking distance just like nice little restaurants and cute shops. Really hated to leave this place. Loved it a lot. We will come back 🫶

• Parham (5/5): Good location, rest OK not great - Great location just a few metres off the beach Feels more like a hostel than a hotel At check-in, we were informed that we would have to change rooms after 1 night of a 2 night stay, as “someone else was in our room”. After speaking to the manager it sorted it self out

• Zinoora (7/5): Good - Location was good, place was clean and decent had lovely vibe. We got welcome drinks which was an unexpected delight. The blankets on the bed were very thin and of poor quality. Could hear noises from upstairs i couldn't fall asleep well.
• Sophie (8/5): Nice hotel in a fantastic location - The hotel was great and in the best location, just a 1 minute walk to the beach and cafes nearby. The wifi didn't really work in the bedroom which was a bit annoying. The hotel had a really nice cafe on site but the prices were really high which was surprising for Sri Lanka.
• Linn (9/5): Superb - Beautiful and spacious rooms just next to the beach. The food is amazing and the staff super helpful. It is slightly over-priced, the food in particular. But that goes for a lot of places in the Hiriketiya area.
• Tharindu (6/5): Poor value for money, there are better options. - Location and the views from the rooftop. Poor bathroom layout, with all the space it had the shower could have had a glass screen so that the whole bathroom doesn’t get wet when someone uses it. Beds are very firm and overall rooms are bog standard (not like the aesthetic that’s shown in the photographs). Staff aren’t always attentive and serve with an air of pretentiousness.

• Flora (7/5): Nice but had higher expectations for this price - Overall, our stay at Hotel Taboo was nice, but it wasn’t perfect. The best part by far was the location—it’s ideal, especially for surfers like us, with easy access to the beach and great waves. The room was clean, comfy, and spacious, but it didn’t blow us away. The biggest letdown was the bathroom, which had a bad smell, was damp, and felt old and poorly maintained. Also, when we checked in, we didn’t feel very welcome. The first thing the staff mentioned was that we were 15 minutes late, which wasn’t the best start to our stay. Despite these issues, we still had a great time and would recommend the hotel, but for the price, we expected a bit more. The welcome, the bathroom

Also I had cleaning services but they didn’t come in the whole day.. I think you are better off at Salt to be honest.

• Sarah (9/5): Superb - Really nice and modern boutique hotel with a laid back surfer vibe. I highly recommend to choose the breakfast included option, it is a la carte breakfast, really tasty and big portions and you can even have your breakfast until 5pm, so if you check in on your first day in the afternoon you still get your “breakfast” of that day. The staff is super nice and welcoming as well, we even received free coffees and a 10% discount on all drinks ordered from the bar because the room was not finished yet when we arrived at 3pm. The location is great, only a few minutes from the beach, where you can rent a surf board or take surf lessons. Taboo is also only a short walk away from the famous “Smoke & Bitters” bar. not applicable

• Heather (10/5): Excellence in every way ✨️ - The staff at Taboo made staying with them feel like a home from home. From check in to check out all staff were courteous,  personable and actively went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing experience. A special thank you to Iros, who was there to greet my daughter and I at check in, he made a conscious effort to converse with us every day, giving recommendations about what Sri Lanka had to offer. The rooms are clean and modern with generous sized beds. The breakfast was a la carte and definitely the icing on the cake. The chef is passionate about his offering and produces sumptuous dishes with the perfect combination of flavours. His dishes were presented in such a way that would be expected at a top end restaurant. Thank you Taboo staff for making our stay unforgettable, when we return to Hiriketiya we will be staying at Taboo. Not so much a dislike, but something that could enhance the experience further. The en suite doesn't quite reflect the quality of the room and the rest of the hotel, it was a little tired. Some additional shelving for toiletries would be useful too.

• Mark (7/5): Overpriced, but an enjoyable stay. - Taboo is located right in the heart of Hiri, and has clean, functional rooms and an excellent rooftop view. The food offerings are great, with an excellent selection of breakfast and lunch bites. Taboo is very expensive for what you get - essentially a concrete room with a small bathroom. Sure, there are some nice fittings, but it's definitely not worth the nightly fee. The hotel has seen better days, and perhaps needs an update before next season, to justify the price tag.

Too much noise from the coffee bar and from negihbors working all day and star - Good breakfast and closed to the Beach Too much noise from neighbors working all day. Starts early in the morning. Also too much noise from the coffee bar, when you are Living downstairs.
• Eva (10/5): 11/10 - The location is very nice, the breakfast and especially the coffee was really good. The staff is amazing, everyone is supernice and helpful. You reach the beach within a minute and there are a lot of nice restaurants and bars in walking distance. Nothing. :-)
• Brewer (8/5): Lovely short stay - Lovely, short stay, for my first night in Hiri - the location was great, in view of the main Hiri beach but also a short walk to Dikwella. The staff were accommodating and turned around my room, so I could get in earlier. The room was huge and really clean; the bathroom, also super clean. Had a delicious breakfast and great coffee. It's still so new, so the grounds around my room were still a bit of a work in progress. Also be nice to have a proper blind for the bathroom, as it was road facing, but the whole space was lovely overall.

It felt a bit rigid and impersonal, even though the location was close to the beach it felt a little bit squeezed in between the road and the other houses.

• Stevie (6/5): Pleasant - Great location, the room was comfortable and clean with air conditioning. The place seemed very disorganised and the advertising was misleading. There is not a restaurant or bar upstairs that is in use as the pictures show and although there was breakfast I wouldn’t rate it highly and the staff were quite disinterested in service. We also paid upon arrival and they tried to make us pay again on departure. It was all quite disorganised and seems no records were kept. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom smelt of mould and didn’t feel very clean.

• Mary (10/5): Great place, excellent location, nice staff. - Excellent location. Very comfortable bed- which was a first for Sri Lanka. AC and fan worked very well, shower was great too! They allowed an hour later for check out which was great for another morning surf. Breakfast was great- though a bit ambiguous on what was included. Seems the property used to be a restaurant that has since shut down. Either way, it was great that it was as it was nice and quiet at night. Otherwise I’m sure we would’ve heard noise in the room at night.
• Madhusha (6/5): Poor Value for Money - breakfast was ok, not all the options were available. location was good, close to the beach The name of the place has been changed so it was difficult to find the place. and the vibe they have advertised is not the same as the rooftop was literally not used, they do not have parking, asked to use the commercial parking near by but they did not mention that it was not free and we had to find out the prices as they were not aware of it. The toilet sink was leaking and the water was not being drained properly, sink bowl was clogged. I feel like for the price we paid it was not worth it.
• Kevin (8/5): Very good - Really clean and amazing room. Bed was extremely comfortable, shower was great. And the room smelt amazing. Staff very very helpful and Friendly :) would definitely stay again It says sea view but you cant actually see the sea from your room unless your are right at the front..... Only from the shared balcony and even then only partial sea view unless you are on the top rooms.
