- Si Wei (3/5): - Free laundry. Free ride to station at the end of stay. No vegetarian options despite https://www.booking.com/hotel/jp/kanekaku.html explicitly mentioned that
> Dining Experience: The family-friendly restaurant serves traditional Japanese and American breakfasts, including vegetarian options. Dinner is available with a variety of cuisines, including vegetarian.
Furthermore, the owner acted condescendingly when I suggested him to fix the info on booking.com and nothing is fixed after 1 month. That said, he did refund me 10k yen.
He also didn't allow me to stay in the hall after checkout without telling me so beforehand.
- Callum (9/5): - The owners, the breakfast, the room and the bath
- Kent (10/5): Excellent overall, highly recommended! -
- Sean (10/5): Would recommend and would definitely go back - Lovely traditional stay up amongst the snow. Very nice owner and helpful.

- LIFENG (9/5): - Aki is a wonderful host, and Kanekaku is a great place to stay—simple, clean, and homey. The shuttle bus stop to Hakuba Goryu is located right outside the building. Aki even offers a free shuttle to Happo and Iwatake. Although the bathroom is shared, it is well-equipped and has plenty of amenities.

- huan (10/5): - The best hotel is the kind that will make you forget that you are travelling, and this is the case with this hotel in Aki. The room is clean and warm, and the heating is very strong, so you won't feel cold at all. The mattress is comfortable, and I will fall asleep quickly after exercising every night. The hotel's public facilities, toilets and artificial hot springs are also very neat and practical. When you have time, you will see the cut apples on the table in the lobby, which is a very sweet moment. Aki's shuttle bus will take me to two important ski resorts, so I don't have to worry about traffic. I hope to have a chance to come back here and wish Aki and his family good health and happiness.

- Austin (9/5): - Aki was very helpful and good vibes. The hot tub was great. The included breakfast is delicious. Thetly offer a shuttle to happo one Wish the shuttle left earlier. A bit far away from the ski hill and stores.
- Chris (10/5): Kind host,Clean room, nice food - Host of the hostel is so kind.
Dry room is so good.
Pick up service. You might wanna stay for longtime 😂
- Wei Miem (10/5): Amazing Kanekaku - Everything about Kanekaku was beyond expectations. Aki-san really made it a point to make me feel comfortable at his home...from picking me up from the bus stop to helping me get discounted ski gear rentals (and returning them for me) and lift passes to sending me off to the bus stop again. The minshuku is immaculately clean and well maintained with a good ofuro and comfy futon. There's also a heater in the room. The free shuttle bus stop to Escal Plaza (Hakuba Goryu) is just outside the minshuku. Would highly recommend and definitely return should I visit Hakuba again Nothing at all
- John (10/5): Great hotel - Very traditional Japanese hotel. Great experience. Good breakfast and excellent dinner. The owners were really friendly and helpful. Shuttle service to and from slopes. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
- xuan (7/5): - Aki was very friendly and very fluent in English, he provided free shuttle bus to a few resorts and showed us Hakuba's bus schedule. He kindly contacted Yamato service to mail out belongings and reserved restaurants for us since we didn't have a phone number. The place was very quiet and respectful, and there were free breakfast. However, the location was a bit far away from most of the resorts without a rent car and the closest convenience store was twenty minute walk.
- Bretto Mack (10/5): - The family that run this are very friendly and helpful, which makes the stay so easy and enjoyable. They go the extra mile to make sure guests have a pleasant stay in a clean and well setup environment. Breakfasts that were provided varied from day to day. There was a good portion, which got you off to a good start.
The public bath area was nice to settle into at the end of a ski day.
Lots of free parking space.

- Robert John (9/5): Very Nice. A great value! Exceptional service by Aki and family. Both professional & relaxed. - A great value! Exceptional service by Aki and family. The vibe here strikes the perfect balance between professional and relaxed. The important amenities are all represented: Hot bath for Apres, huge gear drying room, tea/cocoa stations and very nice, clean shared bathrooms. it was also common for there to be fresh sliced fuji apples put out as a random snack. if you time it right you might even be there when a local food vendor delivery happens (some of the worlds best fresh tofu!) Make sure and include breakfast in your stay; it is buffet style and super tasty with a wide variety of options and is also a little different each day. While the location is ideal for skiing Goryu and Hakuba 47. it is not in town and there are just not as many food options right near the property. This does also make it a nice quiet place to stay. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it as a great base camp to explore the Hukuba Valley/Japanese Alps. Was able to ski 8 resorts in 7 days from here! Bonus; There are monkeys nearby!
- Jake (10/5): - The owner went above and beyond for us. He was kind and friendly and the place was traditional and beautiful. It was a bargain.
- Pui Ha (8/5): -

- Michael (10/5): Loved it. Would stay again - Welcoming host, nice rooms, clean facilities, good food
- Ardrian (10/5): Amazing host, good breakfast, very pleasant stay - Aki was a great host. The breakfast had a great variety. I was nicely shown around the room when I arrived. Plenty of space in the dry room. The room was large. The host gave me good recommendations on where to snowboard.
- Hagen (10/5): -
- Egor (10/5): - Beautiful authentic place with everything you need. Particularly liked evening onsen and japanese breakfast. Also it had free transfer to resorts. Aki is a very hospitable host, he always made sure we're comfortable. Defenetly come here again
- siping (10/5): - Very good service provided by staff. Especially Mr. Aki who is really helpful. He takes us to snow resort from the hotel to happo one and Iwatake directly. Both locations are bit far from the hotel location, however his personal bus service helps us to reach both resorts easily. He and his family provide very good breakfast each morning.

- Eleanora (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely stay, Aki, the owner, and his family were wonderful! The breakfasts were amazing (the home-made apple jam a highlight) and the bedding was so cozy! The location was pretty good for Goryu and 47, and Aki did drop off/pick up from Happo-one. While we didn't attempt it, getting around to any other resorts (without your own car) may have been a bit more challenging.
- Raven (10/5): - Aki was an incredible host! I got sick and her offered to take me to the pharmacy and was an overall great guy! Super helpful and informative about local food places and how to get around. Top too, downstairs is a lounge area for guests so if you get snowed in, you can relax there and watch some movies The beds are firm but we've noticed this across Japan
- Carlandrea (9/5): Authentic - The staying was very nice. Aki has been an amazing host, with great recommendations of where to go in the area.
We found the location super convenient. Having our own car, it was away from the main Hakuba area but close enough to the ski resort (5 minutes drive to the main lift of Hakuba Goryu) and within walking distance to very nice dinner places.
Breakfast was very appreciated too, with something for every taste.
The cherry on the cake was the Japanese style bath room, ideal to relax after a day on the mountains. Nothing.
- Samuel (10/5): Aki was an awesome host! Amazing authentic experience and we will definitely be back. - Cleanliness was exceptional, provision of breakfast was greatly appreciated, the authentic sleeping and onsen experience was an added bonus! Aki was an outstanding host! Will be back. N/A
- sacha (10/5): - Breakfast weas amazing - set us up for the of snowboardin g shared showers - not a fan, sorry
- Blake (10/5): - Aki is an amazing host, the closeness to a bus stop to the hills and aki transporting you as well is an awesome touch. The facilities are one of a kind for tired legs after a day on the hill. Also the onsen and showers are incredibly enjoyable. We loved our stay and loved Aki and his family as well. Plus the breakkie was a perfect start to a ski day. Stay here Nothing, it was all 10 out of 10
- Nikita (10/5): -
- Lucas (10/5): Excellent Inn! - Copy place to stay, bus stop to Goryu escal plaza is at the doorstep. Aki the host was a total legend! Even took me snowboarding one day!
Would stay again!
- Katarzyna (10/5): Cozy, traditional Japanese stay! - Aci and his family were an amazing hosts. Aci was very helpful answering all my questions. I was a beginner skier and needed recommendations for suitable slops. Aci was giving me lifts to other resorts and bus stop. The location is very close to Goryu ski resort and there are a few yummy restaurants around.
Very clean and quiet guesthouse with cozy, traditional Japanese vibes.
Breakfast was delicious with lots of choices.
I loved my stay and would definitely come back! Everything was great!
- Yiwen (10/5): Excellent - Clean, homy, nice host, simple yet well made and nutritious breakfast everyday.
The location, however not super centred, the shuttle bus to goryu is easily used, 30s walk from the hotel.
Highlight is the bath! Enjoy the most after a day of snowboarding!
The experience is quite cultural, with tatami, Japanese breakfast, and the bath. The whole setting gives me to a down to earth Japanese family vibe. Thank you Aki. None

- Pete (10/5): I would gladly stay here again, and as I said - Aki is the perfect host!!!! - This place is a gem, and the owner Aki is the perfect host, always smiling and happy to help you with any questions - like trying to figure out which of the 10 ski resorts to go to on any given day, or how to get around without a car. He even gave us a ride to the convenience store and pharmacy when one of our party was a bit sick.
The facilities are spotlessly clean and perfectly maintained. The breakfast was plentiful (choice of Japanese or western) each day to get your rolling. I read lots of other reviews about this place and other place to stay so I have a couple more comments: The onsen is the perfect temperature and a great place to soak in at the end of a big ski day (someone commented it was too cold? Nonsense...!). I also noted that several other competing hotels had complaints about not having enough bathroom facilities, that is definitely not an issue here. This place also has a great ski storage/drying room to keep all your equipment warm and dry out each night.
If you don't have a car and you're willing to spend some time on buses, you can ski at any of the 10 ski resorts. Aki runs a courtesy shuttle directly to some of the closer resorts, or to the bus station for the further ones. It does take some time (anywhere from 5 minutes to 90 minutes depending on where you go and when). The only thing I'd note is that if you don't have your own car (which you really do not need) is that its not possible to get to the ski resorts early enough to get first chair on a powder day with the schedule of the hotel shuttle and the town buses, although Aki did give me a ride early one day when I mentioned it. Also this hotel is in a quiet residential area, and not that convenient to very many restaurants if you don't have a car - there are a handful within 15 minutes walk as opposed to many if you are staying in downtown Hakuba or Echoland. The hotel will prepare dinner for you, and they do have a bar, so depending on your interest in eating out and exploring this may or may not be an issue for you; there are always taxis available as well.
- kim (9/5): We had a great stay, enjoying the Japanese sleeping arrangements, the evening meal was home made and delicious. - Good location with a good bus and shuttle service, the breakfast snd evening meals were delicious.

- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great tradtionally japanese family run B&B . Absolutely the friendliest most engaging helpful host. Aki is just an all round great dude..
On the Goryu side. Shuttle stop literally 1 min. Its at the quieter part of town.
Room are Japanese tatami style and immaculately clean & warm. Set breakfast is sufficient to get you up on the mountain.
Couple of local restaurants walking distance. But buy you snacks and drinks first.
It is a modest homely type establishment do those expecting LUX 5-6 star look elsewhere Those looking for bang for the buck..this is your place Nothing or maybe just run the hot tub pool water warmer and have a morning hot pool option.
- Laura (9/5): A classic Japanese inn run by wonderful people - Aki and his family are so lovely! The breakfasts were fantastic and the inn was so cosy This is close to Goryu, so great if they are the resorts you're hoping to go to. If you're planning to try see all the big ones in Hakuba, it takes quite a bit of time and bus messing about to get to the northern ones (like Cortina). So hire a car if you're staying here :)
- Ryou (10/5): -
- Sabas (9/5): Fantastic - Shuttle to the slops is at door step and the stay provides an authentic Japanese experience. Excellent value for money
- Shegalla (10/5): Very pleasant stay - I will definitely come back ! - I loved that this property is a traditional Japanese home style stay - I felt right at home and Aki (host) was so kind and helpful about which mountains to visit for snowboarding ! This week was a bit tricky in terms of the conditions, so we really appreciated expert local knowledge from Aki. Other elements that I appreciated a lot was the home style soak bath and showers, breakfast and coffee already prepared in the mornings! Another plus is I didn’t have to worry about reserving a parking space beforehand !
- Eoin (9/5): Superb staff and property would recommend - The traditional b&b nature of it Showers only operating between 17:00-21:30 and the hour or so for breakfast
- Avin (10/5): Cozy inn that will make you feel at home - A very cozy husband-and-wife-run inn. Exceptionally clean and comfy. The heated kotatsu, the tatami flooring, futon beds made our experience so cozy in winter for the ski season. The bathroom with the onsen-like experience, you shower and hop in the hot pool. Such a great way to cap off a day of skiing. The value for money of the place is unreal, I genuinely could recommend anyone this inn if you're staying in Hakuba.
I cannot understate the HOSPITALITY we were provided, shout out to Aki and his family for giving us a stay that we will remember. There is nothing to say here. I thoroughly enjoyed our whole stay.
- Jack (10/5): - Fantastic authentic feel to the place. The host was the best part, couldn’t be more helpful!
- Yuki (10/5): - Good location good food and good people. We very enjoyed tatami and kotatsu . Stuff are very lovely and kind , highly recommend this place
- Aradi (10/5): -
- Cevat (9/5): - It was very clean and the place was very charming. The owners was also very nice
