Guest Reviews
- Soeren (9/5): - Toll war der Parkplatz direkt vor der Unterkunft. Es war auch sauber und es wurde sogar gefragt ob nach einer Woche Bettwäsche und Handtücher gewechselt werden sollen.
- Colin (9/5): Does exactly what it says on the tin! - Good booking and check in instructions. Clean, everything I needed was there, tea making and fridge really useful. Nothing, all good!
- Shravanakumar (8/5): Very good - Cozy bedroom and a living room. Shower and bathroom are nice and clean. It’s little far from the railway station. Difficult to locate the property in the dark winter. The google maps suggested different route than the actual easier one.
- Florian (10/5): - Shaun is a great host! Spacious rooms, generous selection of coffee, hot chocolate and cookies that was even topped up after the first night!
- Radoslav (10/5): The perfect accomodation if you want to visit The Tank Museum. Very calm area. The only thing that could make of even be -
- Mariusz (9/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): - Location was good for the things I had planned to do. I could hear conversations from the main house.
- Guest (10/5): Will definitely use again - I have stayed before - very convenient location and friendly host. The facilities were exactly what I needed for my stay. n/a
- Marisa (7/5): Extremely clean and comfortable - A quiet, comfortable stay on a residential road with off-street parking.
Fresh flowers on the windowsill a welcoming touch. Everything felt very clean and fresh and Shaun provided ample information for our stay.
The shower room is excellent and ample storage available if needed.
Lovely to have windows to open! There is very little soundproofing between the two residences, but putting that aside, the facilities work really well. I welcomed the additional sitting room area, and this really worked well for us.
- Jen (10/5): - This is a lovely, quiet and relaxing place to stay. There is a sitting room with tea and coffee making facilities, and a bedroom and ensuite, all clean and well cared for. It's not self catering but a fridge was provided which was great. It's located very near to the local chip shop and Chinese (ask for disposable cutlery if you want to eat back at the digs!), and a pub that does meals. We really loved staying here and will stay here again next time we visit Monkey World 😃 Nothing!
- Riccardo (10/5): - Fantastic apartment The sink in the bathroom is a little small
- Ian (8/5): -
- Jaroslaw (10/5): - size of the room,parking space.
- Guest (8/5): Good location and good value for money. - No breakfast provided. Location was good
- Razvan (10/5): Great stay and lovely location - The town/village is quite small but a lovely place, nice and calm.
The house and locations were very nice. It is easy to find and the directions you recieve are easy to follow. It is a few minutes walk from the train station.
The bedroom was spacious, clean and very well kept. The facilities were, likewise great and lots of space.
The comunual room is large and good to relax and watch some TV after visiting the area and the presence of a small fridge is great.
- Conrad (9/5): Well maintained, clean, comfortable quiet accommodation as base for Jurassic Coast/Isle of Purbeck - Well maintained, clean, comfortable and quiet accommodation well located as a base to explore Isle of Purbeck and Jurassic Coast by car, and in easy distance of Wool rail station. All basics are well provided for and guests are made welcome. No issues of note.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, our privacy was respected so well and the bed was really comfortable. :) Nothing
- Foster (10/5): Exceptional - A very pleasant and well presented property, in a very quiet village. Perfect for a couple! It accommodated all of our needs
- Thomas (5/5): Just ok - The location.
The shower, very powerful 💪 It was a bit tired looking and could do with a bit of tlc. Garden overgrown around front door, defective door trim, damaged carpet.
Although not advertised as available, I asked if there was the use of an iron and ironing board. I was flying to the area due a wedding and had a shirt that would need ironed again after travel. Initially I was told no, and when I asked what other guests had done was told no one had ever asked for an iron before. I was then informed by the owner that there was no iron for fear of damage to fixtures and fittings. I could understand this if the place was decorated to a 10/10 standard but imo it's not. In an attempt to come to a compromise the owner then offered me the use of an iron and iron board at a pre-arranged time and only if under supervision. I declined!
- Toshirskij (10/5): Exceptional - Great calm location, not far from Stonehenge and Bovington Tank Museum (it was my main destination), some small shops and takeout food nearby. Parking spot. All the instruction how to self-check are very clear and described by owner precisely. Some tea/coffee/hot chocolate, drinking water, TV and couch to relax. Typical English double faucet in the lavatory, separate cold & hot water, but I guess, when in Rome do as the Romans do :) Otherwise all was good.
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent stay and polite host - Shaun was very polite and helpful. The place was in an excellent area to explore the south coast. Nothing.
- Hanna (10/5): I would happily recommend this accommodation. And I would love to come back here. - I am very happy with our stay at Ballantrae. It was very cozy and homely. I also want to thank you for the coffee, tea and delicious cookies, it was nice. It was clean and comfortable. The host did everything to make the guests feel at home. Non
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (9/5): Superb - Good communication throughout. Off road parking, fridge, kettle with tea coffee supplies, large satellite TV. Close to sights of interest. Good value. Some fixtures and fitting not to the highest standards, but the price reflects that.
- Marzena (10/5): Spacious and quiet - There's a lot of space provided for the guests. There's a bedroom and a living room available. The street the house is situated on is very quiet. It's within a walking distance from the train station, Jurassic Coaster route and a pub and some shops. The bathroom was very clean.
- Rishabh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Galina (10/5): Exceptional - It was as at home, quiet and clean, free parking. We had lovely dinner at the pub ( 5 min walk). If we will travel by same route, sure, I will choose Ballantrae again All was fine
- Sabine (7/5): Good - Nice and calm place, very clean, comfortable bed. We were lacking a microwave or something similar.

- Avery (9/5): Vfery pleasant stay - Good location with a nice pub serving good food just a few minutes walk away. Very comfortable. nothing. It was all fine.
- Sean (9/5): Great little house in a great location - Plenty of space, clean and well equipped in a great location close to local shops and pubs. Off street parking is a bonus.
Host lives on site and is very helpful. This is the 3rd time I've stayed there and its always good. nothing
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Esmond (8/5): An enjoyable 2 night stay. - A good location.
- Abbey (10/5): Amazing stay - We absolutely enjoyed our stay. The bed was very comfy, and we slept very well! The accommodation was cosy and had everything we needed. The information booklet provided by the host was very useful and made our stay much easier in finding places locally to eat. Would definitely recommend staying here.
- Lo (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (9/5): Perfect for what I needed. Covered all the bases. Thanks - Great facilities. Weird I know, but a table lamp in the living room!!!
- Edward (10/5): If price stays reasonable then I may visit again - Very handy for my stay and to get around Dorset and local area which I do know well Left a list of improvements for Shaun to think about whether he takes these on board ?
- Karen (7/5): Good value for money. Location ideal for us. A few small additions would make it ideal. - Comfortable bed, good shower pressure. Location. Value for money. Small lounge. Would be nice to have small table and 2 chairs. Microwave would have been handy. Heater fan very noisy.
- Andy (9/5): Great location - Very nice place, very well kept and everything you need for a couple days, there is so many great places around here, you have a lounge area you can use also. Nothing but i would say it be good to have a lock on the bedroom door
- Ginta (9/5): Perfect - Nice house in a quiet street, in a perfect location, near to all local attractions.
Perfect for exploring the Isle of Purbeck.
Information booklet was very helpful.
Would recommend to anyone and definitely go back again.
We liked everything - really friendly and helpful hosts, everything we needed. A microwave would be very useful !
- Bjorn (7/5): Good -
- Pipa (8/5): Great little stay, thoroughly recommend. - Really close to arne and studland and wareham which was great. There's a little shop around 5 minute walk away. Bed is really comfy and shower is great.
There's a nice little lounge area with a big tv with netflix and youtube and other streaming services and kettle and little fridge was is very handy. Only downside was that we had to leave early after one night due to family emergency and couldn't get a refund which was a shame but i understand. Will stay again if in the area.
- Sheena (9/5): Great find-will certainly consider using again - Location, cleanliness, plenty hot water, private, spacious, comfortable. No issues
- Will (8/5): Very good -
- Guerini (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect, great for my 1 night stay.
- Lucas (10/5): If I would visit the area again I'd book Ballantrae. You should too. - Near perfection. Cozy, clean, comfy. Short walk from village center, short drive from my travel destination, which was the Tank Museum. The only thing was the mirror in the bathroom, which wasn't big enough or hung high enough for the tall fella like me. :D
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anastasiia (10/5): Excellent, would certainly stay again. - What a lovely experience we had staying at Ballantrae. The property was cosy and welcoming, very clean and comfortable. The location is also excellent, on a quiet street, within short walking distance to the train/bus station, shops and the local pub which we found to be superb. We were also kindly provided with a kettle, a mini fridge, TV and fresh water/snacks every day. We did also enjoy reading the Welcome booklet very much upon arrival, so nicely put together 😃 Shower was sparkling clean and working perfectly. Bed was comfortable. Last but not least, the price was very affordable. Everything was great really. We would definitely like to stay at Ballantrae again when in Dorset. Thank you very much Shaun.
- Annika (9/5): Lovely weekend by the sea - Well located room with a private lounge only a short drive away from the sea. Comfy double bed. Sofa in the lounge with a smart TV, little fridge and tea making facilities. Great curtains that keep the sunlight out, ideal for lie-ins. We had a great weekend! The lounge could do with dimmer lighting but this is only a minor point.
- Tomy (9/5): Superb - The calm and quiet atmosphere was really a plus point.Everything was neat and perfectly organised. Nil
- Nicola (10/5): We'll be back! - Set in a quiet street with parking right outside the door. There were pubs and shops within walking distance. Perfect for Monkey World or the Tank Museum (5 minute drive). The bedroom was small, but cosy and it was really good to have the separate lounge. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. The rooms had everything that we needed. We were only there for one night, but it would be ideal for a longer stay or for anyone working in the area. Nothing
- Alejandra (10/5): Exceptional - Great location if you want to visit the Jurassic coast. The room is exactly as shown in the pictures. it was tidy, clean and comfortable.
- Peter (3/5): Disappointed - No breakfast available Attitude of host on arrival
- Aaron (8/5): Simple, clean, comfortable - Great location for what I needed. Simple accommodation but comfortable and clean. Shaun was very helpful during my stay. Highly recommend if you're visiting the tank museum or monkey world in the vicinity.
- Sarah (9/5): A lovely escape - Lovely cosy bedroom
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jnsdnk (8/5): Very good -
- Sean (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (10/5): A friendly welcome by the host & a quiet location. Overall, very good value for the cost. - No breakfast was provided but a kettle with drink options were there. A TV with satellite access in a separate private lounge was also provided so that was a bonus. The location was also very quiet being away from a main road so that ensured I had a good night's sleep. Location was also ideal to walk less than 10- minutes to a local Pub for my supper. Nothing really in terms of my specific needs.
- Kai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Great room with en-suite and additional living room area. The landlord couldn’t have been more helpful during our stay.
- Adrian (10/5): strongly recommended - the best shower ever !
nice , quiet, close to work and other amenities
cosy place N/A
- Gunnar (9/5): well-priced, spacious and comfortable BwB (Bed without Breakfast) - Spacious combo of a double bedroom together with a living room suited for nasty weather conditions, located in walking distance from Wool railway station. The landlord is a very nice and helpful man. I liked his introduction into himself, the accomodation and Wool with its surroundings in the 'useful information' booklet. A nearby Pub 'The Ship Inn' provided lekker food and local conversation. At the Wool train station there are Beryl bikes available for rent. The heating in the living room was not working properly, it was only lukewarm - which was sufficient in November weather conditions because the radiator in the bedroom could do the work alone. In Bailey's Drove there are no house numbers, therefore I had to doublecheck the email instructions when arriving after sunset.
- Chris (7/5): Good -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- 조 (8/5): Very good - Very clean. Little Cold.
- William (8/5): Good location as was near to our friends. - No breakfast was provided. Was in a convenient location as we were visiting friends in the area. Accommodation was clean and comfortable, outside garden good do with some attention to give it more kerb appeal.
- Bartosz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carol (8/5): Lovely place - The unit was lovely. The pictures of inside the unit were exactly the same as in real life. The whole unit was clean and serviceable. Shaun left us some coffee supplies and biscuits that were most welcome. It had a kettle and a small fridge.
The bathroom was clean, and the shower was hot.
The bed was a little soft but good. Once I got in, I was fast asleep in no time.
The location was good. I found a small path directly to a grocery store and Asian takeaway.
A little bit further was the "Ship Inn"and the train station. I am not fit, but I would have walked it in about 15 to 30 minutes. The couch was lovely if you were on your own or had skinny bottoms. Both my husband and I felt uncomfortable on it. I ended up sitting on the floor to eat.
When I booked, I didn't realise that it was an Air BnB setup. Shaun lived in the back of the house, and my husband and I were section off made into a private unit at the front of house. In our private lounge area. We could hear everything he was doing. When he was talking presumably to the dog, cooking, washing up, or watching his TV. It made us uncomfortable. However, in the bedroom with the door shut, we could not hear a thing. So we had an early night as we were both tired anyway.
- Giovanni (10/5): Confortable and clean accomodation with private parking - Great accomodation, comfortable and clean, easy check in/out system. Had everything I needed for my stay. Not so easy to find, however the indications from the host were very accurate which it made a bit easier. Maybe a sign outside with the name of the property would make it a bit easier to find.
- José (10/5): Dream fulfilled! - I have really felt at home. A real, very welcoming surprise.
The location and proximity to the train station has made my visit enormously easier. I would be lying if I said I didn't like something.
- Sutton (8/5): Met requirements. - Quite a large lounge area, bedroom a little small, but lovely and clean. Would have liked net curtains to afford more privacy in bedroom during daylight hours.
Shame breakfast not available.
Some noise from owners who also lived in the property, but only normal daily living sounds
- Manaena (10/5): Super happy - It's very private, super clean, the host was very friendly, and you have your own separate seating area as well, great location, close to services, only a ten minute walk from the train station, definitely would stay again!!
- Sandaru (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent place to stay, we really enjoyed.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (8/5): Reasonably priced room for a basic short stay - The location was very convenient and it was very clean. It was literally the front room of a house converted. It was more like a Bed & Bathroom rather than a Bed & Breakfast. However, the price was fair and reflected this. It was perfect for my needs for one night. I could hear the next door room quite easily. Just a locked door separating the rooms. Thankfully the people next door quietened down and it wasn’t a problem.
- Sylvia (8/5): A nice base for exploring whilst visiting family. - The location was great for us, the property was clean and tidy.
- David (10/5): Perfect for my stay with a friendly host. Would easily return in the future. - Great location and lots of space to feel comfortable in.
- Maria (10/5): Just what i wanted and excellent value for money - Close to tank museum. Very comfortable bed Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Great value for money - Comfortable and clean. Helpful, accommodating and friendly host
- Excell (10/5): Ideal for my needs - I was not really expecting two rooms but the sitting room with TV and wifi was very welcome. The fresh flowers in both windows was a homely touch. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The shower was easy to operate and the water became warm quickly. The front door light turned on as my car arrived in the dark and the drinks provided were welcome. Although no breakfast was provided by the facility, the host had provided a mini fridge so that I could keep milk etc for my own breakfast - very thoughtful and appreciated. Although I didn't actually walk in the area, the local shops were in easy walking distance so the location was goo. It was situated on the Wareham to Dorchester Road with easy access to tourist spots. I'm not used to a TV with two remote controls and I sometimes struggled to get a signal and change channels.
- Malcolm (8/5): I hopped on the bus to Durdle. Didn't stay long enough for Monkey World & the Tank Museum nearby - Friendly host. Comfortable stay. Good location: Nice pub, train station & bus stops, shops & takeaway all less than a 10minute walk away. Not much to dislike. I wasn't too fussed that the tissue box was empty. I'm sure if I had asked for some tissues, the host would have supplied them.
- Mohit (6/5): Pleasant - Location is soo bad there no shops near by and takeaway is not allowed and staff was so rude facilities is good
- Varma (9/5): Super host, excellent location - The location of this homestay is so convenient. Me and my husband enjoyed this sweet little room all thanks to our great host Shaun and his hospitality. The living room had a hot kettle, tea coffee neatly presented on the table. The bedroom was very clean and warm. The bath had an array of clean linen. soap, shampoo and lotion so you don't have to worry about carrying bottles of these around( although we did, coz we didn't know :p). Shaun was very gracious and welcoming, he often asked if we wanted anything to be restocked. There is an informative brochure in the house that tells you about nearby attractions and food places. For any meals and groceries there is a deli, mini tesco, restaurants just round the corner. If you don't feel like a walk or bad weather, can still order through just eats online app. Also it's a 5 minute walk to the station and bus stand which runs between durdle door and lulworth cove every hour. The bus drivers are very kind as well. It's a small town but lovely people and has a warm country side vibe everywhere. Our holiday paid off extremely well. Thank you.
- Paul (9/5): very helptul -
- Agoro (10/5): A nice quite location perfect for a short weekend. - Close to all the important areas. I came from a wedding so it was handy that it was very close to the nearby castle.
I enjoyed the ensuite bathroom, and the room/space in general and the fact it came with parking.
Even came with some treats, like bottled water and coffee etc etc.
Very convenient The parking was a bit hard to get into, but that is not something that anyone could fix. Just park on the road if you arent confident in your reversing.
- Catherine (7/5): Very easy lovely location and pleasant host - Location superb for visiting Dorset very easy to access beautiful beaches and countryside as well as museums and historical sites Maybe a mini fridge if staying more than 2nights ,windy night made security lights come on which was a little disconcerting until I realised what the light was .
- Brent (10/5): Very comfortable spot for a trip to Tank Museum - This property is clean and well appointed. The shower is fantastic, and the bed very comfortable. The TV is modern with all the current streaming services able to be used, wifi fast. The owner is very knowledgeable on the area, and very easy to communicate with. I used this property to visit the Tank Museum and it worked well. The Ship Inn was a good pub, and the Hidden Deli had excellent food only a short walk away - overall a great stay There are no street numbers so you just have to aim for the corner of Baileys Drove and sydneham crescent and use the booking pin - so patience with cab - but easy enough
- Fiona (10/5): My stay was excellent just wish it could of had been for longer. Accommodation clean and Shaun the host was very friendl - Everything Only when the lock played up which Shaun sorted it out very quickly.
- Ajay (9/5): Overall, we enjoyed our stay, host Mr. Shaun is a really nice person. - The guest house a a double room with en-suit as well as separate living area which is great. Everything was great! Everything was perfect but fridge and microwave were not available which should be there I think being basic necessity.
