Guest Reviews
- Preetham (10/5): A great stay - The stay was clean, had the required amenities, the shared space and the room has a fantastic view of the Nile. Accessing the boat from Aswan mainland was seamless (there is an efficient and affordable public ferry). Mahmoud the host also helped in arranging airport transfer, taxi to the sights and felucca ride. Ahmed was our driver for 3 days and he was the best driver we had in our trip Breakfast could have been better

- Parris (9/5): Relaxing stay on the waterfront! - This is an incredible place to stay. We loved the location on Elephantine island, the views are lovely and it’s such a chilled out vibe. Mohammed our water taxi driver was so helpful and Machood the boats caretaker was friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. These two guys are brilliant! They made our stay extra special. The decor was cute, breakfast was delicious, it had all the amenities you’d need. There was a fridge with drinks and you wrote down what you took and paid at the end. We loved the experience! It is a bit noisy with it being a boat, so pack earplugs. There’s 4 rooms so you may be sharing with other people which I didn’t realise. Rooms are a little snug but the living room, deck and upper deck make up for it.
- Wei (10/5): The most beautiful view of the Nile and the best staff. - Anakob was one of the best accommodations we had in this Egyptian trip. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing and unique place to stay. We were so happy staying here for 4 nights.
The location, the view, the service and the staff were amazing.
Mahmoud was so professional, attentive and reliable. He helped us for all sorts of arrangements and kept checking on us to make sure everything went well.
The boat, the room and everyone were so clean and nice. We do like the brand image as well.
It’s highly recommended~~ such a wonderful life experience to stay at Anakob.
Thank you, Mahmoud and the team, for having made such a wonderful memories for us. :)
- Chatterjee (10/5): Exceptional -
- José (10/5): Amazing stay - Very comfortable, great view, very clean, and amazing service.
- Landen (9/5): Amazing houseboat experience - Incredible views, super cool houseboat, and very friendly helpful staff. Cooked us amazing breakfast and maintained great communication before, during, and after the stay including bag pickup and drop-off by boat from the mainland. Tons of fun arriving by boat or by walking through the island to get here. Lots of fun restaurants nearby. Great bathrooms with hot water and good pressure. Air conditioning in each room. Super clean and well maintained. Comfy beds. Highly recommend! Would 100% stay here again. Only thing that I want other travelers to be aware of is that even if you book out all the rooms on the boat, the boat is not private. The men who work here are awesome and super friendly, but they will be hanging out and smoking on the back deck making things not as private as I thought they were going to be.
- Yw (8/5): Very good -
- Lima (8/5): Very good -
- Kostas (8/5): Very good - The location ,it's tranquility & of course Mahmout !
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebekah (10/5): Great stay, we reccomend! - Great stay and good for anyone staying more than 2 nights in Aswan, based on elephantine island! We really loved the location and the sunset and sunrise each day was amazing from the room. Rooms were very modern and comfortable and the staff were very helpful especially Mahmoud. Sometimes it was tricky to get over to the mainland, however it is very well connected by a ferry and speedboat. Boat stocked drinks but would be good to stock snacks also to save having to source from elsewhere
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional - Staff and facilities
- Bianca (7/5): Good -
- Juan (10/5): Amazing Views - The family that owns the hotel is extremely polite and accommodating. They were always on top of everything and helped me coordinate all my travel to Abu Simbel and back to Aswan.
- Cristiana (4/5): A not-so-good experience - We had high expectations about Anakob due to reviews and pictures, but the reality did not match. While location is good, it is not so convenient as you always need a boat transportation to go everywhere. Inside the house boat is more worn out than photos show. The room was just basic and sheet had few stains. A curtain fell as we were opening it and was not repaired during our two-day stay. We had poor wifi. We ordered a dinner that took over one hour to be served. In the morning we had organized with the manager a v early pick up to airport: we woke up in the middle of the night to wait half hour a boat that never arrived and had to urge them to take the boat of the guesthouse not to risk missing our flight. For what you get, 90USD a night is definitely overpriced. We are sorry to say that we’d not go back to Anakob. The house boat is pretty from outside and the location is beautiful on the river. Roof terrace relaxing with a view.
- Andrew (7/5): Nice property but be careful with the dishonest stuff - Great place to relax, see the Nile river and see the sunset. Little bit out of the way, need to rely on boat transfer to get in and out.
No internet through out my 1 day stay.
Now the main reason that I did not rate this place with high score, it is because the staff
tried to scam us every chance he gets, he even tried to extort money from my boat driver who
was just being nice to drop me off at the boat house after my river tour. The man scammed
me for breakfast money that was supposed to included in my booking, but since I did not
have internet, I paid him $300 EPG since I got no proof. Then, he asked me for $200 EPG
for boat transfer at checkout, which I know for sure was included, as soon as I said it is included,
he backed off. This staff really ruined my experience, I don't mind to help local people, I tipped
him well, but I should not, since he tried to scam us so many times.
- Sally (10/5): Magical Experience - We had the best experience ever in Aswan, and the Boathouse truly added to the magic. We loved the boat, and the view was beyond amazing. Special thanks to everyone we met, and special thanks to Mr. Mahmoud Abdoun and the ferry crew for hosting us and introducing us to the fascinating characters of the Nubian people. Truly unforgettable! ⛵
- Gerben (10/5): Exceptional - Very special place to stay. At the right (quiet) side of the island and with very supportive staff. At night you can hear the walking bridge to the boat croak and screech against the wall, which is quite a bummer if you try to have a nice night of sleep. Some earplugs and everything is fine, however!
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional - We had the most amazing stay at Anakob and really couldn’t recommend this place enough if you are looking for fantastic hospitality and an unforgettable stay on the River Nile.
When we arrived on our overnight train from Cairo, Mahmoud (in house manager) had arranged a driver to pick us up from Aswan station and he took us to the ferry port where a motorboat was waiting to take us to our accommodation. The process was smooth and really appreciated after a long night on the train. We were also able to check into our room straight away which had brilliant air conditioning and a warm shower. Upon freshening up we were welcomed with a refreshing hibiscus drink, beautiful coffee and ordered a chicken tagine for lunch for only 200LE which was delicious.
During our stay Mahmoud arranged drivers to take us to both Philae Temple (Mahmoud) and one to Abu Simbel (Ahmed) and both cars were really comfortable making it a very pleasant experience. The drivers waited for us whilst we explored the sites which was great. I would really recommend booking through the accommodation as it made the whole process very easy!
On both nights of our stay we headed out for dinner and again Mahmoud organised motorboats for us to take us to, and pick up from the different restaurants we visited.
We want to say a massive thank you to Mahmoud & his team for a wonderful stay at Anakob, we will definitely be back if we return to Aswan in the future!
- Yu-chia (10/5): Perfect! - We love the location! It’s quiet and beautiful Nothing
- Nan (8/5): it would be nice maybe in the winter when Aswan is not that hot - staff very helpful i would say the location. it is a bit of a trouble taking the ferry to the island, and if you have heavy luggage, you can hire a private boat that cost 200 egyptian pound from the ferry directly to the hotel. And also, the main reason i booked this hotel is hoping to enjoy a lovely evening on the roof top. but i have underestimated the heat of Aswan. In the middle of the night, the wind is hit wind like blowing out from a hair dryer. It is not pleasant to stay outside temperature wise. So you can’t enjoy the evening on the rooftop as imagined.
- Pamela (7/5): it was ok - it’s clean and renovated location and charges
- Pamela (6/5): ok -
- Jocelyn (9/5): Superb -
- Yara (8/5): Very good -
- Debangshu (10/5): Amazing stay on a lovely houseboat - The houseboat is nestled in a beautiful place on the quieter side of Elephantine island. It is very well maintained and has all the modern amenities one expects to find in a hotel. The houseboat staff are all Aswan locals and very polite and well mannered. Adding to these, the excellent views from the houseboat rooms and upper decks help to make the stay an amazing experience. nothing
- Phil (9/5): Superb - The location was amazing. We got a private water taxi right to the boat. It was lovely just chilling on the top deck watching the world go by. The staff were very attentive and came to talk to us. They even walked us over the island to a local restaurant. It was a very memorable and relaxing stay There wasn't any thing that we disliked.
- Vivek (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent and we'll maintained boat with 4 rooms. The common areas are fantastic and the deck is amazing
- Vivek (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely fabulous boat property, docked in a very nice and quite place just behind movenpick.
- Ola (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent views,Excellent staff,excellent location Nothing
- Silvan (1/5): Dispointing experience - Good location to explore Aswan and surrounding, nice rooftop. The place is very overpriced for sure and extremely unclean. The bathroom was disgusting and not even clean bedding. The airport pickup was even overprived and given that it was canceled last minute. I wouldn't recommend at all
- Anastasia (9/5): Our second stay in Anakob. - This time it was our second stay in Anakob as we were amazed by the view from the boat and the concept itself (to stay on a boat). Perfect for chilling out and relaxation. The stuff are always nice and helpful. The room has really good amendments (hot water is strong), AC is working really well for cold and warm air. The beds ere super comfortable and soft. I know that to keep the hotel on the boat is much more difficult than a normal one. However, being picky, I can say that in comparison with our first time, we felt that the rooms are a little bit tired and bedsheets should be changed. Although it didn't ruin our stay. We had a great time and will make a stay in Anakob our tradition.
- Antonia (7/5): Good - The accommodation is really unique and special, the island on which it is located is beautiful, a small boat takes you to the place, the rest is magical. Very European arranged. I would recommend staying on the island for several days because it is really peaceful and quiet, unlike Cairo. The right place to rest. Unfortunately, we were there for one night and part of the morning and could not fully enjoy the beautiful weather on the terrace and fully enjoy the peace and quiet. I would recommend the accommodation, but definitely after reading everything below, contact the owner and ask for everything you need, and I'm sure there won't be any problems 😊 But the accommodation had its drawbacks. The host is an elderly gentleman who speaks bad English, stands in the room all the time and you have the feeling that you cannot relax. You don't have access to the kitchen because the host is there all the time and if you try to do something yourself, you won't succeed. The breakfast was very bad, we were given a choice of feta cheese and some sliced cucumber and eggs, considering that we don't eat eggs, it was the same as dry bread. There was no coffee on offer. The space was generally not well cleaned and at the entrance we were asked to take off our shoes, so it is wise to have your own slippers. We had a few problems in the room, such as leaking water and dirty bed linen, which was changed after we contacted the owner through booking. I really know how hard it is to find adequate staff and probably repair workers, but you should definitely pay attention to those finesse. In the morning, the manager visited us with regard to our complaints and corrected the matter, he welcomed us to his accommodation and offered us coffee and breakfast, a really wonderful man. He took us around his village and really improved the impression of everything. The owner answered the messages and you can really ask him anything and you will get an answer. He apologized at the end and quickly responded to our complaints to correct what he could. I was thinking whether I should leave a comment, I didnt want at first because I don't like to give bad comments because someone's effort was invested in all this, but after all I decided to wrote because after a couple of stays in Egypt I realized that without comments there is obviously no way to fix it... everything I wrote is not something that can’t be ignored and nothing will happen to you, but for this price considering the standard here and everything else there should be improvements.
- Karla (8/5): Romantic hideaway on the Nile - Good transport from the airport to the boat jetty. This linked up perfectly with a boat waiting to take us to the accommodation. The manager himself met us at the boat and looked after us. This was reassuring at night time.
The rooms are small but modern and comfortable, however slightly flimsily built. We woke up to a beautiful location. Mahmud served a tasty fresh breakfast. In the morning we walked across Elephantine island to the public ferry jetty. The walk might look intimidating, but in fact is easy and safe even in the dark. You walk right through the village and people are friendly. The ferry is frequent and only costs 5 EP.
But if you prefer, the team at Anakob are very happy to take you to the East Bank in their own boat. This is a beautiful journey circling around the island, it is scenic, picturesque and particularly enjoyable early in the morning. We were even served tea on one of these early morning boat transfers.
For evening meals Anakob offers a take-away menu from a local restaurant. We didn’t try this. But we can wholeheartedly recommend the two restaurants beside the public ferry stop on Elephantine island. The first one and slightly smaller one, called Nubian Kitchen (or something like that), even sells beer and wine at reasonable prices. Both restaurants serve a tasty, well priced Nubian menu and offer great views over the Nile.
Lastly, Mahmud who watches over the boat, is a really nice, helpful person.
- Uzair (9/5): Super unique stay with a great host! - Great, unique stay in Aswan! Super friendly staff and host who are ever so helpful! I troubled the host a lot to help with information and book taxis and he was always available and helpful. I was charged 100 LE per trip to reach the boat or go back to shore, but no one informed me of this charge beforehand. So it was quite a surprise to find it on my bill. Also, 2 of the trips were shared with other guests but I was charged full price.
- Opherrichards (9/5): Quiet location on Elephantine island in the middle of the Nile - This was the best bed we had in Egypt. The wifi was good with airconditioned rooms. The room and rest of the boat appears to be modernly furnished.
Lots of communial space available to use inside and outside. We did have the boat to ourselves (the other three rooms were unoccupied). Helpful hosts.
Once at the boat it is a short walk to to the public ferry which costs 5LE per person which was very reasonable.
The 100LE per person breakfast was decent. No pricelist displayed for private boat services or breakfast.
The check-in boat was included but we were charged for a check-out boat (100LE) which we scrambled to pay in cash as it was unexpected at the time on an Island with very limited ATMs. We felt the check-out boat should have also been included as the alternative to the public ferry with a suitcase is very inconvenient up at hill and across unpaved tracks.
Despite there being a kitchen, was made clear that we could only use the kettle at the edge of the worktop.
The size of the rooms were on the small side, but this should be expected as you are on a boat.
All soaps appeared to be the same blue liquid.
- Simba (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nik (9/5): Was a nice stay, would go back. - interesting and unique place perhaps some guidance on food options for lunch dinner.
- Kristian (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful panorama view over the Nile river and the desert hills. Serene, calm and secluded pocket on elephant island close to the buzzing city center on the mainland. Very friendly, helpful and modest staff. Dependance on staff for supplies and getting around beyond the island.
- Jade (10/5): Amazing - Everything : the boat, the location, the staff…
If you want the perfect place to visit Aswan don’t hesitate go to Anakob ! Nothing
- Aminah (9/5): Superb -
