Guest Reviews

- Margaret (10/5): A magical stay in a Tuscan paradise - Years ago, we stayed on this same property in a different villa called The Loft, and had such an incredible time we had to return. The property is set on an olive grove amidst the most picturesque rolling hills, and is truly a magical spot.
The first time we came, we made the mistake of not renting a car, as we were only in Tuscany for a few days and were exclusively taking trains from place to place. Our hosts were so beyond generous and drove us in and out of Siena town and even back to the train station when we had to leave. I am not commenting on this as an expectation you should have of your stay (absolutely rent a car) but more as a testament to the hospitality of this family, and how committed they are to their guests.
Podere Vico Basso is beautifully decorated, spacious and complete with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The scenery alone will have you pinching yourself every morning, and there is a perfect view of distant Siena Town straight out the bedroom window if you know where to look at night. We checked in later than expected and Barbara generously supplied us with breakfast and coffee for the next morning, so we could enjoy our first night and morning hassle free. Our villa was cleaned and towels were replaced just a few days into our stay, which I was not expecting but was grateful for.
This property is the perfect base for a Tuscany road trip, with all the sights and towns within a 1-2h drive. Truly a magical experience. I have no complaints about our stay, as we knew exactly what to expect after visiting previously, but I will mention a few things that one should be aware of staying on a property like this outside of a town or city. The villa is fully upgraded inside, but it is an old house which all part of the charm. It's set about 20 mins outside of Siena which is perfect for day trips and dinners, but you absolutely need a car, and to be careful driving on the narrow winding roads at night. There is nowhere close by to walk for supplies, so it's important to buy what you need in town. Wifi can be a bit spotty, but that should be expected in such rural areas, and is a great excuse to disconnect and properly relax.
- Harry (10/5): Hidden gem in a magical location, can't wait to come back! - We loved Podere Vico Basso. It's situated on a sprawling farm/estate, and is effectively a very large 1st floor apartment, with an adjoining apartment in the same building. The ground floor of the building contains a shaded parking space (very welcome under the hot Tuscan sun) and workshops. The apartment is very tastefully furnished in a rustic style, with large comfortable sofas in the living spaces, and very comfortable beds. The outdoor space is a huge olive grove, with a private swimming pool and stunning views over the rolling countryside. It's quite magical! Our hostess Barbara couldn't have been warmer or more helpful, and she made our stay very special. Her list of the best restaurants, gelaterias, shopping and parking tips was incredibly valuable. Although the property is set in a very rural location, reached by driving a few kilometers on gravelled roads, it's very conveniently located for Siena. It's a 10 minute drive to the local Carrefour supermarket, and around 20 minutes to the main car park for the centre of Siena. The property is very special, though it would have been nice to have a terrace or balcony on the same level as the apartment to read a book or have a drink.
- Vnoutchkov (10/5): Perfect - What a stunning location! If you're seeking a peaceful hideaway to relax and make the most of your time, look no further. This hidden gem is a delightful discovery, tucked away from the commotion and clamor. The serene surroundings and natural beauty create the perfect setting for pure relaxation. It's a must-visit spot for those in need of a tranquil escape. -
