- KEITH (10/5): - Great onsens and food.

- Maris (9/5): Fabulous experience at a quaint onsen town - Very welcoming staff, very nice onsen with indoor and outdoor baths, beautiful and delicious dinner and breakfast. The hotel proposed a pick-up from the train station that was very kind - and helpful because I had all my luggage with me and it wasn't really long distance, but the road went a bit uphill. Otherwise the hotel is really well situated - close to historic temples and in the centre of the onsen town. The hotel is much bigger than expected, with 60+ rooms, a maze-like layout and many international tourists, so it doesn't really feel quite like a cozy little ryokan but a well functioning medium size hotel that is surprising for such a small town. Everything was fabulous.

- Michael (9/5): Great staff , lovely food , quiet rural location . - Wonderful welcoming staff , quiet village atmosphere. A little old and dated

- Peter (10/5): Great onsen experience! - Food was great, rooms were modern & spacious with comfortable beds, and the onsen was very enjoyable with both indoor and outdoor baths available. Staff was always very friendly and helpful.
- Hung Kean (10/5): Location was nice, staffs were friendly too - Love the hot spring they provided If there is a gathering place for us that would be nice
- Hung Kean (10/5): Love our stay there - Worth the price we paid as the rooms, services and location is good nothing
- Kenji (10/5): -
- Kin On (7/5): -

- Ting Kit (10/5): 🏘️

- Ben (9/5): Amazing traditional Japanese hotel - stay if you want to experience small town life in Japan - Lovely attention to detail. The collection and drop off from the station. The effort to create be a vegan dinner and breakfast. The friendliness of all staff. The onsen is amazing loved the outdoor areas. The town is very small recommend booking half board stay you’ll struggle find food in evenings. The room was very traditional. Had two wicker chairs on the floor. I personally struggled to sit in them had to just lie on the bed. Also the bathroom was small and airless def lets the room down.
- Shinei (10/5): Uematsuya is one of the oldest establishments in Bessho Onsen that has its own bathing facilities on the rooftop through - Spacious room and amazing dining experience.
- Fritz (3/5): Poor - they are know for the hot water and the bath is pretty good and also offers a private bath. only stayed for 1 night, the town is pretty dead and doesn't have much to offer. We didn't realize there are basically no restaurants open for dinner and you need to book dinner with the hotel in advance.
- Andrew (9/5): Relaxation - The food was excellent. I didn’t get a menu as others did although in Japanese. It was different from my first day. The WiFi was strong. There are indoor and outdoor baths. It’s an uphill hike to the ryokan.
- Andrew (10/5): Relaxing stay - It’s in a compact town far back from the city of Ueda. There is a feeling of serenity in the air possibly from the nearby temples which are easily accessible. The food is flavorful and satisfying. The baths are relaxing—in the early morning, you can see steam rising from the outdoor pool while the inside one has a nice view . There is a rest area near the baths where soothing music, reading matter, water and miso soup are available. When checking in, general procedures were touched upon with my name and room number on a printed form. Staff were friendly and knew my name and room. Shuttle service is available when you arrive by train. There is an incline up to the ryokan and to the temples. There are not many stores and restaurants here so you will need to catch the train or bus to Ueda if you cannot find what you want.
- Lam (10/5): Perfect ryokan for rest and respite. - The location and transport service to and from Besshoonsen Station facilitated arrival and departure. The dinners and breakfasts were memorable. Staff service was promoted and spot on. The Onsen was cosy and comes with two rest areas, one inside the bath and another outside. The one outside was equipped with a modern sitting area and guests were provided with a pot of special miso soup and a water dispenser. Here we were surrounded with mountains and woods. Nothing.
- Delia (10/5): Very pleasant. - The small town of Bessho Onsen is pleasant and restful. Hotel staff were very friendly and spoke English, which was appreciated. The food was delicious and the outdoor onsen very relaxing (if quite busy!), with a view of the wild wisteria growing on the hill from the outdoor bath. I particularly appreciated, as a solo traveller, the dining room's consideration in situating me at a table by the window, facing out over the view, where I could watch dusk swallow the hills. The peony garden at the temple below the shrine closest to the railway station was a delight: in full flower during my visit. I highly recommend visiting during May. My room was slightly noisy in the afternoon and early evening, opposite the lift and situated two doors away from a family with small children having room service from the small service area/kitchen opposite, with a lot of knocking and coming and going. My fault: I didn't think to ask for a quiet room on booking. However, the mild noise abated by 9pm, when I had a delightfully peaceful sleep. NB: Leave some time to work out the ticket machine at the electric railway station, which has a slightly complicated sequence!
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vivien (10/5): Will recommend it to everyone. Really nice stay 👍 - Service is exceptional. We had a very friendly staff who speaks fluent English helped us right from the moment we checked in. Food was delicious and fresh. Beds were very comfortable. We had an awesome stay! Nothing
- Marilyn (9/5): Superb -
- Ann (7/5): Overall wonderful authentic experience away from usual tourist destinations and upscale resorts. - Very clean, simple Japanese inn - good location in small hot spring village with wonderful hot spring baths indoor and outdoor. Superior room was very spacious. Good kaiseki dinner , substantial japanese breakfasts. Very much off the beaten tourist track - almost exclusively Japanese.
- Siew (9/5): Nice hotel and nice onsen - We booked as half board, the hotel provide us the dinner and breakfast.
Nice trying and taste great 😃.
The onsen is superb, we enjoy our stay here.
The hotel offering the pick up at Bessho Onsen station. All is good.
- Nina (10/5): Amazing stay with great food, very friendly staff and relaxing onsen - It was an amazing stay with great food, very friendly staff and relaxing onsen. The room was comfortable with a kotatsu and they laid out the futon at night. Also they provided a few local snacks, free drinks next to the reception in the morning and afternoon/evening and there was a free shuttle service to the train station. The staff were very kind and recommended some things to do.
- Vivienne (8/5): Very good -
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francesco (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful ryokan, friendly and helpful staff (if you need it, they will come and pick you up from the station for free). The Onsen is just perfect: two pools outside and one really hot inside, the public onsen is available from 15 pm until the next morning for free and there is the possibility to book the private pool. Dinner was delicious. Absolutely recommended.
- See (9/5): Love to return just to enjoy the stay in this ryokan/hotel. - Excellent service and we enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and breakfast as well as both the onsens. The room was spacious and clean and definitely exceeded expectation.
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, great room, they accomodated my request.
- Yoshie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kuang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wee (9/5): Great place to stay at Bessho Onsen - Place was clean and food was great. Will stay again
- Sari (10/5): Exceptional - The meals (also the vegetarian option) were outstanding, nice view from the baths.
- Patricia (9/5): Superb - The staff was very kind and did their best to accommodate the fact that I had broken my foot two weeks before coming. I also greatly appreciate that they contacted me a few days before to check the last details and that they picked me up at the train station. They were not accepting payment by credit card.
- Laurent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (10/5): Amazing staff at a beautiful and relaxing inn - My friend and I didn’t really know what to expect, but we quickly got in the rhythm of twice-daily baths, and dining in our yukatas (provided by the inn). Three nights was perfect-so relaxing.
The restaurant accommodated my request for vegetarian meals, and they were amazing.
- Ang (8/5): Very good - Clean, near to main attractions in the town. Friendly and attentive staff. Meals are great!
Onsen is fantastic Pillow too soft, noisy aircon
Insects in the room.
- Ruth (8/5): Pleasant stay in Uematsuya - Onsen was good.
We stayed in 2 twin tatami rooms. They were comfortable and clean. Although the tatami room was small, it had most things we needed. We love the hotel's attention to detail in terms of amenities.
All staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. Special mention goes to Mr Kano, who made a point to attend to us personally as he could communicate with us in English. We would suggest that a hairdryer be placed in the room too as 2 of our friends didn't use the onsen facilities.
- Michelle (7/5): Good - Staff were helpful and friendly. Great location. Room was a bit musty.
- Eunkyung (10/5): Excellent and wonderful - Clean and all staffs are so kind, food was excellent and walkable to visit all temples , rail station . None
- Bryan (7/5): Good - The onsen baths and the breakfast Room was a bit old and stuffy
- Yulia (8/5): Great breakfast, outdated facilities. - Breakfast was absolutely wonderful and beautiful . A lot of options. They especially prepare vegetarian meal for our family. Great onsen and lounge. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. The room was very old, partially damaged walls. Small bathroom. Booking promote it as 4 stars hotel and it wasn’t look like this. Very expensive for the facilities proposed.
- Arthur (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (10/5): Relaxing stay at a Ryokan with amazing food, nice onsen, and beautiful local sights. - Meals were great experience. Excellent choices for both breakfast and dinner.
Host made sure personal attention given to our requests.
In the direct environment of the ryokan were a few nice temples and pagoda.
