Guest Reviews
- Gwen (8/5): - Le dinner très bon. La baignoire spa sur le balcon
- Kiana (10/5): Heavenly stay, would come back in a heartbeat - Absolutely insane place. Ive never been to a more welcoming, luxurious place. So comfortable, amazing open air baths, yukatas, all toiletries & phenomenal view of the lake. The souvenir shop is fantastic, and the restaurant they have downstairs opposite the souvenir shop served some of the best food and drink we have had in Japan. Hands down the most incredible place, their breakfast was very traditional Japanese style too that we got included with our package. They have a large public onsen, karaoke room, library, terrace & kids room. Please, if you want a proper Japanese style stay in the most boujee way possible, do yourself a favour and book a room! Nothing !!!! Loved it so much!

- Khalid (8/5): Excellent idea and great customer service and good. The private onsen needs a little work but all in all a great experie - The experience was nice. The food was really good and the customer service was excellent. The private onsen was a little small. It needs to be a little bigger where you can fit like 4 people atleast. This was for one maybe 2 people which was sad.
- Lloyd (8/5): Enjoyed our stay. Dinner and breakfast was one of the best. - Not too much people. We could enjoy the property without suffering from over-tourism.
Staff very friendly and helpful. No tattoos in public baths.
- Magalotti (10/5): -

- Gregory (9/5): We had a good stay and one night worked well for us. - It had large traditional Ryokan rooms. The en-suite onsen was great. It was an upgrade that you need to pay for to get. The meals were large, traditional and local dishes. The location is very remote. The property is quite big and it took a bit to locate the correct dining area you were assigned. If you are going here for the Onsen good choice, if not, maybe choose a different location.
- Chanthaly (7/5): A lovely place to get away from it all - It was clean and spacious and totally smoke free. The day time front desk staff and dining room staff were very friendly and welcoming. The shuttle to and from the hotel were much appreciated. Loved the private tub on the balcony. The traditional Japanese breakfast was fresh and delicious and a welcome intro to traditional Japanese cuisine. The futons were a bit hard. The night time desk gentleman was very gruff. The door to the balcony kept slamming and I wish the tub was a bit bigger. The toilet room had a very musty smell. These were all little things that did not detract from our enjoyment of the property

- Jenna (10/5): - Amazing authentic food. Staff were excellent at explaining how and what to eat with each course. Luxury onsen with fantastic views for a great price. Quick connections from Kyoto and the hotel pick you up from the station. Look for the black mobile phone inside, at the side of a stand/poster as you exit through the turnstiles. Also had the honey shampoo and conditioner to use (highly recommend). Nothing, it was all great.
- Emma (10/5): -
- yoichi (8/5): -
- Eileen (9/5): -
- Lara Luana (8/5): - The facilities were good and well located. Dinner and breakfast were amazing, extremely fresh and delicious food. The shuttle service was amazing, always available to pick us up or take us to the nearest train station. The staff was very friendly and attentive We were expecting a little more from the room, the private bath was not greatly maintained
- Sathit (10/5): -
- HASSAN (10/5): -
- Jana (10/5): -
- James (10/5): - The food was exceptional, the staff were so helpful, very polite and assisted with every need. There was nothing i didn't like.
- indah shafira (9/5): The dinner is amazing we were served HALAL Omi Beef Wagyu every night! - I love the food both breakfast and dinner are toughtfully prepared. The staffs are very friendly and tried their best in speaking English. Love the private onsen in the room, my daughter still talk about this right now. One of the driver was quite rude. He was older (maybe the tencho or manager?) compare to the rest of staff who are mostly young and smile a lot. I was late for dinner we arrive at station at 7.50 pm while dinner served at 7pm. I was sorry we travelled with 1.5 yo baby with all toddler dramas and diaper changes and plus we took a wrong train.
When he picked us up he said "osoi" and later speak in english with very loud tone "VERY LATE FOR DINNER!" He clicked his tongue many times during the ride from station to hotel. And continue driving the car ROUGHLY and recklessly. I'm not exagerrating. We literally bump our shoulders many times whenever he took left or right turns. CRAYYYYZY and VERY RUDE!! But when we arrived to the hotel the rest of staffs were really nice. Even I said sorry to staff in restaurant she said "daijoubu" which is fine many times with warm smile.
- Denise (7/5): - They provided convenient pick up and drop off from/to the nearest train station. Service was good and all the staff very polite. The bath house experience was nice. We had a very filling dinner and breakfast at their in-house restaurant. There isn't anything else to do around the area except enjoy their facilities.
- Teruko (10/5): -
- Kristin (9/5): -
- martin creaner (10/5): The single best hotel experience I can recall - The facilities and gardens were truly outstanding. It was a unique location. The food was Michelin class both in terms of taste, service and presentation. nothing
- Natasha (10/5): Absolutely superb experience + best food on our Japan trip - EVERYTHING! Literally EVERYTHING (especially the food). This place was amazing. We had the family room with private open air bath. The view was absolutely amazing. The room was traditional tatami room but so spacious and comfortable with AC and heater that you can control yourself (unlike many hotels in Japan where you have no control of the temperature).
We booked the room with the meals for 2 adults and 1 child for dinner and breakfast. The meals were very delicious and substantial. We went to a Michelin restaurant that we like in Tokyo, but my husband and I both agree the dinning at Yuzanso place exceeded that in both presentation and taste.
There is a children's playroom that we enjoyed very much.
There is shuttle bus from the train station to the property. Nothing. All superb.
- Enrico (10/5): -
- SUK WAI (9/5): -
- miyata (10/5): -
- Olivea (10/5): outdoor private onsen = heaven - We enjoyed the private onsen in our room, it was very relaxing to soak while watching Biwa Lake and the city. The futons were very comfortable, I find they are better than western style mattress and beds. I failed to realise the hotel has a free shuttle bus you can summon so on our first night we trekked all the way from Ogoto-onsen station to the hotel uphill with our luggages. It's good cardio but I'd rather not do that again with luggages. The staff were very surprised we made it all the way on foot. Another bonus thing I liked, apart from how friendly and helpful the staff are, they are the only hotel so far to bring our luggage up to our room. Also the staff who drives the shuttle bus was waiting for us at the station at night without us calling, because he asked in the morning what time we will be back.
The breakfast was very fresh, unfortunately I don't think really traditional Japanese food is our cup of tea. We thought the same at a different hotel as well so keep in mind if you are eating at this hotel and traditional Japanese food is not your palate. They have a small souvenir store that will come in handy. Unfortunately we did not get to try out the public baths.
We would gladly visit this place again if we are in the area. I wish we could have stayed longer.

- Lucrezia (9/5): Amazing and relaxing experience - Room, onsen and food
- Meghan (10/5): - The view was stunning and the private onsen was so relaxing!
- Carolina (10/5): Wonderful stay with views over the lake - This is a beautiful hotel near Ogoto Onsen train station with a shuttle that you can call to take you to the hotel. Otherwise walking is fine too, 15m. We had a japanese-style room with futons, it was one of the best nights of sleep. There was also a private bath in the room with a wonderful view over the lake. Breakfast was pre-prepared, a lot of japanese-style small dishes from the local cuisine. There is also a gift shop near the reception for buying local products. Overall a great stay. Everything was perfect
- Cécile (10/5): -
- Sophie (7/5): - Great experience, felt very different to our other stays in Osaka and Tokyo. Staff were friendly despite a slight language barrier but they used Google translate which was helpful. Pyjamas were comfy. Private onsen was very clean and easy to use, a great experience. Location can be difficult. 20 mins walk from train station up hill, but they do offer a free shuttle bus. Not much else close to hotel area to see.
We Couldn't check out until 7.30 am so it meant we were late going to Kyoto for the day.
- NGUYEN (8/5): -
- Jia Ming (9/5): Excellent stay - Private onsen in the room with amazing view, spacious room and friendly staffs, food was great too No separate bathroom, have to shower beside the onsen with open view
- Siwat (8/5): - Wonderful service and food. One of the best ryokans I’ve ever stayed in the area. It’s a bit old in many places. We don’t mind it, but if not renovated, I think we might not comeback in case things break.
- Masayoshi (9/5): -
- Katie (10/5): Cool, traditional experience - This hotel was an incredible experience! From start to finish. First, you call for the shuttle via a cell phone from the train station lol. The staff are SO friendly, they were incredible! The breakfast was traditional and a great experience! The rooms were sooo cool! We booked a room with an open air bath. It also had a sunken table which was awesome! It was a great stay! Nothing to dislike but stuff to note, the breakfast is not created for the western palate, so be open minded and try everything! The open air bath has restricted times of use so keep that in mind. Also the shower’s outside lol so if you’re an everyday shower person, enjoy the fresh air. This hotel is not close to anything so make sure you get whatever you need before you call the shuttle!
- Kerna (10/5): - The ryokan had great services including a free shuttle bus to the station, a helpful staff which does it best to understand our needs and a muslim friendly menu for both breakfast and dinner.
Furthermore, the private onsen are really helpful. The halal option wasn't displayed on my booking so I had to pay a fee to modify the meal plan.
I think it was due to booking and not them.
- Li (9/5): Good - Private bath Sleeping on Tatami
- li (10/5): -
- HAMAD (7/5): - -The Room was traditional Japanese room and was very big and unique and the View from the room is very beautiful
-Having a Halal option for our food was very nice -The Food was traditional Japanese food which some would like but it didn’t suit our taste
- arnop (9/5): -
- Marcellino (7/5): -
- Yi Ling (10/5): Spectacular views and nourishing for the soul - The views were spectacular and the breakfast was great. The staff were also friendly, helpful and professional. Excellent place. Hard to locate via in-car GPS. We kept driving up the wrong slope. Would recommend drivers to enter via the turn at JR Ogotoonsen Station, to avoid getting lost at night.
- Diarra Halima (10/5): - Établissement très beau et luxueux. Personnel très gentil et a l'écoute.
- Lisa (9/5): Chill getaway if you have chill expectations - Relaxing getaway, private speaking tub in room a lovely way to speak at the end of a long travel day overlooking the small city and lake. Sunrise views, excellent breakfast, Japanese traditional style. Not modern amenities, but we didn't miss them.
- MEI-LIN (8/5): - Public Onsen is very nice! The 2 meals were good, but since we stayed 2 nights, if the 2nd breakfast could change to western tpye.
- mehmet celil (1/5): - Nothing Very tiny floor bed, very uncomfortable
- Lyudmila (10/5): -

- Marc (7/5): A calm, high-quality stay with a fantastic outdoor onsen. - The stay was nice and very quiet, perfect for relaxing. The outdoor onsen was definitely the highlight, clean, peaceful, and with a great atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were polite, a bit distant in a very respectful Japanese way.
The food wasn’t really to my taste, but that’s more personal preference, if you like fish-focused meals, you’d probably enjoy it more. Some floors were completely empty and dark, which gave it a slightly eerie feeling, though it also added a bit of unique charm.
- Martin (10/5): Private onsen with a great view and excellent food. - The food was great and the onsen felt great. The shuttle service made it easy to get there and back. The location is a bit remote, it takes a long time travelling by local trains.
- Heloisa Soares (10/5): Gorgeous place to relax in an onsen with view - The onsen in the balcony with a view for the lake was definitely the highest point. They also offer typical dinner and breakfast at the ryokan for a fee with a large variety of dishes that can be a great experience. The room was really big and comfortable and the one girl from the reception that could speak English was the sweetest helping us with everything. The futons are really thin. By the second day, I could feel my bones hurting for sleeping almost on the ground, but I guess that's also because we weren't used to them.
The onsen had a little leak, which caused us to keep the water running multiple times to keep the onsen filled, nothing too bothersome though.
- Lisle (9/5): - Everything was fantastic and a beautiful time well spent The bed was a little bit uncomfortable but that is because it was on the floor as a traditional futon.
