Guest Reviews
- David Lindsay (10/5): Lovely old house provides great B&B - Great breakfast. You can always tell the quality of a place by the thickness of its towels and toilet paper. Mainholm ticks all the boxes. Interesting history of a beautiful old house. Nothing

- Maria (10/5): Amazing place to stay, just different and inviting - Such an amazing place to stay it felt like being in a film set of DOWNTOWN ABBYS, Just Love its charm and history, cozying up near the fireplace and climbing into bed upstairs just felt like home. The owners were especially nice and helpful nil

- Ken (9/5): A delightful stay - Lovely old home with family atmosphere. Very comfortable although bathroom small and "tight".
Hosts great and offered to provide and evening meal (because of distance from town) which was going the extra mile. The dinner was very good and served in a fine dining style.
The whole experience was above what we had been expecting. Thank you Nothing
- Ulrika (9/5): Peaceful place. Felt like royalty. - Serene environment. 1910 mansion. Felt like royalty. A bit far from everything but if that’s what you want - GREAT!
- Letitia (10/5): It was exactly what we wanted and we got to enjoy it the way that worked best for us - The welcome

- Jason (10/5): - Great atmosphere, lovely furnishings, awesome host(s).

- Michael (10/5): A must go place - This is a very nicely restored house, we felt like aristocrates in the 19th century. The owners were super friendly and supportive, this place is a must go and worthwile a detour or staying an extra day.
- Jesse (10/5): Absolutely gorgeous! A slice of paradise. Such a beautiful peaceful place can’t wait to stay again next year - EVERYTHING! I don’t like that fact that it’s not my home! Other than that there was nothing to dislike!!
- Tara (10/5): - Absolutely loved the character of the home! The hosts Belinda and Verne were lovely and the location is perfect for a nice stop over near gore. Breakfast was stellar, beautifully set up and felt like a scene out of bridgerton! Would absolutely recommend this house for anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.
- Sharon (10/5): - Beautiful property and the owners were very welcoming. Would definitely return to stay again if we had a chance. It’s a long drive into town for dinner so be prepared for this. Would be amazing to pre- book and pay for a dinner at the house as part of the stay.

- Clemens (10/5): - Great hosts, beautiful and very pretty accommodation
- Keith (9/5): Very pleasant. - Breakfast was good, but the lack of a cooked option might disappoint some. We disliked nothing.
- Fiona (10/5): A little touch of luxury - Mainholm is beautiful and we were extremely comfortable, with every little detail thought out , down to the beautiful presentation of our breakfast. The best bit, however, was our hosts. Verne and Belinda made us feel so welcome and we very much enjoyed our conversations. This is an address we will always remember
- Christine (10/5): - Beautiful old home in the country

- Clem (10/5): We lived in Downton Abbey for the weekemd. - Verna and Belinda were lovely, hospitable hosts who welcomed us like family. Nothing was too much bother. The huge claw bath was a revelation. Very quiet and still. Still only a sjort distance from activities. Lighting in older houses is always pretty poor. Probably to protect interior decor etc.
- Ewan (10/5): A Grand Experience. Spend some days there, discover lots to see and do within a 45 min drive. - The Roxburgh Suite was excellent. Nothing
- Astrid (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - loved the character of the house , and the hosts are very welcoming and helpful. Your (booking .com) administration ! Our hosts were not expecting us as they had asked for no.bookings to be accepted for a two week period. Fortunately they had one room that could be readied easily and quickly - luckily !
- Debra (7/5): Lovely country B & B. - It is quite a ways out in the country. I actually enjoyed that part about it. The breakfast was fine and we enjoyed visiting with the owners Vern and Balinda.
- Allan (8/5): Loved it except for the night noise. - Breakfast was lovely and beautifully presented. Unfortunately the noise of what we believe was a water heater going on and off was disturbing and caused broken sleep.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - The history of the house, and the open kindness of the hosts. The round about way the GPS took us from Milord sounds.
- Brian (10/5): Happy Holiday - Welcome cup of tea. Comfortable beds. Wonderful place It was all lovely
- Hutchison (10/5): Fun, fabulous, fairytale - Beautiful spot. Stayed one night but wish I could stay longer. Breakfast was minimal. Like to see it fit the rest of the grandeur.

- Douglas (8/5): A slice of history well-presented for the modern traveller. - We appreciated the gorgeous setting of Mainholm and the house itself. We are likely to return.
- Madison (10/5): A peaceful, exclusive retreat with charming historic character and welcoming hosts. - We had a wonderful stay at this lovely historic homestead. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and took the time to give us a personal tour of the property, sharing its rich history and charm. The peaceful atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing getaway, and since we were the only guests, it felt like an exclusive experience. The views of the surrounding hills were breathtaking, and we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful breakfast each morning. The homestead struck a perfect balance between modern amenities—such as excellent Wi-Fi—and the preserved historic character, making our stay both comfortable and memorable. Highly recommend! The only downside was that the location is a bit remote, being a little farther from larger towns, though it is close to a smaller one. While the sense of exclusivity was a nice touch for us, I can see how it might feel too isolated for those who prefer being closer to more bustling areas.
- Marle (10/5): If you love beautiful old homes and great hosts you will find this excellent. - The breakfast was presented beautifully and we ate while enjoying the wonderful view
- Dieter (10/5): Beautiful historic homestead - Comfortable room in a beautiful historic house. Everything was perfect
- Cheree (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful 18th century property that you actually stay in. We had shared bathroom facilities, which has the biggest claw foot bath I've been in. Breakfast was set out so well I didn't want to touch it, felt like a queen:) Nothing
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Jenny (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mainholm, our hosts went above and beyond even providing dinner after a long day’s dri - Classic ambience, open fires and period furnishings. Beautiful rural setting featuring broad rural and mountain vistas Nothing
- Olive (10/5): Exceptional -
- David(nz) (9/5): Superb - Beautiful View Anoring fly
- Stewart (9/5): Superb - Very accommodating hosts, last-minute and they stepped up wonderful Nothing to report here
- Zach (9/5): Superb -
- Margaret (10/5): Thank you Verne and Belinda, it was worth the travel for an event in Gore. I just loved the over-all experience that Mai - From the moment I drove up to the property it was a stunning sight. The small winding drive through trees lead to a picturesque view of a grand old double story brick house. I was met by Verne the owner who helped carry my luggage up to the house where I was also greeted by his Partner Belinda. The lodge is stunning retaining much of its period grandeur in way of furnishings. My room and facilities were clean and very comfortable. The view from my room overlooked paddocks and hills, very refreshing to be surrounded by country charm. The hosts were welcoming and friendly ensuring I had everything I needed as well as checking to see what time I would like breakfast. It’s exactly what I was expecting after viewing it on line. Nothing negative to comment on.
