Guest Reviews
- ogrady (10/5): Perfect - Plenty of space. Near the town centre.
- Andy (10/5): York Xmas Market 2025 - Ideal location. House clean and tidy. We ate out so didn't use the kitchen but it seemed well equipped. Rooms very comfortable. House was very warm, we had to turn the thermostat down. Parking not too far away. Xmas tree was a nice touch. Was a wet few days so could've done with some hooks in the hall for coats to prevent dripping water everywhere else. First floor bedroom shower needed a bit of careful tweaking with the temperature dial to get it right. Just little things really that didn't take away from the trip and hasn't prevented me booking there again..
- Claire (10/5): - Fabulous house in a great position just round the back of the Minster, a short walk from all the sites, shops and city walls.
Really well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
- Tammy (6/5): Location was excellent so we overlooked its downfalls - Location The furniture in sitting room was very old and uncomfortable , the toilet seat in the main bedroom was loose . We tried sitting on the loveseat and the cushion wouldn’t stay in place just very worn .
- Catherine (9/5): - Great location, beautiful house.
- Jill (8/5): Lovely - Location, facilities & Charm
- Tracy (9/5): Great Choice - Beautiful house, lovely decor obviously a townhouse so lots of stairs. Plenty of space for our dog. We loved the outside area to sit in. Great location about 10mins walk to Shambles. Lovely coffee shops 2 mins away. The outside area could do with a bit weeding and clean down outside paint work. Just to make it even
more pleasant to sit in.
- Sophie (10/5): Would highly recommend and stay again - Gorgeous house, very spacious and amazing location
- Milly (9/5): Superb - Comfortable sofas and beds. Stylish decor. Location fantastic for the Minster and centre. No oven gloves. AGA slow to heat up.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - The location is brilliant, the house is beautifully decorated.
Had everything you need in the kitchen. Has steep stairs but expected in a town house. Parking is paid separately and a bit pricey however this is the same throughout York. If you want to stay in the centre then you should expect parking to not be included.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, well presented & cosy Clean and welcoming
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (9/5): Spent a fantastic Christmas vacation in York in the most idealic place to stay. Whether Christmas, Spring or Summer, thi - Beautiful property. A real home from home in a wonderful location. Nothing. Was perfect.
- Catherine (10/5): Loved the property and would recommend to family and friends - The property was really nice, it was clean and spacious The stairs are steep
- Deborah (8/5): Very good - Beautiful property in prime location, we loved the house. Well equipped spacious kitchen. Very clean and comfortable. A couple of things need attention to make this stay more comfortable…
Leather settee needs changing, you slide off the cushions when seated and looks a mess unless plumped up.
Need a couple of full length mirrors in bedrooms for us ladies to get ready. Drawers in the top front bedroom very lightweight and stiff to open, can’t place anything on the top due to how wobbly. No drawers or rail whatsoever in the top back bedroom.
Was cold in the basement/kitchen, heating did not come on in that room.
Would have nice to have some logs supplied so we could have made use of the log burner. Last place I stayed in this was supplied.
Unsure of how you would escape a fire if trapped in basement. Has a window that leads out but you would be trapped under the glass ceiling, how would you get out of this ? Is the glass breakable or does it lift off ? Not mentioned in the fire escape plan.
Garden could be made much more inviting, looks sad and neglected.
- Michelle (8/5): Very enjoyable, would definitely recommend - Great location, great kitchen fully equipped with everything we needed, comfy beds, linen and towels good quality All the stairs! And the leather sofa needs replacing
- Wayne (9/5): Superb - Clean, comfortable, location , facilities in the house.
- Phillip (9/5): Beautiful house in an excellent location - would definitely stay again! - Excellent location and dog friendly - lovely house with period features Door to garden very stiff - quite slippy to get outside we purchased our own door mat to prevent an accident.
AGA cooker took a long time to heat up
No dishwasher tablets provided
- Lyndsay (9/5): Perfect play to stay for a lovely break - Stunning property & perfect location Leather couch needs replacing
- Collette (9/5): Excellent property in excellent location. - Plenty of room in the property. Comfortable, clean and excellent location. We loved the property only thing I could say was garden/yard could be more inviting.
- Judson (8/5): Fantastic location, lovely house, but needs a few extras. - House was in a great location, facilities good. No welcome pack, only one large bathroom, the other was very small. No water pressure on arrival meaning no hot water.
- Tony (8/5): v good -
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (9/5): Perfect location ! Beautiful house for 3 couples ! - Location Perfect!
Beautiful house
Loved the Aga - I have an oil one so was interesting to use an electric one ! Great! Outside area didn’t get the sun but not really a problem ! Cold in basement kitchen as heater did not work !
House had everything you needed but I wrongly assumed there would be a hairdryer! I l know for next time !
- Rachel (8/5): Very good -
- Page (9/5): Superb - Central location and lovely facilities Couldnt Work Central heating, for female members of party
- Erica (10/5): Gorgeous house within York Minster -
- Rebecca (10/5): Very comfortable stay with easy access to all York has to offer. - Location is excellent. Very comfortable. Would like to return for longer to make full use of what the house had to offer. Parking is not straightforward. This was expected given the excellent location of the house. We used the NCP by the station. It was a bit of a walk but half the price of local car parks. Fine to do this in good weather.
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heidi (5/5): Disappointing - Great location, stayed in the property next door last year and know the area well. The house needs a thorough clean. Surface areas looked OK on arrival but it became obvious a deep clean is necessary in this property. Massive furballs under the sofas in the living room and the shower in the master bathroom was not draining properly. This was due to a massive build up of hair in the drain which had obviously not been dealt with in some time. We also had to contact Wheelwrights (the vendor) when the toilet in the master bathroom stopped flushing half way through our stay. A plumber had to be on site 2 days in a row to fix the toilet. To top our stay off there is also construction work being carried out in the building parallel with ogleforth. This involved being woken early Monday to Friday with all the noise associated with building and construction work. This should definitely have been highlighted in the description of this property as it is apparent this work has been going on for some time. As far as we are concerned this was a advertised as a premium property with a premium price tag and unfortunately it fell short. We have stayed in numerous properties in York over the years, this one should have been much better than it was. Lastly, the property could definitely benefit from extra window coverings such as blinds. The windows only have floor to ceiling curtains which actually required to be closed unless you want the builders being able to see directly in to the bedrooms when your in them. The small cloakroom toilet on the ground floor had no window covering at all and this means the properties behind ogleforth can see in the window when you are using the loo. These things all need addressed to make this property worthy of the price being charged.
- Tania (9/5): Excellent - Location was excellent, home was fabulously equipped, clean and tidy. Excellent and helpful communication for the mangers. Price was in the higher range however, you pay for convenience and for our family this property was worth it.
- Elaine (9/5): Absolutely perfect, location and house were spot on - Location was perfect, so handy for everything Waste bins in each room, comfier couch too deep and a table in living room instead of other couch. Welcome pack could have maybe salt, pepper, cooking oil, wee biscuit
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, all comforts and equipment provided. Very central. Perfect for us. Children in their 20's. Needing to cook breakfast, iron outfits, and walk to the wedding in 4 minutes. Stairs are v steep. Not a place for physically challenged or small children.
- Mary (9/5): Superb -
- Bev (10/5): 19 Ogleforth is a special property, excellent value for money, highly recommend it - Chosen for a special birthday weekend (ages 14 - 60), Ogleforth was perfect. It is a stylish period property, comfortable, architecturally interesting, a bit quirky in parts, well appointed and within sight of the walls and Minster (literally 1 minute around the cobbled-stoned corner). Beds were gorgeous. Whole house is warm, welcoming and scrupulously clean. Showers/bath & towels are excellent and there is copious storage. York was busy so we had trouble booking a restaurant for 6 but Ogleforth is so lovely we were more than happy with a take away and a film. Key-box gives easy access and flexibility. Agents (Wheelwrights) are extremely accommodating and generous with complimentary items, nothing seems too much trouble. Weather wasn't good enough but the outdoor space was sufficient and attractive. There is no parking however we didn't see this as a negative. Monk Bar car park is less than 5 minutes away (£15 for 24hrs). When we re-visit we will use the train as the station is only 8min on foot. There was nothing to dislike about this property.
