Merci 🙏
- Lee & Marianna Colten (9/5): Very comfortable and homey - Very comfortable, homey, artsy, historic atmosphere. Host was super nice and sccomodating. She provided shuttle service for us 2 days in a row and took us to the store circle. Bed had heating blanket. No hot water for shower.

Gracias Nada
- Claire (5/5): Very disappointing. - Durrus is a great starting location for walk on the Sheep's head way The smell of dampness as soon as you open the main door.
The bathroom is freezing cold and the shower and toilet plumbing is temperamental.
In the bedroom: the walls are moldy and damp; there is an extension lead trailing on the floor from the door wall to the bed to connect an electric blanket so you have to remember this each time you go in. The lights above the bed are not working.
In the kitchen, the oven and the hob hadn't been cleaned and was full of fat residue. The toaster doesn't work.
The blinds at the tall windows are poorly made and one doesn't close fully. They are also hard to close and open.
The place is generally messy and not clean.
- Celina (10/5): The perfect winter getaway - Very cozy and unique, lovely decor, amazing surroundings. The toilet seemed to leak, but it wasn’t really a problem.
- Kayleigh (10/5): -
- Barry (8/5): Lovely stay and a nice treat with bread and local cheese - The location and amenities for our stay Nothing
- Deirbhile (10/5): Our stay was cosy, relaxed & peaceful. The old school house is a little piece of Irish heaven. Thank you Clare! - The interior style, the warm fire & cosy feel. Not to mention the location & lovely attentive host. Would 100% recommend! N/a
- Rachele (10/5): - I have just loved this place! We arrived late in the evening and we were welcomed with a basket of wine, bread and cheese. The owner was very nice and always ready to help, she gave us a lot of infos also on what to do and where to eat nearby. The house is superb, very spacious and very tastefully arranged . There was everything: from coffee, salt, tea to washing soap, bathsoap, shampoo, hairmask, and body cream. A lot of books all over the house. The garden around and the view to the stream and church was painting-like. Durrus is also a great spot to visit a lot of amenities around: maizen head, bantry town, a lot of beautiful gardens, glengariff and his little island, and lots more.
My only regret is the we stayed just for 3 nights! I had a problem with hot water in the shower, it kept swinging from cold to hot. But my husband didn't have the same problem, he was showering just fine.
- Julie (1/5): -
- Lynn (9/5): Beautiful old style cottage - Really quirky, rustic style house. It was originally an old school house. Living space was really large and kitchen facilities were great. The host left a fresh apple tart with cream and a bottle of wine on the table as a welcome gift. Double bed had an electric blanket and was really comfortable. Plenty of towels provided. Bathroom was a beautiful mix of old style and modern facilities. Pets were allowed which was why we chose this. Location is walking distance to local village and a great base for discovering surrounding areas of West Cork. Really enjoyable stay. Only minor issue was it was hard to regulate the temperature in the shower but we managed.
- sandra (9/5): - Campagna, charme e originalità. Consigliato per chi ha gusti non convenzionali. A noi è piaciuto tantissimo!
- Jana (10/5): - Sehr individuell eingerichtetes Haus.
- Catherine (8/5): -
- Brian (9/5): Superb - The old school building and surrounding environment. The welcome pack and the information prior to our stay.😃😃😃 Shower left standing water. Felt the host didn't pitch the old school enough as I thought we were staying in a granny flat so we were more than happy to stay in an old school.😊
- Linda (6/5): Could be amazing when finished. - Pretty location, very helpful and friendly neighbours. Interesting building which could be amazing once fully renovated. With no photos of the building or name/ description it wasnt easy to find. Thank goodness the Eircode was written on the wall.
Place had a damp smell and felt like it needed a good airing and deep clean. Once fully renovated It will be fantastic and I suggest details of its history as the old school would be of interest to guests.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - House is beautiful, so peaceful, cosy. It's an amazing base for exploring the area, which is stunning!!! Thanks so much!!!
- Veronica (8/5): Beautiful area and quiet - It was lovely to see bread and wine as a welcoming gift. The whole stay was just so relaxing and refreshing. Its location is ideal for touring around the different peninsulas. The pizzeria in Durrus the food was delicious, I highly recommend it. The Old Schoolhouse was very clean and I would go back again.
- Jane (9/5): The pros outweighed the cons… - We loved how unique the property was. The kitchen , living and dining room was fantastic with the high ceilings of the old school room. It feels like a work in progress- going the right way to be an exceptional get away Although the water was hot, we found the shower poor I didn’t wash my hair for instance.
I also found the bed a bit uncomfortable.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good -
- Theresa (8/5): Very good - The sitting room and kitchen areas were large and well equipped.. with that high ceiling it was historic but hard to heat.
The parking and general outdoor space was nice.. close to a sea walk yet very peaceful.
There were plenty of books to read and a few pubs and eateries within walking distance in Durrus. Even a pizzeria restaurant. Bantry is not far. The bathroom was very dark and directly off the bedroom, so fitting 4 people in there, despite the big floor area, would only suit a single family maybe with young children in cots or very sound sleepers...
The bed was comfy but the room was small and really cluttered with magazines, books and throws, making it feel a bit damp and dusty. A good declutter needed.
- Minnie (8/5): Peace and Tranquillity - Lovely place. Very quiet. Welcoming and homely.
- Carswell (10/5): Exceptional - The fire was so cozy, the house was lovely. It had all the comforts. N/A
- Paula (9/5): Great accomodation well located to discover the surroundings - Very lovely and original accommodation in an old school, cosy living room with a stove
- Paul (9/5): Very thoughtful hosts at this excellent location who left us welcome gifts on our arrival - Clean and very attractive property is a quiet location that was still walking distance to village A power shower in the bathroom would have been nice but not a major gripe
- Rienke (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (9/5): Exactly what I needed. - Lovely stay at Clare’s property - in a beautiful location and the property was so warm and cosy and relaxing. I’m definitely coming back
- Leona (9/5): Superb -
- Paula (5/5): Dusty and unfinished - The property felt unfinished and had plugs and leads everywhere. There was a lot of dust and cobwebs and the bathroom smelt really damp and musty. It made the bedroom smell unpleasant too. I picked up a water bottle to find it was covered in grease and the water they left for us to drink had green in the bottom. It was a shame that the garden was messy as well. The bathroom was really not nice and we did not want to use it. It's a shame because the property has great potential.
- Davros (9/5): Old Schoolhouse, down the lane... - The host was lovely, even left a fruit pie and bottle of vino, which were both appreciated...
And gave me a lift on leaving, due to my own family's inertia...
Everything seemed to work too!
- Enrico (9/5): Superb - Beautiful historical property with great atmosphere. Perfect for a cozy stay in West Cork.
- Mccarthy (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful rustic property. Spotless clean, all modcons with original vibes retained. Beautiful property with amazing views.
- Tracy (8/5): Lovey quirky accommodation - Lovely quirky accommodation Bathroom was a bit cold, shower was fine but bathroom was cold.
- Ciara (10/5): Exceptional - This was a perfect spot to explore West Cork, Clare made us feel very comfortable and welcome, even had the fire on before we arrived. For an older building it was very warm and cosy with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting West Cork.
- Vladimir (9/5): Superb - Location, Room were great, really tidy and clean, nice bed and shower, had everything we needed.
- Agata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Betsy (9/5): Superb - Amazing place, perfect for a getaway. Nil
- Breda (9/5): Superb -
- Gina (9/5): Very comfortable . - There was a lovely soda bread left for us on the table . The living room / kitchen was huge . Great space . Easy and plenty of parking space. There was no tv . No washing machine which would have been a downfall if we were staying longer. And the instruction leaflet could be a bit more detailed.
- Jackie (9/5): Superb - Wonderful art filled unique house. Great nature filled lication, central to lots of areas . Good walks beside river and sea. Close to Durrus, Bantry and Sheeps head. Great breakaway, among great surroundings, so that you return home recharged with good 'nature' energy. Hope to go back again.
- Carole (7/5): Good -
- Aisling (10/5): Cosy stay & thoughtful host - We absolutely loved our stay. The high ceilings and the excellent literature on every bookshelf made it seem very grand.. but the stove and the furniture and the decor was just so wonderfully cosy. The attention to detail was great and the kitchen is so well equipped. I especially loved the fact that there were recycling and composting facilities, big thumbs up there. It was the perfect spot for a NYE stay. Nothing!
- Jessica (9/5): Beautiful unexpected hidden gem in a stunning location - It’s a unique artistic space, so peaceful
- Gary (7/5): Good location to explore West Cork. - Character of the building was interesting.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - The rustic and bohemian feel in the apartment, the art work and trinkets, attention to detail, the books and vernacular furniture. Tastefully decorated and cosy, featuring authentic country living objects and features. We loved the tall windows, and how bright the open plan main room is, with a view on the trees. We liked everything about this little gem of a place, honestly.
- Aine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): quirky old artist house - comfortable stay with easy communication - Great big lounge & kitchen area, with a pull-out couch - which was very comfortable. The bedroom was moist and had some mold, and the shower was very weak, with only luke warm water. But the owner is getting this renovated for the new season, which will then make it a quirky artist house, with all the amenities one needs for a great stay.
- Hannah (10/5): Beautiful home with wonderful host. - Host was very accommodating when our flight was cancelled due to a storm and we arrived much later, reassured us that our route was clear to drive and left on the electric blanket for us - warm bed was so appreciated after a long drive in the middle of the night. Beautifully curated space and cosy bed. Clearer directions would have been helpful or maybe a picture of the outside of the property for easier locating in the dark! The shower also left some to be desired.
- Gráinne (9/5): Gorgeosu quaint cottage - Gorgeous cosy cottage to myself. Beautiful ambience with fire, facilities. Lovey lay out. Shower was cold but only a minor issue
- Emer (8/5): Very good - location is excellent
quirky building lovely atmosphere . warm and cosy
- Jackie (8/5): Very good -
- Jackie (8/5): Wonderful atmosphere in very intersting house. - House had really intersting features, art, curios, books. Beautiful scenery and wildlife around the area. Wonderful living room kitchen area with lots of natural light. Everything was fine for us.
- Fergus (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful historic old schoolhouse - Lovely historic schoolhouse located next door to the current Church of Ireland School which apparently replaced it as a school in 2007. Very like the national school I attended in the 1960s in Tipperary. The beautiful St. James Church of Ireland is just a few hundred metres away and well worth a visit. Great communications with the owner!
The accommodation is very well equipped with top quality cooking utensils including proper wine glasses and even lovely espresso cups and saucers which we used every day with my Staresso portable espresso maker.
It's a large open living room with high ceilings so it was so inviting that when we arrived the stove / fire was already lighting. Even more inviting was the complimentary apple tart which we had for tea as well as an excellent large organic yoghurt and bottle of wine. A lovely touch and much appreciated!
There are electric storage heaters throughout the building and the owner had kindly already put on the electric blanket before we arrived.
There is a key box at the front door and the access code was sent to us in advance. Ample on site parking and a few different seating areas outside the apartment if the weather is fine. Good sized fridge with freezer compartment and superb modern cooker with oven / grill.
Great location to explore the Sheep's Head Peninsula or the Mizen Peninsula. Dog friendly and our little Yorkshire terrier loved the place! Lighting in the bathroom could be a bit better but not a big deal.
- Paul (6/5): Could be much better - Location Half finnished accommodation
- Bradley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gini (6/5): Pleasant - Good customer service
Had lots of books and board games House is suitable for 2 people and it was really cold even at 17C outside . Shower is not that good. It’s a old house so keep that in your mind
- Aidan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (6/5): Pleasant -
- Wendy (7/5): Good - Unique accommodation in old school house with all you need for a stay.
- Sioban (10/5): Exceptional -
- Delphine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (9/5): Superb - It had a homely feel. Warm and welcoming There was.a.dampness in the bathroom
- Nora (8/5): Very good - Very cost - nice decor Shower abit temperamental
Garden could have been lovely
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Nata (5/5): Passable - The lack of accommodation was compensated by the very low price , under 100 eur/night. I made a reservation for three persons, however there was only one bed with linen, which barely managed to fit two people. The third person had to sleep on a normal sofa in livingroom with no bed linen, and no proper blanket.
When we arrived the house was musty so we opened all the windows and went on a three hour trip. when we returned, the stench was already weaker.
The drainage in the shower as it did not drain the water properly resulting in a standing water.
In addition the toilet flush tank took more than 5 minutes to fill, yet it was still far from the brim.
- Elaine (8/5): Very good -
- Jing (9/5): Superb - Quiet place with nice view. The host is also nice. Very good value. No complaints.
- Diana (5/5): Passable - nice, old house, good location house is for 2 persons, not 4.
- Brenda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (7/5): Good - Nice, quirky style accommodation. The living-room/ kitchen was open plan with a high ceiling and was a lovely space in which to relax. It had everything you would need to cook. Lots of books to read. There was no TV but we were ok with this. Good Wifi. The shower had low power. This house would probably be hard to heat and cold during the winter but it was fine for us in June. No need for turning on the electric blanket on the bed during the summer but might be nice for people staying during the winter.
- Gerrip (9/5): Superb - A beautiful and spacious country house equipped with anything you may need, very silent and with a comfortable bed. Nothing really. Just consider that the house is a bit cold (even if it is equipped with everything needed to heat it) and quite isolated, so even if we loved the countryside experience, you have to organise your dinner in advance.
- Elyse (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property, really cosy and great sized space. Location was wonderful and I had a very good sleep.
- Avril (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful little house. Claire was an excellent host. I would return again
- David (9/5): A great quirky place - do visit if you get the chance. - Great property at a very good price. Appreciated the nice touch of the Apple tart on arrival. Nice to have the electric blanket on a cold night. Great WiFi and I was able to teach my online lessons. Very quiet. Situated in a very scenic hamlet. Highly recommended. All was good.
- Monika (9/5): Superb - Lovely, comfortable place with character
- David (9/5): Beautiful house and location for one or two people, decor and house is amazing! - Beautiful restored house, rustic decor, so cosy and warm feeling. Location is superb, lovely views everywhere you look, photos don’t do the place justice! Nothing!
- Liz (9/5): Superb - It's an old national school. Loved the high ceilings and the old doors the way they were not painted over. All facilities were perfect. House was lovely and warm when we arrived and an electric blanket in the bed kept us nice and toasty. Overall we loved it The shower was a bit fiddly and spilled out onto the bathroom floor but nothing major. No TV but we didn't mind. There was a little radio which was perfect
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional -
