Guest Reviews
- Chris (8/5): A cosy Christmas retreat in a quiet location close what you need! - The location in East Cowes was excellent for our purposes; near to West Cowes and Newport where we have family and the Southampton ferry, which was literally two minutes drive away. It was also a very quiet location. The house was very clean, warm (it was a very cold week) and comfortable with a grassed area in the garden which our two whippets made good use of. The host had also provide a lovely Christmas tree, which was a very nice and unexpected touch!
The house is only 5 minutes walk from a large Waitrose and Co-op stores, which came in very handy.
The cost was more reasonable that West Cowes (and the Chain Ferry between the two was working fine) which, especially if you go in 'Cowes Week' is ridiculously expensive! The parking! This is a minor point and we appreciate the host can't really do anything about it, but possibly warn people. I think that as we were there over Christmas and it's an ordinary residential street, most people were at home most of the time, so there were lots of cars. Luckily we were well aware of the difficulties in parking generally on the island. We never got to park outside the house as despite there being an old / unused disabled parking bay outside there was always someone else in it! However, we did usually find a space somewhere on the road we could squeeze into. Good practice for your parallel parking!
- Stephanie (3/5): I would not recommend staying here - The property itself is fine, the pillows and bed aren’t great but the rest is as shown and it’s spacious but none of that matters as the neighbours are awful and ruined our stay. The next door neighbours were outside when we arrived drinking and arguing. An hour after arriving we had police knocking on the door, without affecting anyones privacy i will just say there is a terrible situation next door and we were warned there would be a lot of police presence and to call 999 immediately if we heard violence. That night a large group arrived and we could hear them through the walls.
The following morning we could just hear constant arguing from next door, at one point when taking my young son out to the car the group of friends arrived again and made some weird comments to me and were watching me. The police were around a lot, we could hear arguing and at one point someone banging on their door begging to be let in having just left jail.
We stayed here in the summer and reported more minor issues to the owner and from looking at previous reviews they are well aware of the situation and are still letting this property which I do not believe they should be doing.
The owner did offer us a refund on the first night however we could not find another property available and had no option to stay. I would have travelled home but we were on the island visiting a terminally ill relative so that was not an option.
I would not recommend staying here at all, it was not a nice time at all and we tried to stay out as much as possible.
- katie (5/5): - Really lovely house clean everything we needed, The neighbours making constant noise through the night. Last evening next door kicked off had to call the police.
- davy (8/5): A well presented holiday home, close to the town of East Cowes. A good place to use as a base. - I chose here because it had an enclosed garden and a washing machine. The rather loud neighbours and the cats!
Also parking was a bit tricky as there was no designated space for us to use.
The carpet was difficult to keep clean and the vacuum cleaner didn't do a good job.
- Stephanie (9/5): Lovely house for a stay - Nice spacious house. The garden was great for our toddler to run around, completely enclosed and safe with outdoor tables so we could eat out in the nice weather.
The kitchen has the basics you need and the house was nice and clean. The location was perfect for us and close to mother in law who we were visiting, and a short walk to East Cowes and the floating bridge across to Cowes. The one thing that does need to be upgraded are the pillows, they are quite thin and not comfortable. Other than that everything else was comfortable.
You could often hear the neighbours at night so I struggled a little as a light sleeper.
- David (8/5): It was very pleasant and enjoyable. - The house was very spacious with a decent sized garden. Facilities were very good. My daughter loved the bathroom! The only drawback is that there is no dedicated parking, only street parking and after a day out, we were very lucky, if we could park outside the house. We frequently had to park away from the property, further down the road. One day we had to park half a mile away because there was nowhere to park legally!
- Crow (9/5): Fantastic stay although car parking was a bit of a nightmare - The house was lovely, clean and comfortable. The additional extension/laundry room was an added bonus as gave us extra room for the dogs. There was everything you could need in the house and location was superb as it was just up the road from Osbourne house, within walking distance to the Lifeboat pub, which is a must do if you are in the area. It was a great base for going around the island and exploring. Parking was an absolute nightmare. The property advises there is a disabled space that can be used, but obviously the whole street knows this as it is never empty. People in the street don't seem to be able to park without using at least two spaces, so it means less cars can get in the street. There were many occasions where we had to drive around the block several times just to get anywhere close to the house.
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): Would rent again if available when I next come over . - Nice and clean, nicely decorated, clean towels and linen provided, good size garden but unable to use it as weather was poor. Close by to relative who lives on the island. N/A
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (9/5): Superb - Clean, comfy.good location Didn't realise bathroom (not sure if I missed this in the description)was downstairs, not particularly good when elderly parents need to get up in night!!!!
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Vanessa (9/5): Superb - Beautiful house, excellent facilities and location Parking was difficult
- Elizabeth (10/5): Cheap and convenient accommodation - I really liked the laundry facilities. The house was warm and comfortable. Great location, very close to bus stops and the ferry. Nothing to report
- Mini (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (8/5): exactly what we wanted. - location was central parking was a bit hit and miss
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Una (8/5): Very good -
- Davies (10/5): It was amazing and we were only sorry that we weren't staying longer - The property was immaculate. It was by far the best property we have stayed in whilst visiting the Isle of Wight
The outside area was beautiful and was a real bonus. It was well stocked and there was everything there you would need. The original Victorian features brought even more character to the property
The bath was lovely - again by far the most superior bathroom facilities we have seen
The only slight downside was that there was no toilet upstairs but we appreciate that this may have not been a possibility given the age and nature of the property - a lovely Victorian Terrace
The location was fab and there was a really nice pub within walking distance - overlooking the river - very envious of all the yachts and cruisers.
We will definitely be back! Thank you Anita Nothing!
- Natalie (8/5): Great house with lots of helpful/thoughtful touches - Great garden for the dogs and very close to the ferry and the shops Downstairs bathroom but not a big deal overall
- Doreen (9/5): Very nice lovely garden would definitely return - Lots of space very comfortable No upstairs toilet
The vacuum cleaner could do with an air freshener as it had a very strong smell of wet dogs
- James (8/5): Hit the spot for what we needed. - Location was close to ferry port in East Cowes, great facilities that would support a longer stay including a very spacious utility room. Comfortable furnishings. Local corner shop nearby open till 10pm. Parking was literally the only issue. Was only able to park outside the property on arrival, but later in the evenings had to park by the nearby football field. The walk wasn’t far and you could easily drop off and unload.
- Russell (9/5): Superb - Garden including outdoor chairs and table. No upstairs loo
- Ross (8/5): Very good - House was clean and well equipped Parking was bad took a while to find information about heating, etc.No body gave us the pin for key safe I had to phone up.
- Stephen (10/5): Amazing would highly recommend - Feel very homely warm and comfortable lovely back garden None
- Laurence (7/5): Resonable ok -
- Jackie (7/5): We had a good holiday even though the bed was uncomfortable. - The property was ideally situated and had plenty of room. It was very clean and tidy with a lovely garden. There was no problem with parking and the next door neighbour was very polite, asking if I didn't mind him cutting his lawn as it would be slighty noisy. I'm afraid that the main bedroom bed needs a new mattress as it was very uncomfortable. It could also be a bit noisy due to the next door neighbour having their TV on late into the night and lots of cars late at night. As it was very hot a fan would have been helpful as we had to have the windows open, hence the noise. We had to buy everything as there was absolutely
nothing even condiments.
- Abdul (8/5): Very good - Change Mattress in the master bedroom
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was clean and comfortable
- Nigel (9/5): Very pleased - Was a very good location for us.
- Kimchi (9/5): Good location and the house is very clean. - The house was very clean and close to the shops and restaurants. We had a good time there. Sometimes, it's difficult to find parking near the house. But it's not a problem.
- Laura (8/5): A lovely base to explore the Isle of Wight - We had a lovely stay in East Cowes, the location was very convenient, the house was clean and functional. It was especially lovely to enjoy the garden. Nothing!
- Syed (8/5): Very good -
