Guest Reviews
- Véronique (8/5): - Très belle vue
Chambre assez confortable
Petit dejeuner correcte
- martin (9/5): - The view ,was fantastic and the staff very friendly The covers on the bed were very heavy but you knewed then to keep warm
- Artaza (10/5): HERMOSA - TODO FUE EXCELENTE
- Pablo (9/5): Great place, amazing location and views! - Location and views are awesome. The breakfast is also very good. Bed is comfy. The shower was not great. It was warm but without much water pressure. Hard to take a bath in the cold.
- Daiana Radulescu (10/5): - The chairs outside (chez long) to watch the sky at night! The Milky Way was visible, with the naked eye. Like in the movies.
Also die Bezahlung...
- Clare (10/5): Beautiful views, beautiful rooms and beautiful people. - This is my second stay at Utasawa. I loved everything about it last time and this time is no different. The rooms are fabulous with the most incredible views. They are beautifully finished and very spacious and comfortable but the best thing about Utasawa is the owner and her family. They can’t do enough for you and are always so friendly and accommodating. Nothing
- Rachele (9/5): -
- Maria Daniela (10/5): -
- Joanna (9/5): A stunning location on a beautiful island - Beautiful room with a gorgeous view of the lake and snowcapped mountains. Really lovely and helpful hosts who helped us arrange a boat to the end of the island so we could hike back. Fabulous breakfasts.
They also sorted out donkeys to bring our luggage up the steps to the lodge from the port. Unless you are super-human this absolutely necessary in this thin air. There are a lot of local cafes and restaurants, but you need to be prepared to walk further up the hill for these.
We stayed 3 nights which allowed us to relax and really enjoy this beautiful island. The dining area could be chilly but there were heaters in the rooms. The shower was a bit temperamental but most of the time we had hot showers.
You need to be prepared for the effects of the altitude.
- Dereck (10/5): Amazing Place In Heaven - Room was spacious and location beautiful. Views were amazing and breakfast very good. Staff was excellent They say they take credit card but the only option to pay was via cash, bank wire transfer or paypal.
- Donn (7/5): Bedroom with a view - Nice big window which made you experience the beautiful view at day time.
The room was big enough, mattress was firm , great for me !
The room was cold during the night, a heater could be used for 1 1/2 hour.
Unfortunately the sun did not shine at 6 pm anymore on this side of the island, which made the temperature drop considerably.
Also i found it unfortunately that i could not order and eat my dinner at 5 pm.
Only as from 7 pm if i understood her well. There is a good restaurant in the village that has good healthy food.
I did not like deepfry ,so they helped ne out with steamed fish with sauce, really excellent ! 😘😋 Restaurant Inti Jalanta, on the other hand they served me quinoa which had a bad taste and was spoiled 🤨.
Go for a walk to the North and back by boat or by foot again.
- Benpatient (9/5): Superb - Sonia and her family are really kind and lovely people. The accommodation was stunning. The location perfect. We loved our time here. It was cold as hell when we were there (because it was winter) so it would have been nice to have a better heater and maybe to have the fire lit in the restaurant. We would probably have sat in there buyng drinks all night every night! But this did not stop us loving our time at Utasawa, and I would definitely recommend staying here.
- Harvey (10/5): Great place to relax and enjoy the view - Beautiful view from the lodge, Sonia the owner was extremely welcoming and hospitable. The bed was very comfortable too and the shower was fairly hot. Breakfast was delicious too. Had a wonderful 2 nights on Isla del Sol and would love to return one day.
- Dayton (9/5): Superb - Shower was hot, but with little water
- Rohan (10/5): Wake Up to Sunrise! - If you’re not on a tight budget - this is definitely the place to stay in Isla del Sol!
The lodge itself is very cosy, clean and modern. We could tell how much care and attention has been put into its upkeep!
But the view from the lodge is phenomenal, overlooking lake Titicaca in such a way that you can watch sunrise from your bed!
Honestly a 10/10 experience - would highly recommend!
- Benjamin (10/5): Beautiful place! We would definitely come back! - The room was spacious, the bathroom was nice and we had a spectacular view over the lake. Breakfast was great and diverse as well. The staff were very friendly and helped us with explanations about the island.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved staying here. The lodge is owned and operated by a local family. They have built a great lodge that is really well taken care of. The view of the lake from the rooms and the property is absolutely stunning. We found time everyday at the property to just sit on the outside chairs to take in the view, read a bit and watch the people go by with their donkeys and produce from their land.
The family (Oscar, Sonia, Lis) were super friendly and helpful. They did a great job with breakfast. We loved that they also offered dinner which Sonia, the mother, makes herself. After taking long hikes around the island, we didn't have the energy to go out for dinner.
The guestroom is very well done and super well taken care of and clean. We stayed in a family room with a lake view which was very large. The shower had reasonable pressure and hot water. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of blankets and an electric heater for the chilly nights.
It is a very steep climb from the boat drop off point to the various lodges. The Utasawa lodge offers donkey service for getting your luggage up the mountain. I strongly suggest you take advantage of it. We thought it was a bargain, particularly after watching everyone with luggage struggling big time to make it up the mountain to the various lodges and hostals.
We were sad to leave after three nights. We highly recommend staying here and would definitely recommend to any of our friends if visiting the island.
- Selma (10/5): Amazing stay in Isla del Sol - Amazing property, the hosts were friendly. The best stay we had in Bolivia, the room has comfy beds, it was spotless and had a heater.
The views are splendid over Isla del Sol, we very much loved our stay.
The breakfast was amazing and we also ordered sandwiches to go before leaving Isla del Sol and they made them for us.
You can pay in USD/Euros/Bolivianos.
Highly recommended Nothing
- Wade (9/5): Gracias Sonia - Great location, ~30 minutes walk straight up from Yumani port and directly on the trail to the temple ruins with amazing views. Perhaps some of the nicest and newer buildings on the island. Basic but comfortable rooms/bed, electric radiator for some heat, lovely owner/host Sonia. Food as good as any on the island (simple, but delicious trucha!) The island accommodations are understandably a bit more rugged, and the shower (electric water heater attachment) was not the best. No complimentary drinking water available at the time, though they had bottles and other beverages for sale. A couple bugs in the room/bed. My partner noted some odd smell with some of the linens, thought I did not with mine.
- Natasa (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view, great breakfast and dinner, friendly staff
- Aurelio (10/5): Calm energy and amazing views - Excellent place to stay at Isla del Sol. Clean, comfortable, great service, and amazing views to the lake from the hotel and from our own room. If anything, I would recommend to improve the flow of hot water in the shower.
- Alex (2/5): Jan 2 2025 review - Very poor water pressure in shower
Space heater in the room was confusing and difficult to operate
There was a giant spider (thick and larger than a human hand) in the bathroom
They claimed breakfast was 7:30am, but no one was there until ~7:45
- Ye (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice view. Staff speaks some English and provides help finding private boat and tour.
- Georgina (10/5): Exceptional stay, delicious food & breathtaking views. Highly recommend - Exceptional guest house with delicious food and breathtaking views: highly recommended. Very comfortable bed in a charming room. Get away from the busy, polluted lakeside towns and visit Isla del Sol. One of the most wonderful and unique experiences I’ve eve had. Thank you Utasawa. We wanted to stay longer.
- Jennifer (10/5): Amazing! - Amazing view of the lake. Spacious room with patio to relax and enjoy the view. Lovely restaurant with other options nearby if needed. Regrettably, we were only on the island for one night as we would have loved to stay longer. What a lovely find, 100% recommend.
- Uko (10/5): Treated as kings and - Oscar was so nice to us. He made us a great meal. The trout was fantastic. In the morning also we got a great breakfast.
He treated us as kings.
The view was also fantastic.
Please ask Oscar to organize the mulls for your coffins. It is quite a walk to all the hotels. Utasawa is quit near compared to other hotels.
- Austin (9/5): A Relaxing Stay on Isle de Sol - Sonia & Oscar were so welcoming and made sure to make us feel at home. We had some trouble getting to Isle de Sol due to protests in Peru, and Sonia kept in contact the entire day to check in. When we finally got to the island after a much longer travel day than expected, Sonia got us hot tea and immediately showed us to our room so we could relax. The bed is the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in all of South America. And the view from the room was unreal. The island is so peaceful and relaxing, this was a great place to sit back and enjoy the natural beauty of Isle de Sol. Thank you Sonia & Oscar for everything- I hope we can be back soon! Be prepared for a climb up the hotel. We were acclimatized in Cusco for a month, and the steps still kicked our butt. If you have the option, seeking assistance with luggage at the bottom would be helpful.
- Tracy (9/5): Idyllic, peaceful - The amazing views out over the lake, restaurant on site for included breakfast and other simple delicious meals. Sonya the host was lovely. The shower wasn’t great but this could be due to location and water supply in the area so was not unexpected nor did it dampen the stay at this beautiful spot.
- Rafael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lavender (10/5): Recommend and will stay here again - The owner Sonia is fantastic! She was very helpful and caring, helped me booked a boat to Isla de la Luna. The location of the hotel is up on the hills with great views! And at night, it is great to do star gazing and the Milky Way is just right above when looking up! And it is great place to watch sunrise! Good Wi-Fi and good breakfast! Not much. It is tiring to climb up the mountain with heavy luggage but it is so worthy once you see the great view and the Milky Way - staying at the bottom of the mountain might not give you the good view of the night sky.
- Aurélie (9/5): Amazing view on the lake Titicaca - - The kindness of the host, she was very welcoming.
- The great view on the lake Titicaca from the room. Amazing sunrise on the lake Titicaca, I recommend to wake up early to see the sunrise.
- Warm water and heating in the room.
- Good and generous breakfast.
- Good restaurant. Everything was perfect !
- Ilaria (9/5): Superb - The rooms were cozy, with a heater and hot water in the shower. Sonia was extremely kind, the food she prepared was very good and in big portions. The view from the rooms is amazing and you can hear just the noises from the animals around. Consider staying at least two nights to completely experience the beautiful nature of Isla del Sol! Nothing
- Charlotte (10/5): A beautiful lodgings with the best views on the island! - Absolutely lovely lodgings set in a beautiful hillside location, just a sort walk from the dock! Stunning views of the sunrise from the huge windows in the bedroom which somehow provide complete privacy from any other guests. Gorgeous decorated bedrooms with local crafts. Lovely hot showers.
The staff are very friendly and give excellent recommendations for local activities and food. Nothing!
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Clare (10/5): I didn’t want to leave. - Sulma and Sonja were delightful, nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with kindness and a beautiful smile. The location is amazing with views across lake Titikaka to the Bolivian mountains. My room was spacious, clean and very comfortable and the whole experience will be one I remember with fondness for a very long time. Nothing
- Timothy (9/5): Great, well-located choice - Easy to find, Utasawa is a clean and quiet place. Every room has great views. The staff are very friendly and responsive, and the included breakfast was substantial. Getting hot water in the shower was a challenge.
- Valerie (8/5): Utusawa was the perfect stay, not super far up the mountain, views were the best on the island. - The view from our cabin was exceptional, we could see the snow topped Andes on the other side of Lake Titicaca. It was so cool seeing the donkeys and alpacas walking the trail in front. I loved the donkey service provided by Utusawa to tote our bags to up the trail to the hotel, there's absolutely no way I could have done that myself. Sonia is an excellent host and made sure we knew the most important things to see and do, and told us the REAL distances from the hotel. I couldn't figure out the shower on the first night, then Sonia explained it to me the next day. (Make sure you ask how to use the shower before you head to your room.) The rooms are a little chilly, but in Bolivia, they all are, so pack lots of warm clothes and layers. We had a small electric space heater to warm the room, and the blankets were nice and heavy, so we had a pretty good sleep.
This island is not easy if you are not in great shape, it's all stone stairs and uneven donkey trails which is tough on the knees, and the altitude takes your breath away. It was a humbling experience for me, glad I brought my walking poles. The sun is super strong in the early day, so lather on the sunscreen, our lips are still burnt 5 days later!
- Sandra (10/5): Paradise on earth - Oh it is enchanting ! To say that this island is paradise is an understatement but this hotel makes it even more of a haven.
Contrary to most places that have a sun deck or a garden, here, you get your own private bungalow with private terrace and lounge chairs plus 2 gardens, and being high up on the hill, the views are stunning.
The room is very spacious, with a super comfy bed and a living room area with 2 huge windows overlooking the lake and Illampu( which you also see from the bed).
The bathroom is sparkling clean and large.
There’s a heater that works so you sleep very well.
Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, as is dinner. We stayed 2 nights, wishing we had stayed longer.
But the very best of all is Sonia and her children who are so nice and welcoming and will do anything possible to make you happy.
They arranged for donkeys to carry our luggage, I recommend you do;)
Really really can’t recommend this hotel enough.
- Shayla (9/5): Superb -
- Franziska (9/5): Great views of the lake in comfortable and great rooms‘ - Great view of the lake and port area south of the island! Room very clean and comfortable including a portable heater for colder nights. Great service and support from the owners :) and included free breakfast was a great variety and size of portion. n/a
Only pointing out that it requires approximately 20 minutes walking uphill which can be challenging with too much luggage. The owners offered to organize a donkey to carry luggage if required for a cheap price. It is recommended though to not being too much luggage.
- Beatrice (9/5): Waking up to the sunrise above the Andes from your window - View, position, kindness of the staff
- Marta (8/5): Very good -
- Alexandro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Romane (10/5): We highly recommend this place! - The lake’s view was fabulous. Sonia was a super host, very kind. She gave us all the tips we needed and was very helpful to organize our stay.
- Leo (10/5): Comfortable - Lake view, lake view, lake view None
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rafael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - amazing place. new, clean, cozy, everything is thought out to the smallest detail. Internet, hot shower, delicious food, amazing breakfast with freshly squeezed juice. and most importantly, stunning views and hospitable hosts. highly recommend!
- Cira (10/5): Beyond our expectations. I will go back there without a doubt - The view was espectacular.
Señora Sonia and her husband were so welcoming and kind. Her dinner was so delicious and breakfast beyond expectations. You can see how much love they have put into the Hotel and Restaurant. One of the kindest hostess I have ever met in my life nothing. It was beyond perfect
- Sheri (9/5): Beautiful setting on the hill of Isla del Sol with great service, gorgeous views, yummy breakfast! - Breakfast was AMAZING!! Beautiful location on the Isla del Sol!! Just a farther up the hill (which we didn’t realize was so steep!) and being such high altitude for us sea level people, it was challenging to climb the stairs there. But once there, wonderful experience!! Beautiful room with a view!! The electric showerhead- didn’t maintain temperature evenly always. But better than other places we stayed!!
- Hannah (9/5): Wonderful break - We loved the views from the bedroom, it made for such a relaxing stay!
- C (10/5): Incredible view, kind owner. We couldn’t have been happier. - Beautiful hotel – our room had the most incredible view of the titicaca lake! It was spacious, cozy and clean and the owner of the hotel was exceptionally kind. She cooked a great dinner for us and the breakfast was rich and tasty. The path from the harbor to the hotel is very steep (that’s true for all hotels on the island), so it is better not to bring a big suitcase. We did – luckily you can pay for a donkey to carry up your luggage.
- Jenna (7/5): Beautiful place to stay in La Isla del Sol - Beautiful views, super kind and attentive staff, and a big delicious breakfast! It was cold in the room and the space heater barely worked/I never felt like the room warmed up. When taking a shower, I turned the knob to the “hot” side, but the water pressure became so low that the water nearly shut off and just a few droplets were coming out when the shower was set on hot.
- Emma (10/5): Gorgeous view and lovely stay - Sonia was so helpful, welcoming and friendly. She was patient with our lack of Spanish and provided a delicious, fresh breakfast each morning. The view from our window was spectacular! It was worth the climb up the steep Inca steps to get there. The location was perfect for coming off the boat and was a short walk to restaurants. The hostel also offers dinner if desired. Nothing
- Brian (6/5): Pleasant - A great view and a good breakfast.
Sonia allowed a late check out which avoided being left in the rain. VERY disappointed to be told that dinner was not available in the lodge. We were the only guests and so the lodge was VERY quiet. It also rained hard so it was a bit souless
- Roman (9/5): Superb - Great place that is very clean and big rooms. Great view as well for the sunrise. Also the host was very nice and a big good breakfast. Just be aware it is not on the main road so i missed the turn to the place a few times so make sure you take a map snapshot of the route to get there as you may or may not have mobile reception on the walk up to the place.
- Jeffrey (9/5): Wonderful place to stay on Isla del Sol. - The room had a wonderful view of Lake Titicaca. The breakfasts and other meals were very good. It is a very well run hotel.
- Fredrik (10/5): An excellent base from which to explore the Isla del Sol. - This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. It is beautifully located and staff is very nice. From the hotel it is easy to set out on walks, and Yumani itself is one of the prettiest villages in Bolivia. The hotel staff was also very helpful in arranging boat transport around the island and to Copacabana. We also had dinner at the hotel, which was very good both in culinary and value for money terms. It is obviously not the hotel's fault, but it is set rather high up from the harbour. This gives excellent views, but can be a relatively tiring for somebody who is not adapted to altitude. Nights are cold on the island and isolation of the rooms could be improved. But plenty of blankets are provided as well as a radiator.
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional - the best view ❤️🥹
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful room with a perfect view. So peaceful in the setting, quiet, clean and confortable. The staff were so helpful, allowing us to use the room later into the day. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, we also had trout lunch the next day and would recommend. Nice space to sit and enjoy the view both outside, from the room and the restaurant.
- Jem (9/5): Superb -
- Ana (10/5): We highly recommend staying at Utasawa. Sonya and her niece were excellent and made our stay there very pleasant. - Beautiful place. The view is well worth it. Well taken care of. The owners take excellent care of you. I liked it all.
- Shirley (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stop in Utasawa on Isla del Sol. Highly recommend this accommodation. - The location, view and overall provisions were ideal. Sonia the host was so kind and helpful. She made a beautiful breakfast. We did not expect a 30 minute uphill walk from the Southern-most port (with ALL our luggage), however we were relieved to find that this property is located at about half the elevation of the whole island settlement. After we dropped our bags, it was much easier to access the main village or Pueblo in a 5 minute walk (without bags!) The shower pressure wasn’t great and we did not have a hot shower on our first night of arriving. Considering the remote and rural location, this issue was understandable.
- Arlene (8/5): Would recommend for people going to isla del sol. Be wary of the stairs in yumani port. - Breakfast was nice (fresh orange juice, scrambled eggs, a choice of tea, and homemade bread with butter, strawberry jam, and cheese). Dinner was okay. The family was very accommodating and friendly. The hotel’s location is very close to the end of the stairs from yumani port. The view from the room was amazing! Hot water has very low pressure. Wifi was unstable.
- Tancredi (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible views and location. Perfect Place to disconnect. Super nice staff and good food. Shower was hot but you Need to play a bit with It to get It right. Nothing
- Katy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (9/5): Comfortable place with great views and helpful staff - Lovely retreat from which to explore Isla del Sol. Clean and comfortable and despite other comments I had no issue with the shower, and thought it was easy enough to use. Beautiful views from the rooms and terrace. Really helpful owner who will share her expertise to help you get the most out of your stay on the island. Very good food. A bit pricey compared to other places on the island - but might speak to the amenities. Wi-Fi intermittent but generally fine.
- Tatiana (8/5): Good hotel for summer months. - The rooms have nice view and clean. The location is great. The stuff is very welcoming and caring. The shower is a bit of a mess. Can get hot water but with such a low pressure that I was actually freezing while taking it. They provide the heater but it's so weak that the only way to stay in the room it's under the blanket.
- Zahra (10/5): Perfect - Amazing facilities, rooms and service
- Julie (10/5): Great lake view and dinner! - The view is amazing and and the hosts very charming. Very good food as well !
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay! Sonya was a wonderful host.
She gave us good advice and made us feel right at home. We saw an incredible sunrise from our bedroom window. The beds were comfortable and there was a small heater to help warm the room from the winter cold.
- Dmitry (5/5): Good location & cold nights - Location, great view, big, clean ,space rooms, helpful staff. No hot water at all, bed wi-fi , cold in the room after sunset .
Very hard way from the port to the hotel , located on the top of the hill.
- Aimee (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view! So clean! Responsive staff-a heater was in our room on arrival as requested, they let us know ahead of time we would need to pay in cash and that they accept USD, they gave us a late checkout without a fee. Delicious breakfast! Very small fee for a donkey to carry our bags back to the port. Not the fault of Utasawa, but poor communication from our PeruHop ferry--be sure to get off at Yumani port, not any other, or you will have to carry your bags the whole way up like we did!
- Morris (9/5): Superb -
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adelaide (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (10/5): very nice comfortable and great service, food, care. - stayed for 3 nights, hosts were very helpful friendly, very quick responses. great service! excellent breakfast included- eggs, toast, juice, coffee, tea, etc. gorgeous views! worth the climb up- only about half way to top. easy walk to more restaurants. all was wonderful! no complaints, excellent choice to stay here
- Christopher (10/5): From start to finish the family made our stay memorable. Would highly recommend Utasawa - Great breakfast, lovely helpful people, amazing views and restaurant on site. Shower could have been hotter
- Nazanin (9/5): Superb -
- Stephan (9/5): Superb - very friendly people! nice views
- Claus (10/5): Magnificent view from cosy room. - Our room had magnificent view on snowy mountains, with a sitting place close to the window. Breakfast was very good. WiFi was excellent!!
This is the same for any accommodation on the island: Be aware that you need to climb steep stairs from the harbour to the accommodation ( you get the view in turn); do therefore not take too much luggage, though the hotel arranges carrying luggage on request.

- Olga (9/5): Wonderful view - Amazing view over the lake and the mountains. Really woths the hike up. The host was very friendly and welcoming. Very quiet place with 20min walk to the Inca temple. Don't bring suitcases as the hotel is high on the hill and with an altitude its impossible to get it up yourself (at least for me), luckily there were local guys that help you do that for an extra tip.
Hot water in the shower was hard to get. Although the host explained how it works, it took me 10 min to actually figure out.

- Mailys (9/5): perfect choice for Yumani - Utasawa probably has the best location on the south of the island, as it’s only a 10min (steep) walk to any of the nice restaurants that have a view on sunset from the top of the hill, and from your bedroom by opening your curtains you get to observe sunrise directly from your bed. the views are stunning and it was incredible waking up to such a wonderful and peaceful place.
Sonia the host went above and beyond to arrange a boat for us to get to Yampupata (where we wanted to hike), and the breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Bolivia. only the shower was not up to expectations, both in water debit/pressure and temperature. too bad as the rest was perfect!
