Kitchen not very clean (though this was probably due to other guests). Not enough toilets for number of guests. Shower locks didn't work.

• Max (6/5): Pleasent stay - Great location. They let us check in very early which was great, big kitchen so easy to have food in, friendly staff. Thin mattresses, not the cleanest of facilities. Didn’t have spare lockers, didn’t provide towels.

• Zhenyu (2/5): Disgrace - The location and the price, honestly both are unbeatable. Yes it's cheap, but it doesn't mean it should be so neglected with care. The toilets are a disgrace, there are always some drops of p remain from previous guests and the smell is terrible, I held my breathe every time I'm there. Hostel staff ladies (at least one of them is in the reception, others live here long term) also sleep in female dorm, and they talk and giggle loudly and turn on the light after midnight and don't give a damn about other guests. Also very rude to my roommate. It feels like it's their territory and they do what they want. Overall the place is so not inviting, I regret I booked here to save a few dollars. I ended up staying in cafes late and come back just to sleep, because I knew I would be waken up by them. Also I rather use the toilet of the cafes... Then I actually spent more on drinks... I've stayed in hostels all over the world and rarely write such long bad reviews and it means something. If you would like to enjoy your stay in beautiful Almaty, book something else.

По - Хорошее место расположение Администратор при заселении была женщина, от которой ужасно веело перегаром. Чистота прям на 3 с натягом. Очень много иностранцев не очень чистоплотных.

• Min (1/5): 根本没入住，生平第一次神奇地遇到订了房却被安排住到另一家旅馆！ - 不可能满意 我们预订了两晚房间，并且预订时留言告知我们可能会很晚到达，请给我们保留房间。9月13日坐了一天的国际大巴，傍晚到达阿拉木图之后，打车时司机分享了网络流量，我们才能查看STAR在13日上午的留言，就是把我们换到了另一家旅馆（sun hostel）去入住，因为改变目的地，司机要多收1500坚戈车费，这都是STAR造成的，为此，我们非常气愤！更气愤的是预订STAR两晚的价格是13500坚戈，把我们安排住在价格低廉的sun hostel（住两晚只要10920坚戈）却要付出13500坚戈。

• Kat (4/5): Great location, but better options out there - Location was fantastic, lots of upscale restaurants around the area, money changer, cafes, supermarket, parks. Staff didn't speak much English but were helpful. There was a decent sized kitchen with filtered drinking tap water. It felt like a long-term rental housing type of place, where guests looked like they've lived there a while and their belongings were everywhere. Not sure if they overbooked, but the female staff brought in a mattress and slept on the floor on both nights. There were only 2 shared toilets and 1 female shower. The shower had one or two hooks and a chair in the small shower space itself. Room 2's door was closest to the kitchen so the smell of grease would come in. There was an air conditioner in the room but it wasn't functional (didn't really need it this time of year at night), but windows had to be opened and the only access to it was the person sleeping in the bunk by the window. And the curtain rods for the bed I had were hanging off the wall (someone probably yanked it out trying to climb up). All in all it was not a comfortable experience, but you get what you pay for. Moved to a more traveller friendly hostel diagonally across the park for a few more dollars a night.

• Daniela (1/5): Terribile! - La signora alla reception sembra essere l’unica ad avere un minimo di attenzione verso gli ospiti. Si sente un cattivo odore già entrando. E il livello di poca pulizia, sia nelle camere sia in cucina (un po’ ovunque) è superato solo dalla maleducazione del giovane uomo alla reception. In aggiunta, sempre lui, sebbene io abbia pagato 3 notti, dopo una notte ha fatto togliere i miei effetti personali dal mio letto (dandolo ad un’altra persona) perché pensava che dovessi fare check out… si è “confuso”. E sto ancora aspettando le sue scuse. L’ostello è effettivamente centrale ma è l’unica nota positiva. Per il resto non suggerirei questo posto neanche al mio peggior nemico.

The day I arrived the young guy at reception was very friendly, helpful and spoke English while the older lady at reception on the following day refused to speak any other language than Russian even refused to listen to my “GoogleTranslate” explanation and asked me to leave under the pretext that the hostel was sold out (a few hours earlier the younger colleague had confirmed that the female dorm was available for an extension) - but this can be simply a personal experience The majority of the guests are long-term residents and there is a lot of cooking going on As noted by other guests there are only two toilets and the light in one of them is not working If you manage to get along with the lady at reception and don’t mind “the rest” it is a very convenient choice
