- Quinn (7/5): - The grounds were beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We weren't allowed to use the public bath because we have tattoos. Plus whatever cleaner they used in the room made our allergies flare up pretty badly.
- DONALD (10/5): Amazing hotel and wonderful staff. - In the center of everything Elevator area carpet very stained

- Charles (10/5): - A marvelous Oasis in a scenic corner of Kyoto. I first saw the hotel as I was cycling around Kyoto, and modified my trip so that I could spend my last night near Kyoto here. Large western style room, but wonderful Zen like grounds and public spaces. I used the courtyard as a very quiet place to pack my bicycle in my bag for my next phase of travel.
The river and it's scenic hills are right next door, as are various temples and some really nice restaurants. I needed to take a taxi to get to the main station because I had a lot of bags, but that was well worth the cost as part of staying in this magical area of Kyoto.

- Donna (8/5): You must book this hotel due to the location!!!! - The property location was superb. It was located close to the train station, right at the river and near the bridge. The access to the bamboo forest was right around the corner, all the shopping was right there, the rickshaw (which I highly recommend) was next to the hotel. There were gardens, river walk, river boat ride options, monkey park and this really cool Buddha statue garden all within a short walking distance. The hotel staff was very accommodating.
Our garden view was gorgeous with mature maple trees with the fall colors. I can’t say enough about this property. The only complaint about the property was the smoke smell. On a couple days the lobby had major cigarette smell. I’m just sensitive to it. Other than that the property was amazing!!

- Nur (8/5): - Upon check in, the staff already setting the futon for us, thank you. The location is so near to Arashiyama attractions (Bamboo forest, Tenryuji Tample and Togetsukyo Bridge) by walking distance only. The staff provide a great service and we able to keep our luggage after check out as we went for a sightseeing. For Muslim traveler, the are Halal restaurant near the ryokan. We expect to get more spacious room for the amount that we paid. The room was too warm although there was an air conditioner as it may be functioning as heater. We unable to make the temperature lower and just switch it off. Other than that, everything else was great.
- Ilie-Cosmin (9/5): -
- Robertson (10/5): Absolutely loved it here, how ever the beds / pillows were a bit too firm for me - Everything about the building was gorgeous, the beautiful garden in the center of the building was stunning and matched perfectly with the surrounding areas. The location though crowded, was stunning. Being able to go for beautiful walks in nature while still being able to get food and do touristy things was very nice.

- KATY (8/5): Great location - Great location, large clean room, friendly & helpful staff, local breakfast great to try!
- Dinah (10/5): -
- Leung (7/5): -
- Burak (10/5): -
- Inna (7/5): Traditional hotel with a good value for money - Very good location, hot bath in hotel and helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant were good. It was a bit dusty and there was spider web on the ceiling. Even though there was air cleaner, it wasn’t helping with the dust.
- B CLAEYS (9/5): - Everything! Free Parking-Helpful Front Desk Staff-Public Bath and the amenities were all much appreciated
- Aaron (10/5): Older but excellent motel. Definitely recommend. - Staff were super-friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was bigger than the standard japanese motel and we had a gorgeous garden view. The onsen was clean and well maintained. The Ranzan is a stones throw from the river and the bamboo forest. Its also close to the monkey park and is about halfway between the 2 railway stations.
Can definitely recommend. The restaurant wasnt open at the time but the staff have a prepared list of local places to eat at. Minor detail.
- Viraj (9/5): - Ongsen

- Laura (10/5): - Todo

- Karen (6/5): Loved Arashiyama, but hotel offered very little when town closes around 430 - Location very good. Room okay. Hotel okay No washing machine. Town falls asleep before 430. Poor Air conditioning. Room smelled like BO
- Julie (10/5): Great place - Great location next to all the traditional sites. The beds are hard.
- Suhail (9/5): Superb - It's location is amazing as it's nearby Katsura river. We enjoyed using Arishiyama Tsusen North Boarding facility. It is nearby Bamboo walkway. Amazing Public Japanese restaurants are in the vicinity. We liked the atmosphere of the the Japanese style hotel. It was relaxing. We experienced the different way of taking our breakfast. Away from the taste which was not bad, we enjoyed the Japanese custom during the activity of serving the food. Nothingtosay.
- Jessica (10/5): Wonderful authentic experience - Friendly staff, delicious food, beautiful inside and out.
- Takashi (8/5): Very good -
- Lai (6/5): Pleasant -
- Thanapan (7/5): Good -
- Heikki (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, very clean and peaceful Ranzan. Temples, bamboo forest and monkey mountain in walking distance. Easy connections with metro and JR trains
- Ian (8/5): Great location. - Location atmosphere great.
- Kade (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sabina (10/5): Great place and wonderful facility. - Near the hotel there are beautiful temples, an art museum, a bamboo forest, a kimono forest, Japanese macaques in the forest, a street with souvenirs and delicious food.
- Yuliya (3/5): Poor - Location is great. Staff is friendly The hotel turned out to be very old. After I took a bath, the floor was flooded with water. The bed, and super thin pillow on it, were very uncomfortable, I slept poorly. The view was completely different from the picture
- Bill (10/5): Really enjoyed Kyoto and the Ranzan hotel was perfect. - Fantastic location! The Japanese breakfast was a bit challenging.
- Thitapa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thitapa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zefishe (9/5): Great location - The location is very close to Tugetsukyo Bridge and the Bamboo grove and a number of shrines in Arashiyama. That said, because of the location, the surrounding areas do get crowded very quickly during the mid-day through evening. However, it does give you the opportunity to visit the locations ahead of the crowd, assuming you're an early riser.
The half-board kaiseki dinner was good. Both breakfast and dinner are served in the attached restaurant. The front desk staff is very attentive. Dinner could be intimidating for a first-timer if you're not sure how to eat certain dishes (e.g. sukiyaki, tofu on soy sauce, etc). As they assume you know what to do. It's part of the experience though! For the price, the venue feels a little older with not much to do in the building. To find other relaxing things to do, you have to lean on the touristy locations close by. The room (101) didn't have a view by the window, so it wasn't as worth staying in the room. Finally, the sento/onsen had a simple design with nothing much to look at.
- Selene (6/5): Good for sleeping only. - Rooms are not what are shown. So expect smaller and less updated. I liked the location, the staff and it met the basic needs of a safe, space to sleep and explore the city. The room was very small for 2 people. Should only be for 1 person.
- Cynthia (9/5): Relaxing hotel mins walk from JR Nara - Great new hotel next to JR Nara. Daiwa Ryonet is one of the best for this type of hotel. Perfect for women travelers. Super clean with a great attention to the small details. Hot Springs on site make for a great way to relax after sightseeing.
- Bennett (4/5): very old and dusty hotel at a decent location - location was good. spider in room
no cold air conditioning had to ask for a fan
very old and dusty amenities
floor of the room was dusty and u had to wear the slippers provided.
for the price you can find a nicer room elsewhere
- Eugenia (6/5): Very expensive for what it is - The location was incredible, right by the Arashiyama bamboo forest and the Katsura River. The location was great, but the hotel itself was very expensive for what the rooms were like. They were old and outdated. And we know the high price is mostly due to the kaiseki dinner, but it was by far the most expensive hotel/dinner of our whole trip.
- Timothy (8/5): Pleasant stay in a great area! - Stayed in traditional ryokan room. Room was clean and comfortable. Hotel was located in a great spot and staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was well worn and needed new chairs.
- Leonardo (9/5): Superb -
- Brad (6/5): Enjoyable stay in a hotel with a great location but the property is very dated. - Location Dated
- Piero (10/5): great and relaxing stay - it's a very peaceful place, very comfortable and clean. all the staff was super kind. it's possible to use the public bath, that's super nice.
- Antony (3/5): Don't expect anything special except the nice location. - The location of the property was something that drew us to book this hotel. However we were incredibly disappointed by the room we received - by US standards it was basically a Motel 6 $35 dollar room. The room looked western there was no japanese design and the bathroom was simple and outdated. Incredibly there was no AC unit nor thermostat. Initially we were excited about the included breakfast and dinner however it was subpar experience. My feeling is this hotel caters to japanese locals and not foreigners.
- Thomas (9/5): Lovely building and excellent food - Excellent location, right by the river. Staff helped with local transport timetables and carried luggage to the rooms. Nice hot spring too. Fantastic food at dinner and breakfast. Karaoke rooms were available, although booked. The room felt a little small and cramped for the price we paid. The beds seemed a bit old too. It was a bit of a walk from the main train stations. Everything else was expected, so very little negative things to say.
