Guest Reviews
- Alexander (9/5): Loved the place and the host always helpful plenty of drying room for all the ski gear and close to the bus shuttle . - Large place kids loved the onsen and room was spacious Pillows were a bit small. But the host was very helpful and nice and dropped our luggage and ourselves to the bus station upon our departure

- phc219 (9/5): Great hospitality. Decent choice. Close to Karazawa lift. - The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Via booking.com messaging they respond very fast. During our stay I injured my leg while skiing, and the owner family took care of me and even moved me to a nearby room next to the lobby, so that I can move around more easily. The room is clean and the facilities are decent enough. It's very close to Nakao public onsen (like 3 min walk) and we just love our stay in Nozawa Onse (obviously except for the ski injury...). Would recommend Yamasanso! The hotel wifi was a bit weak at the top-floor corner room. Also, the hotel is located at the right side of the village, which is very close to the Karazawa lift but like 15-min walk from the town center. But it's very pleasant walking in the winding narrow roads of Nozawa and it doesn't bother us at all.

- Kira (10/5): Yamasanso was just absolutely wonderful. We were a little nervous after reading some reviews, but I’m really not sure wh - The staff was just absolutely exceptional, the location was great, and the rooms were comfortable. Honestly not much.

- Alex (10/5): -
- Mitchell (10/5): - The staff were very friendly No fridge in the room, seeing that the convenience store is the other side of the village there’s no where to store meals other than the community fridge

- Lilyskyx (10/5): Best traditional ski lodge in Nozawa - Yamasanso was hands down our favourite place we stayed in Japan over our one month ski trip. The futons were extremely comfortable and the onsens was a great way to relax after skiing all day. The highlight of our stay were the amazing staff/ owners. We had so many amazing chats and was given great advise by the owners, plus a beautiful home cooked dinner. We will absolutely be back next year.
Thank you for taking care of us, I hope you enjoy your cookies!
- Rebecca (10/5): Hard to leave - My stay at Yamasanso has been a wonderful experience. The best part about this accommodation is the service. The owners are friendly, polite, great for a laugh and go above and beyond to make sure their guests have a comfortable stay. I was travelling alone and initially booked for 5 nights and fell in love with Nozawa, so I have continued to extend my stay and they made this possible.
The Onsen downstairs is a huge perk, and a lot quieter than the public Onsens. The rooms are traditional Ryokan style and clean, comfortable and most importantly, the heaters work so well.
Location was also really convenient, only a short walk to town or up to Karasawa.
- Marc (10/5): Traditional Japan ryokan accommodation with its own onsen. Great service and friendly staff. Also only a couple of minut -

- Simon (8/5): - Staff went above and beyond Traditional Japanese experience
- Sabrina (10/5): Loved it! Great Japanese hospitality from an owner who cares - 6 of us had a very comfortable stay in the Japanese style rooms. The hotel has been around for a while but is well maintained and very cozy and warm. The highlight was the owner who looked after our family like we were part of the family. He didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak Japanese, but he is deft with his translator. He would great us when we arrived back at the lodge, and anticipated our needs. When members of our family got a tummy bug, he would send up fruit for us and made sure we were comfortable. He helped my mum contact a supermarket in IIYAMA to locate her misplaced debit card and one of his staff went to pick it up. He offered to make congee for her when she got sick and when we left, he offered for one of his staff to drive her and all our luggage to the bus stop. The location suited us, out of the bustle of the centre of town, but close to one of the lifts that gave easy access to the snowfields. It was also close to a couple of different shuttle bus stops. We all enjoyed the onsite onsen which was quiet - particularly compare to the public baths. There is also an amazing Japanese BBQ restaurant nearby run by the local butcher. Great place for wagyu and grated wasabi! Nothing, but if you are expecting all of the mod cons or are looking for a party, this might not be the place for you.

- Takehiro (9/5): Great value for money. - Location. About 10min easy walk to the central area of Nozawa Onsen unless snow storm hits. There are some great cafe and restaurants within a few mins walk as well. Hot bath was great after day of snow boarding. Nothing really. People expecting high end accommodation and top food service may be disappointed somewhat but for the rate per night we are very happy with everything.
- Nicholas (10/5): Comfortable - Great service. Very kind hosts. Super clean and efficient. Close to Karawasa base for a quick few round 2 afternoon runs before a nice hot onsen before winding down for the day. Nothing.
- boonhark (8/5): True Japanese ryokan experience - The host was fantastic and told us everything we needed to know. He took time to explain things in details and made us feel welcoming. Breakfast could have a bit more variety.
- owen (10/5): Yamasanso, fire festival. Great hotel and great festival - Everything about my stay Yamasanso was great. The host was very nice and helpful with every question I had, the onsen was great aswell was the perfect temperature and the fire festival was great aswell and short I had a great time and will be returning. Nothing was bad
- Kaufmann (10/5): - lovely traditional guesthose and a very nice host
- Julieta (10/5): The warmest people and the loveliest hotel - The people are so so so nice!! And the hotel is in a great location, close to the slopes, close to the center and with its own bath which was so comfortable. I loved the beds also, they were great.
But above all the kindness of the staff made us feel at home. The owner even took me to my next hotel (which was nearby) to avoid me the trouble of getting an Uber! Nothing
- Shari (9/5): -
- Anna (8/5): great place to stay and enjoy nozawa, excellent for families - lovely staff. warm rooms. great drying facilities for your snow gear and nice and close to the mountain. great option for families little old, but this is typical in japan
- Ziying (10/5): A highly recommended place for Nozawa Onsen Ski trip - We lived at this property last year and rebooked it for this ski season. It is very close to chair lift and also offers discounted ski tickets. The staffs were extremely friendly and gave us lots of tips for exploring the area! Breakfasts were nice as well! Internet was not very stable at our room but it was okay. We got our own travel roaming packages anyway.
- Claudia (9/5): Very comfortable - They were very thoughtful and adapted the breakfast for my boyfriend who is celiac and vegetarian!
- Asra (10/5): We had such a wonderful stay at Yamasanso Nozawa Onsen! The host was incredibly kind and thoughtful, always ready to hel - Everything Can’t find any
- Rayna (9/5): -
- David Harrison (8/5): Nice little place for a few days near the slopes. - Clean rooms, very short 5 minute walk to the lift, free parking. Breakfast was well-rounded and fueled us up for a day on the slopes. Enjoyed an evening in the small lounge by the fire. Staff and the owner were very friendly and helpful with lots of recommendations for dinner options. Reservation said shared bathroom, but we did have a private toilet/sink. The shower/onsen area was shared, but that is everywhere. Nothing we really didn't like, though small refrigerator in the room would have been nice.

- Peggy (10/5): Cozy, traditional and very welcoming - A wonderfully cozy, traditional Japanese hotel run by a really kind owner. I loved everything about my stay here. The hotel has an onsen which is perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. It also has a restaurant for guests and the food was so good! The tatami mat rooms are very clean and well presented. There's free green tea and cheap laundry facilities. The hotel is also in a great location - it take 2 mins to walk to a chairlift, a public onsen, or a great little Swiss bakery. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the owner went above and beyond to make me welcome. They don't speak English but it wasn't a problem at all - they use a translation app and this season they hired an English speaker to help with more complicated interactions. Thank you, and I'll hopefully see you next winter!
- Edward (10/5): -
- Kristyna (10/5): Will be back! - Excellent service by the owner. Different breakfast every day. Amazing spa. Nice traditional sleeping arrangements. 2 minutes to ski lift. Free tea and vending machines on premises. Owner went above to show everyone around. Very nice stay!
- Adrien (8/5): good value for money - very good location and onsen. Also free parking. Japanese style breakfast
- Amelia (8/5): - Location and onsen facilities. Room was spacious and clean Had no shower in room and was unable to find just a separate shower
- RAIN LEUNG (9/5): -

- Xiaoyue (9/5): 整体上非常满意,希望下次还来 - 老板很耐心很友善地与我们沟通,他的建议对我们的帮助很大。早餐也很好,温泉很舒服,设施也比较齐备。整体非常满意! 1,离车站大概要走10分钟左右,提着比较重的行李箱不太方便;
- Ginger (10/5): Exceptional service at a well run, clean, friendly, Japnese style hotel. - the hotel is simple and has everything you need, with minimal rooms which are warm and clean. It is very close to the bottom of a chairlift, an easy under 5 mins walk even in ski boots. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind. They use a translator voice thing which is accurate and very fast. There is a drying room and room to store skiis and snowboards It is about ten minutes walk from where most of the shops are, a little out of the way, at the bottom of the town.
- Gavin (9/5): -
- Patrick (7/5): Brilliant family - Nice staff, good
Onsen and beautiful breakfast Nothing
- Ziying (9/5): Very pleasant stay - Great location! It is only 5mins walk from Nakao bus station and 3mins walk to Karasawa ski area. The room was clean and cosy with great views of nearby mountain.
Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much for driving us to bus terminal on the day of leaving the village when it was snowing heavily. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay :) Payment is cash only, quite inconvenient nowadays given everything goes cashless
- Lalita (6/5): - The owner he’s very friendly. Even he can’t really speak English but he’s breaking barriers with google translate. Worked well while we there.
Can walk to main gondola about 30mins up hill. Or closer chairlift just couple mins Because I booked sharing shower. So we expected. Shower got shower blocks and sharing. But no nothing. You got little stools and sharing completely with others also same area with hot onsen. Basically. If you’re shy person. You know sitting in onsen see people shower right in front of you :) but people seems avoiding when someone in there and come back later when empty. But that’s real traditional.
Also shower time only from 18.00-22.00
You can’t shower in the morning for people sharing shower.
- Estefano (10/5): - The interior architecture and the spring water baths
- Silva (10/5): - The staff was amazing. They made you feel right at home.
