- Silvia (9/5): -
- Chidawanyika (7/5): We enjoyed our stay -
- Guest (4/5): Location is amazing and it ends there - The location Water system pressure very low in particular the shower.
The kitchen not stocked - no tea/coffee or sugar in the kitchen.
- Milton Takudzwa (7/5): - Views Accessibility
- Deborah (8/5): A wonderful place to stay if you love nature! - The charming, rustic cottage with stunning views was just perfect for our family. It’s surrounded by nature and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We did lovely walks to the Magic Tree and Chinamata Falls with Gordon, our guide. Can’t think of anything
- Kathleen (5/5): Beautiful Vumba - The location was great even though the roads to get there are shocking suggest a 4x4!
The fire place was very welcome on a cold evening.
Sunrise in the early morning was fabulous.
Thanks to Gavin for hiking with us to the nearby falls and doing a good job of taking photos for us. I upgraded my booking because we were told there was a washing machine which we had planned to use - there was no washing machine.
Booking.com says there is a microwave in the chalet - there was no microwave.
It also says there is a sauna (this was not important to us, but we certainly didn't see any sauna)
- Rita (7/5): Peaceful stay in Vumba - Spectacular setting with lovely walking. Comfortable bed. Adequately equipped for self-catering. Roger and Gordon were very helpful. The road getting there is not great. Lots of stairs to get to the unit. It was cold while we were there. The fireplace smoked and there was insufficient hotly water for showering, especially with lack of sunlight. The cottage needs some general maintenance and care. Maybe gas to heat the shower water?
- Rushwaya (8/5): Very good - Scenic quiet environment
- Answer (10/5): Exceptional - I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Madrugada. The lodge is tucked away in the beautiful Vumba mountains, offering stunning views, fresh air, and a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding.
The rooms were spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. We appreciated the little touches from cozy bedding to a well-maintained bathroom and thoughtful amenities.
If you’re planning to drive there, be aware that the access road is a bit rough a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. But once you arrive, it’s absolutely worth it.
Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a quiet retreat, or a base to explore Vumba’s natural beauty, Madrugada is a fantastic choice. We’ll definitely be back!
- Carl (10/5): Madrugada is an amazingly beautiful destination that I would recommend to anyone looking to visit Vumba. A special menti - The overview of the mountains from the terrace and the view of the beautiful Zimbabwean sunrise from the rooms
- Christabell (10/5): Our stay was great ,the cottage was amazing and the views are to die for 🫡. - The views were great , Wifi was not working at our cottage
- Silence (8/5): Very good - The place is nice
- Melody (9/5): Beautiful, refreshing and worth every penny - The place is beautiful, there is no breakfast offered, getting there is a hustle if you have a low clearance car .The staff is amazing and Roger is an amazing host
- Gabriel (9/5): Superb -
- Ruwana (7/5): Good - the supper
- Godfrey (9/5): Exceptionally good, loved it. - The location is exceptionally good. thumbs up Roger! The road to the premise needs maintainence else u use an offroad vehicle
- Barbara (7/5): The reception was very good. Was ok for the purpose - Breakfast not available
Location ok. A bit tucked in The stairs a bit steep. Not user friendly
- Patience (8/5): we had a really good time time there - The location is great and the experience amazing comfort of beds
- Priscilla (10/5): Beautiful views and very quiet - MUST VISIT , so many things to see, sekuru roger was very welcoming. no stress over insects or wild animals The kitchen needs a bit of up keep and up grade and the roads need grading
- Kristoffer (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutly loved my stay, amazing and super welcoming host who showed us around the area, and it has a wonderful location.
The view is amazing, one of the most beautiful sunrises I have had, overlooking the vumba mountains and some of the mountains in Mozambique.
Fast and reliable wifi brought by Starlink (40mb/s-200mb/s). Multiple solar pannels and batteries made sure there was no electricity issues or outages.
The outdoor area is beautiful, step outside the door and you can go on wonderful forrest walks or relax in a very well maintained huge yard.
Beautiful waterfalls and view points not far away.
one of the places that positivly surprises you when you arrive, as the photos doesnt do the place justice
- Nyoni (8/5): Living in the middle of nature - Scenery roads
- Kahari (7/5): Good - There was no hot water in the shower and no microwave in the kitchen Everything else
- Henning (1/5): Most disappointing!!! - The view was excellent. George helped us with luggage. All equipment in chalet very outdated and filthy. Place needs a proper clean up.
It is a very steep climb from the parking area to the chalet without proper stairs. For pensioners (over 70), it was most uncomfortable getting our luggage and eatables for the evening from the vehicle to the chalet. Solar system did not operate, had to shower and wash dishes in ice cold water.
- Tendai (7/5): Was soothing and refreshing. The area is so quiet and good for winding - The place offers a nice view and the guys there are so friendly. They must add more road posters. I loved the magic tree and the waterfalls. The place is difficult to reach more posters needed
- Mitchell (10/5): Gorgeous view in the Eastern Highlands - Incredible view! Roger was helpful to talk to about the area. Fireplace was an added nice touch! We enjoyed sitting on the porch and enjoying the birds and scenery. Looks into Mozambique! Road is bad, we had an SUV never had to kick it into 4x4 so that's not a requirement. Just slower going.
- Theunis (7/5): Good -
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Addlight (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (1/5): Bad - The owner didn’t have our booking on file though we were able to book online. There were no other chalets available. It was VERY inconvenient trying to find housing at the last minute as we had travelled a long way. I’m not sure why the owner lists online if he doesn’t manage the listing online. He was apologetic but it doesn’t make sense.
- Marco (7/5): Beautiful hidden away piece of paradise in between the Bvumba mountains. Stunning views calm & quiet - The location was amazing. Hidden away in between the Bvumba mountains. Gordon who works there was super friendly and helpful and went out of his way to help us carry our belonging up & down the hill to the cottage. Nice fireplace and great view from the veranda too. Some power issues whereby the power went on/off regularly in short intervals. The fridge didn't seem to work very well and not sure if the solar power was too weak to accommodate the appliances. The hot/cold taps of the shower difficult to regulate and maintain one temperature, as it alters between extremely hot and cold without turning the taps. We couldn't get the wifi password whilst there, as Gordon couldn't give it to us and we couldn't ask the owner whilst there as we didn't have any cellphone reception, but this wasn't a dealbreaker for us and still loved it there.
- Maarten (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harold (8/5): Very good -

- Zhanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bernard (7/5): Good stay over all - Location in the Forest Road there is tough, not very clean...
- Cipho (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (8/5): pleasant and comfortable stay - it’s away from noise , quiet and peaceful when it rains it’s difficult to access
- Ron (4/5): Amazing views but seriously over represented on booking.com - The views are Beautiful Rooms were dirty. Dead bugs, grimy sticky kitchen table. Pretty gross
No WiFi. No restaurant or breakfast.
- Tinashe (7/5): Good - Nature, views, environment, weather, natural water, nature walk, falls nearby, energy sustainability Wifi is limited.
- Bothwell (7/5): Good -
- Farai (7/5): Good -
- Nkululeko (9/5): Superb -
- Blessing (6/5): Pleasant - The privacy, scenic view from the residence. No network, no WiFi, staff unavailable
- Ellen (10/5): Exquisite - The Madrugada Chalet set in the mountainside is a wonderful once in a lifetime experience. You can experience the exquisite sunrise over the border mountains with Mozambique in your very own balcony or just by lying in bed and letting the sun greet you each day. On-site staff provided exceptional service. It is essential to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to reach this hidden gem, located just minutes from Vumba Botanical Gardens. We highly recommend that you stay here for an unforgettable experience. You need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there.
- Sylvia (7/5): My stay was fine though we couldn't connect to Wifi ,Roger did you do something to your WiFi ? - I liked the chalet ,the 6 bedroomed one it's magnificent the way it was built, the building materials of stonework and timber .they really complete so well with the environment where the chalets are . The road . It's so bad yoooo ! Pot holes and if it's wet that means low clearance cars will find difficulty to get to the place .
- Emmanuel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Karel (7/5): Good -
- Hector (6/5): Pleasant - There was no hot water in winter
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chiunye (9/5): An absolute gem hidden in the mountains. - I love the mountains and staying Madrugada feels like staying on top of a mountain or inside a forest all in one.The mountain air is fantastic and the tranquility a rare occurrence.Nice place to recharge.
