Guest Reviews
- Francesca (10/5): OTTIMA LOCATION. UNICA COSA DOLENTE LA COLAZIONE - IL SILENZIO DELLA NATURA LA COLAZIONE
- Fjellanger (5/5): One night was enough. It was an interesting experience - Exotic and strange Maggots in the toilet and nothing to do
- ELEONORA (10/5): -
- Maxim (10/5): A wonderful and unique place - We had a fantastic stay at Ikalar. Andrés is a wonderful host and a really interesting person to talk to. He took the time to explain the concept behind this beautiful place, which made the experience even better. The tree houses are stunning, spotless, and incredibly peaceful. You truly feel connected to nature. Would absolutely recommend and would love to return.

- cora (1/5): so sad to waste all that money, but it didn't feel safe at all. - it seemed very beautiful, albeit deserted. i lived in a place like this on st. croix, but it actually had people in it, and food, and activity. maybe someday, or sometimes? ikalar could be a living thing. ok. it was deserted. there was one guy there--we translated via phone. no food--he said there would be food at dinnertime, then later, that he could make me lunch. i am one girl, being dropped off midday, w no car, in the deep middle of the jungle. it was so very remote, so deserted. they said i could cancel, and then kept the money.
- Melanie (10/5): fantastische one-of -a -kind ervaring!
- Maarten (10/5): Unieke, bijzondere jungle ervaring!
- Emily (10/5): A perfect reset and return to nature - We had the most amazing stay with Andrés and his team for 3 nights. Truly he could not have done more to make our stay special, including cooking us breakfast and dinner every day, some intense games of jenga, and even setting up a movie night with projector and popcorn to make our stay really special. We were able to use the bikes on the property to cycle the 30 minutes to chemuyil, a small nearby town.
The protection in the rooms of mosquito nets, and the net around the bed meant we got bitten less than we did in a nearby coastal town!
The water pressure was excellent and the bath was such a cool experience!
Of course you will hear a lot of nature, so if you need complete silence to sleep, you will need ear plugs. For us it was very relaxing and we loved going to bed and waking up to the sounds of the wildlife.
There are no solid walls in the property so if you want complete privacy, you will not get that. Again, for us that was part of the charm, as Andrés explained, it is on purpose to make you feel unlimited by the boundaries of walls, encouraging you to think outside the box. You are truly in the middle of the jungle, away from other people, which was a very welcomed pause in the stress of life.
The grounds and rooms are so beautiful, and everything has intention and imagination.
We loved hearing about the plans to further develop Ikalar and we can't wait to return and see what more magic will be there!
Andrés was an incredible, kind, and experienced host, nothing was too much trouble and he truly went above and beyond for us.
Thank you so much Ikalar! Until next time. 💕 Just be prepared that you will be using the bathroom with just a curtain dividing you from the rest of the room, make sure you reeeealllly like your roommate to share such intimacy!
Bring good insect repellent, Andrés did a great job at protecting the rooms but if you spend time by the pool or outdoors, make sure you protect yourself. That being said, we got bitten less at Ikalar than we did in a town!
- Mandy (10/5): Perfect - I loved everything about this place. Peaceful quite very relaxing and very nice owners and staff.
- Lewana (6/5): Location is wrong, it’s 15 km away from town; disgusting dinner and breakfast; beautiful views - It’s very uniquely designed and in the middle of nowhere; there is a rooftop on one of the tree houses which overlooks the tree line, great for bird watching; the pool is quite big; bed had a mosquito net of some sort so we didn’t get a single bite while in the jungle The location on booking.com is extremely wrong, it’s NOT 1.5km from Akumal it’s 14.5km, which makes it isolated and not attainable to get into town; the staff only speaks Spanish which for one us was fine, but could make it difficult for others; they serve you dinner upon request which they charge you a ridiculous amount for (500 pesos/US$25 per person), they served us pasta with pesto and pieces of fish, which was not even good (not surprising); I might book again for one night and would bring my own sandwiches, because the location really is unique, but wouldn’t recommend for two nights.
- Amanda (8/5): House in the tree - Very nice experience ! It's fun and we slept well It's a little far and the road is difficult. There is some insect, it's not for people who is scared of it. we saw a scorpion in the room.
- Iborra (10/5): Exceptional - I loved being able to disconnect and relax in nature in such an incredibly beautiful place.
If you love nature and are looking for a place to disconnect while staying close to amenities, stunning cenotes, and the beach, you have to visit!
The service here is incredible too, I felt at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms are spotless and very clean. There are no solid walls, allowing you to fully enjoy the fresh air and the sounds of the jungle sounds. Also, there are mosquito nets covering the open walls and the bed, ensuring a comfortable stay with no mosquitos.
This place is truly magical! If you're hesitating—don’t! Visit Ikalar, you won’t regret it.
A huge thank you to Andrés and the Ikalar team! you’ve created a true paradise in the jungle. Thank you for making our experience so special and for making us feel at home away from home! 💚 Nothing.
- Alan (10/5): Stunning - What an experience ! We loved this unusual quirky hotel. Like living in an art installation. All very Gaudi inspired. As others have said the approach road isn’t the best . We didn’t have a car so arranged for the hotel to collect us from our previous hotel in Tulum beach for a very reasonable fare, Tulum based taxi fares are astronomical so we weren’t going to use one of those. Comfortable beds, hot showers , peace and quiet. No English spoken unless the owner is there but with google translate, not a problem. We didn’t leave the property for 2 days, ate there and relaxed by the pool . We did take our own wine though which we kept in the kitchen fridge. Definitely a highlight in our trip to Mexico
- Letmar (9/5): A truly unique and impactful development embedded in the selva! - A truly unique and impactful development embedded in the selva!
Although the pictures look fairly impressive (online and ours) they really don’t do this place any justice. It needs to be seen in person!!!
The attention to detail is simply fantastic - this is clearly a passion project.
The grounds as well as the tree houses were immaculately presented - job well done!
Despite being tree houses… the water pressure is excellent, there is plenty of hot water and even satellite internet, which was a welcome surprise.
We stayed in the Deluxe Queen Suite, the room and particularly the bathroom must be seen. This tree house also comes with two additional viewing platforms above - which were an amazing surprise and gave a great purpose to our new GoPro. Due to the open nature of the development (mesh/no glazed windows anywhere) there is little privacy.
We felt the food and drink offering was a touch highly priced - certainly considering other similar properties in the area. Reviewing this would certainly increase revenue - we would have preferred to buy drinks at slightly lower prices at the property rather than making a beer run into town each day.
Finally, giving the rooms a daily once over would make a huge difference to guest experience for little investment and/or time.
Overall, we will recommend this place to everyone we know and look forward to returning in future ourselves!
- Chris (1/5): Never again. - Architecture is interesting. I sent customer service feedback about this property that is nothing like you advertise. facilities you advertise that do not exist. Kitten that poo and urinate in the breakfast room under our chair, on a cushion meant for guests that was brought to the kitchen for the kitten. No chairs to sit on just cushions asked for chairs told they did not have. Room was never entered once, not even to empty the bins.. no coffee tea facilities as advertised. no separate bedroom living room dining area that was advertised for our room description. staff communicated via google translate on their phone. Restaurant is a kitchen with sub standard food just water no option to buy a drink.
- Patricia (10/5): Can’t wait for our next stay! - Absolutely loved everything from start to finish. Extremely secluded and perfect for a relaxing vacation. Everything was perfect!
- Fernanda (10/5): Exceptional - This is an incredible and unique experience. The treehouses and nicely crafted, cozy and clean. Beds are comfortabl, water from the shower is warm and with good pressure.
Overall, the facilities are beautiful. The treehouse 1 has a bonus observation tower which you can climb at your own risk, and was beautiful to do stargazing and watch the sunrise, as you have a 360 view of the jungle.
We had little time there and ended up not having the breakfast in the morning.
The owner prepared a simple, yet delicious dinner for us for 400 mxn each, including salad, main dish and dessert. Would recommend to those that appreciate unique accommodation experiences ir just want to relax surrounded by nature. The jungle sounds in the evening are beautiful. In Ikalar, all was great, nothing I would complain. Just be prepared to be outside a town, meaning that there is nothing really nearby and the roads can be bumby.
- Lucie (7/5): Exotic place in the middle of the jungle - The place is very original: in the trees and in the middle of the jungle. There is no air conditioning but there was a fan above the bed which helped.
You have the possibility to eat dinner for 500 pesos. It’s not that far from Tulum: 30 minutes driving, you absolutely need a car to get there. Our room lacked a sofa to sit comfortably.
Be aware that the place is quite isolated, you need to drive 10 minutes on a bumpy place to get there. Because it’s located in the middle of the jungle it’s a bit dark with all the trees.
- Felipe (4/5): Good price for experiencing if you have a good rental car. - Nature Nature property needs more work. Staff insufficient. Location very poor.
- Suheng (9/5): Superb - It was the most unique accommodation we have stayed in. Remote and quiet, we were immersed in natural habitat. The dinners prepared by the host were delicious. The capacity of hot water supply was inadequate, it was not enough to fill up the bathtub or two hot showers in a row.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Petra (10/5): Most beautiful place on earth - Ikalar is so beautiful and extraordinary that words cannot describe it. I have never seen something like this before on planet earth. Everything was built with so much love, beauty, phantasy and in perfect harmony with nature and the cosmos. Thank you Andres for being a role model how creativity could flow into architecture. We enjoyed our stay so much and felt so welcome and were treated not just as guests, but as friends. All our wishes were immediately taken care of. We hope to be at Ikalar soon again. In deep gratitude Petra and Canan Nothing, everything was perfect
- Tabitha (10/5): AMAz - The breakfast was really great and nicely presented
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (10/5): The most magical experience. - We have just had the most fantastic stay. Andres was such an accommodating host and the property itself is magical. The bed was very comfy and the room and bathroom so totally unique. We had two dinners and two breakfasts and each meal was delicious. I couldn’t recommend staying at Ikalar enough. Nothing.
- Nadia (9/5): Wonderfull expérience ! - Incredible place ! A jungle experience that I never forget ! Thank you Lalo ! Nothing
- Virginia (10/5): This was the most wonderful vacation I have had in a while. I cannot wait to go back. - The property is very special. It was remote but they are so accommodating we spend more time here then we did traveling around. The hosts were amazing. They were incredibly friendly and really want you to be incredibly comfortable. I cannot wait to go back. They treat you like family and we now have new friends for life. It’s really far out there which wasn’t a problem but you do need a car.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
