- Una (10/5): This is heaven - Absolutely a unique stay. The cottage is beautiful& so we equipped. It is on the bank of a lake, absolutely stunning location. Near the airport & town centre. It’s heaven
- James (10/5): Fantastic hosts, amazing location, cosy and clean cabin. Would we return stay here - absolutely - There is lots to love about this property and its location.
The hosts are simply the best hosts that we’ve experienced. They were always on hand (via WhatsApp’s) to ask any questions and they promptly answered. They gave us lots of brilliant information.
The morning we were due to arrive, we asked them about ice fishing for our children - within two hours they had the equipment at the house ready for our arrival including the purchase of bait for them.
The location of the cabin is amazing. About 15 minutes drive from the airport and 20 minutes from the centre of Rovaniemi. Its location set on a lake is simply beautiful. You feel like you are completely out in the wilderness.
Most activities you would likely want to experience are between 20 -40 minutes drive from the house and really easy to get to. I would highly recommend renting a car due to its location, however, I did see people using taxis in the nearby area. The convenience of having a car for us far out weighed the use of having to book taxis etc. The roads are really well maintained and ‘fairly’ easy to agate once you get used to driving in snowy conditions. There are also lovely local walks to go directly from the cabin - the scenery is out of this world and it’s so quiet, it’s really quite special.
The cabin is very clean. Extremely cosy - we never felt cold. You can easily dry your gloves, hats etc on the heaters in the kitchen, which was a must with our children. Whilst joined to the main cabin, you have to go outside to get into the toilet from another door which can a inconvenience in the nights but it really isn’t t a big deal. I took flip flops for us all so that we could quickly pop something on our feet to go back and forth. You really don’t need to put your ‘warm’ clothes on when walking outside to the toilet as it really isn’t about two steps. The shower and sauna are in the same location. Both are great. The cabin is really quite small and whilst this was really cute and cosy, it was difficult to navigate with two adults and two children.
There isn’t any space downstairs to sit together to eat. Downstairs is smaller than the upstairs sleeping area.
The stairs are extremely steep. It was fine for us as our children are a little bit older but I wouldn’t recommend for really young children as it could be a hazard. We quite enjoyed the novelty of them but I can appreciate others may not. The stairs may be an issue if your child needs to use the toilet in the middle of the night.
There is also nowhere upstairs to store any of your clothes so I piled up each of our clothes on the spare bed at the back of the cabin. Not a big deal for us but for someone else this may be.
- Emily (10/5): - This lodge absolutely made our trip! We loved waking up to the snowy scenery in the mornings and cosying up by the fire in the evenings! And the sauna was a godsend during the cold days! We loved the addition of the gaming console and Uno! Nothing! It was perfect! The only thing we could think of to make the stay even more incredible is including playing cards, an outdoor fire pit and maybe a welcome basket with a s’mores kit- but we’re just being greedy!😂
- Zoë (9/5): Tot rust gekomen op een magische plaats! - De rust, de omgeving, het uitzicht Compacte leefruimte
- Alena (10/5): - All was amazing
- Bilge (10/5): Total Bliss - Its a quiet and secluded area, looking over the frozen lake. Noting
- David (9/5): Great cottage with a beautiful view - We had a lovely stay at VillaNorva with our two kids in February, it is slightly remote but with a car no problem. You can get easily to Rovaniemi, Santa Claus village, airport etc. It is a quiet area with a perfect view over the frozen lake. Everything you need is there. We communicated with the owners via WhatsApp, they provided a link to videos (e.g. how to switch on the sauna). It never felt cold inside. There is a heat pump / AC which permanently regulates the temperature, additionally there is a fireplace to make it really warm and cozy inside. There is enough wood behind the hut (it is a mökki not Villa 😉). The interior is generally also more „mökki-style“: mattresses on the floor, simplistic. Our kids loved that and we know that from our experiences in summer in South Finland. You have to put on the bed sheets and covers yourself. Only the microwave is getting a bit too old which is very hard to open with the broken handle. The fact that you had to quickly go outside in -25C to get to the toilet only added to the fun aspect. Shower is in the sauna.
- Kerry (7/5): Nice location....but not so good - Wonderful scenic location right on the lake.
Away from the city, but within close driving distance - Check in is only available from 6pm and requests for a reasonable time were declined....this is very late and inflexible.
- We had to make up our own beds, and I'm talking about complete, put on the fitted sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers...I would expect that at a cheap hostel, but frankly it's ridiculous when a place is charging so much and then they expect you to not only put it all on, but also to take it all off for them afterwards.
- Nicole (9/5): Superb - This is a stunning location with the most beautiful views from the lounge, veranda and bedroom. Peacefully serene surroundings. The cottage is warm, cosy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chia (8/5): Recommend for family, friends to stay couple of days to enjoy the vacation. - Great location, nice and silence. The view, the facilities are good. The staff are nice, providing very clear instructions.
- Jenjogs (9/5): Beautiful property in a beautiful location - The location of this property is perfect, and the views are idealic. It has all the facilities required for a comfortable stay, and the owner went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The bathroom is just outside the main doors but still heated. The property itself is warm, and we really enjoyed our time here. We would re-book this property if we were to visit again, and it's possible to see the Northern lights if the weather is right! The bed wasn't made when we arrived. The stairs to the bedroom are steep. The setup in the roof allows for many guests but I do not think the property suits more than two or three people due to lack of downstairs space. As a couple, we enjoyed the property but thought the bedroom space was aimed a bit too much at children and we would prefer a more mature set-up as pictured in the property photos
- Kylie (10/5): We used Uber taxi to get us to and from villaNorva. The owners were 100% amazing with us and we couldn't fault our s - Everything was perfect..The location was like being in a Christmas card.. Very peaceful with a sence of serenity and tranquility..We loved warming up by the fire.. After having lots of fun in the snow. We were lucky to watch the lights from the window it was a very special trip.
- Paulius (9/5): Superb - Before booking, we didn't notice that the toilet is outside of main apartment.
- Martin (10/5): Perfect! - Everything is simply marvellous. The house is quite small overall. But it has everything you need. A kitchen, a dining area, a couch, a fireplace. The sleeping/living area is on the top floor and offers plenty of space. The bathroom is in the same house, you only have to take three steps outside. This is no problem even at -25 degrees, you don't have to put on any extra clothes. There is also a sauna in the bathroom, which we used twice. Annu and her family are warm, helpful and respond immediately.
The location is perfect for a holiday in Lapland. Rovaniemi is 10-15 minutes away by car and you are far enough out that you can see the Northern Lights. All other attractions can be easily reached from here by car in all directions.
We will definitely come back!
- Familybb (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay at VillaNorva, it had everything we were looking for and more. It's a tiny but well equipped house in an exceptional location. The hosts were lovely and very helpful. Thank you
- Max (10/5): A beautiful little winter break, in the perfect setting! - Stunning views and peaceful surroundings. Hosts were brilliant, very attentive and quick to reply if we had any questions. Amazing spot with very little light pollution, which was great for seeing the northern lights. Close to everything you need, but would recommend hiring a car! Nothing
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice stay, Sea View from Bed is incredible.
Hosts are courteous, very friendly and always available
- Anonymous (10/5): Perfect - can't wait to come back and stay longer next time! - Just the most beautiful location, couldn't ask for a more perfect view and the lake was great to walk or run on!
really clean, well stocked, warm and toasty, lovely sauna and the most powerful shower I have ever had!! Water is really nice to drink.
Easy to find with just the most comprehensive instructions from the owners who gave us all the information we needed to get there and enjoy the stay. Toilet outside is interesting, but it's very warm and we found it wasn't a bother for us, it was actually quite nice to be able to run out and in - I think it might be more challenging with smaller children though.
The top of the stairs was a bit of a worry for us, as our eldest is prone to sleep walking, but there was a mattress we weren't using, so we were able to place this across the gap, this is obviously only an issue if you have younger children (or a sleep walker)
- Cathal (10/5): Beautiful location and allows for independent living. very convenient for airport and nearby ‘Santa’ activities. - Great facilities for self catering, nice stove, separate sleeping area NA
- Julien (9/5): Superb - Nice welcome from the owner, nice sunset on the lake, nice view from the room, fireplace, private sauna and complete kitchen.
Snow shoes and land and stuff to catch a fish in the frozen lake ! We have to go out and take an other door for the bathroom and sauna, but its bearable cause its just next and in the same house.
The stairs are little bit steep
- Claire (10/5): Everything you need for a Finnish getaway - If you're looking for a quiet retreat and the full Finnish experience, than VillaNorva is just that for you: This place is an extremely charming and cosy tiny cabin set in a gorgeous location by the lake, only a 15 min drive from any activity in Rovaniemi (you'll need a car but it's well worth it). The sky is clear at night making it perfect for stargazing and spotting the northern lights, unforgettable moment! And the best part is, you can literally see them from the comfort of your bed or the porch looking out to the lake.
The cabin is simple, very cosy and tiny yet very well equipped: we easily cooked a few meals for 4, enjoyed daily saunas, and ventured out in the surroundings with snowshoes. What a treat!
The hosts Annu and Janne have been nothing but amazing to us, quick to respond to our questions and requests as well as help us figure out the best activities to make the most of our Finnish experience. There were 4 of us sleeping upstairs so we had to get clever to stay organised in a small space and struggled a bit with places to hang our clothes. Other than that, it was dreamy.
- Eileen (9/5): Cosy stay with great lake views - Great location, it felt peaceful and remote enough but still was only a short drive outside Rovaniemi.
The cabin was just what we wanted, cosy, clean, cute and playful, and the first thing you see in the morning is the view onto the lake!
We felt super relaxed there for 4 nights.
Host was very friendly and accommodating!
- Sam (10/5): Overall we loved our stay and made some lovely memories , the location on its own would score 10/10 but together wit - The villa was clean and fresh and warm and had lots of facilities . There was heating and a wood burner with endless logs .
Upstairs is one long bedroom which goes the whole length of the property there are comfortable beds x 4 with one being double and three singles , there is a tv and an amazing view from the window over the lake and northern lights if it’s a clear day. where Villanorva is set out from the town it is peaceful and dark away from the glow of town lights . therefore it makes it an excellent location to spot the northern lights or just have some quiet time .
in the winter months the lake is frozen and as a family we had so much fun using it as a snow playground to build igloos and snowmen. There is the odd person Ice fishing or skidooing. but apart from that you pretty much have it to yourselves .
The villa also has a sauna and a kitchen area fully equipped and the owners left us some welcome chocolate , milk , coffee etc which was a lovely touch. They also were great at communications and any question we had they answered right away .
The villa is also in a great location to travel to Lapland or any of the safaris , however you do need a car to travel around . We rented a car from Ade Car and they were so helpful and even had the car started and warmed up for us in our arrival .
Tip : go to the supermarket on the way as there are no supermarkets near the villa . Coffee , tea, sugar , washing up liquid etc is all there so don’t need to buy the little bits you need to cook with . loved everything but maybe some storage built in upstairs for clothes to hang would be a bonus .
