Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (9/5): Beautiful and picturesque - It’s a lovely old building. There is no sign to say where it is. I walked around for quite a while trying to find out where it is. The front door is always locked so that also confused me, thinking it was someone’s house.
- Boris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeferson (7/5): good view, bad breakfast - The view room
size of bed breakfast was very restricted, poor options and very late, started 9:30. If you have plans for the day, you will be late
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Amazing location on the "quiet" side of Kotor Bay. The owner and personnel were really friendly. There's a private swimming area in front of the villa with sunbeds and chairs. It's of course an old building so can be a bit noisy, but nothing too bad for us.
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant - We liked the Old Marina, but the issue was that it wasn’t really as described in online website. We booked it because it was described as a 4star with private parking. Well, it certainly wasn’t 4 star! Not even close. The parking was limited and across the street and unmarked.
It was incredibly difficult to initially locate as it did not display any sign or name to tell you that you were in the right place. Our room was OK with lovely views across the water but the en-suite shower room was tiny and not well equipped or maintained. - Dennis (1/5): BE CAREFULL AS PROPERTY CHARGED ME 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME STAY AND HAS NOT REFUNDED THIS - Be careful with this property as I have been charged for the stay 3 times. Once 6 months before my stay, then once one month before my stay & finally one month after my stay. After contacting the owner he said he would issue a refund which I amn still awaiting for 2 months later. I am told the delay is due to money laundering checks by the bank. BE CAREFULL IF YOU BOOK THIS PROPERTY THAT YOU ARE NOT CHARGED MANY TIMES. I have been overcharged 3 times for my stay at this property. BE CAREFULL.......
- Mark (9/5): Lovely taster of what Montenegro has to offer - Location, scenery, access to the water, parking spot, historical building, friendly and helpful owner. Several restaurants, a local supermarket and bakery nearby.
Easy access to the ferry in Lepetane to avoid driving through Kotor and round the inlet The portable AC struggled to keep the room cool.
- Tgs. (10/5): A pure little gem away from the Kotor crowds - Absolutely beautiful place away from the main Kotor crowds, room was perfect and very traditional and loved the view over the bay. Staff very friendly and welcoming and loved the terrace in front overlooking the bay. Wish I could have stayed longer. There's a little traffic noise outside if you have windows open to let air in, but the thick windows massively cut it out when closed. Also a little annoying to be woken up by a large Tui cruise ship pulling in bellowing announcements across the bay (no fault of hotellier)
- Plamena (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location, very good rooms, polite staff, The tables located in front of the hotel offer a wonderful view that we admired for hours. Recommend
- Markas (5/5): This place is okay for 1 night stay, but don’t think it is 4 star hotel because it is not - Location was nice, good breakfast, pleasant staff Wi-fi was not working the night when we arrived, only in the morning. Our bathroom didn’t have a shower curtain nor hooks to hang towels. This resulted in whole bathroom floor being covered in water. AC was working loudly. However for us the worst thing was pillows - very stiff and tall, straining the neck. Also do not forget that you have to reserve parking before arriving
- Steve (4/5): Don't book Double Room with Garden View - The location is the only reason to stay at Old Mariner. Right on the water with access to Kotor Bay. Do not book the Double Room with Garden View. The only view is of a dirty side yard through barred windows. There were no blinds on the windows to block the light. Internet was very slow and not usable. Bathroom was moldy and having a shower meant that everything in the bathroom got wet... extremely small shower with no curtain. I'm sure the rooms facing the bay are nicer but I would not stay here again. Unless you pay through Booking.com, they require payment in cash which is very inconvenient.
- Ivana (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect, this is the real getaway, if you need one! I will deffinitely come back. The name itself derives from or at least, invokes S. T. Coleridge's "The Rhyme of Ancient Mariner"... it has something in it, in that old building! It was something special, you feel out of place and time. History in making, immortal and timeless!
- Sofie (9/5): Superb - Very friendly host. Great breakfast. We went on an activity by boot, arranged by the host, and he prepared us breakfast afterwards so around noon, which was really nice. A little smell in the bathroom.
- Chanel (10/5): Charmed by History and Great Service at Old Mariner Villa - Our stay at the Old Mariner Villa was such a unique and memorable experience.
Breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious, and the peaceful atmosphere made it all the more enjoyable. As Canadians (whose country is less than 160 years old!) staying in a building that's over 1,000 years old was especially fascinating - so much history and character! The host was incredibly welcoming. He greeted us upon arrival, gave us a lovely tour of the property, and even helped arrange our taxi rides to and from the villa. We truly felt well taken care of.
- Gojko (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- King (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was in order, and the house was truly fantastic – clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. However, one thing I didn’t like was the way the owner acted at the end of our stay. He didn’t say goodbye to us, and even raised his voice when asking us to move the cars from his parking area. It didn’t seem polite at all and somewhat affected our overall experience.
- Jimmy (8/5): Very good -
- Lior (8/5): The hotel is on the waterfront, but the trip to the city center was full of traffic jams - sitting near the water good size room
- Danica (10/5): If you're looking for a place where you can peacefully enjoy every moment and truly rest your soul, this is the perf -
- Katarzyna (7/5): Good - * Home made breakfast served at the terrace at the woterfront with the view to the mountains
* very friendly, English speaking stuff
* clean
* small kitchen with the fridge and utensils * Very tiny bathroom
* small, dark room, little space to move around. We had the budget room with garden view, if you are not on budget I really recommend to take the room with mountainview - you pay not only for the view- the room is much bigger and the bathroom also nicer
- Anonymous (10/5): Would 100% reccomend. Great location and great breakfast - Everything was amazing !
- Riccardo (7/5): Good -
- Sergei (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view, unforgettable
- Fanny (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was good although it was served really late. Nice location. We recommend if you provide breakfast you let guest know it will be till 9h30am. Breakfast is served really late.
The bathroom smelled spout and the shower didn't work properly, it wasn't straight to take a proper shower.
The beds were uncomfortable, not hard enough for sleeping.
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fatihkoc1 (10/5): It was a calm and peaceful vacation, just what we needed to relax. - The hotel is a bit far from the city center, but there are markets and restaurants around, so it's still convenient. Waking up to the stunning view of the Bay of Kotor right in front of you is truly a pleasure. The hotel has its own parking area — they give you a metal parking barrier that stays with you for the entire duration of your stay, which is very thoughtful. We had a wonderful 5-night stay and felt very comfortable throughout. The staff checked in with us every day to see if we needed anything, which we really appreciated. It was a peaceful and enjoyable experience overall. We also stayed in a sea-view room, which was beautiful. It had one bedroom, a kitchen, and a cozy living room. At first, the building’s old architecture made us a bit hesitant, but by the end of the holiday, we didn’t want to leave. We truly enjoyed our stay.
- Edan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Araceli (10/5): Exceptional - The views, the bed and the breakfast
- Benjamin (10/5): Beautiful view - Really lovely view of the lake, nice family owners
- Riccardo (7/5): A basic family business in the best spot on the bay - Exceptionally charming location
Beautiful historic building
Committed and friendly family staff
Good value for money In need of refurbishment
Basic facilities/amenities and service
Overall low level of comfort but for a good price
- Qi (7/5): Good -
- Sian (7/5): Waterfront location was really wonderful and the house full of character. - Waterfront location was really wonderful and the house full of character. Therewas parking for the car and a convenient and cheap bus service to Kotor and Tivat every hour. Close to lovely restaurants. Lacking in complaimentaries - only one coffee sachet between us and sugar.
- Oskar (10/5): A escape from the Kotor crowds - This is the ultimate "relax not far from a tourist attraction" place. You find silence, and history, so good food. You can even skip Kotor :) The road is scary, but it's worth
- Danielle (8/5): Very good - Beautiful house and location outside of Kotor
- Yulia (10/5): Highly recommended! - It’s amazing! For sure one of my best experiences which I won’t forget. Staying there, you feel the history of the 500 years old building and the tendance of the family which is taking care of the house during all these years. We booked a room with the garden view, but the owner upgraded it to sea view. This view is really astonishing!
The room itself is very cozy, clean and has everything you need for a good rest. The bed is comfortable. The breakfast was served in the room, it was tasty and enough for staring a wonderful day (scrambled eggs, cheese, yogurt with muesli, toasts, butter, jam and orange juice).
I also liked Prcanj, it’s absolutely worth seeing. You can get to Kotor by the bus Blue Line or have an hour walk with the wonderful views around. We also walked from Prcanj to Tivat (around 14 km) and enjoyed this walking trip a lot.
So our stay was perfect, thanks to Alexander for the hospitality!
- Tolga (10/5): A perfect stay with stunning views and heartfelt hospitality - We stayed in a sea view room and it was incredibly perfect. Its location is very close to the Old Town. The owner, Alexander, is very kind and always ready to help with everything. On our next visit, Old Mariner Villa will be our first choice.
- Drašković (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (10/5): The place is amazing - Everything was out fav stop, view, location, decor! Breakfast didn’t look like the photo, no ham and other stuff. No coffee. Arrived at 9.10 but they said from 9.30 so had to jump out of bed to eat before it went cold.
- Nina (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful contemporary house in a lovely and peaceful town. Amazing view.
- Sanja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bojan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (10/5): Nice castle :) - views are perfect it was a little cold in february
- Oleg (9/5): Superb -
- Mahmoud (8/5): Very good - Very beautiful vew and location
- Ahmet (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great experience. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, you can definitely choose this place.
- Usman (10/5): Excellent - Clean and at perfect location, you can watch Kotor bay from your apartment window. I booked for garden view room but owner upgraded for free. Additionally free personal parking was provided. Nothing
- Durmus (10/5): Exceptional - Very old stone house. Under protection of UNESCo. House was very comfortable and big. Location is perfect. There are car parking place. Moreover the breakfast was very tasty. I recommend this house to everybody. Maybe they can put some shampoos at bathtoom
- Briskrat (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful apartment in an old and cozy house with history right on the seashore with a wonderful view! The owner is very nice and responsive! Special for me vegan options were included in the breakfast. Great place. Highly recommend!
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivan (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and cosy breakfast
Beautiful sea view Little bit cold and not great heating system during winter period
- Shivshankar (8/5): Very good - Property is extraordinary. Views and location is commendable. The lady who comes to serve breakfast is warm and friendly. The host was quite cold. We ran into each other a few times but never once asked how we are doing or if we need any help. The host should know that a small courtesy goes a long way with guests traveling far from their home. Further, there was no cold water in the wash basin. We informed the lady who comes to clean and she said she will inform the owner. But action was taken during the entire 4 nights we stayed. We struggled through freezing cold water. The blankets in the living room were old and dirty.
- Ilgaz (10/5): The location and view of the property were excellent. The hosting was amazing and the staff were very polite and attenti - Location & view, hospitality, cleanliness, comfort.
- Sanja (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great! Would recommend and for sure will come back.
- Mahmoud (7/5): Good - Everything is wonderful. You live as if you are in the family home and in another world, and the view is more than wonderful ......
- Ghassan (10/5): Great atmosphere great experience totally recommend - Absolutely lovely location and host was very helpful and friendly.
- Tatjana (10/5): Great historical place with amazing views, very comfortable - Very picturesque location and amazing view from the windows. It is UNESCO protected building with historical background, which we enjoyed a lot. You cannot tell it from the photos, but this is a very spacious apartment. It was super comfy. They also do the cleaning daily. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Car parking is available if requested in advance, which is really important for this area. 15 min drive to Kotor, also bus available.
The restaurants nearby were working in late October. There is also a shop and a bakery. For those wanting to sunbathe or swim - lots of possibilities too.
- Mark (10/5): AMAZING! - The room was well prepared before our arrival, and offered stunning views of the Bay. The owner was incredibly courteous and was attentive to all of our needs, even though our brief stay was at the beginning of the off-season. Alek shared the history of the Inn, which is also his family home for hundreds of years. The shower and bathroom were a bit small, but is to be expected for older buildings.
As an American, visiting Montenegro for the first time, the traffic was a bit...scary.
- Radosav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristine (8/5): Very good - The host was very kind, he told about restaurants nearby and provided a room with better view. Good location next to waterfront. Just keep in mind that the house is very old, still the room provides all the facilities you need.
- Jovan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Madara (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful view and location, loved the design of our room. The owner was very kind and helpful. For extra money you can have really good breakfast.
- Jovana (10/5): Exceptional -
