Guest Reviews
- Hugo (10/5): Amazing bed and breakfast in Karakol which is definitely the place to stay. - One of the best places we’ve stayed in Central Asia for sure! The staff were so helpful and kind, and the rooms were spacious and very nicely designed. The whole property is so nice to be in, especially the lovely garden and terrace and even the basement for drinking if that’s what you’re after. Everything was perfect!
- James (10/5): Fanacht dochreidte i dteach álainn. Caighdeáin arda agus óstaigh chabhracha. Is cathair iontach í Karakol i gceantar ála - Teach álainn i suíomh dochreidte. Ósais sa chathair.
beautiful house in an incredible location. an oasis in the city. rud ar bith a bhí sé iontach.
Nothing it was amazing.

- Henna (10/5): Lovely stay with helpful staff and great breakfast! - The house was beautifully designed, big windows and lots of natural light! Rooms were clean and nice, staff amazing and breakfast really tasty with filter coffee! We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come again.

- Laura (10/5): Warm hospitality, clean, and comfortable. Highly recommend! - It was a warm and cozy guest house with wonderful owner/operators. The location is great. You can walk anywhere downtown but it’s on a quiet street. The family who runs it is very kind, knowledgeable about the area (and history), and they offered us wonderful hospitality. The breakfast was great and we ordered Onigiri to go (miso walnut was best). A very nice treat to have on the trails! I only wish we had stayed longer. Highly recommend to anyone traveling through Karakol and up into the Tian Shen. N/A - everything was wonderful

- Muhammad Zainalmawar (9/5): It's such a cozy and quiet place! - The rooms are clean. The place is quiet and very cozy. Breakfast was great. They have a play room in the basement. No bidet. Could use a fan in the rooms during summer.
- Yj (10/5): - This place is very cozy, and the staff is incredibly helpful and kind. I highly recommend it, it's just like being in Japan.
- Mathieu (8/5): Great location - Beautiful house with a lot of light
Well decorated
Very close to the city centre
Nice rooms Can be a bit noisy as the place to eat breakfast is right in the middle of the rooms
Some might find the mattresses too hard
- Ernst (10/5): - Sehr freundlich!!!
- Ruslan (10/5): -
- Stefan (10/5): Exceptional - Super clean, great breakfast, whole day tea for free, japanese dishes in the evening as an option
- Antti (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - I loved my one night at Matsunoki and wished I had booked the guesthouse on the front-end of my visit to Karakol. Yuka and her family are lovely hosts and have created a warm and very comfortable environment. My room had an excellent king size bed with mountain views. After 3.5 weeks in Central Asia, the high-density, foam mattress and crisp linens were the best bedding I had by far. This is a superb option in Karakol and well-worth the price. No complaints or recommendations for improvement. Everything was great.
- Tímea (10/5): Relaxing guesthouse at the heart of Karakol - We were absolutely satisfied with our stay in Matsunoki. We have been to Japan last autumn so this interesting mix of Japanese and Kyrgiz culture amazed us. The ambient of the guesthouse is very relaxing with spacious areas and a lot of wooden surfaces. The owner was very kind, helped us with whatever question we had. There is laundry service, which we really needed, as our clothes were very dirty from the horse-riding tour at Song Kul. There is a common fridge for the guest - it was nice to be able to grab a cold bottle of beer whenever returning from a day of hiking. Also, the location was great: close to the city center but in a nice, quiet street. Would definitaly stay there again! Nothing.
- Rick (10/5): Exceptional - The beds are comfortable, good warm shower. The whole hotel is focused on sustainability, and the owners are kind and supportive
- Yukiko (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and kind staff, comfortable woody design, clean room It’s a little bit expensive compared to other place in Karakol.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Super accommodating owners, and was a clean, cozy place. Breakfast was tasty with good variety.
- Aisuluu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karyn (10/5): A great place to stay in Karakol - My stay at Matsunoki was wonderful. Yuka and her family were very welcoming. She provided invaluable help to me for making sightseeing and transport arrangements as well as very useful information, which was especially appreciated since I stayed in Karakol after peak season. The accommodations were very nice, clean, and well situated. The breakfasts were ample and delicious.
- Tyler (9/5): Superb -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent attention to detail to make our stay pleasurable. Host was friendly and location was close to centre, but still quiet and relaxing at night.
- Serva (10/5): Memorable, you can relax well. - Cleanest guesthouse I have ever been. Accommodating owner with good food. Relaxing and solemn place. You can feel you are really on a vacation! A must visit place if you are staying in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan none
- Azteca74 (9/5): Superb - Everything was perfect, super clean and bright room, lovely terrace just in front of our room, amazing breakfast, and of course the hosts, they were extremely nice, friendly and helpful, always providing information and support to make our visit easier! Nothing, everything was great!
- Pk (9/5): Superb -
- Konstantin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (10/5): Nice stay - Matsunoki is a nice and clean hotel, conveniently located in the central area. The owners are a very kind family. The architecture is a mix of Japanese and Kyrgyz styles, which gives off a relaxing vibe. In the lobby, you can find water and tea at your disposal, and you can also request laundry service if you need to wash your clothes during your stay
- Harriet (10/5): Brilliant guesthouse with warm and welcoming hosts. - Wonderful property with lovely staff. Comfortable bedroom and great breakfast. Perfectly clean and cosy. Helped to do some of our laundry, too. Really good value for money. The bathroom could do with an extra shelf for toiletries but that’s very minor - we loved our stay.
- Iris (10/5): Fantastic place to stay! - Super friendly host family, very helpful, excellent breakfast! Very comfortable rooms nothing
- Kira (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely loved our stay here. We highly recommend & will come back again:)
- Emmanuelle (9/5): Beautiful home, perfect for a stay in Karakol with a family ! - Very nice big house with a lot of rooms. Parking facilities available.
Very nice breakfast, nice and friendly staff.
Very conveniently located near the center of Karakol. You do not need the car to go out for dinner. Everything was OK, we enjoyed our stay here, and would certainly recommend it to other travellers.
Maybe a little bit expensive compared to other options in Kyrgyzstan, but very nice anyway !
- Carlo (8/5): I would come back to the property if I return to Karakol - Very clean house, and friendly staff, nice garden, good location It’s been bit too hot due to external weather, if I recall well there was no air con in the rooms
- Rolita (9/5): Nice and clean property, with kind hosts. - Nice and clean property I wish there could be more options for breakfast
- Frank (9/5): Superb - The only Japanese electronic bidet toilet in kyrgyzstan
Bath room is very nice
Japanese hostess is friendly No air conditioning
- Rasmus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rasmus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kent (8/5): Stay here! There are a lot of choices in Karakol, but you can't go wrong with Matsunoki - What an amazing oasis! After two weeks of traveling by bike, Matsunoki was a great place to recover and explore Karakol. Yuka and her staff are warm and welcoming, but yet respectful of your privacy. Breakfast was fast and delicious. Also, Yuka allowed us to keep our bikes in the basement which was a accessed from outside. This little gesture made our stay even more restful knowing that our bikes were safe. Nothing!
- Samuele (10/5): Excellent, highly recommended! - The location is excellent and the hotel is very clean and cozy. Breakfast is also very good and with fresh local ingredients. The owner Yukie is also very helpful with booking our horse riding trip in the Karakol Valley and gave us lots of recommendations and tips on things to do in the area. Only positive vibes! Nothing really, we liked our stay at Matsunoki very much.
- Andre (9/5): Would definitely stay here again! - Friendly host, beautiful common area and room, great breakfast, all really well thought out.
- Eamon (10/5): Best hotel we stayed at in Kyrgyzstan for a great price - Amazing vibe, super comfortable bed, really lovely staff and good breakfast Need lamps for the bedroom
- Aizan (10/5): Perfect stay and best guest house in Karakol - Super clean rooms and bath. Cherry trees in the garden and we could help ourselves to the fruits.
- Yevgeniya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Masa (10/5): Comfortable stay - Clean, cozy, helpful staffs. Wooden interior makes guest feel like staying in mountain lodge. Very beautiful kilims too !
- Antje (8/5): Very good -
- Mithun (9/5): Superb -
- Muhammed (9/5): Superb -
- Minerva (10/5): Clean and Spacious Japanese Style Hotel - They have a Japanese style ambiance as well as equipment. They also have the Japanese style toilet bidet in the ground floor. The place is spacious and breathy, clean and organize. The breakfast is healthy but limited however, just the right amount. Coffee is available all throughout the stay. Nothing - just perfect for our stay.
- Precious (10/5): Excellent - One of the best! The host is very thoughtful and hospitable, the breakfast is sumptuous and she even prepared packed food for us since we checked out early. Place is nearby point of interests. It is such a nice place to come home to after a day of excursion for its coziness and in general just a relaxing place to be. Would highly recommend! Nothing!
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - Very good breakfast with nice variety every day.
- Neeharika (10/5): Exceptional -

- Jonas (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - clean and cozy hot water is not work
- Heidi (10/5): Wonderful and cozy! 10/10 stay - Everything! We had returned from multiple days of hiking in cold and rainy weather, so we were relieved to stay in a cozy, warm, and peaceful place. Our private twin room had a view of the garden and mountains, a comfy bed, a hot shower and clean bathroom, and plenty of space. We enjoyed the morning coffee and always-available water and tea, the fresh and delicious breakfast, and the relaxing and quiet common spaces. The host was also very welcoming. Book a night (or more) here if you want to feel rested and re-energized!
- Julio (9/5): A gem in Karakol - Nice little hotel with a very good vibe and supreme interior decoration.
The owner goes out of her way to make your stay a pleasure. Undoubtedly the best hotel I found up to now in Kyrgyzstan.
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional - This property is amazing. Great facilities and the owner is so nice. Would 100% stay again There wasn’t AC in the room but the weather outside was nice and I was comfortable with the window open
- Marion (10/5): Exceptional - Very relaxed place - we loved the wooden interior and the breakfast was very good
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay, with friendly and helpful staff. Room was great and the whole place felt very clean. Breakfast was extra good! Location was also great - close to town, very convenient. All round an amazing place to stay, where you could feel the attention to detail and the care that is put into the place. I highly recommend!! N/A
- Raphael (10/5): Fantastic- can’t sing praises loud enough. If you are in Karakol, stay here ! - Immaculate, yet soft and warm and homely. Japanese, Kyrgyz, and international. Built on a deep understanding of travelling and tourism. I was a little sceptical at some of the reviews. After spending time with the people who made this guest house, brick by brick, and who run and manage it, I am really in awe at them, and better understand the offer they make. Breakfast is exceptional. Light, bright, clean design and linens etc. Also, very knowledgable about the area, amongst other things! I can’t fault it.. and I’m a really difficult customer generally - the night before was at Feel Nomad Camp on the lake and two nights before that were a fancy suite at the Sheraton in Bishkek… frankly, the Sheraton breakfast was no match for these guys, and the room at Matsumoto was far cleaner!
- Terence (9/5): Superb - clean, everything well
organized
- Hannah (10/5): We had a great time here preparing for our bike race. - Everything was fantastic! Stay here, you won't regret it. The place has a certain feng shui that makes you feel relaxed, the breakfast is great and the hosts are incredibly kind! The location is also good, tucked away but close to the center of Karakol. Nothing!
- Beat (10/5): It was superb, after booking 4 nights we extended our stay for 2 more nights so to enjoy more - Everything Nothing
- Hadeel (10/5): Exceptional - The place is sparkling clean and lovely with beautiful wooden beams.
A lovely garden with a table if you prefer to have breakfast in the fresh air.
The beds are comfortable, clean and warm. Ensuite bathroom very clean with good water pressure.
Coffee and tea available 24 hours a day.
Breakfast was made of a choice of eggs or porridge. In addition to the daily serving of small plates with different kinds of cheese, cold cuts, dried fruits, crepes, bread, 3 kinds of jam, butter, cookies & biscuits, and fresh fruits (depending on availability can be watermelon, grapefruit, pomegranate, banana, melon, peach, etc..).
The owners were welcoming and helpful.
The location is perfect. We walked to every attraction.
We are two 61 year old ladies.
We loved the place and we highly recommend it. Don't look any further. This is the place for you. Nothing
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable beds, good airflow in the rooms, breakfast was helpful and the host went above and beyond!
- Jomart (9/5): Superb -
- Bart (9/5): Good experience! - Beautiful building, friendly host. She helped a lot in planning our moutain trek.
Very convenient that it was possible to store our luggage for 2 days during our trekking.
Possibility to drink a beer at the bar. Bit warm in the room (no airco)
- Marc (9/5): Good clean place to stay near the centre. - We stayed two nights in a twinroom, on the first floor, on the corner at the front side. Central located in Karakol, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the cathedral and the centre with shops and restaurants. Very well maintained and fresh decorated guesthouse with clean rooms. Good WiFi. A tasty breakfast. Very friendly owners who speak English. Near the entrance is a table with a lot of information about (travelling to/from and hiking around) Karakol. A large outdoor terrace on the first floor offers good possibilities to sit outside. A very good and recommended place to stay! During our stay mid June roadwork's were around the guesthouse, but we of course understood the necessity. The owner was very glad the municipality reconstructed the street. Although Karakol has a higher altitude, the cooling down of the room in the evening to a good sleeping temperature is slower than you would expect. (Both remarks are an observation and certainly not a negative comment.)
- Maya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kalybek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ratan (10/5): surely recommended - extremely clean and well maintained with a great breakfast
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great stay, a relaxing and quiet place to stay after crazy days up in the mountains.

- Anne (7/5): Good -
- Maya (9/5): Superb - Beautiful, cozy and clean place with a nice view and friendly staff. Comfortable bed and linens, good shower water pressure :) You can easily tell this is not your usual brick or stone house - most of the house is made of wood (and very creatively); there is this warm and safe feeling when staying at the house. Loved the ceiling and many other details that made my experience really pleasant overall.
- Annika (8/5): Very good - Great guest house in a central location in Karakol. Very good breakfast and lovely host family. Definitely recommended.
- Диляра (9/5): Great place to stay, great host Yoki - Breakfast is great Signage of the guest house
- Mim (9/5): Superb -
- Леонид (8/5): A frendly simple hotel with reasonable price and a nice service - A frendly personal, everything is clean, tasty breakfest, interesting nterior in japan style Not so big ascetic rooms
- Robin (10/5): Cosy gueshouse - Beautiful comfy guesthouse, impeccably clean, lovely healthy breakfasts. One of my favourite places in Kyrgyzstan.
- Alan (9/5): As close to perfect for me as possible - Superb breakfast! Extremely helpful host. Good WiFi.Great location. For me i would not stay anywhere else i Karakol. Nothing.. Everything was fantastic.
- Patrick (10/5): Wonderful guesthouse - Great guesthouse- clean and comfortable rooms, tastefully appointed with places to relax outside. The breakfast was amazing. The owner was very helpful and provided lots of information about Karakol and the surrounding area.
- Sophie (10/5): we tried to extend our stay! - Beautiful house, beautiful decor, lovely staff. The cleanest most aesthetically pleasing place we’ve stayed in Kyrgyzstan. No complaints. everything was perfect!
- Lucie (10/5): would not stay anywhere else in Karakol - - absolutely everything. the place is beautiful, really thoughtfully decorated. the rooms are comfy and well equipped. the place has a beautiful terrace where you can relax with a drink in the evening and a nice garden as well
- Yuri (the manager/owner) is so so kind, welcoming and helpful. can’t thank her enough for her hospitality
- the free breakfast is delicious, it’s what I would expect to be served in a 5 star resort
- the services are beyond expectations: from arranging transport out of the city for us (shoutout to Vadim, the best driver), to offering laundry services after our trek (for just 300 som per laundry bag!!) can’t complain about a single thing
- Iulia (10/5): Best of Kyrgyz and Japanese hospitality fusion - Yuka-san's place is absolutely gorgeous, cosy, and very clean. The breakfast included is delicious, and the general attention to details stands out.
There is also parking bearby and the location is very convenient.
Absolutely recommend if you are thinking of staying in Karakol!
- Sanat (9/5): Excellent, despite several minor irks. - social media slowish wifi, location (too close to downtown for my liking), plot size is too small (can’t walk around the property). The place seems to attract mostly younger customers, so be prepared for that. also a bit pricey.
- Manuel (7/5): Good, maybe not greatest value for money - Nice interior design, great breakfast, friendly staff, decent location, nice bathroom Value for money compared to other places, small room (no closet or anything to organize luggage), not very soundproof doors (heard people walking and talking until late)
- T (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely guesthouse. Good breakfast. Welcoming and friendly owner.
- Peter (10/5): Lovely place with great hosts and super facilities - lovely hosts
the view from the Balcony
super clean and very good facilities
tasty breakfast Nothing
