Guest Reviews
- lana (10/5): - The authentic Japanese experience close to attractions and the food was exceptional. Staff were friendly and welcoming. It was a pleading to stay there and I would again
- Fabrizio (7/5): -
- Henryk (6/5): -
- Cohen (10/5): -
- Cindy (10/5): Great value and dinner is a must! - Convenient location, roomy accommodations, well appointed, very friendly staff, definitely reserve dinner - it's delicious!
- Young-don (8/5): -
- Candace (5/5): The people were lovely but I wouldn’t go there again. - Authentic Japanese accommodation. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although there were plenty of towels available, the bathroom was not clean. Also the room was at the top of a very narrow staircase which was difficult to get our cases up and down.
- Iciar (10/5): - Tot Res
- Akina (9/5): -
- Gabriella (9/5): A beautiful and warm experience in an well preserved warehouse. I would absolutely stay here again! - I loved how calm the entire experience was. All guests were cognizant of other people staying in common areas and how sound travelled in the old building. I loved the breakfast, the bath room, and the amenities in my room. A great touch was the location and reading the history of the building. No private bathroom in my room. But that was negligible since the walk only took 10 seconds.

- Leesa (10/5): Highly recommend! - Beautiful traditional ryoken, conveniently located. Staff were exceptional. Futon beds were extremely comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were amazing - the best dinner that we had in Japan. Clean, beautiful property. Only what is expected in a property of this type, shared bathrooms, some older features in building.
- Timothy (9/5): Well located, family run place, warm atmosphere, very good meals - Excellent
- Adi (10/5): -
- Juelene (10/5): Perfect stay - The whole experience was just amazing. We were a group of 6 travelling together and we all agreed staying here was the best decision we made this holiday. Definitely choose the dinner option if you are wanting an authentic experience - the food and host was perfect. If you are looking for food and accomodation from your westernised home country, this is not for you. Nothing
- Victoria (10/5): Quiet, peaceful, wonderful building and hosts. - Helpful and friendly. Wonderful breakfast!
- Benoît (9/5): -
- Roberta (9/5): A good all round place to stay, with friendly staff, traditional feel and - Traditional feel, good Japanese breakfast and great location for the sights of Matsumoto. Communal area had facilities (fridge/ kettle etc) and teas/snacks. Family room upstairs was a very generous size, especially for Japan. Showers were quite small
- Smanda (7/5): - Breakfast
- FERAS (9/5): Exciting experience with tasty food on offer, comfortable mattresses but with some quirks to the property. - Breakfast was tasty and it was nice to try local food. The serving area was nice and tidy and staff were very kind.
The property had an interesting style to it which was a exciting experience
Futon beds were surprisingly comfortable Our room was on the upper floor, and during our visit, the AC was barely adequate to keep the room warm due to likely no isolation.
More of an inconvenience than a dislike, that some door lintels were quite low and I managed to bump my head a couple of times.
Also, because of the way the property is made, the “old part” is connected to the new part, but because the connection is not enclosed, you technically had to take a step in an exposed area to move from one area to another.
- Benedicte (10/5): -
- Olivier (10/5): Exquisite food - quiet central location - genuinely friendly, very helpful and forthcoming staff. - The staff is authentic, friendly and very helpful. We felt very welcomed at Mitsubikiya. The food and resented is regional and of high standard. The rooms are excellent. The Mitsubikiya is located in a very convenient spot. 9’ walk from the station and the castle. When returning to Matsumoto I will definitely stay there again.
The group room has a playroom which is relaxing and great for playtime with children.
I can wholeheartedly recommend to stay at this place. I have nothing I could think off.
Please be aware that stairs might be a bit steep for some.
- Samanta (10/5): Riokan super - Personale disponibile, accogliente e molto gentile. Tutto pulitissimo. Futon super comodo. Cena Kaiseki deliziosa, colazione giapponese ottima.
- Gillian (9/5): Excellent stay & food at Mitsubikiya - Staff were all extremely welcoming and friendly. We stayed in room Tamo which was really spacious. Excellent shared facilities and breakfast! Would also recommend booking for dinner! It was quite loud in the room when windy outside, but think that’s due to the style of the building!
- Reut (10/5): I’m happy we stayed there - Traditional and cool at the same time, very clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent dinner and breakfast, very nice common space to drink coffee in. Perfect location.

- Robert (10/5): -
- Anna (10/5): - Bardzo miły personel, przepyszne śniadania, przestrzeń wspólna z nieograniczoną ilością kawy i herbaty, pokoje z materacami futon - bardzo wygodne. Dobra lokalizacja
Alles sehr gemütlich, japanisch modern reduziert eingerichtet.
- Alex (10/5): -

- Dominique (9/5): -
- Kathryn (10/5): -
- Isobel (8/5): A lovely, comfortable and accomodating stay in Matsumoto. - Amazing and friendly staff, super homely and comfortable. Dinner was delicious! Somewhat limited facilities due to the age of the property, but this shouldn’t put you off!
- Leigh (10/5): -
- Jorge (9/5): -
- Konstantin (10/5): -
- Melina (9/5): Authentic ryokan experience at the heart of Matsumoto - A truly authentic Ryokan experience, we absolutely loved it! This is a small intimate accommodation with really big rooms. Highly recommend to book the dinner they offer, it is world class!
- Alexis (10/5): -
- Lada (9/5): - Personal, jídlo, postele
- Emilie (10/5): - Lovely old house (stairs won't be ok for everyone).Room was great, dinner and breakfast were amazing. Nothing, it was perfect.
- Eléonore (10/5): - Fantastisk japansk middag/ frukost och mycket trevlig och hjälpsam personal.
- Erika (10/5): -

- Noah (10/5): - Beautiful building with very comfortable rooms. The staff were all very friendly and the food was amazing
- Bridget (9/5): - Spotlessly clean, friendly and kind staff an delicious food! The breakfast was fantastic!
- Michael (10/5): Great location and even greater service - The staff was extremely accommodating, letting us check in early and also holding our luggage while we explored the city. The food was absolutely delicious in an intimate setting.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Lam (10/5): - Friendly staff. Traditional feel and deco. Great location. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Nothing
- Jenny (10/5): - Beautiful old building thoughtfully updated. We stayed in the family room which was 2 large rooms with comfortable, thick futons and private toilet. Shared shower but never a wait to access. Lovely service and beautiful included breakfast. Great walkable location close to lots of restaurants and castle, art museum etc.
- KEI (10/5): -
- Merel (8/5): -
- Kentish (10/5): -
- Giuseppe (10/5): Ryokan storica, struttura bellissima. - Ryokan in edificio storico: bellissima.
- Stephanie (9/5): - Very traditional Japanese experience staying at this wonderful Guest House in Matsumoto. The staff were wonderful very helpful and the food was exceptional. The property is located within walking distance to all the major tourist sites. Our family really enjoyed the experience of staying at this property in Matsumoto. The property is a traditional Japanese property with very thin sliding doors and thin walls making noise carry throughout the property which made it hard with the young family to not disturb other guests. Because we were at the property in January and this is a historical building the property was also a little cold. However the property managers had heaters throughout the property which alleviated the cold temperatures at night.
- Lawrence (9/5): - A very old charming building. Had really good heaters for cold weather. Facilities and rooms where clean. Unfortunately, due to our schedule we didn't get to try breakfast/dinner. They accommodated our very early checkout (5:30 AM).
- Elise (10/5): The whole experience was such a treat, we wished we could have stayed longer. - Best futons. Very private room with lots of storage. Unique character of the building along with an intimate gathering space. The chef made an awesome meal for the six guests present for dinner. Breakfast was also very well-done. The stairs to our room were steep and narrow.
- Alfredo (7/5): -
- KEIICHI (8/5): -
- Erik (10/5): Great stay, outstanding food - Everything was excellent, but what truly stood out was the attentive staff and the exceptional quality of the food. If you're a foodie, this place is a must-stay.
- Aline (8/5): -
- Marie Pierre (9/5): Gorgeous room with private area. - Delicious breakfast with cooked salmon, omelette, rice and tea. Best breakfast ever. Sadly, the evening meal was not available.
The room was lovely , large with traditional bamboo roofing and a large be going across the room. My favourite so far. The mattress could use replacement as I could feel the springs coming through. Didn’t stop me from sleeping like a log though.
- Chad (10/5): -
- Anna (9/5): -
- Monica (10/5): - La cena y el desayuno! Ubicación también muy buena
- Elisa (8/5): A lovely Japanese-styled Inn to stay in when visiting Matsumoto. - The beds were some of the best beds we slept on in all of Japan! The facility is welcoming and homie, and a delightful experience of a Japanese Inn. The food was delicious and varied and very Japanese. The bathing facilities were separated from the room.
- Jane (10/5): - Character of place.
- Andrei (8/5): -
- GUANG XIANG (10/5): -
- Chen Kam (7/5): Cozy room for three of us. Unique experience rather than modern hotel. - Owner was flexible when we requested for earlier breakfast. A bit inconvenient to walk at night to use the shared toilet especially during chilled winter. I was looking for traditional Japanese bath instead of the modern setup.
- Sara (10/5): -
- Kenzo (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and close to the station. Cute old building! One of our travellers is quite tall and travels with a large backpack, and he found the narrow passages a bit difficult to navigate (hit his head a few times). The rest of us were fine!
- Kenzo (10/5): -
- miriamboher (9/5): -
- Lisaloriot (9/5): - Location

Everything was really nice ! The exit light in the bedroom is maybe a bit strong
You may need an eye mask to sleep
- Sabine (10/5): - Amazing place. Traditional yet modern. Food was a highlight. Great beds. We spent a great stay. Our children (7 and 9) were welcomed very well too. Nothing
Rien.
