Guest Reviews
- Kate (10/5): Amazing historic manor and great host - An amazing opportunity to stay in a Latvian Baroque Manor. Fantastic interiors and painted walls, and wonderful.landscape garden with ancient oaks and limes. We especially enjoyed the warm welcome from our exceptional host and information on Latvian life and culture. Thank you very much Nothing not to like. Curtains on window possibly but sleeping masks offered.

- Krista (8/5): I totally suggest it for getting a historical feeling in quiet environment. - Room was clean and cozy. We really enjoyed the park around the property. Breakfast was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was really hot in the room. Since we had our dog with us it was not that comfortable for him. We also missed some more furniture to place our staff on.
- Ilze (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nina (10/5): Exceptional - This place is exceptional. The ground floor and half of the upper floor are a beautiful and very interesting museum about the history of the manor, the other half of the upper floor comprises the rooms for guests. We enjoyed the walks on the vast grounds, but it was also a perfect location for trips to Gauja national park. Many thanks to the staff who keep this historic monument in good shape, you are doing a wonderful job.
- Oskars (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolaas (9/5): Superb - Everything
- Gordon (9/5): Superb - Beautiful, quiet location. Historic house, food was good. There were issues with Wi-Fi, struggle to put through payments.
Maybe fussy but would prefer 2 sleeping pillows.
- Inese (9/5): Superb -
- Phil (10/5): Wonderful experience. - A wonderful opportunity to stay in a museum and in the beautiful grounds. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional. Nothing - all was as described. We would have liked to have breakfast, but had plans for the day and 9am start was a bit late for us.
- Zane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isaac (9/5): Superb -
- Signe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jürgen (10/5): Something really special in a scenic ambience. -
- Vsevolod (8/5): An interesting experience to go back in time 100 years. - A very interesting experience staying in a 100 year old wooden building. Very clean no matter what and the linen is fresh.
The breakfast, served in style, is especially impressive. Great place to walk during the day with a park and several trails. The rooms are in a separate building and not in the main building as shown in the photos. There is no elevator or even a ramp for people with limited mobility or with kids. The bathroom is very small, but has everything you need.
- Katrina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chip (8/5): A charming place right out of the 18th century. - (Note: The property is on an 18th-century manor with a number of buildings, including but not limited to the manor house, a tea house, and a former school; our room was in the last of these. We’re not sure if other buildings also accommodate guests or, if so, how much of our response would apply to them as well. From what we were able to learn, the biggest sources of income for the property are its excellent restaurant and its appeal for big events like wedding receptions.)
This was perhaps our favorite place on the entire trip. Some of the things we liked:
1) The manor is in a pretty forest setting; we could see a small lake through the trees from our window.
2) Our room was extremely large ; it was nice to stretch out. (Maybe others are smaller.)
3) The bed was super-comfortable.
4) The property itself is a real attraction. The former manor house operates as a museum, and there was an art exhibition at the time of our visit. We described the place as "endearingly decrepit"--in ways that did not detract from the enjoyment of the visit. (For example, exterior paint was peeling, but essentials were all kept in good working order.) Throughout our stay we savored the sensation of being immersed in history.
5) The breakfast was stupendous, and when we had to get on the road too early the second day, the kitchen staff prepared a box lunch for us to take with us. 1) The place is quite isolated. This was not a problem for us, and we used it successfully as a base for exploring various locations in Gauja National Park, but it would probably be challenging for someone without a car.
2) The WiF, in the words of the staff member who checked us in, was "poor," and indeed, it did not function any of the many times we tried it during our stay.
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb - We liked the unique location, style, fancy served breakfast :) Not only wifi, but also mobile internet is very poor in the area, so be aware of that
- Erica (9/5): A Special and Historical Hotel - An exceptional property and a good hotel occupying the fascinating museum and the historic house next door to it, where the restaurant is also located. Very quiet and secluded. The restaurant is good, the rooms clean and the staff attentive. We were unable to get any Wi-Fi at all and our mobile signal wasn’t great.
- Julien (10/5): Fantastic stay in history -
- Alfreds (9/5): Superb -
- Olena (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (8/5): Beautiful surroundings - Super nice staff and beautiful surroundings.
The decor of the restaurant was so lovely and the whole place had a nice vibe to it.
Quality food! Wifi did not work at all in our room.
- Kristine (9/5): Fantastic and special place with culture and history - Location excellent, staff fantastic and very hospitable, place - amazing with rich history and culture Breakfast should be improved in terms of offer and variety, having local food would be great
- David (8/5): A little gem - Fabulous. It was wonderful to stay in an historic building and look around the Manor House and grounds. The breakfast was excellent and generous (preordered choices not buffet). No TV which made a nice change. Adequate Wi-Fi - good considering the location. Excellent restaurant on site - must book. Furnishings in keeping with the house.
- Gunta (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was exceptional! So beautiful and tasty. Stuff was very friendly and helpful and place itself very pieceful and almost magical :)
- Dah (8/5): Charming old manor stay. Fabulous hotel restaurant. - The hotel restaurant deserves 6 stars. the dinner and breakfast were really very good. This is a museum cum hotel. Unfortunately, exhibits were not labeled in English.
Room lighting was dim. Wifi was poor, probably due to countryside location of manor.
Heating was not turned on. . Even in July, temperature at night was 14C.
This is a historical manor and should be viewed as such. Not meant to be marketed as a refurbished hotel. Still, there is a certain charm to the place.
- Edgars (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffrey (8/5): Very good - We appreciated the tranquility and natural beauty. And we loved both the breakfasts and dinners.
Also appreciated being in the museum soaking in the past. Thank you. The beds were hard and the room a bit cold.
