- Nicola (9/5): Picturesque little cottage. I could have sat all day out at the views. Typical English garden with a country side atmosp - Lovely little cottage, beautiful flowers all around
Clean, comfortable and cosy..peaceful Nothing everything was fab 👌
- jane (10/5): - Beautiful cottage with amazing views, the host was very helpful with our check in request. The cottage is in a very quiet location and has everything for a perfect stay.
- Katy (8/5): -
- Roger (10/5): Roger's view - Unique, snug little one bed cottage, imaginatively and sensitively converted by owner who lives next door. Fabulous view. Perfect for a romantic getaway for two. Nothing, but it is located high above the village amenities, hence the views
- Julia (8/5): - Very quiet with a fantastic view The stairs are very challenging for older people and the parking was a bit awkward when unloading and loading
- Holly (9/5): Lovely dog-friendly stay in the Peak District - Host asked us what time we'd arrive, and then met us outside with the keys. Really appreciated that! The house was clean and comfortable and the location was absolutely perfect - lots of nice walks on the doorstep, as well as a short drive away. It was very peaceful so we both (and the dog!) had a great sleep. Would highly recommend to a couple/solo traveler with a pet.
- Terence (8/5): An unusual and interesting house with a fantastic view. - No breakfast. Amazing location. It wasn't luxurious but that was not what we were wanting.
- Carrie (10/5): What a beautiful find - Lovely host with such a warm welcome to a gorgeous property. Great communication ahead of arriving too. The property is just stunning. A very quiet road easy to park on with a very short walk to the gate. Very comfy settee and bed. Gorrrrrrgeous views. Really was a lovely stay.
- Claire (10/5): Stunning view from a beautiful property - The view was stunning, property had everything we needed. Bed was lovely and comfortable. Didn't use the cooking facilities but had oven, hob and microwave that were all lovely and clean. Only things that I can think was no place to park car but on street parking was fine, no issues with traffic etc. Steps up to the property were a little slippy when it rained but theres a hand rail to help
- Joanne (10/5): - The view was stunning and the property was in a perfect place to explore the Peak District.
- Md Hamim (10/5): -
- Kay (8/5): A small, cosy property in an idilic setting, clean and comfortable, well worth a visit. - The location amazing, quiet and peaceful. Short trip to nearest towns etc. A few local pubs with great locals.
A bath which is a big plus for us 😊 Not a didn’t like but could do with:
-a few more utensils eg wooden spoons, vegetable peeler, smaller knives for chopping, large serving spoons etc
-large bowls for mixing, oven trays, washing up bowl, dustpan and brush.
-black out blinds for the bedroom
-some form of lighting for the steps outside, as tricky to navigate in the dark
-a shower attachment for rinsing hair
These would have made our stay a little better but would not stop a return visit.
- Eliza (9/5): A charming stay with a wonderful and understanding host. - The location was a little tricky to find, but the host was very communicative and waited outside so I could find the place. I was delayed by a few hours but he was perfectly understanding. The view was spectacular and the house was spotless. The stairs can be a little tricky if you aren't being careful, but otherwise fine.
- Gener (9/5): simoly amazing - amazing view of Matlock from the apartment none
- Nicola (8/5): - The property was clean, the bed comfy and the views were fantastic. Nothing. It's an old property so probably not suitable for those with limited mobility but I found it perfectly fine and enjoyed the quirkiness of it. Without the steps up the views wouldn't have been half as good.
- Delves (8/5): -
- David (8/5): - Clean and comfortable accommodation, well located for exploring some of the major attractions in the Peak District. A very welcoming host. A very clean and modern bathroom; but it lacks a shower. The kitchen lacked a few essentials for anyone wishing to prepare anything other than basic meals.
- Goonery (9/5): Great views - The location for the south of the peak District is fantastic. Buxton and Bakewell within easy reach. Parking on the road wasn't ideal. The steep steps up to the house were challenging. Not for those with heart or lung problems! The kitchen utensils need an overhaul.
- Natália (10/5): Very comfortable house with a beautiful view - Very beautiful house, super comfortable room and full kitchen.
- Andrew (10/5): -
- gennaro (10/5): Eccezionale - Tutto
- richard (7/5): Comfortable stay with wonderful views - We loved the quiet , picturesque location.
Spotlessly clean throughout.
Great to see some original features in this 18h century house.
A perfect house for a couple for a couple of days.
Great host and communication.
- Katey (8/5): -
- wendy (10/5): We totally loved it thank you - The view, the area and the cosiness Parking that's all!
- Leigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Butler (9/5): Superb -
- Cecilia (10/5): Great host, very private property and immaculate. -
- Andy (8/5): I was just there for a one night 'retreat'. Would have wanted a few extra comforts if staying longer - Superb location with beautiful views. 17th century cottage Pretty little suntrap of a garden to sit in at front. Nice pieces of antique furniture. Milk in fridge. No shower. Slight musty smell downstairs. Proper woodburner would have been nice instead of electric imitation. No pictures or decorative features on walls. A little extra like some locally made biscuits or cake would have been a welcoming treat.
- Andy (10/5): Lovely place to be - Beautiful location up on the hillside in Darley Dale, wonderful views across the dale, a nice old stone built property, perfect for solo travellers or couples, shops, pubs restaurants all within walking distance as well as an old steam railway in the bottom of the valley. Nice private garden with a bench to sit out on.
- Deborah (10/5): Excellent resting place after an exhausting day in the peaks, I will return for sure - Lovely place tucked away, quiet and very comfortable If I were being nit picking I would say it could do with a smart tv and a drop of milk in the fridge but that’s really nit picking, for the price there really is nothing not to like
- Patricia (10/5): Great rural location close to all facilities and town of Matlock and the surrounding Peak District - Excellent location and views. Surprisingly spacious for one bed house . Owner very friendly and helpful and very tolerant of our breaking a mug and accidentally taking their umbrella. We will return it Nothing that we didn’t like but would have preferred a shower rather than bath . The stairs to the bedroom are steep so you do need to take care especially if you are tall
- Katie (9/5): Beautiful surroundings - Lovely views, perfect for what we wanted.
- Kayleighmason17 (10/5): Cosy cottage base for Derbyshire Dales Adventure - Cosy, clean and well-maintained cottage with good access to nearby attractions. Grateful to find somewhere as a base for our long weekend away where we could bring our dog with us ^_^ Took a little adjustment to get used to the half step in / out of the bathroom, but can't be helped with the age of the property
- Jan (10/5): Lovely and peaceful - Beautiful location and a great clean base would definitely recommend
- Lindsey (8/5): We had a lovely stay thankyou - It was in a lovely village. Nice and private
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was built in 1736 and has been renovated to a high standard.
It was spotlessly clean.
The bedroom. Is very large with an extremely comfortable bed and stunning views across a valley.
The kitchen is small but exquiped with the essentials.
The heating was excellent.
Parrking, is on the street, but since the street is only used by local residents, this was not problematic. There isn't a showerr - the bathroom is located underneath the sloped roof. However it has a bath instead. This made for a nice change.
- Julie (8/5): Peaceful Abbeville - Beautiful and peaceful cottage, great for relaxing 😌 The stairs were a major issue for me, big open drop to left and slippy.
- Lavinia (7/5): Good - The view was amazing bed and mattress comfy. Lights in lounge very bight lamp would have been good
We took our own pillows and were glad one one each
Supplied.. And only one bedside lamp two would be
Preferable.
- Michele (10/5): Great cottage, fabulous views - Cosy, compact and everything you could possibly need.... Scenery was fabulous. The stairs, took a few attempts to get used to but by the end of our 24 hr stay we had mastered them
- Kay (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, friendly welcome, beautiful views and quirky mix of antique furniture.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Beverley (10/5): Glorious accommodation and views. - It was just what I needed. I was in Derbyshire to meet friends. It was a great overnight stay. Cosy cottage with plenty of room.
- Marley (10/5): Hidden gem with an incredible view - Lovely little spot, we were out for a weekend of hiking was perfect! Meet us at the front door and showed us around, excellent host!
- Su (10/5): Lovely cottage with great views, very clean with friendly host - Very clean and well furnished in lovely location delightful place to stay Nothing
- Madison (9/5): Superb - Absolutely beautiful cottage in a beautiful location, the view was stunning. The owner was very kind and helpful and the property was extremely clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a lovely breakfast in the morning too! Only ‘complaint’ was that there was only 1 pillow each, we would have preferred some extras but it really was not that big of a deal.
- Mark (7/5): Good value clean compact accomodation - The garden could have been grassed rather than earth beds which would have been better for the dogs.
A handheld shower attachment on the bath tap would have made washing hair easier and a non-slip mat in the bath would aid safely getting in and out.
- David (10/5): Peace and serenity in a comfy cottage in Derbyshire - Very roomy and comfortable cottage. Good sized lounge and a huge bedroom both with lovely views. An extremely peaceful location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thought it might be an idea to put in the stairwell somewhere a battery operated night light (if there is such a thing ?) for those who need to use the loo in the dark of night.
- Peter (9/5): Peaceful place in great location - quiet, peaceful with great local walk. no shower. just a bath with limited head room.
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning views. Nice and quiet for my dog. Really comfy and clean and nice and warm. Nothing
- Stewart (6/5): Pleasant - Lovely place but it was very cold had to sleep on the floor next to the little heater So cold you could see your breath upstairs
- Sonia (8/5): Lovely little cottage for a weekend break - Lovely little cottage with fabulous views and everything you needed. The over use of air fresheners. The smell was over powering and gave us both headaches. On looking, we found four brand new neutrodol deodorisers in the lounge, two in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. We ended up removing them, putting them outside and leaving the door and windows open to disperse the smell.
- Matt (9/5): Perfect Rural Retreat - Really comfortable house, everything almost new Could have done with a lamp in the lounge, and curtains in the bedroom
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - Lovely views, peaceful location. Shame the trees and shrubs at the bottom of the garden were very overgrown which blocked some of the view from the garden seating area.
- Gemma (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (9/5): thank you - clean and quiet no shower
- Patricia (8/5): Nice stay view amazing. - Breakfast not applicable
Location nice but I would take some of your own food if you want a glass of wine and relax Unfortunately no shower only a bath.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wilcox (7/5): Good - Very clean and comfortable, beautiful location with the most stunning views. Smelt very fusty and had a very steep, narrow path up to the cottage. The stairs in the cottage were also very steep.
- Robert (8/5): Andrew was very welcoming and guided me to the property. Lovely cottage. Fantastic view. -
- Megan (9/5): Superb -
- Alicja (10/5): Very peaceful and relaxing just what I was looking for - The cottage has been beautifully renovated
very clean, a very comfortable bed, kitchen well equipped. 15mins to Chatsworth and Bakewell and lovely walks. Nothing
- Mandy (6/5): Property not bad aside from heating, stairs and outside issues including parking. - Good views from property but no indication as to whether it was in a village location or semi isolated Steep access with steps and pathway up to property (not specified). Grab rail to one side was overgrown with foliage in places, mainly holly. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems, visual impairment or young children. I'd anticipated the parking to be closer to the property. Steep winding staircase from kitchen to upstairs deep drop from bedroom to first step below. Lots of things of this nature simply not disclosed in property description. Heater in living room only, no access to heating in bedroom. We arrived on an increasingly damp and cold afternoon and bedroom area could have done with a brief flick on of the radiator to air the place but that was all under owners control ie nothing we could do about it. Small garden gate needed between Abbeville and next door to make it fully enclosed and dog friendly. Few wood lice knocking about (kitchen mainly). Not a particular worry to me but may be to others.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Holly (9/5): A lovely clean cottage with superb views. - N/A
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and convenient
- Angela (8/5): Enjoyed it - Quaint and clean The stairs are dangerous
- Heather (9/5): Lovely old cottage with amazing views - Beautiful location with amazing views.
The bed and sofa are both really comfortable.
Friendly and helpful host. Very strange not to have a shower. Thought that was standard these days.
The stairs are very steep and uneven. I imagine someone with mobility issues would struggle.
The cottage is lovely but really needs a a few pictures or bookshelves to make it feel more homely.
- Wonderland (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (10/5): Stunning stay in the Peak District in a fabulous cottage. - We loved the setting and the cottage - it had been beautifully renovated - it was quiet and had everything we needed. Maybe a shower head over the bath could be added.
- Georgie (10/5): Exceptional - Owner went above and beyond to make our stay as special as possible A shower within the bathroom would make it 11/10
- Patricia (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay. - The cottage has amazing views across the valley. It has been thoughtfully updated and decorated, and is spotlessly clean. The pretty garden is well tended. Although small, the kitchen has everything we needed. We were met by Andrew on arrival and shown where everything was. Parking is available on the quiet road outside. The stairs across the bathroom entrance have two steps at different levels, which some people might not like.
- Andy (10/5): Perfect for a mini break, great views and lots of nice walks for us and the dogs - Perfect location
Very clean and comfortable Nothing
- Lydia (10/5): Set within a beautiful front, private garden. - Very comfortable bed.
Quiet location.
Amazing views. The stairs needed full concentration as they were tricky to negotiate due to their positioning.
- Kaeli (10/5): undersold. perfect location. stunning views and very clean and comfortable property. - gorgeous location. clean and well equipped. stunning views not a problem for me but there is no shower which may be a problem for others.
- Kevin (7/5): Basic but comfortable. For us dog friendly was a requirement, so good for a short break. - Very quiet location away from the busy main road with views across the dale. The lounge furniture was very comfortable, bed very comfortable, kitchen and contents adequate. Car parking a problem, had to park some distance from the cottage to be safe as the location is on a single track lane. Cottage is set on a steep bank so access path is also steep as a consequence. Stairs may be a problem for some. Treads and risers are of different widths and heights. More worryingly is a half-landing/very wide tread which partly spans the bathroom door with a step up into the bathroom, needs to be negotiated with care.
- Rebecca (8/5): Charming period cottage in wonderful countryside, amazing views across the valley. - The views from the bedroom were wonderful, with a gorgeous old-fashioned wooden chair conveniently placed to gaze at them all day. Wonderful old fashioned country garden going down from the house. Period furniture throughout. Very helpful host.
- Becca (9/5): Great place, pleasant hosts - Property was really easy to find and in a beautiful location. Just what I wanted There was no extractor in the kitchen, so cooking was fun, but the smoke alarm works well
- Keith (7/5): Good -
- Siân (8/5): Restful and relaxing - Location and very clean
Close to amenities
Quiet Na
- Louise (9/5): Mini break - Cosy and comfortable, ideal for a short stay. The garden and view were beautiful. A lovely quiet base for exploring. The sloping ceiling in the bathroom over the bath was a little awkward, you had to mind your head but such a minor inconvenience can be managed by being careful.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb - Nice location friendly host dog friendly excellent value for money NA
- Catalina (9/5): Great little cottage with amazing views - Lovely holiday home, very comfortable and really lovely inside, clean sheets and great furniture. The views are incredible. Also, the host was really lovely and even left milk in the fridge for tea. During the night, the heating was off and it got quite cold.
- Helen (9/5): Superb - Accommodation was lovely, in a beautiful part of the country. Bed was very comfy and views great to look out on. Walking distance to local pub for food. Mouldy teabags in cupboard!
- Rosamunde (8/5): A nice, quiet house with lovely views. - The host was very friendly and made me feel welcome. The house was clean, and the views from the front were lovely. I loved the large bedroom and the very comfortable bed. The living room could do with some low lighting and perhaps some rugs to make it feel a little more homely and relaxing. It also smelled a little damp. I found the overhead lights a little harsh for when you want to relax in the evening. Also, the stairs were extremely steep and a little difficult. I had to take great care coming down the stairs - they could do with a rail, and perhaps a warning in the description. The steps up to the property were also quite steep!
- Mikebrockhurst (9/5): Superb - Host was there. Nowt, all good.
- Teresa (4/5): We took one look & didn’t stay. Paid for accommodation elsewhere. - Clean. We went to the property, with the intention of staying, but we didn’t stay. It was advertised with parking, but there was none at the property. We were advised to park down the road on a junction & I just wasn’t comfortable with that.
I didn’t like the painted stairs, with no bannister & to me I found the stairs slippy & dangerous.
I’m asthmatic & found the place smelt foisty & made me wheeze. So all in all it wasn’t for us.
I thought the owner might have contacted us, he had my mobile number, to find out why we didn’t stay, but we didn’t hear anything from him, which I think is bad manners. He was happy to take full payment & not ask why we weren’t happy.
- Colin (10/5): Super chilling location - The location and the tranquility. Nothing
- Katie (9/5): A lovely cottage in a beautiful area, perfect for a mini break! - A lovely cottage in a beautiful location with stunning views. Friendly, helpful host. Good facilities - lovely modern kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom is lovely and comfy and looks out over a beautiful valley. Great value for money. The lounge felt a bit bare and dated compared to the rest of the cottage (but it didn’t really matter as we were out most of the time!). Proper wifi in the cottage would be a helpful touch.
- Peter (9/5): Lovely cottage. Great value. Relaxing stay - Comfy bed. Great value. Lovely view. Decor new and complimented age of cottage No washing machine or shower
- Judith (9/5): Enjoyed our 2 night stay and look forward to staying longer next time. - Lovely views from exceptionally large bedroom. Plenty of room in living area for our large dog. A few more kitchen utensils would be useful.
- Linda (9/5): Great place to stay and the view from the bedroom was amazing. A good base to explore the Peaks. - The antique furniture in the house was great. Nothing.
- Freya (9/5): Superb -
- Ruby (9/5): Superb - The bedroom has gorgeous views, is lovely and light and the bed was comfy. Our host was very friendly and helpful. It was clean and comfortable. Just needs a few more accessories and it would be 10/10
- Peter (9/5): Very satisfied - Very lovely location, pretty accommodation
- Neale (9/5): Great location, comfortable, very clean and peaceful - Location was perfect, very clean and comfortable, well equipped, owner very helpful Would have been nice to see the beautiful views from the garden, but obscured by high shrubs
- Sharon (10/5): Absolutely fabulous. - The cottage was exactly what I needed for my stay. Nothing.
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (10/5): Wonderful, fantastic, totally relaxing. - This was my second visit and it was just as fantastic as the first. If you want peace, relaxation, beauty inside the property and spectacular views outside, plus being spoilt for choices for walking, then this is the place for you.
- David (8/5): Comfortable cottage a short drive from Matlock. Outstanding views - New property spacious living room and bedroom Nothing
