- Bell (10/5): - Nice quaint little place not far from.town center, lovely staff nice people nice bar and Indian restraunt
- Chris (10/5): Perfect night away - Great location and facilities
- Dawn (7/5): - 15 min flat walk to town centre/Selby Abbey Crisp white bedding would be better than dark colour bedding, for the hotel experience .
- neil (10/5): -
- Mike (8/5): Will stay again if back in the U.K - room was excellent re the size of the bed, the large bath tub for the wife and the modern shower.
Tea supplied, awesome. room is above the pub downstairs, very noisy up to mid night.
- Gayle (10/5): Lovely overnight stay - Had everything we needed for an overnight stay Na
- Lucy (9/5): Fantastic value! - Lovely room, really clean and very welcoming.
- Mary (8/5): On a budget Fantastic value for money - Close to Selby great value for money
- Peter (8/5): -
- Andrew (6/5): - Everything clean, good restaurant downstairs three bros Bit noisy till 10:30pm from bar directly under room, bed wasn't the best, 2 singles pushed together different heights and different types of mattresses
- Joanne (10/5): Very comfy and warm room. - Very clean lovely big room great bathroom loved the little sensor light in bathroom. Staff was great very accommodating. Excellent location lovely 15 min walk into town. Would definitely recommend 🤗 Very clean
- Kate (5/5): Did the job but wouldn't stay again im afraid. - convenient for the party we were attending The bed was uncomfortable, mattress definitely needs replacing. Room was far too hot with heating on all night. Resulted in a very sleepless night. The bath/shower in the actual room was also odd...as friends sharing we had to give each other privacy by going to the toilet ha ha. Even a shower curtain or privacy screen on the glass might of helped.
- Helen (9/5): Would stay again - Clean and comfortable. Toiletries. Shower lovely and warm. Bed cozy. Views are wonderful. Easy to walk into Selby All good
- Pete (9/5): -
- daniel (10/5): -
- Angie (1/5): Worst one ever - No breakfast, location fine We had no sleep. Party downstairs going on,
people shouting and swearing, went downstairs spoke to bar staff at 1am
( second time we had to complain, 1st
time children running past our room screaming and shouting, 2nd. time at 1am were promised noise would all stop at at 1:30 am, music stopped
but people outside gathered shouting and swearing til 4:30 am, the worst
stay of anywhere for us and we've booked thro Booking.com a few times
We were exhausted and had a more than 2 hour drive back home, went straight to bed to catch up. Please check your properties out more thoroughly, the unicorn is a pub, we didn't realise there may be problems
when we booked. We'd attended a family get-together that afternoon which was very nice, all the noise problems were in the evening
- Daniel (1/5): -
- Helen (6/5): You get what you pay for! - Room was quite spacious, nice meal in adjoining Indian restaurant Noise from bar area - loud music, kept us awake until 2am.
- Robert (8/5): Great value -

- Schenade (7/5): - Easy parking.. nice room . Close to town
- Edwards (8/5): It was good for a night - Room was a good size and comfy bed There was no TV remote but had a tv on the wall
- Katie (6/5): Lovely rooms just a bit chilly - We stayed in room 6. Very clean and comfortable and staff friendly. The room was pretty cold when we arrived. We turned on the thermostat but find it to not be warming up. The main radiator in the room didn’t work and the only source of heat was from the towel rail in the bathroom. It was very cold and we all slept in a jumper and extra layers. Also TV remote didn’t work. Minor point but would have been nice
- Wendy (9/5): - Close to town,quiet,comfortable. Breakfast would be a bonus.
- Alan Williams (8/5): - Comfortable beds Sheets and pillow cases could do with up grading
- Mark (7/5): - Friendly staff, great parking for a motorcycle, good location and plenty of tea and coffee but take your own milk. The room was nice had all i needed for a short stay No food served on a Monday same as most the town
Bathroom door was broken down sensor light cane on and off most the night. Wind was high whistling through the bathroom vent at times
- Roy (10/5): -
- Parker (9/5): - Spacious room, nice and warm. Loved the quilt and bed was comfortable. Secure entrance and parking.Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice pub and Indian restaurant below , the food there was brilliant and huge portions. The only thing I did not like was the bathroom door / though slight privacy screen on glass of the door I felt slightly exposed. Good thing we been together a while and not shy around one another.
- Nigel (10/5): Hidden little Gem this place, definitely be back - Everything, spacious room, lovely bathroom, car parking, nice Bar
- Natalie (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Mark (9/5): - Great facilities & in a good location
- Robyn (1/5): -
- Geoffrey (9/5): A very enjoyable stay. - We loved the room with a huge bath. The Bar below was great, and we enjoyed a few drinks also.
- Matt (7/5): - Nice comfortable room Toilet door didn"t shut
- Ian (8/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): Huge bed - The bed was super huge and comfortable.
- Andrea (2/5): Poor. - Close to town centre . Good Indian restaurant . Chaotic . Rooms not made up . TV remote didn’t work and staff mentioned it had been like it for a week. Window didn’t close and was cold . No one around to address this with .
- Yorkshire Mason (8/5): Good but no breakfast - Refurbished rooms. Sadly, no breakfast and no staff around.
- Danail (9/5): Good budget choice - Clean room and comfortable bed. No issues at all
- Simone (3/5): - Room size was good Difficulty with check in. Room hadn't been cleaned properly, chips on floor. Couldn't use TV and travelling with a child. Dirty glasses left in room for use.
- christine (10/5): -
- jude (8/5): -
- peter (8/5): - Nice room with decent bed and duvet. Staircase up needs carpet hoovering (and cleaning as well, to be honest).
- Chris (10/5): lovely stay and good value for money - we wanted somewhere just outside of York and for a reasonable price bingo the Unicorn was perfect good value lovely big room with modern facilities staff where very friendly we got there a little early and the lady behind the bar kept our bags and later put them in the room for us while we was out would 100% stay there again
- Sandra (9/5): - Very friendly staff. The room was a good size, clean and the bed was comfortable. Will stay there again.
- SJ Byrne (4/5): False advertising throughout. - Easy check out experience. we stayed on a Saturday night, reviews online and on booking.com said that music stopped at 11pm (also confirmed on google) but the license is until 1am and the room was physically vibrating. Lady behind the bar was rude to my partner when he went down to ask when the thumping music would be turned off. If we knew this we wouldn’t have stayed. We don’t mind some music but until 1am that’s false advertising.
Shower constantly dripped water from the temperature tap and was freezing cold.
- Becky (8/5): -
- Sam (1/5): - Failed to respond to any contact on my expected day of arrival leading to me having to find alternate accommodation. Really poor form £60 and no access to a room. Find yourself somewhere else to stay, don’t book here.
- John (8/5): Clean and comfortable room - Pleasant staff, sufficient parking and comfortable bed No breakfast provided, had to go into Selby town centre for that.
- Melanie (7/5): -
- Williams (9/5): Lovely little spot - Room, location Poor signage to reception from carpark
- Jones (10/5): As good as the last time - Clean and polite
Fantastic Asian restaurant downstairs Wardrobe doors rattle in room 1 whenever someone goes down the stairs. However a bit of loo roll wedged in them ensured a good night sleep
- Dougie (8/5): -
- mark (7/5): -
- Teresa (7/5): The unicorn - Good location. Nice that there was a bar and indian restaurant below accommodation. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful Bed was too soft and duvet exceptional heavy, so he made it uncomfortable although husband slept well, apart from the road noise.
Could have been cleaner. Windowsill was filthy, and the shower screen was scummy. Also, there was no bin in the room. And no coffee, only coffee sachets with milk, but for someone who doesn't drink milk, i was left with having to find a costa. Also, it was a shame that there was no breakfast offered. Also very noisy doors when other guests came and left.
- Stephen (7/5): Good for a short stopover. - Rooms are above the pub, but quiet and with a separate secure entrance. Clean and comfortable. No food available (but I knew this when booking). There are places to eat in the town centre about half a mile away.
- shaun (10/5): - Everything
- John (9/5): Excellent village pub & restaurant - The restaurant within the Pub was excellent, well set up and managed very well.
Rooms were set up a very good standard clean and tidy, large bathroom with a bath. Good transport links for motorways and train stations.
Free car parking was a bonus! Nothing
- Gemma (9/5): A fantastic overnight stay - Thanks! - The Unicorn in Selby - the accommodation was great, the staff were friendly and welcoming, The Three Bros Ltd curry house located on site was superb, Jay and the team were very friendly & the curry was amazing!! TV in our room didn't work
One of the beds in the twin room - the mattress needs replacing
- Claudia (9/5): Comfortable room and nice staff - Quiet location in a beautiful little town.
It is great for a few nights' stay.
The rooms are of a good size and very clean.
We also liked the pub and the outside areas.
- Ian (10/5): Comfortable and clean - Price, plenty of free parking spaces, quiet location No issues and would gladly stay there again
- Stuart (8/5): A nice stay, would definitely use The Unicorn again. - The room was excellent. Big comfy bed, nice sized bathroom with a good shower, a free standing bath and a large wall mounted TV. The bar downstairs is nice with an Indian restaurant within the pub itself. There is a large car park which is to the rear of the pub. It would be nice to have some kind of of breakfast with having to go straight to work. Even if there was a self service area with yogurt, cereal etc. The pub is also on a main road which was a little noisy.
- Alan (10/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): -
- Felicity (9/5): -
- Julie (5/5): Room 2 needs new mattresses & bedding! - The room itself was fine however the bed wasn't comfy and had a huge dip (I had a room with two singles - both beds were same) and the bedding itself appeared old and worn. The bedsheets were uncomfortable and bobbly and the pillows very lumpy, I ended up sleeping on top of one of the quilts to make it comfier.
The room was also quite warm so having the window open made it difficult to sleep as there was constant road noise and also talking from people leaving the pub downstairs.
- Shuttleworth (4/5): Meh - Staff were friendly when checking in and lovely location Towels and bedding smelled foisty like they’d been washed and not dried properly so smelled damp and gross.
- Aleksandr (8/5): -
- Chris (9/5): -
- Nick Hawkyard (7/5): - Convenient location. Value for mohey
- Ruth (7/5): Nice room but some facilities not in fact available - Very clean, comfortable room with the quirky and fun addition of a huge bathtub! Helpful staff and handy, good Indian restaurant at the back of the pub. Had to ask for towels as someone had forgotten them. TV remote apparently needs new batteries. Wifi didn't appear on my phone search so presumably an issue. For one night the last two didn't matter much but...
- Karolynne (8/5): A beautiful room with a great restaurant downstairs. - A beautiful room above a restaurant and pub about ten minutes walk out of Selby. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room had everything we needed. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the Three Brothers restaurant downstairs, the quality of the food and price was really good. The huge bath in our deluxe room was lovely. We'd definitely come back to stay again. We opened the window in the bedroom in the evening when we arrived as it was a warm day but unfortunately we were directly above the outdoor smoking area for the bar and restaurant so ended up closing it.
- Eileen (6/5): Pleasant - Good location. Very good price so didn't expect too much but would have been nice to be cleaner. Only stayed for 2 nights. Wouldn't want to stay any longer.
A suggestion would be to include breakfast in next door restaurant. Could charge a bit more then. Room not very clean. Toilet dirty no toilet rolls. towels far too small and very damp. Wasn't impressed with bath in room not screened off. Not really suitable for a family.
- Lorraine (3/5): Very poor - Very disappointed with this hotel. Shower was boiling hot and wouldn't turn down. Room was poor bedding all screwed up and the towels if I was able to use the shower were no bigger than hand towels which also smelt damp. I was here with family and booked 3 rooms every room had issues. I would avoid this hotel Nobody cared they just take your money. They have the opportunity to have a good place with a bit of effort
- Paul (1/5): Horrible - Room was dirty(toilet filthy). Towels stunk 2 high heaven. Then no hot water second day, then was resolved. Wld never go again Cannot contact anyone. Tried 2 ring the number on your website. Only got voicemail
- Kim (8/5): Very good - The place was very clean and tidy staff were great The shower in the room was a bit strange but very thing was good apart from that
- Derek (9/5): Good value comfortable accommodation in Selby - Easy, friendly check in. Seperate door to access accommodation. Comfortable room with good shower. Plenty of free parking. Good value. Some minor sounds could be heard from the pub/restaurant below. But that is only to be expected and would not stop me staying again.
- Erica (5/5): Not as expected - Nice big room, comfy bed and bathroom. Facing the road and a field. Plenty of parking. Expected the room with a bath In as I booked but was given a different one. No fire exit plan or emergency info in room, or any local info. Taxi card left on landing no good as the number had changed. Big massive dirty cobwebs in room (pic posted) and bathroom, although surfaces were clean. No info what to do with room access card on leaving so I asked another guest who told me where to leave it. Scant info given by staff when we arrived. I booked this place as it advertised 4 real ales on the bar, but on going down for a drink found that none were on so we got an uber into selby. Wouldn’t stay there again
- Michael (7/5): Good - The room was lovely, lots of space and very comfortable, with views over open fields. It was next to a road, but it was quiet. The only option for food was Indian, and there were no facilities for breakfast.
- Taylar (9/5): Superb - Was very good for the price
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (7/5): Good - Nice stay. The room was clean. No breakfasts available at the property but it is only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Selby. Lots of parking. It did get a little noisy at night but our room was overlooking the car park and bar entrance.
- Tony (8/5): Very good - Loved the bath in the room, also it's in an excellent location. Very cheap for what you get. The bed was two divans put together it should be one super king mattress instead.
- Booth (6/5): Strange but true - The bar staff and cleaners were very friendly. We didn't like having the bath actually in the bedroom, I don't need to see my sister in law having a shower, a shower curtain could easily be fitted to give some degree of privacy.
The duvet was awful, big lumpy thing that wouldn't spread evenly no matter how much we tried to shake it out, nothing at the sides or top but big thick parts in the middle.
There were what looks like round, wrapperless, chocolates in the bedside drawer. We didn't touch them. Forgot to mention that to the cleaners..
- Jane (9/5): A great short stay! - Clean and modern with everything you’d need for a short stay. Easy and free car parking was a bonus. Brilliant Indian restaurant on site as well. Nothing
- Elaine (10/5): Excellent - Very friendly and helpful staff Nothing
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Suzanne (6/5): Unicorn review June 25 - Modern clean room I love a hot shower, but this was too hot and dangerous to use meaning we couldn't use it
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
