Guest Reviews
- jayaE9780WW (2/5): Tired, old room with damaged windows. No staff available - I've been staying in Premier Inns for over a decade. This was the worst experience of any I've stayed in.
Confusing entrance to begin - the Google Map listing takes you to the main street it's listed on. You get to the door and it tells you to walk 200m back the way you've come and go down a poorly sign posted side street. Not ideal when arriving late and carrying luggage.
No one manning reception and after waiting for 5 minutes I ended up checking myself in. Despite checking in 8pm, the corridors were full with cleaning trollies and dirty bedding. These were still there the following morning too.
Room itself was tired and worn - black marks in and around the bath. Soap dispenser has started to rust. Mirror damaged and scuffed. Window latch completely broken, cold air draughts all night.
Worst part was the air con / temp control didn't work. Around midnight it started making a loud clicking noise every so often, so loud that it woke me up. With no way to turn it off I went to reception to request a new room - no one on reception. I called the buzzer, no one came, so I went back to the room and tried to sleep with air plugs in.
Overall a 1/5 experience and not something I've ever experienced in any other Premier Inn. Terrible and wouldn't stay again
- J9557XOlaurat (4/5): Location good, room condition not so good! - The location was about the only thing I could say was good. It’s right next to the train station and about a 10 minute walk from the shops in York centre. Overall room wise, the roof seemed to be leaking above the window, there were big cracks on the walls, the start of mould on the ceilings in bathroom and above window, the tv had marks on, a cup had a mark on, the shower seemed kind of grubby and had some hairs, the sink had beard hairs around it, the floor around the toilet had flakes of paint, the shower curtain had a broken curtain ring and was hanging weird, the shower and bath water control was also not working correctly and there were cobwebs above and behind the toilet door. It felt like the cleanliness wasn’t priority for the rooms and the state of it with dust and lack of hoovering also just made you think what else had been missed!! Also I paid £290 for 2 nights which I think is quite a lot to be met with that condition of a room.
- emilyfU6264VM (2/5): Worst premier inn EVER! Damp & mouldy - Upon arriving into the hotel room (we stayed in the minster building across from reception) we where hugely disappointed in the room as we found mould growing up the corners of the walls, all the silver lamps where brown from damp & the pillows where yellow. When we went back to the reception to report this they told us they where fully booked so we couldn’t be moved and they know about the damp & mould but there’s nothing they can do! She even said “these rooms shouldn’t be sold I’m sorry” & “we’ve been handing these complaint cards out like hot cakes”, we called head office for a refund and will be reporting this to trading standards, this is not okay!!!
- V4275EWbillyp (10/5): Lovely weekend stay! - I stayed for a couple of days while visiting a friend living in the area. The staff were lovely and welcoming! The room was of the high standard you would expect from a Premier Inn and I will be returning again soon.
- andrewsJ8012UX (2/5): Bad experience - I don’t think premier inn will like this review staff were terrible when I raised a complaint not interested in other words car parking a absolute rip off stayed less then 24 hours and charged for 48 hours in all costing £30.staff not interested when I raised a complaint.
- EddyoS (4/5): Poor experience - Good location near station, service poor, and there is no lift, after a long journey you must bring your heavy luggage up to 3rd floor and hope hotel staff to help…….😰
- rebeccafK3065KU (4/5): Run down and not the usual premier inn standard - This is possibly the worst premier inn I've ever stayed in. We were originally.allocsted a room on the 3rd floor in the next that doesn't have a lift. On entering the room there was a strong smell of poo (not sure if it was drains or something else!). It was also freezing cold in the room. We went to reception and the lovely lady moved us to a ground floor room. Still in same building and that was much better.
I must say that the cleaning wasn't to the normal standards I would normally expect at premier inn and also the rooms were quite run down.
Good thing is it's location and 10 to 15.min walk into town
Probably wouldn't stay again
- Sunshine56621486354 (2/5): Filthy room, very noisy air conditioning, very poor information about the need to book a meal in advance, poor staff - The air conditioning sounded like it was
a loud fish tank, the fan in the bathroom was very loud, the room was very poorly maintained. Not told we had to book a meal deal to get any dinner, so no food after 5 hour drive. Family room booked, not enough beds, and then no-one on the desk to give us a parking voucher when we left so now received a parking fine! Then when we try to call the hotel to sort out the parking situation, 5 minutes getting past the automated receptionist to no answer from anyone. Really not surprised as the staff were not helpful and everything was too much trouble. Awful experience, wouldn’t ever stay there again.
- SandraH4143 (6/5): Give breakfast a miss - Room was fine, what you would expect. The corridors however were dark, dingy and dirty, our first impressions were that it seemed like some dodgy, seedy establishment. Thankfully the room was clean. Breakfast was poor, food items not well spaced, large queues. Food was not replaced when empty and this was frequent as only a few items were brought out at a time. Visitors had to look for staff and ask them if more food could be brought out as there was nothing left and this was early on, before the end of the breakfast period so not like people had left it to the last minute. What was available was of a very limited choice. I definitely would not recommend the breakfast, you will find much better value in town.
- tmdee74 (2/5): Avoid. Dated. Smells bad. Noisy. - Firstly, receptionist when we arrived was fantastic, I do want to point that out. Very helpful in finding us parking for my son with a broken leg. That's where the good ended though. Went for a meal in the restaurant at around 8pm, food orders accepted until 8.45 but you wouldn't know it. Barely any visible staff. No glasses available behind the bar. Uninterested staff and the worst example of a vegan burger I've ever come across. Sent back but came back the same just more congealed, side of coleslaw was very dry cabbage and carrot.
Beds were comfy but room was cold on arrival because windows open. Soon realised why. Awful damp smell. Stained furniture, broken, rusty lights and sticky carpet. Third bed in front of paper thin adjoining door with young children the other side running around and shrieking. Banging from upstairs. Reception overwhelmed because people complaining so just put up with it.
Customer service didn't want to know even when previous similar reviews pointed out showing they already know and aren't resolving. Restaurant not their problem, speak to local team. Not considered a disrupted stay because had to deal with ourselves. Didn't even acknowledge the positives about their staff. Never had a Premier Inn stay like it. Nor a customer service experience.
- Calvin J. (2/5): - Very poor condition. Staff couldn’t care less. Filthy. No parking available. Oh and the smell !! Pictures in advertisement do not reflect condition. Poor state of repair. Did not stay. Parking offsite expensive and long walk to hotel. Take it or leave it attitude.
- carlwV856VM (2/5): Damp and musty bedroom - Stopped here for a couple of nights at half term, ended up in the assisted bedroom as the hotel was full. I booked a Premier Inn as I thought we could guarantee a level of quality, unfortunately not, bedroom felt damp and smelt musty, cobwebs, filthy bathroom, ripped vinyl flooring, noisy bathroom fan, creaking floors above, very tired room, never again
- shaver2015 (8/5): Good hotel to stay in when visiting York - A useful hotel to stay in when visiting York. Good sleep and a good breakfast. Been here a number of times over the years and have never been disappointed.
- David3313 (8/5): Matt deserves an Award! - Matt who works behind the bar and in the restaurant was excellent. He was doing the work of 3 people in our opinion as it was under staffed. He was extremely professional, polite and attentive and deserves a staff award for the service he provided. Rooms ok but a bit tired looking as were the carpets in the communal areas. Location reasonably close to city centre shopping and food was very good.
- 260nikir (4/5): Should of stayed in the Holiday Inn - My stay at this hotel was very disappointing. The self check-in machine didn’t work, and there were no staff available to help, which made for a frustrating arrival.
The corridor leading to my room had a strong unpleasant smell, and the room itself was poorly maintained — a broken USB port by the bed, cobwebs on the ceiling and near the desk, and a cold, damp atmosphere that made the bedding feel clammy.
The bathroom had black mould on the ceiling, and the bath soap dispenser had been filled with water. My towel was also ripped and full of holes.
When I raised these issues with staff, I was told they were already aware but that “nothing could be done,” as management doesn’t invest in the northern hotels. Hearing that was very disappointing and summed up the overall lack of care.
I wouldn’t recommend staying here until significant improvements are made to both the facilities and customer service.
- lukeh958 (4/5): Needs a refit desperately - Very tired premier inn, in desperate need of a refit. All fittings are rusty, carpets are well worn, and floor creak a lot!
- Explore591742 (4/5): Extremely disappointing stay - Hotel standards in general have dipped drastically. We’ve stayed here a few years running now but something has gone drastically wrong this year.
Fan in bathroom was incredibly noisy, clearly faulty, I like to leave a background light on at night but this was simply impossible because when the bathroom light was on, the fan was on. Didn’t get the promised good night’s sleep.
Two men talking outside room opposite ours at 1.45am. In the end I had to get up and ask them to “keep it down” they continued their conversation for another 10 mins approx, just a little bit quieter. Obviously I know the hotel are not to blame for this but as you can imagine, this did not enhance our extremely disappointing experience.
Outside of bath was dirty and scuffed, ceiling was literally covered in black mould. Pillowcase was mouldy. USB charging point was broken on one side of the bed.
Corridor carpets were shabby and dirty.
Whole place needs a facelift.
Car park discount ticket for NCP car park didn’t work upon leaving.
And the piece de resistance was the evening meal we’d pre paid for…….below is our experience……
We went to the restaurant at approx 7pm for our pre paid for meal and drink. Waited for someone to come and take our order, nobody came! Went to bar eventually to get order ourselves at 7.25pm. Husband came back with drinks then we proceeded to wait for our meals. We waited and waited (as did customers at another table) until eventually we went to enquire at the bar. Our meals were brought out to us at approx 8.20pm. Peas on husbands plate had definitely been around quite some time….looked disgusting and were inedible. My meal then arrived and was barely lukewarm, the fries were missing and when I asked about them the server said he’d go and get me a bowl of chips as if he was doing me a massive favour!!....I pointed out these were supposed to be served with the meal I’d chosen anyway!! Had to send my meal back as it was too cold to eat and that was it!!! No explanation, nothing. I sat and watched my husband eat his meal (at least the edible parts of it) and I sat with my bowl of fries!!! which I didn’t eat many of as I was assuming I would be getting a replacement meal brought to me!! 15 minutes passed during which time I was becoming more and more annoyed. Our evening meal was ruined. I went to reception and the young man was very polite and apologetic and said he would ring through to the sister hotel so they could arrange a refund, he couldn’t do it so off we went to the other side (North) where the two ladies at reception were also apologetic and put the refund through. When I enquired as to what would happen about our breakfast the next morning she very kindly said we would receive a complimentary breakfast which was the only saving grace really. I was concerned as to what breakfast would be like following this debacle but fortunately it was fine.
But what a terrible experience that night and a ruined evening out for us.
Oh and by the way, whilst I was having to sort out the refund at reception time was ticking by. My replacement meal never arrived in the 35 minutes all this took and no explanation nor apology, in fact no sign of the servers at all!!
- P1791MTsimonh (4/5): A distinctly Soviet experience - The location beside the train station must be the attraction here because there was little else to recommend it, even as a basic place to crash before an early morning train. I'd consider myself low maintenance and easy to please but precious little about this overnight stay would encourage me to repeat the experience.
The room was cold in two ways. The lighting is led bulbs, that cold white operating room glare, even the silly fairy light bendy straw things beside the bed. Ugly. So I sat in the dark mostly. The heating wasn't working so I assumed it was centrally controlled and deemed not cold enough to justify it, so I slept in my joggers.
The bathroom was smelly. Like a musty unpleasant odour and the tiles had mould in the grout. The fan was very loud like it was beyond the end of its life.
The shower temperature and the bed were both fine, no complaints, but I've stayed in Travel lodges that were far superior basic places to stay. I don't expect to be in luxuries lap for the price, though it was over 100 for a night, but comfortable heating, lighting, clean smell and quiet are all quite achievable with minimal investment and consideration. As I say, I presume this place is held up by its proximity to the station and centre, but I won't stay there again. I was in room 2021.
- C9175NFdavids (6/5): Dreadful cooked breakfast - Good location. Lovely staff. Awful cooked breakfast. So poor we would not stay again. Why can’t such a simple thing be good.
- Sightsee48932600948 (2/5): No management, poor staff! No communication! - Everyone was going to the wrong hotel as there are two hotels next to each other, the check-ins were awful! Rooms were not ready. Staff only covering, never saw the same member of staff!
The bathroom bins were not emptied form the previous guest. Fingerprints on the mirror!
I phoned over a month before to see if they could help me with some birthday banners for my sons 13th which a lovely girl Molly, said she would sort! Even putting note on the system! Sadly the banners were not sorted. So for the first time ever my son didn’t have a birthday banner to wake up to! Very disappointed! When I checked the next day with reception they said nothing was on the system! And were not very apologetic either.
It was the attitude of the staff that bothered me more than anything! As if they didn’t want to be there! Didn’t seem managed at all!
During our one night stay two other customers were changing rooms for one reason or another!
Very disappointed with our stay in the premier inn, never had a problem before!
- michaelbD9350SM (4/5): Not even the Vikings would stay here! - The 'Viking' wing of Blossom Street North - I think if the Vikings were pillaging and burning York, they would stay in a burnt out hovel rather than here!
1. Drab and worn mustard colour everywhere.
2. Our window could only be opened with extreme force (a Viking axe would have been handy).
3. Our bathroom bin had not been emptied from the previous occupant.
4. The bathroom was missing one bar of the towel rail, only the fixings remained..
5. There were no water glasses in the room.
6. There was no meal information in the room.
7. We were not told at any point that breakfast was in Blossom Street South.
Before going out for the evening we mentioned the full bin and lack of glasses to reception.......we returned to find two glasses and the rubbish bagged and left on the dressing table/desk. Was this incompetence or something else?
I love Premier Inn's and have stayed at many for both work and leisure, this was the worst I have ever stayed in.
- Alexandra (10/5): - This room was spacious and clean, and within close proximity to the train station, bus stop and dining options. I would recommend this property and would stay there again.
- jesse (10/5): - Great
- Andrea (6/5): - Posizione buona. Sulla pulizia si potrebbe fare molto di più.
- Graeme (2/5): - Dirty, tissue paper for toilet, only 2 towels, no wash cloths, extremely dusty, very noisy, the air didn’t work, shower curtain didn’t even cover half the shower. We told the front desk we didn’t want to even stay two days and she said they don’t work for Expedia and she couldn’t do anything about it.
We only stayed the nite it was so bad Also your site says everything is included. It wasn’t we had to pay for parking. The staff at front desk were unprofessional and it was filthy.
Honestly we should get a full refund at the very least the nite we didn’t stay. We will never recommend this place or to book using your service.
