Guest Reviews
- P6662QFmelanier (10/5): Ideally located - Good hotel. Personally I think this hotel is ideally located to get the best value to location deal. I say this because, there is a 25 min (easy flat) walk to Portobello beach, which is beautiful. There are also buses. But the walk is nice because you pass a little town center on the way! Then there are around 5 buses that come regularly and run late to take you into the city. Bus is £2.20 so cheap as chips. I'll most likely stay here again to get the best of both worlds. The staff seem wonderful and the hotel is quiet.
- 542marjoriew (10/5): Cheerful, helpful & efficient - The room and public areas were clean and well cared for. The staff I encountered were cheerful, helpful and efficient. The room had a bath - what bliss arriving late evening, oodles of hot water and a warm room. The hotel is the best value by far of those Edinburgh airport hotels I have stayed in. The downside was finding how to get there, but I found Edinburgh Black Cabs to be an excellent & efficient service
- aurielbruce1 (4/5): Far too noisy to get a night's sleep. - Sadly probably the most disappointing Premier Inn stay ever. We recognised that being so close to the flight path might prove difficult and it was. But the last departure was around 11pm. Unfortunately we then had to listen to banging and crashing from the room above us. There is virtually no sound proofing so rather than arriving for our morning flight refreshed, we were both shattered.
The hotel itself really is very tired and ready to be upgraded
- 570stevenb (6/5): OK but could have been better! - We visited on Tue, Wed checkout Thursday. We received a nice warm welcome and got to our very warm and convenient room. This is Edinburgh on a wet freezing cold day so we were ready to kick off our shoes and dry off before heading downstairs for dinner. Bear in mind Scotland were playing Denmark for a place in the World Cup 2026. We enjoyed our starters but then heard a huge roar from the kitchens! Scotland had just scored minutes into kick-off and I couldn't help feeling that the tv took priority over our mains. Our fillet steaks (medium) arrived pink in the middle but cool and dry. The flat mushroom wasn't a flat mushroom. It was a general kind about an inch and a half diameter and the grilled tomato was half of a salad tomato. Peas were dry. We really couldn't be bothered making a fuss. We were so tired, I could have fallen asleep at the table. I wouldn't have done as there was too much cheering from the kitchen. I'm all for celebrating a momentous occasion but in this instance, quality suffered. There was a fire alarm next morning which was handled efficiently.
- oliviasO8411QU (10/5): Brill! - Lovely hotel and staff. Nice room, cosy beds. Situated about a 15-20minute bus journey away from Edinburgh city centre, with the bus stop about a 3 minute walk away from the hotel and buses very frequent day and night. We paid £2.20 each for a single adult ticket. I believe day passes were £5.50. On our last day we went to Portobello beach, which was an 8 minute drive and was absolutely lovely. Would recommend this hotel!
- Leezzer1 (6/5): Price to high for what you get. - Very underwhelming, rooms weren't ready, heating doesn't work well or easily, lift was broken on arrival, repaired later on that day. No complimentary offered for my room not being ready and having to downgrade.
- jmbager (4/5): Not a place I want to return to - This is an airport hotel with its own restaurant, so by default it should be suitable for business travellers. However, be warned; The restaurant requires pre-booking and operates a ridiculous system allowing only 3 slots every 15 min. Apparently due to only one single cook in the kitchen. Result: Arriving by air in the evening and looking for something to eat, but unfortunately the next available slot in the restaurant was 2 hours later, even though very few tables were in use! Not the kind of service you expect as a business traveller, or as any other kind of traveller for that matter.
How was the quality of the food you may ask? There’s room for improvement.
The hotel appeared understaffed, however, the available staff were friendly.
The restaurant and the room were quite cold, and the heating system in the room appeared not to have any effect other than making noise. The inventory in the room appeared tired and with a wobbly table.
There’s no shuttle bus from/to the airport, so you have to take a taxi. I waited 20 min. at the hotel for a taxi to the airport at 4:30 in the morning.
- Spiddy (4/5): Not the best - Previous to staying here, I had thought of Premier Inns as giving a basic level of comfort and cleanliness, but this one was a disappointment. On the plus side: the bed was comfortable and clean, and there was hot water for the shower. Parking was fairly cheap (especially for Edinburgh) and the location felt safe.
On the down side: room was damp with mouldy patches on wall and around the window. Battered furniture. Walls very thin and noise from neighbours heard throughout the night and morning. Carpet felt unclean and grubby. Public areas of the building were shabby and unwelcoming.
We didn't try the breakfast - sounds like a good choice from reading other reviews.
- Resort22338460675 (2/5): Please stay elsewhere - Honestly the worst experience I’ve had at a premier inn. You don’t expect glitz and glamour staying at a premier inn, but you do expect at least some standard of hospitality and cleanliness. All staff we had any interaction with (bar one lovely lady on reception the night of Halloween) were incredibly rude, disinterested and unwelcoming. Our bedroom was evidently not properly cleaned before our stay with shards of glass being left on the floor (not made by us), the bathroom was filthy, no toilet paper, ceiling and shower cubicle absolutely caked in mould with the ceiling falling into despair. I’m not usually one to complain, but for the price of this premier inn, I really didn’t expect to feel dirtier after taking my shower than before I entered. The corridors also had a very weird, very gone-off-food smell to them, really unsettling. Most inviting, disappointing stay I’ve had.
- 5devr (10/5): Great place and definitely recommend it. - Great place to stay away from the city centre.Food is too dear and portions are quite small .
There is a car parking fee in case you decide to stay here.
- davekW2718JL (10/5): Amazing staff! - We arrived after a really bad time returning from holiday. We were tired, misserable and just had enough. We were checked in almost midnight by a gentleman that was so friendly and helpful.. he kept the bar open so we could unwind and his collegue then followed suit and couldn't be nicer and more helpful. They were great with the kids, gave them treats, entertainment and even made them hot chocolate at half 1 in the morning! Such a nice change from the rubbish few days we'd had..
- x2015x (10/5): Location - This hotel is ideal for buses in to the city centre that are on a regular basis, the bus information is located at reception. For the airport you need a taxi or walk 10-15 min to a different bus stop to the airport. The staff are friendly and clean rooms.
- chrismitchell1981 (4/5): Passable Premier Inn / Bogging Beefeater... - Hotel is pretty tired and dated, and could do with some care and attention, and tidiness/cleanliness could do with improving. For a budget/cheap option, does what it needs to for a place to rest your head. Bed was comfy, but some bedding was stained/not clean. Would consider other options next time. The Premier Inn staff seemed friendly and attentive (despite clear lack of communication between themselves and the Beefeater attached).
The Beefeater is another story. Despite having booked a breakfast sitting the night before, and not paid in advance (as we were told to do the previous evening), turned up in the morning to find no booking, to be told that we couldn't book breakfast so late, and we couldn't pay in the morning. It transpires you can book and pay in the morning (at least when they dont communicate the booking), its just that they'd rather not have the hassle... Once we got over that hurdle, the experience continued...
I will offer the two staff some leeway in that they seemed to be manning the breakfast service themselves, but the customer service was largely non-existent. Staff were generally abrupt, dismissive and rude, like we were forcing them to offer a breakfast service. A number of (already limited) breakfast items were not available, and my own order was wrong. Food was poorly cooked and pretty cold. The actual 'restaurant' is absolutely grotty, with broken booths, grimey carpets, and didnt look like it'd been given any love for a number of years. This restaurant is definitely a stain on the usually-reliable (albeit no frills) offering from a Premier Inn collaboration, which has dragged the hotel review down.
- 374zahrak (2/5): Worse experience in my life - We were already familiar with the location, so no issues there. However, this stay has unfortunately made me reconsider using Premier Inn for future bookings. My experience was far below the standard I've come to expect.
The staff, particularly in the restaurant, were unfriendly and, at times, rude. Our room was also not up to standard. We found spider webs near the window under the curtain, and the carpet was visibly dirty. The bathroom bin had no liner. Additionally, the toilet tissue was only about 20% full when we arrived, which is just not acceptable. To add to the discomfort, the bin collection happened around 7 AM, with the bins placed directly behind our room. This made for a very noisy early morning.
The breakfast experience was the worst part of our stay. We had booked for two nights, and our package included an 'unlimited cooked breakfast,' which was supposed to be a buffet-style service from 7 to 11 AM. However, there was no buffet in sight. Instead, we were forced to choose a time to have breakfast, which was incredibly inconvenient. On the first day, we had to order our food and wait a long time for it to be served. Some items weren’t available, and the food we did receive was cold. When we ordered a second portion, the staff's attitude was unprofessional, with rude and dismissive behavior.
To make matters worse, on the second day, we were informed our entrance to the restaurant that there was no cooked breakfast available at all. This was particularly frustrating as we were traveling with four children, and finding an alternative was a huge inconvenience. The hotel did offer a full refund for the breakfast, but despite this promise, after 2 days, we have yet to receive any communication or refund confirmation.
Overall, I highly recommend avoiding this location, especially if you are traveling with family. It was a disappointing experience that has made me rethink my choice of hotel chains.
- sarloubra (4/5): Worst night's sleet at a Premier Inn - Unfortunately this is a review I never thought I would see myself writing for a stay at a Premier Inn. Edinburgh Airport Premier Inn is a good hotel, very conveniently located for us and is very clean, but this time I was not impressed with the location of our bedroom one bit. We had been travelling all day and only had a few hours to sleep before we had to be on our way again to travel back to Inner Hebridean island we live on. I was given a twin room (room 145, 15th October for 1 night) which was situated directly above the ventilation system for the hotel and all night, all I could hear was the constant drone of the ventilation system. Even my daughter (who could sleep through anything) commented on it. The ventilation shaft looked like it literally came straight out of the building directly under the bedroom. So much for the sleep promise...we never got a wink of sleep. Premier Inn's are my 'go-to' hotel each and every time I leave the island, but this was the worst night I have ever had in a Premier Inn. I wouldn't be surprised if more guests had complained about that room.
- Z1186GBlisaa (10/5): Fantastic Stay - Fantastic stay late night check in made easier due to the fantastic customer service from the 2 night team members! Both went over and above.
- nicolec5830 (8/5): Great (with a few tweaks). - Though the hotel was safe, predictable and comfortable, one should make sure to reserve to eat at the restaurant to avoid disappointment or a very late seating. Also, North Americans who are accustomed to a top sheet between them and the comforter/duvet, should know that there is none provided on the bed. Otherwise, comfortable and close to the airport.
- scottie0 (4/5): Poor Service - Was staying there before going on holiday early next day. The hotel was quite busy. Once we arrived, I asked to book a table for dinner. However there was nothing available until 8:30pm. They told us they were expecting a large group and there wasnt enough staff on. Very disappointing as they must have seen there was a lot of people staying over. So we ended up over at McDonalds as we just couldnt wait until 9pm to be served our food. The bar was busy too with the barman (Scott) being the most scary guy ever. He definitely didn't seem happy and was rushed off his feet. This meant that the bar area was quite dirty with lots of glasses lying around. The price of drinks too was horrendous and extremely poor range of drinks too.
The room as usual was fine - the usual Premier Inn with still the most comfy beds. But, unfortunately we had to pay for parking for the night which seems unfair when you have paid to sleep there.
Last time we flew in May we stayed at the Travelodge at Ratho Station. Plenty of food and good choice of drinks and not too bad priced. Will be going back there the next time. They also do not charge for parking !
- FamilyOfFourz (4/5): No frills hotel - Convenient location to the airport.
Rooms are tired, smelt of damp and can see visible damp in corner or room.
Room no.1 right next to service bins so very noisy with staff using them.
Room for the night, for early start but poor standards for the price paid.
- J1659AWterrym (10/5): Happily surprised at the experience. - I didn't have high expectations, but I was very impressed with the way the hotel worked and especially how human and normal the staff were. I love meeting real people. The room was perfectly adequate for my needs and the bed was very very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent of outstanding note the black pudding, apparently it's McSweens, the sausages, and the coffee. The hash browns were also very noteworthy. Yes I enjoyed it. I know its an English company but if you are going to provide such a good breakfast in Scotland put haggis on the menu please.
- nicolalJ4166CS (6/5): For for purpose but nothing fancy - The staff are really nice and the transport links into Edinburgh centre are fab, worth staying a wee bit out of the city to make the stay cheaper. The hotel itself is a bit tired and dated and really could be doing with an upgrade. We mostly had everything we needed for an overnight stay, except for cups and coffee/tea though we did have a kettle and spoons? The beds are really comfy and we slept great, quiet too. We didn’t use the restaurant so can’t comment on that. Overall it’s okay for a night to use as a base if you’re mostly out and about and I would stay here again for that purpose, but if I was staying longer I’d probably find a nicer hotel.
- davidkA729KA (6/5): Unexpected extra parking costs. - Premier inn was good, let down by an unexpected extra cost for parking of £7.
When booking online my understanding was thst there was free parking, only to find signage showing parking costs.
- Arne (6/5): Bra kommunikationer! - Bra kommunikationer nära hotellet. Skippade frukost då matbutik fanns precis utanför hotellet.. Lukten av "heltäckningsmatta" fanns överallt men hyfsat rent men slitet badrum.
- roopeshjames (2/5): Pathetic customer service - The room was good. But the customer service was bad.
Used towels were there in the bathroom in bathtub and also there were no new towels.
And I needed to go downstairs to report it, waited a long time in the reception, and finally i did say about the used towels and asked them for new towels. And she went and took new towels which was handed over in the reception. And I went room with those towels in my hand all the way. Such a pathetic service. Do you guys think I was staying there for free of cost? I've paid nearly 200 gbp and you guys didn't have minimum common sense.
- Kenneth (6/5): - Full frukost erbjöds inte alla dagar trots att vi betalt för det.
- Alya (6/5): - The room was clean
But there was no AC the room was very hot and there was no air
Other than that it was okay
- JasonH496 (10/5): Good choice to get to airport - I had no issues at all with this hotel—everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the stay was as expected. It’s very close to the airport: about £20 by cab, or you can walk about 5 minutes to a bus stop and take public transport if you prefer. There’s also plenty of parking on-site (around £7 per night).
One important thing to note is the location: there is absolutely nothing around the hotel. The closest options are a McDonald’s and a fully stocked gas station about a 15-minute walk away, which requires crossing some busy roadways. Thankfully, the hotel does have an on-site restaurant, and prices seemed fair, but you do need to book a time slot—even for walk-up / take-out service.
Based on what I paid for the night (around £50), I give it 5 stars. I knew what I was getting into, and it delivered exactly that: a clean, convenient airport hotel. That said, now that I’ve learned how many buses run from downtown Edinburgh to the airport in about 30 minutes (and they leave every 30 minutes at least, even overnight or early morning), I don’t think staying out here is strictly necessary unless you want to be right by the airport.
For Canadian and American travelers, just a reminder that rooms do not come with mini-fridges, which may be different from what you’re used to.
The only issue was that despite what seemed to be a working thermostat, the temperature did not rise when I adjusted.
Overall, a reliable, budget-friendly airport hotel if proximity to the airport is your top priority.
- Bobbi (6/5): - If you’re planning on visiting the Royal Mile or surrounding area don’t book here. It’s too far from anything. Taxi will be £14 at least. There’s a restaurant in the hotel, which was good, but that’s your only option. The beds were comfy. Our room heater didn’t work so they brought us a portable heater that took the chill off. The shower was nice and hot but the tub was really tall. If you have any mobility issues it’s hard to get in and out. And it’s slippery. Front desk staff tried very hard to make us happy. We wouldn’t stay there again because of the location.
- jeanb168 (10/5): Premier Inn - a good overall stay - This is well located for your needs when in Edinburgh, we have stopped here overnight for the last 7 years at this time. No complaints.
- john (8/5): - bra frukost. lite tvärt bemötande vid incheckning men annars trevlig personal. ganska slitet rum men skön säng.
- richardfT1630AM (4/5): Not great - The check in kiosk did not work. Our room smelled of smoke and the hotel was unable to change our room. They suggested talking to staff in the morning about a discount due to the smoke but when we left the next morning we could not find any staff at the desk or lobby to talk to. Also had to pay extra for parking.
- amazon (8/5): - Very close to mass transportation, bus stop only 2 minutes from property. Very convenient to walk to King Arthur’s Seat and Sheep Heid Inn as well as Duddington Kirk. Overall a very good experience.
- paddyhealy1 (10/5): I cannot fault this place. - Not far from the airport. Quick and easy parking & payment for your car. Quick & easy check in process. The staff are friendly & helpful. They always seem so busy! It must be a popular location. The food is very good. Excellent all round for me.
- HeidiMost (8/5): Affordable option close to airport and make sure to make dinner reservations. - This is one of the few affordable hotel options near the hotel. You still need to take a cab or Uber (cheaper to Uber), but the total cost with transportation is still significantly cheaper than the airport hotels. We bought the Meal Deal, BUT MAKE SURE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR DINNER in addition. We thought prepaying for the meal would guarantee us a spot, but it did not. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast options were plentiful.
- sburchard (2/5): Avoid if you possibly can. - My room was directly above a very noisy fan which ran all night. I spoke about it to the morning receptionist who told me that it was an air conditioning unit which should be turned off at night. She said that she would remind the staff to do this but could not change my room as the hotel was fully booked.
On my return that evening I asked the evening receptionist about the fan. She said that it was cooling for the cellar and could not be turned off. She added that they were fully booked but had it mentioned raised the issue that morning they could have changed my room! I believe that this version was correct.
In addition to the fan problem the housekeeping staff do not know how to make a bed and think that adjusting the duvet does the job.
All in all the hotel can not be described as either ‘comfortable’ or ‘value for money’.
- Gerry (10/5): - Great bed and helpful staff. That’s all I need in a hotel.
- Dan (10/5): - God value. Breakfast was excellent.
- B7948CLmarkh (2/5): Car park chargable nightmare beware - Please be aware that you have to pay for parking at the hotel, I foolishly believed parking would have been included when you are a guest, I used the hotel after landing at Edinburgh Airport at 4am, wanting to get a rest before a 3 hour drive home, I received a £57 parking charge, would have liked a more upfront notice about the parking, I rang the hotel and the manager was not interested.
Not sure I will use a Premier in again when traveling.
- miraclepie (8/5): Nice but too hot! - We stayed for two non-consecutive nights on our 10 day trip to Scotland in September 2025. I live a premier Inn and felt it was great value for money. We had a family room and both times it was set up appropriately. We had enough room for all four of us to sleep and the bathroom also provided very good shower pressure and a nice bath.
I would stay again but here’s what I didn’t like:
- the windows didn’t open and it was so incredibly hot! We kept the air conditioning on all night but nearly all of us woke up sweating. I don’t think AC goes below 19C in most hotels which I’ll never understand.
- we booked the meal deal as we were landing at 5pm and didn’t want to faff around looking for dinner. But when we got there for 7pm they said there was no room for dinner until 9pm and so we had to get a refund and eat at McDonald’s which is very close. We then also tried to eat there on our last night but the restaurant didn’t even open until 5pm!
- Navigator30283 (6/5): Ok stay but wont go back - Great help from the receptionist, she was a star.
Barman was really grumpy!
Its a bit out of the way from the airport and you nedd ataxi there and back so expensive.
Dont try phoning ther hotel as they never answer the phone
- malc970 (10/5): Above and beyond - Staff were exceptionally nice and explained everything about my stay at check in. Also supplied a phone charger when mine failed politely and without fuss. Felt really welcomed. Would highly recommend this hotel and it's very nice staff 👍
- Valerie (4/5): - Location to Edinburgh was great
- Mahdi (10/5): - Close to bus station and a convenient store. Nice staff and good restaurant.
- Kuldeep (6/5): - Toilets wasn't maintained properly, was smelling a lot. When informed to front desk, they have spread temporary room freshener but it doesn't help
- Henning (10/5): - Immaculate bathroom, cosy bed, tasty breakfast - nothing more to add. Thank you!
- Mahoogan (6/5): You Get What You Pay For - You get what you pay for. Definitely overpriced for the end of fringe: room was dusty and dirty, stains on curtains and furniture, mold in bathroom, and so hot. The last few nights only having a window and a fan my room stayed at 25 c with no relief. The staff were friendly and restaurant is attached for convenience. The Internet was atrocious the entire time and couldn’t connect or even stay connected. Quite a way from town but the buses only take about 20 min to get to the city and the bus stop is right outside.
- MOOSE-CANADA63 (10/5): Lovely Room - Clean room Very comfortable bed. Bathroom was clean with a strong shower head
Parking facility was chargeable but responsibly priced. £4 per night
- Martaksa (6/5): Un aprobado muy justo, al menos, para ir en agosto - The hotel is very dated and needs a facelift and some basic renovations. For example, the beds are very soft and show signs of wear. It was very hot and couldn't be regulated, and the bedding is very warm, even for very low temperatures, which wasn't the case when we were there. The Wi-Fi in the room also didn't work, which could easily be improved. It's far from the city center, but has very good public transport links. In August, all accommodation in Edinburgh is expensive, but it's clearly a lot of money for what's offered.
- Wenjing (8/5): - A little bit far from train station or airport or city centre. Fine stay for one night before travelling back home.
- Caseyfourseven (6/5): Good could be better - Good price and friendly staff! The room was quiet clean.. a little bit of dust here and there but nothing too bad.
The experience could be perfect if the mattress was not in so bad condition (could feel the springs on my body) and the shared parts of the hotel were renovated. The bad smell at first floor is too much!! Floor carpeting need to be renovated or cleaned.
- BR14NLEE (4/5): Poor by Premier Inn standards and at £276 per night dismal value - Having arrived early (2:30 for a 3:00 check in) we went to reception to see if they had a bag drop, starting the conversation with the receptionist " I know we are early but" i didn't get the bag drop question out before I was told early check in was £15, we walked away and went to the bar where we were served by a very hard working and pleasant female bar tender. We had our drinks and returned to check in, where miss congeniality had not thawed on degree, we got to our room dropped our bags and went straight out to the event we were there to attend. On our return later that night we had a proper look at the £276 a night room ( inflated price due to the Edinburgh Fringe / tattoo and AC DC at Murrayfield) but none the less a £276 small cramp dark and very very noisy room, Room 4 is just across from reception and just outside the window is the air con unit to cool the beers for the bar, window closed even stuffier room, window open like sleeping in a badly maintained motorboat engine. Breakfast was good, well cooked and pleasant staff, on checkout we had found on hanger with the cross strut missing, exposing two rather sharp fixing pins, I took it to reception to report it for replacement and not to leave it for someone to cut themselves on, I started to explain to the same receptionist from the preceding day only to get the same attitude, I am sure she said I'd broken it but at this point I had already placed the hanger on reception desk, deposited my room card and turned to leave, hopefully never to return.
- Anne Charlotte (8/5): - Rent och snyggt. Frukostpersonalen var lite grinig. Frukosten ok
- Mirko (2/5): - camera e bagno sporchi e puzzolenti, personale scortese, colazione scadente... niente da salvare, hotel terribile!!!
- Annapatriciauk (10/5): Lovely hotel with amazing staff - Stayed with 2 children under 2 and have to say the whole stay was amazing.
The staff are absolutely amazing - couldn’t do more to help, from reception to the restaurant.
Room was very clean and spacious that comfortably fit 2 travel cots.

- Jpstylee (6/5): Decent low cost alternative for festival, staffing levels ultimately let it down - Good budget option for the festival. Well connected by regular buses. Good restaurant connected - we availed of a deal for 2 course evening meal and a drink and breakfast the next day.
The downsides - staff are constantly overstretched. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, but they seemed the whole duration of the stay to be in need of at least one more chef in the kitchen, waiter on the tables, or in reception.
We found food good, but when availing of rhe 2 courses and a drink offer, we were told one of our mains was not available after the starter was served. At breakfast, poached eggs were off because the only chef on had experienced a steam burn and couldnt cook them.
A poor parting experience that I think could have been avoided was when swinging by the hotel on our last day to pick up bags en route to the airport we had to wait on a tour of 20 or more tourists get checked in before the girl on reception could take 10 seconds to pass out 2 bags from the left luggage in the next room (ours were the only bags there).
Finally - rooms dont have air con so in the summer do bear this in mind as most premier inns do have this.
- Lennaert (8/5): - We have stayed in the family room with two children. They had two beds next to the 2 person bed. It was clean and basic but good. There is a good bus connection to the center or you can walk to it through the park. The staff was really nice and the food is good.
- olivia (10/5): - Muy tranquilo, desayuno muy bueno y aparcamiento muy barato.
Cerca de Portobello.
