Guest Reviews
- ADP1979 (4/5): Not happy this time - Stay here when visiting my parents in the area and always looked forward to seeing the staff but this time I wasn’t impressed. The young guy on the evenings showed no interest. It was like he didn’t want to be there and spent more time outside the front door smoking (probably on the clock), on his phone and at one point witnessed him playing with a lighter at reception which seemed not only unprofessional but dangerous.
Definitely not my usual experience at this hotel, hopefully they have drafted him in from another hotel to help with staff shortage.
Tried the new restaurant next door, very nice, liked the little chocolate in my room on this occasion and plenty of free parking spaces at the time I arrived. The prices keep creeping up, the hotel isn’t being updated and now the staff aren’t welcoming. Disappointed on this occasion.
- peterdD8549EN (4/5): Disappointed at Wigan Premier Inn - This Premier Inn looks modern from the outside and we were not too surprised to find screen check ins, however it was disappointing that the technology didn't work and even the staff when called struggled to get room cards that would work, these needed changed again during our stay. On entering the room it felt cold and unwelcoming, the heating was turned up but it didn't work. Visit to reception - heating turned up from staff computer, after two hours the room was stifling hot so another visit to reception (no opening windows). This process was repeated most days of our five day stay. The room had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and felt well worn. The hairdryer didn't work, positively dangerous - glowing red! The replacement only worked occasionally. The room was not cleaned unless we asked at reception each day - towels didn't dry because the heating was mostly off so unless you repeatedly asked for a room clean or replacement towels you had had to put up with wet towels after your morning shower. Breakfast was poor compared with other recent Premier Inn visits. Staff, with a few exceptions, seemed unhappy in their work with few able to raise a smile. Only one lift was working most days and the other did not give any confidence operationally.
- SoloTravellerJimbob (6/5): Fine - Hotel clean, good location, some staff lovely but the guy on reception seemed to spend most of his time smoking outside the front door (probably on the clock) or on his phone at the desk, also witnessed playing with a lighter which didn’t make me feel very comfortable. Definitely not my usual experience at this hotel, hopefully they have drafted him in from another hotel to help with staff shortage and will be getting the usual staff back shortly. Tried the new restaurant next door, very nice, liked the little chocolate in my room on this occasion and plenty of free parking spaces at the time I arrived. One thing that’s kept me returning to this hotel is the great staff but not sure what to think going forward. Also, no breakfast anymore which isn’t an issue for me as don’t eat early in the day.
- Jet66943869869 (10/5): Brilliant stay - First impressions the staff were very polite and made checking in really easy, the room was spotless and the provided tea and coffee was a great extra. Being able to manually control the heating or the room was brilliant as I'm someone that is always cold and made me alot more comfortable. Check out was super easy. All in all brilliant experience
- Beavercowboy (10/5): Perfect! Just as expected with no surprises! - The room was clean and comfortable! The front desk attendants were friendly and helpful. The hole was ideally located for everything I wanted to do in the area.
- P6422CZalisone (10/5): Special mention for Jackie...(member of staff) - We really enjoyed our stay here. As always with Premier Inn, our room was clean and comfortable. We slept very well. The staff were really helpful. A special mention for Jackie, she was delightful and very professional. Jackie helped us with our check in. At breakfast Jackie was again, very polite and very friendly and is a credit to the hotel. Other members of staff, were equally pleasant, and we'd like to thank them all for making our stay memorable.
- abbeyc875 (10/5): Perfect Venue, Perfect Rooms - Hosted my sisters baby shower here and will definitely be using this venue again for further functions. We had the full restaurant to ourselves as it’s closed for service during the daytime. The staff let me know when breakfast was finished and allowed me in to decorate beforehand. A couple of family members stayed over as they don’t live near and they said they would definitely be back. Room clean and modern, breakfast brilliant and plenty of it. Unfortunately I didn’t get pictures of the latter as I live locally. Such a shame this venue isn’t used more for functions during the day time. Thank you to the staff (especially Will) for helping make a memorable day x
- B7886CXbrendac (10/5): Friendly, clean and handy for M6 - We always like staying at Standish Premier Inn, as its lovely and clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. (As my husband and I are disabled the staff are happy to help if we need it). It is also very handy for us as it's close to the M6
- dannym254 (2/5): Never again - Very outdated rooms need a refurb also dont expect a breakfast as they dont cater for them as i found out when .we arrived. If you stay here also make sure you dont sleep at the front of the hotel if you open the wimdow you will be kept awake by the road noise which was constant all night never again will we stay here it is shocking
- Sightseer50401547100 (4/5): Bad experience from the moment we entered the door - We are a Norwegian couple mid 6o ies farily competent in both English and computers but here we met our match
At arrival we tried to check in but the reception consisted of a big flat screen and no people. We pushed a button for help and a man appeared from a rear room. We asked for help and he pointed at the flat screen and disappeared behind a door.
We tried several attempts but the system didn’t allow me to put in my postal code since it wasn’t English. We stepped aside and another couple tried the machine but with the same result. They needed too buzz for help, the same man appeared and he helped them.
We did our last attempt with no result so we had to buzz for help again, we explained that since we wasn’t able to get any help from him and that we didn’t understand the machine we had to find another hotel.
The man then told us to calm down and not being rude….But he finally did admit that it wasn’t too easy for a foreigner to get registered so he reluctantly helped us.
Premier inn sent me prior to arrival at least 5 emails about breakfast offers. We hadn’t ordered breakfast and that was a wise choice.
On Sunday we had to eat at the hotel since the local bakery was closed.
For 10,5 punds or 9,5 pounds we could choose between Continental or full breakfast.
The full breakfast was as expected, several fried fatty thing too choose from but the continental breakfast was a insult.
Bread to make toast
Several types of jam and other breadspreads in portion packages
Youghurt
Cereals
No vegetables no cheese no ham or other sliced food
Our suggestion is to save the money and eat another place if at all possible.
The pluss side is that the rooms were ok for the price and since we had a room facing the parking on the rear and not the street in front the rooms were very quiet.
All in all it is a fairly cheap hotel but some of the staff should realise they are there for the guests, no guests no hotel, no job.
- pavelbG3965GG (2/5): Short on breakfast - My company paid me bed and breakfast. I stay in this hotel 08/09 (Monday to Tuesday) of September. When I visited restaurant in the morning, staff told me I am not on list. I asked later another staff member; you are not on list. Not any booking check, I do understand sometimes mistakes happens, I don’t want to understand lack of willingness to double check for mistakes. Guest Room 7.
- P7609RKrachelg (8/5): Pretty Darn Good - Staff were lovely, room was clean and comfortable. Only minor issue was how warm the rooms got at night, but it was more than made up for by how well kept everything was.
- MoiraA71 (10/5): Wonderful time in Wigan - Stayed here for a weekend to visit friends. The hotel is in a perfect location, a 10 minute walk from both train stations. Again it’s a less than 10minute walk to all the local amenities. The hotel staff were very welcoming and there was always someone available no matter the time. Will definitely go back.
- gabyz412 (10/5): Ticked all boxes! - Had a great stay with my family in one of your family rooms, beds were super comfortable and loved the cleanliness of the place. Really enjoyed the breakfast!
- chigs0153 (6/5): Good night's sleep but a bit annoyed about the lack of free breakfast - Hotel was decent for the price. It was advertised with a free breakfast on the website but they hadn't provided breakfasts for a number of months.
- zoe6683 (8/5): Great place to stopover on a long journey - Perfect for an overnight stop over on our way up north! The family room (2 adults and 2 children) was very spacious and we didn’t feel cramped. The shower was v strong and the room was clean and comfortable.
- C2405SQgregw (10/5): Great trip - A premier inn never disappoints. This could have been bad though with a power cut and water outage both of which were outside of the control of the hotel, but they handled everything very well. The only disappointment from the trip was the greedy snd over zealous Hull Rugby league supporters who very selfishly completely over indulged themselves with ridiculously huge breakfast portion sizes, leaving slim pickings for others who had paid for breakfast. I know it's all you can eat guys, but one plate at a time out of respect for others . But again the staff handled this extremely well and did their absolute best to keep other guests happy.
- johndY4011WQ (4/5): First bad experience with Premier Inn (stayed at half a dozen around UK) - Fairly clean and quiet but stray hairs in bathroom and almost no toilet paper and shower get. Food poor and overpriced. But appreciate service staff are probably on min wage.
- emileedavies2 (10/5): A real star of premier inn! - From the second we walked in, Danny made us feel like old friends rather than just guests. He had that perfect mix of warmth, humour, and efficiency that instantly puts you at ease. Whether it was recommending the best nearby food and drink spots, sorting out little details in the room, or simply checking in with a friendly smile, nothing was too much trouble.
It’s rare to meet someone who clearly loves what they do – and it shows. Our stay was comfortable, but Danny made it memorable. Give this person a raise – they’re a credit to Premier Inn! I’ll be back again :)
- supermum64 (10/5): Amazing customer aervice - Well what can I say other than WOW!
We checked in last night when Alison was on duty. As she directed us to our room on the second floor I asked whether there was a lift as I am waiting for a new hip, Alison immediately offered to swap us to a ground floor room.
As we checked out this morning, I asked Alison whether there would be any chance that she could call ahead to the next premier inn (where we stay tonight) and request a ground floor room - Alison’s reply “all sorted, I did that for you last night”
That is definitely amazing customer service, thank you!
The rest of the stay was the usual premier inn high standard
- mariegO2698FH (10/5): Lovely mid week gwt away !!!! - Fantastic stay in the premier inn, Wigan town centre, lovely team members nothing was toooo much trouble, can not wait to return
- 351milliet (8/5): Great affordable hotel for Stationeryfest/Journalfest attendees! - I stayed here in order to be close to the Edge Conference Centre, where I was attending Stationeryfest for two days. All in all I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights due to flights from Copenhagen.
The hotel was recommended by the organizer of the event and I agree, this was good value for money. We did wanted to be in walking distance and spend our money at stationeryfest and not blow it all on hotel costs.
The hotel is nothing fancy but I have seen some truly bad hotels in London, so I was impressed with this UK hotel. What sort of room one can get outside London for less money.
They do not have someone man the reception at all hours, you have to knock on the staff door to get someone to come out and talk to you but staff is friendly and helpful. There is a lift for you which is a plus. I have been in London hotels that do not even if you are on the fifth floor.
The room itself was not a shoebox and since I was there with an IG friend I had never met before in real life, I appreciated that we did not have to live on top of each other but had some space to ourselves. The staff had pulled the double bed in to two beds! We had plenty of room for suitcases and our personal items, both in the room itself and in the bathroom.
The only bad things were really these:
1. I did not have an electrical outlet on my side of the bed which was bad because I needed to charge my phone at night and my tooth brush during the day. My friend could lay in bed and look at her phone and post on IG while charging her phone over by her window bed, but I had to get out of bed every time I needed to look at my phone and my alarm woke her up since I could not get to it quick enough to turn it off. So she was forced to wake at the same time as me.
2. I totally hated wiping myself with Kleenex. That is what is used for toilet paper in a lot of UK places now and as a woman, I do not appreciate getting pee or poop on my fingers because this Kleenex paper they use is too thin and the little squares too small to make in to a wad. I used oodles the first day and hated this system so I was forced to get to the shopping centre as soon as I could and buy proper toilet rolls for my five day stay!
3. The doorless closet is too short for dresses to be hung up so the newly ironed dresses could not hang straight and I ended up going to the event looking wrinkled which was alright I guess, but a little of a nuisance when I wanted to look my best.
4. My friend was drying her hair every day and she hated standing in the hall drying it by a poorly lit mirror that we also had to use to apply make up by. If you are a man who will use an electric razor or you are a woman who wants to dry your hair with a hair dryer, there are no electrical outlets in the bathrooms, so hall it is.
5. Our first night, after the event, we were exhausted. It had been hot at the Edge with no AC, we had walked with heavy things we had bought and all we wanted was to sit down and have a pizza at the hotel, which actually have a restaurant. But… despite the restaurant having tons of tables and only one table had occupants, we were told that there would be a 20 minute wait for a table because they only have one chef. We felt that the waitress did not really want us there, so we left and our little group of women had to head out again, around the corner and order take out pizzas at Papa Joe’s. We were invited to eat them in one girl’s room since she had a three bed room all to herself. So there we sat all of us on the beds, eating out of boxes when it was not really what we had wanted to do. But I guess it was a fun experience. It did turn us totally off the hotel restaurant though.
I do not know if they only have one chef on Friday evenings and more staff other nights? But we did not even bother finding out the other nights since the negative vibes on the Friday turned us off to the restaurant in general.
- 99bethant (10/5): Excellent - I went to this premier inn a couple of weeks ago, and had a really good experience. The room was super clean and check in was really easy. I always want a couple extra towels and one of the members of staff called Danny was super helpful got me the towels straight away and was very helpful and friendly throughout my stay. His service was simply great and will be returning!
- jamiesS6253DC (10/5): The BEST staff - Recently stayed here with friends while attending the Billie Eilish concert in Manchester, the room was clean and tidy for us arriving, the very good looking guy at reception (I think his name was Danny) was so lovely and was able to help us out with all our questions, going above and beyond helping us out with where we could get a nearby train from to Manchester. Every time we seen him he was so friendly and always so smiley. Will definitely book this place again!
- shelbysF5662AH (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at premier inn, staff were very friendly and so helpful! In particular Danny who was amazing, room was spotless and food and service very good!
- hannahmE6967PY (10/5): - I had a fantastic stay at premier inn last month. Room was spotless and the staff are outstanding especially Danny who gave us such a warm welcome and was so helpful answering all our questions.
- trevorp325 (6/5): - Being a company and having staff stop there for 9 nights I would expect the rooms to be cleaned and towels changed regularly without asking. We work outside in a dusty dirty environment and also work long hours leaving at 6 in the morning and arriving back around 6pm and would not expect to have to try and find staff to request a clean of the room or towels to be replaced. I would have thought with health and hygiene laws this should be mandatory for anyone stopping more than one night without having to request this
- 190Craig (2/5): All round bad experience - Very limited parking.
Check in was appalling very under staffed.
Room wasn’t ready on arrival.
Chaos in reception area.
When got in room everything was acceptable just about, not very clean.
Bar and restaurant closed and no offer of water while waiting for the room.
- T4800VLjennieb (10/5): Great Stay & Lovely Staff! :-) - Super understanding and friendly staff on the evening and next morning shifts. I am currently disabled due to having had recent leg surgery, and they let me use the disabled bathroom (not the one I had booked) so I could shower last minute, at no extra cost. They even offered to help assist me which was so appreciated! The room I stayed in was quiet and had everything needed for a one night stay on route to Scotland. The room/bathroom was clean and there were plenty of towels/cosy pillows. There were clear instructions about registering our car reg numbers on arrival. We arrived/checked in late at night and there was not much parking available outside this Premier Inn, but the staff said we could park where the nearest restaurant was... no issues.
I would highly recommend the place to others and happily return in the future! Thank you :-)
- davilou (8/5): Ok but NO BREAKFAST facility - Clean tidy(but dated) hotel with comfy bed..No aircon but electric fan provided.Friendly receptionist.
Please note there is NO BREAKFAST available at this hotel even though your confirmation email will state breakfast available. There's a petrol station next door where we bought coffees and waffles in the morning.
- ridley2015 (8/5): A great place to spend the night - We were so glad to reach this nightstop on our way to Blackpool. The bed gave us a good very good night’s sleep and the location was quiet. The room was very large, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large and the shower produced lots of hot water. We ate dinner and breakfast at the next door restaurant, Brewers Fayre. The menu was extensive and not expensive.
- KeithJones456 (10/5): The usual high standard at J27 - Not the most modern hotel but very, very clean and quiet with great views at the back overlooking the fields. Staff are second to none. Biggest downfall is a lack of cheap eateries. The Hickory's next door is fantastic but it is very, very expensive and does not do early breakfasts (bad for business people)
- DavidD578 (8/5): Overnighter - Stop over ,clean enough ,tv is minuscule ,staff very friendly and helpful ,no restaurant on site and nowhere within walking distance ,very noisy night we were there ,next door decided to make a porno so the walls are paper thin or someone screams very loud
- paultA2023WE (10/5): Great stay - friendly staff - helpful staff - clean tidy hotel and room.
Hotel has easy access to M6, other major routes and local town and facilities
plenty of parking - ease of check in
lots of choice of eating places within a short drive
would stay here again
- mel37 (10/5): The friendliest staff - Staff are friendly and so helpful , I’ve stayed here a few times due to hospital appointments and everytime the staff always go over and above. The restaurant is having an upgrade which should make it even better. The rooms are what you would expect from a premier inn and have everything you need.
- FreddyJones02 (10/5): Visiting Family - Came up to visit my family again, I have stayed here plenty times before and the staff are so lovely! Perfect location as it’s just off the motorway. I will continue to stay here every time I’m visiting. Keep up the good work me and my wife will be back soon!
- Vikie12789 (10/5): Good - Fast check in, friendly staff clean room. There is no restaurant available but that was not a problem. We had comfortable and quiet stay. Shower pressure was super and there was extra pillows as well. Room was a bit small and very small TV. Bed was very comfortable
- 56rayb (6/5): Feels like it's on its last legs - One of the oldest Premier Inns I've stayed in in a long time.
Handily located near the m6 but feels like the building hasn't had anything done to it since it was built. Everything just felt old and tired right down to the massive block you are given with your key to keep a hold of it.
No food venue next door due to renovation so no breakfast option as the place is a building site and at night there are only 10 parking spaces out front so the overspill car park is down a dark lane.
- marmarisestateagent (10/5): Enjoyable, clean and comfortable - Well the awful reviews have disappeared and so I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel was. Travelled with Caledonian and everything was good. The rooms have fan heaters above the wardrobe if it’s too cold as heating comes on for a few hours in the evening and morning. Food was good and chef very friendly too! But of a struggle with just 1 coffee machine at breakfast tho. Room and bedding were spotlessly clean. Tony M was our entertainer and had everyone dancing and did a great performance. Well done to the staff and thank you
- MCB8 (10/5): Very Good - This is a small outdated Premier Inn which needs to be modernised but this is more than made up for by its location - very handy for the motorway- our room was quiet we had a warm welcome, housekeeping staff were very pleasant and our room clean and comfortable
The site is shared with a currently closed former ‘Hungry Horse’ awaiting conversion to a ‘Hickory Smokehouse’ so it’s without kerb appeal and the nearest dining option is directly across the road at ‘Dish Bar and Restaurant’ where we enjoyed excellent breakfast and evening meal offerings
