Guest Reviews
- angelakirkbride02018 (10/5): Great value/location/staff - Value for money & exceptional staff.
Great location.
In process of renovation but no disturbance caused during our stay.
- waynehP7395GD (4/5): Newcastle. Quayside - I stayed here last weekend. Hotel is dated could do with a good refurb, I don't know the last time the windows were cleaned they were very dirty indeed. I stayed on the 1st floor above the Slug and lettuce which was quite noisy on the Saturday night. Breakfast was amazing
- AKC949 (2/5): Do not accept room 405 - The hotel itself is a good location, although inside is a bit old and creaky.
I was allocated room 405 with my partner. On arrival we heard an extremely loud noise coming from a door opposite our room which was marked private. It sounded like a laundry room, so we assumed the noise would stop during the rest of our stay. We quickly got changed after check in, and left the hotel at 15.30. We spend the night in Newcastle at City Hall, and had food and drinks. We returned to the hotel around midnight to hear the noise was still ongoing from the room. The only person in reception was security. My partner and I attempted to drown out the noise and attempted to sleep. Unfortunately, as the night went on, the noise was so obvious and unbearable. It completely affected our sleep. As it got later and later it became pointless even attempting to request a room change, which didn't seem possible anyway due to only security being in the reception area.
This experience ruined my partners birthday, and room 405 should be put out of use if the private room continues to be used.
- O6871GDjulieb (10/5): Steeped in culture and character with really nice old building features combined with keen and attentive staff. - Premier inn at Newcastle Quayside. Lovely refurbished room. Clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the river and the glass house ( formerly the sage ) . There were new cocktails to try and eager and attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble at breakfast and food was cooked to order perfectly.
I came back to the hotel bar for drinks after my concert and the building may be old but it’s so full of character with lots of the old features of the building still in place . More atmosphere than some of the newer build premier inns I have stayed in down south. Over all I loved my 1 night stay and can’t wait to do it again.
- 654leanned (10/5): Fantastic - Fantastic stay, lovely rooms. A big shout out to Amanda for making my stay so enjoyable. Thank you, will definitely be back again
- gillottfamily (10/5): Premier Inn Newcastle - I looked at the reviews but knew it was being updated. We were given a newly updated room with river view then our shower broke. So responsive and quickly moved us to another updated room with a river view which had an even better view.
We did the breakfast and updated to evening meal deal.Food was good and good selection.
The venue of the Hotel was amazing just by the Tyne fantastic walk out along the bridges.
The staff were amazing, it was an extremely busy hotel all three nights with business groups, workers and travellers.
They just worked so hard to presentation professional service even when you could see their capacity was stretched at times.
Would recommend this Priemer Inn highly.
- 511janetteb (10/5): Great location, good rooms, great staff and value for money - Great location, over looking the river, staff are very friendly, accomading and welcoming, the room have just have a make over, it was very clean and spacious, and it was great value for money, there was a happy hour on in the bar, with 2 cocktails for £12, very good value for money, we had a great night, the breakfast was also good and a great price making it a great stay
- Janet (10/5): - Room was very clean and comfortable.
- S4177GDpaulw (2/5): Great Location very dated Bedrooms - We stayed with Friends last weekend 15th November. First time in Newcastle had a great time and hotel is situated in a great location for getting about etc and there is some really nice bars and restaurants at the Quay side. However the Bedroom 124 was the worst Premier Inn bedroom I have ever stopped in and I have stopped in a lot. It was like something from the 90's!!
Very old tired decor and furniture, bathroom mouldy and old shower curtain on a runner that don't run and a shower that just spits water. I have paid a lot less than £150 and had a much better room.
- 444geoffl (4/5): Been to many Premier Inns but this'takes the biscuit'! - My son booked the room for him and I : him for one night and me for two nights. I tripped up the steps going in (insufficient lighting) and injured my knee. The reception looked as though it could do with a refurb. The room was twin-bedded and very small, which meant having to go sideways along the wall to get into one bed. The television did not work. Going down to reception to report this, the manager arrived after 30 minutes but couldn't repair it and explained he'd have to report it to the mechanic the next day. There was a mix-up around room service as we staying different nights - all towels were unusable. The same manager from the previous night reluctantly gave me towels. I asked if the television had been repaired. He said he didn't know. I asked how he didn't know. Had the mechanic been informed. The reply I got was "You will not believe the day I've had since I've come on. I've been very busy!" I told him that wasn't what I asked him. He turned around and left me there. Rude!
We went to attend a family funeral, bad enough, but the experience at this 'tatty' hotel and rude staff, didn't make for a pleasant experience.
- maxbL5218QG (2/5): Terrible! - We booked the hotel a good while before hand. A week before our arrival we received an email saying there was building work, so may be some noise. When we arrived there was a sign at reception to say the water will be off from 12noon!! The receptionist said this would only be for 15 minutes at 12noon. In the morning at about 11:15am the water was off. No shower, no toilet flush. Disgusting and unacceptable.
- 675athenaa (6/5): Good hotel for a business trip - Pretty nice hotel, cleanliness could have been better but great breakfast and friendly staff. Water turned off for the afternoon which I was not pre-warned about.
- C4762IFchristopherr (10/5): Lovely rooms, lovely visit! - Amazing refurbished rooms, clean and helpful friendly staff, we had a lovely stay. We stay almost every year and always return. Staff always friendly! Water pressure in bathrooms needs looking at though.
- 5donnao (8/5): Enjoyable stay - After reading awful reviews I was worried but...our room was lovely recently refurbished & clean...had breakfast & evening meal both spot on. The staff were really friendly. Excellent location.
- AngusK2915 (8/5): Love the upgrades, poor water pressure - Loved the newly refurbished rooms, and the Prem Plus is (in my opinion) well worth the modest uplift in cost. The only problem is that since the renovations the water pressure has really dropped off, and taking a shower is a miserable experience. Hopefully this will improve soon!
- Navigate18069931479 (4/5): Not recommended - This hotel was not at all premier inns usual standards it was dirty and dated. Our room was clean but had a heater in that started banging at 5am and woke me up with a start it then kept banging for the rest of the night making it very difficult to sleep. The bar seats were falling apart and thread bear and the bar toilets were disgusting. This morning I went to open the fire door that led to the lift and it wouldn’t open. I therefore pushed it harder and the closing mechanism snapped off hitting my husband on the shoulder. It was no more than a 2 star hotel. I understand it’s an old building and needs work but that is no excuse for being so dirty and so run down the prices however do not reflect the standard of the hotel. I would have complained at checkout but there were no staff on reception!!! Next time I’ll book the travelodge up the road it looked far superior!!!
- Curious03700910190 (2/5): Disgusted - We booked this hotel and on arrival were allocated a very small room which had no resemblance to the pictures shown on the website for this hotel. The bathroom was very dated and worn, the carpet was worn, we couldn't see out the window as it was so dirty, there were no glasses in the room, and in general the room was not fit for purpose. The wardrobe only had 3 hangers and the remote control for the TV was faulty. The main staircase to the rooms was very dirty and the corridors were not much better. The hotel gave the impression of a very run down, low budget building. We asked if any other rooms were available but were told the hotel was fully booked.
We checked out one hour later and moved to another hotel.
After complaining to guest relations team, we were basically told we were made aware of the refurbishment in advance and given a token £35 refund. Premier Inns were always our go to hotel but I am so disgusted with their service that I will never book a Premier Inn again.
- I8772UEwaynet (10/5): Lovely meal, great value. - Excellent great value meal. Super service from Tom. Will definetly come back. Some great meals for just a fiver! Like going back in time!
- Kevmitch1 (2/5): Not usual Premier inn standard - The hotel itself is the filthiest premier inn we have ever stayed in. Can always bank on the Premier inn having good rooms, focus on cleanliness and comfortable beds, this was not the case in this hotel. The building itself has a sign saying it’s under some sort of upgrade but our room was way below expectations. We had hair in the bath, lipstick marks on the wall and just a generally unclean looking room. All the walls were dirty in the bedroom and bathroom and the corridors are the same. We were only the hotel for one evening on our way further south but I will not use this hotel again.
- drowlands1 (10/5): Perfect for our needs - We stopped here for a stay over on the way up to Scotland. The hotel is easy to find. Plenty of parking. There’s a pub next door which we didn’t try, serves food including breakfast.
Staff were friendly. I’m not sure if this branch has been refurbished or if it’s new, it comes across very fresh for a premier inn.
Comfy bed as always, very quiet environment. Met our basic needs perfectly.
- U5353CBkevins (10/5): Premier Inn Fred Archer Way best Premier Inn ever - The staff at Premier inn and Table Top Restaurant were absolutely amazing
The premier plus rooms were excellent and well worth the extra money, the food was one of the best meals we have ever had in Premier I|nn.
Would recommend to anyone to go there and stay
- P9804LEkarenw (10/5): Great staff - Friendly and helpful staff. Especially Sue. Clean and up to date rooms make you feel treated well whilst away from home. Thank you
- 527kerries (2/5): Massive investment needed. Poor. - Grim. The staff are the only redeeming feature unfortunately.
Location
- Quayside, across from the river Tyne and at the side of the Tyne bridge.
Roadside, lots of outside noise.
Rooms -
Tired, dated, scruffy. I honestly felt unclean in mine. Second floor, 236. The carpet was ick. Bedding looked clean. The room had that unwashed stale smell about it, I didn't walk barefoot on the carpet, I darent. The windows are filthy, skirting boards unkempt and window frames are old, chipped and in dire need of updating. No double glazing so the room loses heat fast, and outside noise is constant. A wall heater is supplied as the central heating monitor is broken. The bathroom was clean enough and clean towels, but its like putting an elastoplast over a bullet wound. A rubbish night's sleep due to the noise outside from traffic, drunks and constant police sirens.
Hallways - again, tired, dated, worn carpets, stale smell.
Restaurant - usual premier inn set up, plentiful but unremarkable.
Staff - the only redeeming feature. Friendly, welcoming but fighting a losing battle at this site.
In general, this premier inn needs a massive overhaul. Its clearly seen better days, needs massive updating measures, a thorough deep clean and renovation. For a central position the prices are disgusting and do not reflect the standard that most premier inns deliver. Shame on you as a corporation Premier Inn. Invest, invest, and invest urgently.
£170 for 2 nights midweek is daylight robbery. You should be strictly audited here. That may prompt you to bring the building, the interiors, and standards up to date and in line with value for hard earned money!
- grahambB2225TV (8/5): Undergoing much needed upgrade. - Well located. Chargeable parking available. The hotels is currently undergoing an upgrade and it needs it. The room we stayed in was well below what I have come to expect from Premier Inn.
- 492libbyg (2/5): Stay away - Premier inn are always my first choice. But this venue will definitely be my last choice. Awful experience. Was firstly double charged. 5 days later nobody apparently knows what's happening with my refund. Weekend had to be cut short because our spending money was taken out our account. So explaining that to 2 autistic children wasnt fun.
Room was dated. Bathroom had mould all over the bath. Floor the same obviously had been flooded on more than one occasion , lino bubbled and bits falling off the bath panels. Accessibility isnt the best either. My son in a wheelchair had to access the lift alone.
Staff didn't seem bothered. The kindest person I spoke to was a Scottish workman.
Dont rush here. And pay by cash if you do.
- Fearless25845550890 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE! - I was mortified. I recently stayed in a premier inn in edinburgh which was great.
This location however was disgusting.
How can the standards be allowed to differ so much??
The cleaners all need their eyes testing.
What a vile room!
See the pictures!
We got a 50% refund which is still a joke.
Even at breakfast, the cushions on the chairs were falling apart.
CEO of premier inn, I beg you to invest in a revamp of this site. It is horrendous!
An embarrassment to your brand.
- 95shellw (2/5): SHOULD NOT BE OPEN - Checked in Friday 3rd, room dirty, shower has no hot water, slightly warmer out of sink, asked to be moved and was even worse, how they can justify allowing people to stay here is a joke, legal action being taken for the £81 they had the cheek to charge me, unfortunately due to late time and restricted time I didn't have time to find somewhere else
- 567phoebew (10/5): Great stay - A special thankyou to Sue for such a warm welcome. Lovely refurbished room which was clean and cosy. We will be back again soon.
- We881e (10/5): Great hotel - Sue is a star ! - Great location for a quiet stop over, which we do quite regularly visiting family. Very recently refurbished. Reasonably priced and a fantastic reception staff. Particular call out to Sue who offers fantastic service time after time, with a smile and courtesy.
Staff at the Gretna Green restaurant on site are very friendly and helpful too.
- K1841ZXgeorgiar (10/5): Amazing. Perfect. As always. - I stay here often and I get the same amazing service every time. This time Angela went above and beyond, and the rest of the team for having my room ready so beautiful and clean when I checked in early. They were also short staffed on this day and Angela did her best to make my stay perfect. Thank you so much.
- Lesley-Phil (10/5): Lovely refurbished hotel. With lovely staff - The hotel was newly refurbished and we could smell the new carpets as we entered . Sue the receptionist was warm , and welcoming but surprised when my American friend asked for an ice bucket and escalator which they did not have . The room was newly decorated to a high standard and the new bathroom had all mod cons . The shower was a little slow but hot . The sheets and towels were spotless and clean . We had all we needed and an extra biscuits from lovely Sue .
The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Excellent value for money . We shall return
Thank you Lesley and Julie
- 739trudieg (8/5): Quayside stay , a steep walking into centre. - It was a convenient place for a night in the city at an event. We know the city well, so it wasn't too difficult to navigate from hotel to where we wanted to be.
quite away from some of the more popular bars and restaurants and there's a very steep path into the main entertainment and shopping areas so probably not good if you have mobility issues. However, if you're wanting to be on the quayside for events, or don't mind a bit of steep walking it's ideal.
The Quayside market on Sundays is on the doorstep
The hotel itself is undergoing upgrades which didn't affect our stay but are probably timely.
The room is exactly what you'd expect. Not luxurious but functional with a very comfy bed.
We did have breakfast ,which is really very good value for money and very tasty.
- annbU3950RE (8/5): Above and beyond expectations - Exactly what you’d hope to find at a Premier Inn… clean rooms, plenty of parking and a nice welcome. This Premier Inn went above and beyond this! A newly refurbished building with a great welcome and a small treat in our room upon arrival. Staff were always keen to help and remembered small details that made our one night stay super relaxed. Sam, Angela and the team run this place brilliantly. We will be frequent visitors to the north and will be back! Thanks
- E5141BOanthonyd (10/5): Thanks You Premier Inn - For the last couple of year have been. staying at Premier Inn Newmarket. This is place is home away from home the Rooms are excellent and the staff even better. This is a shout out to Sandra the receptionist who is such a lovely person with a great sense of humor. Cheers to everyone involved!!!
- kathrynmJ77CE (10/5): Brilliant experience - Lovely hotel, the rooms were comfortable, modern and clean and provided the perfect stopover. Breakfast was good value for money. Sue at check in was absolutely brilliant, friendly, kind and efficient which we were so grateful for, particularly arriving in the pouring rain after a long journey with a 2 year old! Thanks so much.
- sami515 (8/5): Decent Premier inn - First time at this Premier inn and it was a pretty good stay.
The room looked refurbished, was spacious, clean and the bed comfortable.
I'm not sure who is redesigning these rooms but they are poor compared to the old Premier inn rooms. There is zero storage, no wardrobe no drawers just a unit that serves no real purpose. The bed side tables are so narrow they are totally pointless. There is also so much wasted space it's rediculous. The bathroom is nice and refurbed but why keep a bath with the shower over it.
No safe, fridge or water in a premier plus room at almost £100 a night is not value for money.
We also had a meal in the pub and it was poor.
If you're staying a night or two it's fine but you couldn't stay longer unless you want to live out of a suitcase.
- vincentlS805BO (10/5): Great - The room was spacious and very clean. Sue was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the stay even better. The only area for improvement would be the water pressure, but overall it was a great experience.
- joannagB9529ME (10/5): Best one i have come across - By far best premier inn i have stayed in over last 8 years for work, newly refurbished, very fresh new look, comfy bed and super soft towels, room its self is the cleanest i have come across im not one to moan about a bit of dust here and there but can say happily they is none in this room. All chrome parts in bathroom are shiney and clean no rust or leaks mirros all clean cant complain( these are common things i have come across in other premier inns) Receptionist sue thank you for your time today very polite and professional goes out of her way to help others was noticed not just with myself but others too, i dont normally talk to people during my stays but found myself having a wonderful conversation with sue, receptionist i have come across in past havent been so polite so i do thank you for making my work stay pleasant, relaxing and taking time to talk with me
- 154gilliank (10/5): Dave gave exceptional customer service - We are family of 5 stayed last weekend for 3 nights for Great North Run 2025, hotel very clean and staff were very friendly. Nothing too much trouble, Dave helped us to fix my son’s toy making him a very happy boy. He was very friendly and I greatly appreciated his help. Excellent customer service by all staff would definitely recommend!
- Jet64417347148 (10/5): Good and convenient hotel - Have stayed here several times. Upgraded to a Premier Plus room - these are on the top floor so you avoid noisy neighbours above you (which has been a minor issue in this hotel in the past). You also get some mini upgrades over a “standard” room - a Nespresso coffee maker, fridge with water, chocolates etc. the interesting thing is some upgrades I would expect in standard rooms - premier rooms have USB charging points, but standard rooms do not. Also - premier rooms have a really good shower, but no bath!
Breakfast on the ground floor is very good and well organised. In a town that has several ‘posh end’ hotels - this is convenient and reasonably priced (on a non- race day).
Only minor issue - I stayed for 2 nights and had thought my room would be ‘made up’ after the first night…….but you do have to expressly ask for this at reception - the door hanger does not actually make housekeeping do this.
- yvonnehO7628QE (10/5): Great overnight to split our journey up north to Scotland. - Ideal stopover for one night to break the journey.
Lovely clean hotel
Pub on same site.
Premier plus room fabulous and comfy bed as always and come chairs.
- Cruiser50307651791 (10/5): Thanks Angela and team. - A lovely welcome from Angela and her friendly team, clean, spacious and well equipped room. Appreciated the 12 noon checkout. Would definitely recommend this hotel when visiting the area.
- edmundd529 (8/5): Pleasant for a quick overnight stay - Arrived at 1am, night staff friendly and efficient. Free parking was plentiful. I stayed on the first floor and the room was in very good condition and clean. Overlooking fields so reasonably quiet away from the road. The only disappointment was the low water pressure in the shower, which was just about adequate to wash off the soap. I left early so didn’t try breakfast. I would stay here again.
- clarebB5863ZV (10/5): Really pleasant stay - Lovely clean and recently renovated rooms. Staff were welcoming and had fruit shoots on arrival and chocolate biscuits for the kids. Breakfast was nice the next morning. Great value for money. We’ll be staying there again when visiting family.
- G3527RUandrewg (10/5): Great - Great place to stay very clean and good friendly staff, breakfast at the pub was very good lots to choose from would recommend and would stay there again.
- jennyd2901 (4/5): Wouldn't stay fair again. - Very disappointed with my stay.
The check-in experience was extremely poor. The receptionist clearly needs more customer service training. Being rude and abrupt is unacceptable.
Plug in the sink wouldn't open. The rooms have generally been neglected.
I stay in many hotels including different Premier Inn, the worst I have stayed in.
- Smjae2015 (8/5): Friendly staff! - Friendly staff. Happy to help resolve an issue on arrival with the bedroom door & door lock not locking/ working as it should. The issue was swiftly sorted and a new room provided.
Slight issue with mould around the window in the room & bathroom. Perhaps some routine maintenance to replace the mastics. Car parking across the road. Was lucky enough to get one of the free bays allocated to the hotel. Otherwise lovely stay. Would definitely stop again if in the area.
- 705pennyw (2/5): Terrible and Overpriced - Terrible. Receptionist off hand. Pillow hard. Shower looked great but poor pressure so drippy. Bin hadn't been emptied from last occupant. Nothing to drink from. The only upside was the lovely overnight person. He was friendly and VERY helpful. Breakfast was appalling. Price was high, should have stayed in a decent hotel. Stayed a lot in Premier Inns over the years particularly Scarboro every month for a couple of yeard but may never stay in one again.
- SJH1952 (6/5): Good in places but not for dinner - This Premier Inn was up to expected standard in every way - well almost. Staff friendly and helpful. Parking very close but if the limited free parking is all taken it’s only £3.40 a day to park in the same car park.
Breakfast was as expected and good value, BUT, dinner for our party of 8 was a real disappointment. Friday evening and a very quiet TableTable restaurant but none of us could select from the menu what we wanted. The waiter was apologetic but was fortunate that none of us made a scene - too patient. I wanted a chicken curry- none left. Naan bread - none. Rice - none. Cooking oil for other meals — run out! I reluctantly had a vegetable curry (mainly squash) which I left with a few bits of chicken thrown in. Without rice it had to be chips. Instead of a naan I was offered a flat bread but, you guessed it, not available. With a Waitrose across the road it was clearly not policy for the chef to pop out a buy the missing ingredients. Company policy was obviously that it’s better to disappoint the guests than buy locally in an emergency.
- jerrya955 (10/5): Fantastic service - What fantastic service we received from Jenny and her staff, 17 hairy, hungry bikers and she helped all get fed and watered with a smile on her and all the staffs faces. Thankyou so much for your patience. I would recommend the restaurant time and again 😁
- alexnF3164VR (10/5): All round good hotel worth the £ - The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
They helped me as I had an issue with the date I booked it for lucky enough they helped me with that and managed to change the date.
- karencB8783ZW (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Spacious, clean and air conditioned rooms, lovely friendly staff. Right next a a supermarket and multi-storey which was very handy (free parking in multi story for hotel guests). Tbh it was a refreshing surprise as our expectations were low after a previous stay at another premier inn, this one was amazing!
- E2557IBandreww (2/5): Better than sleeping in a field - Make sure arrive in good time if you want to drink or eat. The staff here work on the basis you have to have finished your food/drink by closing time (9 for food 10 for drinks). Most places would take orders until closing toi=ime and then allow time to drink up.
Staff more interest in arguing with each other than looking after guests other than at breakfast when the chap (sorry did not get his name) could not have been more helpful. He even filled my wife water bottle for her because we forgot to do it whilst having breakfast.
- PeterM3484 (8/5): Decent stay - The hotel is well positioned for all amenities. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Our only complaint the bed quilts were slightly small and kept waking up to readjust them. The staff were very pleasant, and the car park is close by. A good value for money hotel.
- Y3198BVchristinem (6/5): It was an ok stay - Firstly the bedroom wasn’t closed when we arrived. It turned out the lock was not functioning correctly. Couldn’t lock the door properly wasn’t shutting correctly we had to wedge the spare bed against it. Reported to reception no further rooms available till the following day.
No butter in the restaurant for breakfast!! Supplier issue. So many day nitts outside the hotel looks like months worth of collection!!
- V1569WQtima (10/5): Fantastic Experience - This was my very first experience at a Premier Inn, I have to say I am so impressed with the whole experience.
From being greated by the Amazing Louise on reception and getting a nice chilled cup of water and been very impressed with my room, bed and all facilities the cleaning standards were also extremely high.
Well done team Newmarket.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Tim
- aligD6272RD (10/5): Best Premier Inn in the UK - I stay in Premier Inns pretty much every week and nothing has ever compelled me to write a review.
This time I just had to come to say what a great stay I had. The rooms are everything you expect from a Premier Inn, but the staff were above and beyond. So friendly and helpful.
Can’t recommend it enough
- TJBPRC (10/5): Excellent. - Staff were excellent at check in, the room was clean, well equipped and the air conditioning was very good on an extremely warm night.
- peekaboo123uk (10/5): No issues - Great hotel and staff breakfast as always great clean friendly no issues nice tables plenty to choose from poached eggs just right coffee good
- LYG150 (10/5): Perfect - Wonderful greeting from receptionist, very professional and first class service. Room was easy to find and a lift if you required one. The rooms were clean and had everything you needed. We didn't eat at the hotel on this occasion. Parking was convenient, but as the parking is first come first served, you will struggle especially on race days. On the whole, great hotel and perfectly situated for a stay in Newmarket.
