Guest Reviews
- loversofsunshine (8/5): another good stay - another good stay and this hotel
could do with a bit of tlc
as its looking a bit tried in places
but nothing that distracts from the quality of the stay staff very friendly and helpful
plenty of parking as well
- 930duncang (10/5): Lovely comfortable stay. Good food. Lovely staff. - When we arrived we discovered that we had booked the wrong day. However the young man on reception said that there was only one room that was available and that it hadn't been cleaned. He walked us to the adjoining restaurant, sorted out our meal deal and, when we were eating, he made up the room and even took our cases to the room.
The room was clean, warm and comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. All was hot and tasty. The staff were helpful and kind.
- X4012HYjohnb (2/5): Dundee North Premier Inn. - No air conditioning, no restaurant available throughout our 3 day stay and very noisy with cars racing around half the night.
- wendyheal (10/5): Family trip to Fife - Great hotel. Convenient, reasonably priced and located near various fast food eateries, handy when you don’t want to drive after a LONG car journey.
Clean and spacious rooms, our room was cleaned daily (we stayed Mon-Fri).
Lifts to all floors - really handy if you have lots of luggage.
We would stay here again.
- paulrS5821LA (2/5): Don’t bother staying here - No catering facilities at this hotel . Pub next door not part of premier inn .
No breakfast available
Evening service stop at 7pm
Building site outside as even McDonald’s was closed
- yogasue2014 (8/5): An ok stay with no complaints. - Overall a perfectly acceptable stay. The room was clean and tidy, although there was a tear in the centre of the duvet cover which, although not a complaint, didn’t look very good. The carpet by the desk was slightly stained and there were some mould spots around the edge of the bath. The remote was tricky but mastered eventually. That said, the bed was comfortable and clean, the staff friendly, and the food in the beefeater next door was great, the place was just a little tired. Ok for the price though.
- MarkH4508 (8/5): Family stay - Hotel easy to find, nice and close to A1 which is a plus.
Check in was smooth and easy.
Room was as expected clean and tidy, couldn't get heating to work as room was slightly chilly ( later found out no batteries in control panel).
All staff we saw were very polite and pleasant.
I would definitely stay again at this hotel if needed to.
- NorthEastMike (8/5): Decent stay - I’m in Durham quite a lot with work and tend to stay here regularly. It’s a solid Premier Inn, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and check in is always straightforward. Staff are friendly and make things easy, which is a big plus when you’re in and out a lot. Location works well for getting into the city quickly, and there’s plenty of parking which is handy. Nothing overly fancy, but it’s reliable, quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, and good value for the area.
- P6360ZRhayleym (10/5): Had a lovely stay - Our booking was booked via a 3rd party (which we wont be doing again)who decided to cancel it the night before our stay and hadnt told us,so when we arrived from dumfries there was no booking..thankfully even altho nearly fully booked premier inn managed to reinstate our booking or it would have been a lomg drive back home lol,was my daughters 5th birthday same day and they decorated her room with banners and teddy balloons n some sweets for her...was very much appreciated..and after a stressful half hour of arriving ,we had an amazing stay, staff were all lovely xx
- Shifftee (8/5): Average good Premier Inn experience - It's your standard, good Premier Inn. Everything you'd expect. All as expected. Just a real big downside was a hot, sweaty night because the room was really hot. Outside temperature wasn't warm but the room was boiling. Temperature controls can only increase the heat and not cool the room. Fan on all night and window open but was really hot anyways.
- helenlouiset (10/5): Stop on the way to Scotland - Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Quiet neighbourhood but retail park with Tescos, Starbucks etc a few minutes drive away. Plenty of parking and reasonably priced. Recommended.
- moxymin (8/5): Unusually good weather for Scotland - Visiting for a friends birthday so only at the hotel to sleep and stayed Wednesday to Saturday. Seems to be used more for workers away from home during the week with eating places a few metres from the hotel. Was busier as I left as there was a music festival and concerts on in the city from the Friday night. The weather for Scotland was gorgeous and despite keeping the curtains closed during the day, it was very warm overnight despite, having a room fan( no air con ), and south facing over the car park. No wi-fi available during my stay but was aware of this when I booked and certainly wasn’t a deterrent to staying. Overall bed and room comfortable and wouldn’t put me off staying again.
- carlyw874 (8/5): Terrible WiFi but nice hotel - Friendly welcome from a nice young man behind the desk. Clean and comfortable room. Bath plus shower was good. Tv was decent size for room.. although kept losing signal. Id paid extra for unlimited WiFi.. but I shouldn't have bothered as it either didnt work, or was very slow.
Cinema, fast food places and restaurant all on the doorstep. Would stay again.. had a nice stay
- _ros_allen (6/5): Good but needs refurb. - Still think this to be the best Premier Inn in Durham. But that saying….
Room ok; fluffy towels, clean cotton sheets, comfortable bed, good pillows. Tele a pain.
No aircon but fan, no loo brush, no fridge, no glasses for wine; negotiating the shower could be difficult for active oldies, bring everything you need including tissues. And WD40 for shower tap?
Needs a refurb. But clean.
No lift. If female with luggage, ask for lower floor.
Nice staff. Reception manned 24/7 appreciated.
- varf (10/5): Good stay - Good stay here as in area for a family party! Staff helpful and room very spacious and clean. Location suited us and were able to access bus to avoid using the car on our second day. Eatery next door but did not find it as good as would have hoped. Easy to get into city so did not bother us too much
- B3603VDcarolel (10/5): Great experience - Rooms clean, the staff were polite, friendly and informative. This Prenier Inn is perfectly located for going into Durham City about 6 minute drive. The breakfast at the Beefeater was great, again staff brilliant.
- WylieL4 (10/5): Wonderful 2-night stay - It's a wonderful stay. Thanks to the lady in the reception helped us both check-in and out. We felt very welcome.
The room were great too. Some of us loved the shower due to the small shower head we had at home. Great to have slow WiFi, and this led us to have more family time than internet time. Thank you very much!
- A5565AAfraserm (10/5): Brilliant staff - Really clean rooms, excellent beds, and free parking. It is a convenient location having lots of food options right on its doorstep and next to a pub so ideal for a cheeky pint after a hard days work. The receptionist AVA was a super star with a big smile and a great attitude when dealing with a slight mix up with the rooms, needless to say all was resolved quickly 👍👍
- Pearsonfamily3 (4/5): Family room not relaxing - Location- good, we booked to visit Durham and Beamish.
Restaurant - good although 2 of our choices were unavailable.
Room- clean and of a good standard however, we had booked a family room and one of the made up beds was so uncomfortable.
The worst part was the quality of sleep. The room was incredibly hot. When I reported this I was told that people normally complain because it’s cold and was asked to check the radiator. It wasn’t on. During check out, I reported it again and was told it was because we had a family room. The temperature was 26.5 degrees. We were all awake at 2am, went to sit outside at 6am and thankfully due to 12 o’clock Check out, we managed to get our children to nap so not to ruin their day.
- Mobile262429 (10/5): Excellent welcome. Great place to stay when visiting Durham. - Great, price, good value and the best thing about the place is the warm smiles and welcome from Christine at reception. Like an idiot, I left my open wallet on the counter when filling in my rental car details along with my pair of headphones. Christine brought them up to my room and saved me from a heart attack.
So grateful for the service and the honesty and integrity. Christine, you are a credit to the Premier Inn group.
- B7204IOjimn (8/5): Not too bad. Bit pricey but comfortable - A little but out of the way for our purpose meaning Uber everywhere and also a bit pricey (as was everywhere that weekend).
On the plus side a decent night's sleep, decent breakfast and helpful staff. About a tenner for an Uber to the centre of Durham.
- martinmW1760MS (8/5): Just enough but pretty basic. - Decent sleep but try to make sure you don't get any rooms facing pub entrance or you are going to be kept up. If you want staff who stay at the front desk and don't disappear then avoid this one. Manual doors so no good for wheelchair users. Baths for people who are vertically challenged. Anyone over 5ft bath is too small.
- Eddie020173 (10/5): Excellent Hotel - I was here for a day stay yesterday the hotel receptionist was very accommodating as i telephoned early that morning once I got to the hotel I had to wait as my room was still being used by the earlier night guests. The room (17) itself was a wheelchair room which was although very spacious very clean and tidy which not much noise even though other rooms on my floor were being cleaned whilst I slept the car park was ample with plenty of spaces to go round
- carola796 (10/5): Good place to stay. - The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and pleasant. We ate in the Beef water one of the nights and thoroughly enjoyed our meal . The staff there were also very friendly and efficient. We have used this hotel a few times and never been disappointed.
- Roam15970692776 (6/5): Okay but you don't get what is advertised - I really wanted to like this hotel, the first of a number we have stayed at in Germany. Unfortunately it wasn't great. Firstly it advertises as having air conditioning but that's only turned on seemingly when the temperature is hot. Fair enough you think but the rooms are incredibly hot even when the temperature outside is 5°c as it was when we stayed. Opening the windows (which only open a crack anyway) meant the extremely noisy streets mean you either suffer with the heat or get woken by the trams/busses/other traffic which is pretty much 24 hours. I raised all of this with the receptionist and was told nothing could be done. For the first time I decided to claim the premier Inn guarantee but was told I should have asked to move rooms, albeit I did and for the air conditioning to be turned on. I cannot recommend this hotel at this time of you want to sleep!
- M491XXchristopherw (8/5): Nice clean rooms, CPAP users may need to hunt for the 240 plug socket near the bed - Rooms are the usual good standard found in this chain of hotels.
IMPORTANT NOTE - If you are a CPAP user and need bedside power then you may have to look under the bed to find a 240v power outlet to run your machine. Staff member was not aware that they were there when asked. This is not the fault of the staff member and he was very apologetic and empathetic about me needing the power but was simply unaware that there was a plug available close to the bed. I ended up moving the smaller bed in the room so I could plug my machine in to the sockets under the TV, only to find a plug in the morning behind the actual bed hidden from site.
Again this wasn't the staff members fault, of he doesn't know he can't advise guests.
- RClarke100 (4/5): Worst sleep ever. Room too hot! - Travelled to this hotel after working in Aberdeen yesterday. Bar next door was superb. Excellent customer service. However, hotel was a bit of a letdown. I have stayed at this hotel twice and never had any issues. However, this stay was not the best. Big queue at reception desk and only one receptionist on the desk and could tell he was a bit stressed but he did his best to offer good customer service. The room was like a sauna when I walked in and after I got my food from McDonalds and a pint at the bar next door. I do like a warm room but not a room where I can't breathe. Far too warm. Had the window open and even had to move the fan to the bedside table to try and keep me cool. Had the worst sleep ever. Couldn't get comfortable. Maybe got 1-2 hours of sleep. Was also woken up at 6.30am due to someone ordering a McDonalds breakfast due to the intercom speaker at the drive thru being so loud and seagulls making so much noise
- stewartmF5202SQ (8/5): My Stay at the Premier inn - Absolutely amazing for the price hotel, Good location directly outside of many 24 hour food spots, Clean rooms with comfortable enough beds, staff so friendly thanks Louise and Rebecca; Will definitely be coming back, my only issue throughout my stay was my room being mildly too warm
- gillianh776 (10/5): Excellent value - Arrived to a very warm welcome by the ladies who were on duty Saturday 11 January don't know your names but you will know if you were on duty. Rooms were immaculate beds so comfortable, no complaints, will certainly return.
Beefeater, gentleman who seemed to be in charge on Saturday evening was so friendly and helpful, an asset to the company.
Breakfast Sunday morning, a tiny bit disappointing, went in at 10 am no croissants, muffins, granddaughter was looking forward to them, drinks machine was playing up, could do with an additional machine but there was lots of other continental breakfast items. There were extremely busy.
Would I return most definitely
- AngelaG2558 (10/5): Best Premier Inn Stay Ever! - Top Class Premier Inn....very welcoming by Rebecca at reception who was very friendly and made us feel so relaxed. Super comfortable beds, ideal location...with food places, restaurant, bar and cinema beside it. Can't wait to go back and highly recommended. AAA+++
- L3585KTmarkr (6/5): Oh dear, penny pinching now and so just not as nice as it was and always has been - Typical PI = Comfy bed, good shower.
Staff on day 2 morning, daytime & evening MUCH nicer than member of staff on day 1 arrival. Totally different class and exactly how staff have always been and why I have always recommended it. But...................Premier Inn.................
1) Do not try to charge guests £10 for a 'special' early check-in when it is not a 'special' early check-in. I arrived at 14.40 after a 5 hour 260 mile drive to be told that if I wanted to access my room within the next 20 minutes I MUST pay £10 and I'd have to sit and wait. That is offensive. Very offensive. I fully understand a charge for a SPECIAL early check-in at 11.00, 12.00, 13.00 and even perhaps 14.00. But 20 minutes ????????? That is simply ripping off your customers and trying to extract every penny you can.
2) Receptionists are the face of Premier Inn. So please revert back to using warm & friendly staff. On this occasion, the first ever and I've stayed here many times over the years, there was no warm & friendly nor welcoming greeting. It was cold, unwelcoming & not friendly - at all. But staff from day 2, and restaurant staff, really nice.
3) Put glasses back in the rooms. Always there were 2 mugs/cups for tea/coffee AND 2 glasses (night time water etc). But you've removed the glasses. Really NOT helpful at all.
4) Do NOT overcharge customers at breakfast without telling them. I had a continental breakfast and was told £8.99 exactly as per menu. But it turns out that I was actually charged £9.24 (25p donation - for who ? For what ??). I was NOT told anything about a 25p donation and I just tapped my debit card for the amount I was told (£8.99). So I want a refund for the overcharged 25p thank you very much.
This visit was a very disappointing visit - first time ever - and mostly due to the penny pinching attitude and absolute lack of consideration for paying guests.
- nicholassH8513NA (10/5): Great experience - Great experience from checking to checking out. Hotel very clean and staff very professional could not fault the place what's so ever. Definitely be booking again for me and my family. Restaurant next to hotel does a great breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful.
- O7006YGmarkh (8/5): Beamish - Booked 3 rooms her for family trip to explore Durham and Beamish , staff and check in excellent, room was as expected and provided great couple of nights sleep, though not as luxurious as some city centre Premier Inns , adequate car parking, and would highly recommend the Broomside pub adjacent , a real family friendly atmosphere created by all the staff there , food is excellent. Durham City centre is a very short taxi ride so all in all a great location
- 640talhah (10/5): LOVED IT - Amazing from A to Z....
Great staff Nikki, Sean and Rebecca.
Really friendly and nice.
The rooms were very comfy and clean. Very peaceful.
KFC, McDonald's, cinema and other necessities right out the door 🤣
Overall all a very good experience, recommend for Dundee
- macthistle2020 (10/5): Would stay here again, no problem. - Absolutely perfect stay, staff and sleep. The reception and cleaning staff are efficient and so helpful it was a delight to stay here, nothing was too much for them. Would recommend anyone to stay here without thinking twice.
Thank you guys so much.
- N6307PCsteveb (10/5): Excellent base for a stay in the North East - This is an excellent Premier Inn close to the A1. Very comfortable rooms, excellent shower and very friendly staff. Beefeater next door good too, maybe the price should be allowed to go up a bit to get a bit more quality but the meal deal is exceptional value.
- Y5646ILrachelm (10/5): Great comfortable budget stay - Despite 1st appearance from outside, it was a very clean, comfortable stay with lovely staff. Exceeded expectations. Bed very comfy, room clean, easy to access WiFi and temperature of room was great, with thermostat to control if required.
- paulgL8012KK (10/5): Family trip to Durham. - Our stay at Durham East Premier inn was made that extra bit special by the warm welcome we received from the moment we arrived.Inparticular the kindness of the staff at The beefeater restaurant was exceptional. We are already planning our next visit to Durham & there's only one place we'd like to stay!!Thanks once again.
- Prickles1 (10/5): TYPICAL PREMIER INN BUDGET HOTEL ON OUTSKIRTS OF DURHAM MADE EXCEPTIONAL BY ITS FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL LOCAL STAFF - The Premier Inn Durham (East) is conveniently located on the edge of the Belmont retail and business park, halfway between the A1(M) motorway and Durham city centre, on the main Go North-East 'bus route to and from the coast.
The hotel itself is a typical offering from the Premier Inn budget hotel chain, with large and clean en-suite bedrooms, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the locally-recruited staff is truly exceptional.
There is a Beefeater Restaurant adjacent to the hotel at which guests can enjoy a full, cooked English breakfast as well as a reasonably-priced, three-course evening meal. For example, an 8 oz Sirloin Steak with Chips, Garden Peas and Grilled Mushrooms costs GBP 15:99. A Banofee Cheesecake for afters will set diners back by GBP6:99.
For those travelling on business, there is the usual large workstation in each bedroom with three 240 Volt, 3-Pin electrical power outlets, plus a large flatscreen television. The HDMI feed to the television was not, however, in working order. The free wireless internet offer, provided by Virgin Media, isn't particularly fast (Download 1Mbps/Upload 0.4 Mbps/Latency 46 ms) but will do for basic tasks such as sending e-mails and Facebook messages and uploading photographs. Guests who require faster internet access can upgrade on payment of a GBP 5 per day supplement.
The en-suite bathroom contains the usual toilet, washbasin, large mirror and combined bath/shower, plus a wall-mounted 115/230 Volt 2-pin shaver socket.
There is a hospitality tray with an electric kettle in each room. Supplies of complimentary coffee, tea, sugar and milk may be obtained from reception.
- PaulSniff (10/5): Relax Recharge at the Premier Inn - We were looking for a stop off on route to Aberdeen. A warm comfortable rest after a long journey was the order of the day. The accommodation did not disappoint. We felt a warm welcome from the reception staff and enjoyed a very relaxing and comfortable nights sleep.
Thank you
- BarbaraRiekwel (8/5): Good, as expected - We stayed here before and in general we love staying at PI hotels because it’s cheap and cheerful. Room was clean and spacious and the location very convenient. We use it as a base to explore the area of wherever we are and it always has the convenience of a pub/restaurant next door.
People at reception are very friendly too
- Hebamahgoub85 (6/5): Good stay, AC is a problem! - Generally, it was great stay. I was solo and was given a triple room which provided me with plenty of space. The room was clean, except for some hair strands here and there....It was 30 plus degree Celsius and the AC was barely functioning. It was working, but not really cooling. The receptionists all politely admitted that it was somehow not cold enough for the heat and all guests had the same concern. I personally managed, but had my friend been with me who does not tolerate heat been with me we would have probably looked for alternatives. I stayed at Premier Inn Munich before it and Premier Inn Berlin after in and the AC was perfect.
