Guest Reviews
- MartinaLondon11 (2/5): Dirty Hotel Covered in Scaffolding - Another Premier Inn that has gone downhill.
No parking next to the hotel or anywhere to drop off your bags. Road outside is blocked off and the hotel is covered in scaffolding.
Room was grim, dirty bedside tables which hadn't been cleaned, dubious mold and marks around the shower screen in the bath. Carpets with stains on them and the veneer peeling off the desk in the room.
Plus heating controlled from reception. You have to come downstairs and beg at reception for them to turn it up as they keep the temperatures low to save on heating.
Once upon a time Premier Inns used to be good and now they are run by a skeleton staff with little care for the customers experience. Will probably be my last time booking one as this is the third one I've stayed in this year that was sub par.
- 776matti (10/5): Great location with friendly staff offering good value for money - Great location. Within walking distance of Chipping Norton High street. Rooms were clean with a very comfy mattress and great shower.
Breakfast was varied with friendly staff on hand if needed.
Parking is £4.50/24Hrs which was very reasonable.
- courtneywQ7913LZ (10/5): Top class - Absolutely amazing staff here! Always made to feel very welcome. Top quality service!! Thank you guys!!!!!! 5***********
- chlow744 (10/5): Amazing stay - Amazing stay, rooms are very clean and the hotel is well looked after the staff. We had dinner on the evening and the food was cooked to perfection and a great value for money, big well done to the chef Lula. Location is close to the town (3min walking) distance but very quietlocation. Breakfast was superb, can't fault it! Big thank you to Marina for looking after us the whole stay, you are an absolute gem to the company!
Overall amazing experience and thank you for our amazing experience.
- ianhG7145QT (10/5): Another very pleasant stay at Premier inn, Chipping Norton - Laura and all her team are always very helpful, they always respond to any requests promptly with no hesitation whatsoever
- J9357RYleeg (10/5): Great stay - My stay was excellent. I couldnt faault it at all. The staff were very warm and welcoming. Laura the mananager went above and beyond, very happy and smiley and always stopping for a chat when we saw here. Kudos to all staff involved. I will definatly recommend and be staying again ☆☆☆☆☆
- I8658IUamandap (10/5): Fantastic stay, highly recommend - We had a great stay in a wonderful location. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Pauline. The hotel and rooms were clean and tidy. Would definitely stay here again.
- andrewmN3632RJ (2/5): Worst Premier Inn I have ever stayed in - This Premier Inn is the worst one I have ever stayed in, no food available (even though the web site says they are and meal deals are advertised as you go in), thin walls- you can hear people speaking in the room next door. The rooms are also very small. I would recommend that anyone wanting to stay here look elsewhere.
- janemV9710KQ (2/5): Go elsewhere - This Premier Inn is pretty grim. Rooms are very small and bathrooms are tiny, would not look out of place in a camper van. There are no power plugs by the bed (essential if you use a sleep apnea mask). Reasonably clean, I would use other Premier Inns nearby. On arrival we were told that the freezer had broken in the nearby Monkey Puzzle, and that they were only serving drinks. Presumably this will also apply tomorrow morning for breakfast. Ordered a takeout which was ok. Walls are paper thin, can hear a family having a heated debate next door. Not anticipating a good nights sleep, whatever they advertise.
- Jet15461397915 (10/5): Perfect experience - I had a brilliant experience at the premiere inn in chipping Norton. The staff were excellent and very polite especially Laura which is the duty manager. She was just the most helpful and did the up most best for us. Would definitely stay there again!
- PrinnyPree (2/5): Damp rooms - The room was dangerously damp you are hit by the smell of damp when you enter the room, there was no room alternative so we had to stay there or sleep in the car which isn't really a choice with a 5 year old. I had trouble breathing in the morning.
- mrsw288 (6/5): Horrible smell in bathroom - Location good for The Farmers Dog pub.
Hotel bathroom had a very strong smell of drains. Complained to the reception staff and they said they would look into it. Smell did not go all the time we stayed there.
Had to ask for our room to be cleaned. The receptionist said we were late leaving our room and he would ‘see what they could do’.
On arriving back to our room that evening, we had clean towels and our bed made (with the same dirty sheets).
We were not given clean cups, spoons or had our teas and coffees topped up.
- alansQ4074VO (10/5): The best reunion ever - We arrived and were greeted at reception at 3pm as per booking. 3rd floor room, (quiet and comfortable).
We had evening meal and breakfast on site. All very nice, tasty and fill, thank you to the chef.
A group o10 and we picked the perfect hotel.
- J8670AOlauras (10/5): Great night away! - The room was spotless and spacious, our evening meal and breakfast were both beautiful and the staff were so friendly! Will definitely be back!
- H3317AYwayneb (6/5): Chef ! - The chef was rude and sarcastic I asked is there any sausages and eggs he said they will be 12 minutes I told you already he said, had not even spoke to him !
After sitting down next couple that came in waited 15 minutes on there table before going up asking for black pudding and eggs again being rude to them smirking and head shaking.
- amandagD9982LJ (6/5): some staff could do with customer service training - came with my daughter and arrived 15 mins early. The fella on reception ignored our arrival and was busy chatting to another member of staff. A family walked in to check in and he served them straight away even though he clearly saw us waiting. We felt invisible! Our room had a funny smell and I had to ask for coffee sachets and toilet roll for our room. For a newish building it was a little run down with bricks missing out of the walls.
- katiehC1505FW (4/5): Such potential ruined by smell - Mixed review
Starting with the negative. I had read reviews about smells but thought might have been sorted. There was a sick smell in our room (1st floor) and smelt of nappies in corridor. I heard a lady complain of sewage smell in her room on 2nd floor. Needs to get sorted!! Such a shame as food is lovely and staff really make it!! Laura, Zac and Pauline were really helpful.
- 407kims (2/5): Grim - Just left this hotel after a 2 night stay, chosen due to its proximity to Chessington World of Adventure, didn’t even think to check the reviews as we’ve stayed at so many Premier Inn’s before and always found them to be really good. Fool!
The outside of the hotel looks nice enough but that’s where it ends. The room was really dated with old fashioned furniture and duct tape holding things together. However, the bedroom was luxury compared to the bathroom…worst bathroom I have ever seen! Grouting and shower curtain all mouldy, missing overflow cover, dirty floor and a ludicrous amount of sealant holding the toilet in place - whoever did it must have used a whole tube!! 🤣🤣 It was so minging that I had to shower by candle light like Charles Dickens as I couldn’t bear to look at my surroundings!
And the soundproofing (what soundproofing!) - when people walked past the room it sounded like they were inside with us, likely not helped by the large gap under the door! The floor boards were creakier than in a haunted house - when people walked around upstairs the noise was terrible in our room.
So in summary, it’s worth staying here for Chessington WoA as it’s literally at the entrance, but only if it’s dirt cheap. Set your expectations first and consider removing your eyeballs!
- Compass62417407369 (8/5): Lovely hotel and friendly staff - Lovely stay. Hotel was clean. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good. I did feel for the staff as they were covering both reception and the breakfast and were so busy, but if we asked for something they sorted without hesitation.
- Neil (6/5): - Very understaffed - staff that are employed are expected to do everyone’s job
- 328bethans (2/5): Not great… - Had to drive home late at night with two young children. Check in is poor, one machine is out of use for self check in and the other had some glitches. There was someone manning the restaurant for assistance but it’s not ideal for customers or for the staff. Our room smelt of sick and was unpleasant. We also noticed there were only two towels in the room, a bath towel and a smaller hair towel, given this was a family room with 4 people on the booking, I found it odd. The room was also very small for a family and smaller than other Premier family rooms we’ve stayed in before. Apparently there were no other rooms to move us too. A two hour drive home and a disappointing experience. Our two children were excited to stay and we have booked breakfast for the next morning. This is the second time we have had a poor experience with a Premier Inn in the last 12 months and I don’t think we can rely on them for good service. Also the second time we have had to pay for parking, is this becoming a new thing for Premier? No thank you…. Might be Travelodge next time for us!
- AONE5 (6/5): Underwhelming - A below-par Premier Inn. First impressions are not good, with the frontage covered in scaffolding and one of the two lifts broken and unrepaired during our stay.
Online check-in did not work, the check-in kiosk couldn't find our reservation with Name and Post Code, which usually works, requiring a dig into the emails to find the booking confirmation.
The bedroom is a standard Premier Inn style, though the bathroom had some mould around the bath and in the grouting. The shower couldn't hold on to a constant temperature either.
Parking at the NCP is expensive - £15 for the night and no pre-booking rates available, despite the Premier Inn website referring you to that car park.
If I were visiting Cheltenham again, I'd have a look at the Holiday Inn Express, which is close by.
One plus point - you're in the centre of town and a short walk to plenty of dining and drinking opportunities.
- gr_7247 (4/5): Certainly not a Premier experience - Hotel entrance is shrouded in scaffolding so not an appealing appearance and no explanation given as to why it is there. One of only two lifts in the hotel was out of action for the duration of our stay and was not being worked upon. Despite having paid extra for their 'superior' Wifi, the service was very poor or non-existant during our entire stay - this is the third Premier Inn we have stayed at in the last month and at each one the Wifi service was very, very poor. It is as if all Premier Inns are organised to prevent guests receiving an acceptable Wifi signal. On a positive note, the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful but there are other hotels in the centre of Cheltenham which may offer visitors better overall value for money.
- jakedK1992HF (2/5): You might not get food - After spending three out of four nights at this hotel and using the Premier Inn restaurant next door as usual, it was announced to me that the restaurant was only taking prepaid orders on the fourth night of my stay. This came with no warning from the receptionist (of which I only saw when I checked in and when asking about the pre-pay for meals after a wait) and no other way to easily get food on that night. They claimed that being short staffed was the issue, which I could have believed except they were in the same situation with numbers on the second night and only had a small delay with food from the kitchen instead of turning people away because they didn’t book a meal deal in advance and were refused to get them on the night. The hotel may have been fully booked but less than half of the tables were in use and much less than the second night of my stay.
Will not be choosing this hotel again as I like to know if I’ll be able to get food in the adjoining restaurants on the nights I have booked.
- Inspire30790351700 (2/5): Disappointing, needs a refurb. Will not be back soon. - Awful experience, the worst premier inn we have ever stayed at. Musty smelling room as soon as we opened the door.
When you turn on the heating/ac the radiator clinks and makes banging sounds every 2 minutes. This did not settle down. Ended up turning it off at 2am. Ended up freezing as couldn’t sleep with the heating on due to noise. Dirty bathroom and general room is very dated.
The restaurant was a let down as well. We tried calling multiple times to book times for the meals but never answered. We emailed but didn’t get a response. We arrived at hotel after the chessington Halloween event finished, only to be told by Reception they had limited spaces left for dinner as they only had one staff member working but as we had paid for Meal Deal it would be ok.
At the restaurant the waitress really wasn’t very happy to see us and tried to turn us away. I said we had booked a meal deal and she offered to refund. I said no we wanted to eat and then had to wait quite a while to be served. We were the last people to be let in and everyone else got turned away.
The food was awful, undercooked pizza, raw mushrooms and soggy base. Nothing like the old Monkey Puzzle Beefeater which used to be here.
Breakfast we asked for some eggs, 20 mins later still no eggs and then the waitress came over and apologised and said the chef kept overcooking them. We ended up leaving.
Definitely do not recommend this place, such a shame as could be great.
- anthonywY1751PY (10/5): Pauline kept the room lovely and clean - Pauline and Laura were amazing could not do enough to help as we had travelled from New Zealand
Laura was very professional at breakfast and helpful with local knowledge
Pauline recommended the local sites and entertainment
- 650reannaj (10/5): Lovely stay for a few days!! - We came to stay with our kids for a few days during half term and just want to say how lovely and friendly all the staff were, especially the manager Laura! Everyone was so helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We will definitely be coming again 😊
- 538annd (10/5): Fabulous stay - Has a lovely stay in the cotswolds with my Partner and child. We decided to stay in the evening and have a meal at the hotel. Food was great and the service was outstanding.
My little girl particularly took a liking to the hotel manager Laura, she was amazing with her and made her stay super special! So thank you all, we shall definitely be returning.
- Bobbins170 (10/5): Lovely weekend away - Came away for the weekend with my partner to visit Cotswolds, we had such a lovely weekend! The hotel was really clean and ran very well! Exceptional service, the manager Laura always went above and beyond for us, I’d really recommend this stay to anyone thinking about visiting the Cotswolds! We will definitely be back.
- Hiroki (10/5): - 価格がリーズナブルなのに、部屋の広く、設備が清潔で素晴らしい。
- Superpaps (4/5): Gone downhill...terrible breakfast! - The rooms are standard clean and predictable; exactly what is needed. However the windows are sealed, theoretically there is a ventilation system...completely ineffective. The ventilation system in the room makes a constant noise making sleeping a slight problem. The water temp never reached anything belong lukewarm.
The Breakfast used to be above average; it has gone down hill. We stayed 2 days and had the pricey £10.99 breakfast.
The eggs were rubbery (unbelievably rubbery), the bacon was almost uncooked and at NO point were all of the individual components of the breakfast (eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns etc... etc...) available at any one time. The breakfast preparation was slow, the cook behind the counter was grumpy. Quite a disappointment for over £40 for 2 morning breakfasts.
- 877simonj (8/5): Excellent - Excellent staff - clean and well maintained. Despite staying over the races weekend and the hotel was full, we didn’t experience any drop in the quality of service.
- FDanf1 (6/5): Overwhelming Sewer type smell.... - Second visit to this Premier Inn. All good..comfortable room and bed as always.
Only problem was an overwhelming sewer type smell in the room ( not from the bathroom )..this smell could also be found outside the hotel near the main entrance where the scaffolding and boards were nine place.
Great Shame...because otherwise fine.
- 259judithw (10/5): Great staff - Had a lovely two night stay at premier inn Cheltenham. Made use of the restaurant for a lovely evening meal, and the very good happy hour too. Excellent staff with a particular mention to Lainey and Ellie who truly looked after us. Great customer service and lovely welcoming staff
- ianhL7938WY (6/5): Average but ok - We stayed overnight. It was an ok visit. Room was fine. Sadly no hot water, either that eve or next morning as boiler broken,so had to leave without showering! Wrote and got £33 back! Better than nothing. Reception staff were lovely as were staff in resturant. We went for eve meal. Resturant had great atmosphere shame it was a limited menu! Next morning we had breakfast there too. I'm vegan & the vegan sausages & 'bacon' were best i've had!
- Navigate01531473842 (10/5): Very nice clean and friendly hotel - Lovely clean hotel. Staff very friendly and very helpful. Especially Matthew and Lainey. Very comfy king size bed! Clean room with lovely ambient lighting. Nice reception and bar area and good breakfast with plenty choice. Great central location in the town.
- 320jonathonh (6/5): Ok - Bedroom lovely and clean, staff at reception lovely and polite. Down side is restaurant only ever open morning rarely in evening if at all. Have been going for 2 years and only ever been open once and then they didn't have half the menu. Very poorly run when it comes to this side off things. Also some cleaner can be rather rude.
- PrinDSFC (10/5): Excellent meal service arrangements to suit our group. - Excellent service from the Team whilst staying with a group of five for 3 days.
Due to evening work commitments, we needed to get through our evening meals quickly. This was facilitated by the Team allowing us to pre-book the meal time and meal orders. The team were excellent and made this possible so that we could make our evening work commitments. Special thanks to Tia, who made this possible, and to Lainey, Matthew and Steve for making his work like clockwork for us.
- M5483TRmichaels (10/5): Lovely stay - Great stay as always and the team are fantastic. Room was clean and tidy as expected. Will always stay here when in Cheltenham!
- F6910SGmarkb (10/5): Amazing stay at the premier inn in Cheltenham - Thank you to all the staff at the premier inn especially lainey. She made my stay very pleasant, I will be staying again, breakfast was good. Room was clean and comfortable. 5 out of 5 stay😊
- T8663UDthomash (10/5): Amazing - Was down here with work and it’s great hotel to stay at. lainey and her team made the stay amazing and they were very welcoming
- Tourist34003353784 (10/5): Amazing friendly staff - Amazing check in.
Huge shout out to Laindy and Tia. So helpful and friendly. Made my reservation for me when I struggling with WiFi issues.
Can't thank them enough.
- JJEnglandUK (10/5): Top Premier Inn - Great Premier Inn. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Premier Plus room. Shower over bath. (Odd that provided toiletries comprise three bottles of hand/body wash - a conditioning shampoo in place of one of them would be nice). Usual comfy bed. Very quiet room - didn't hear others in corridor or doors closing. Great location. Breakfast was excellent. Again, great staff. Food nicely presented and regularly topped up. Amazing the difference good staff can make with the same basic ingredients. Well done Cheltenham, wish all Premier Inns were as good!
- Stay43475975159 (8/5): A good stay - Thank you Lainey for your fabulous customer service. You couldn’t have made us more welcome. Rooms are a bit tired and smelt of vanilla (?) but a good central place to stay. Parking instructions with the the confirmation would have been useful
- Blueberry90210 (10/5): Great central location - Check-in was a little surprising, but worked well using the self-serve screen and there was still a very helpful (Scottish?) gentleman employee, with a great sense of humour.
The room was exactly as I’d hoped; clean and fresh feeling; no carpet stains and no stale smells, as in other hotel rooms. It was in an excellent location for us staying in Cheltenham and the High Street car park was very close by - our car was perfectly safe overnight.
5* Highly recommend.
- matttX9883LH (4/5): Noisiest hotel ever stayed in - One of most noisiest hotels I’ve been in. It seems nothing is insulated. Can hear walking, showers (next to me and above) is like I’m standing in a thunder storm outside, people flushing toilets etc. feels like I’ve had more peace on the motorway. But location is great. Do not stay on floor 2! Got another 4 nights of this… and it’s 23:55…
- christinajay99 (10/5): Reasonably priced for a convenient central location with good amenities & friendly staff. - Great location. Nice atmosphere. Room more suitable for families rather than with friend but okay. Price was reasonable for central location. It was very clean & we never noticed noise. Friendly & efficient staff.
- DavePChelt (6/5): A very average Premier Inn - Normally you know what to expect with a Premier Inn and then there is this one. It's poorly maintained and very average. The single beds were left out, holes in the bathroom where the maintenance team couldn't be bothered to fill after changing the shower screen. Dusty as the cleaners don't dust properly.. The button pushed in on the lift has been like this for ages and nobody appears to care? Lock still missing on the door to the rooms. I could go on and on.
- DrMichaelDavidSalt (10/5): Ideal base for Chessington World of Adventures - As a family looking to do Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park, this was the ideal place to stay. From hotel room to Chessington park entrance is less than 10 minutes’ walk. For rides such as Dragon’s Fury and Mandrill Mayhem, this hotel is more conveniently situated than even the park’s own hotel.
The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds and decent facilities. Perhaps a little tired, but perfectly serviceable for the money.
The highlight, however, is Chef Eddie in the adjoining restaurant. Despite the backdrop of a defunct Beefeater, Eddie brings a warmth and brightness to the place with customer service that would not be out of place in a 5* establishment. We particularly enjoyed hearing about his Japanese cuisine tips, and the small attentions to detail that delighted our daughter (so much so, she’s making a card for him). Thanks to his chef expertise, breakfast was beautifully cooked, too.
- O4498OJianl (4/5): Awful Experience - The comfortable bed was the only redeeming feature of this below average experience. The ensuite was awful, looking tired understates the condition.
- L5233FNlaurenp (2/5): Filthy hotel - The bedrooms need decorating, there was paint chipping off the walls. The carpets were black and there was thick dust on the skirting boards. The bathroom in sure was not cleaned prior to our arrival there was hairs all around the bath and up the shower walls aswell on the toilet seats, there was mould all around the bath and the drains do not empty properly. The rooms are filthy worst premier inn I’ve stayed in and the WiFi is totally pointless.
- Jonerae (2/5): Not Premier- disappointed - Disappointed with my stay here. I use a lot of Premier inn’s and this is the worst for a while.
I don’t think it’s the staff, although there is very few, they try their hardest to please.
My room has an a/c unit, great in this hot weather - however it doesn’t work, and the control panel has been removed, and replaced with a blanking plate.
The WiFi is rubbish, and keeps cutting out. I upgraded to Premium and that was also poor.
The room smells musty, from the bathroom I think. Sheets feel damp and not aired.
I ate in the restaurant attached, but with what appeared to be 3 staff trying to cater for 20-30 people at dinner, there was a long wait. My total meal experience was 1.5hrs, but luckily I only had a damp warm room to return to.
Senior management should take action, or remove from its portfolio
- Tommy6971 (6/5): Disappointed with Hotel - Very disappointed in this Hotel, staff are great but run off their feet. Only 2 on at evening meals. Menu very limited. Bring back Beefeater. The staff have to carry hot meals down stairs which I find unbelievable. Breakfast kept running out of food and the poor young girl was up and down stairs by the minutes. We actually took our dishes over and put glasses etc on the bar to help these overworked young ladies. I applauded them and think they should be praised for what they do. Get a grip Premier Inn people will go elsewhere if this type of running a hotel carries on.
- Kellou1981 (4/5): Wish I’d read the reviews beforehand - We stayed recently at the PI Chessington. It was super handy for the theme park (which is only 5 mins walk left out of the hotel), the staff member on reception was welcoming and nice, and the breakfast was reasonable…. However the reviews suggesting the smell of damp and paper thin walls is 100% accurate. Our room smelt musty (despite us opening all windows to air the room) and you could hear the people literally in the rooms around you. I mean hear them chatting and the words they are saying. This wasn’t too bad earlier in the evening, but gone 11pm and the noise from around the other rooms was disruptive of our ability to do what we booked the hotel for…. Sleep! We didn’t even bother reporting it, because the room next to us was literally just talking (and not shouting or being overly loud) so there would not have been anything the hotel could do. It was only at the point that, gone midnight, that I checked the hotel reviews and realised that reporting people chatting in their own bedroom would be futile. So, if sleep isn’t your priority and/or you sleep heavy/wear ear plugs, the hotel is perfect for location to Chessington.
- cannon15 (4/5): Close to park - Location is very close to the theme park so perfect if you are going there. Hotel is in bad condition, dirty bathroom, tatty decor and in need a full renovation. Restaurant was very poor , 1 staff member who informed us she was hungover and could be heard arguing with someone else upstairs. Food come out fairly quick but wasn't great quality . Toilets on site dirty and decor tatty.
- joe123wells (6/5): Disappointed - Hotel is fine like usual but the beef eater is no longer there which is the main reason I stay in premier inns because I know the food is spot on but now it’s terrible, I don’t recommend going anywhere near the restaurant as the food is very limited and you could make better at home, they should bring back the beef eater
