Guest Reviews
- Erika (10/5): - Vriendelijk personeel. Prima kamer en faciliteiten.
Heel fijn dat je pas om 12 uur uit hoeft te checken.
- 218tarunt (10/5): Fantastic experience on my birthday - It was great experience staying here on my birthday, Great location, budjet friendly hotel and everything is accessible nearby (Tesco, restaurants, Bars etc.), we stayed in Room 406 which was an upgrade to Sea view providing by the lovely staff members, We stayed in different hotels but this hit something different as this room has both Sea view and City view which was a great feeling that someone can enjoy during Sunset time.
Thank you once again to all the staff members (specially Housekeeping & Front office) for providing complimentaries on my birthday and special thanks to Sharon who was polite, friendly and professional. I highly recommend this property.
- loisp791 (8/5): Hotel/ bathroom/ car park - Was really nice just the bathroom the bath was quiet high to get in and out of and nothing to help you get in also bathroom mats should just be in the room it’s not clear you have to get them from reception it need to be clear and alot bigger. Overwise can’t fault the hotel but the car park need to be signed I bit better
- jimmyd515 (10/5): Happy Guest - Friendly staff, great location and breakfast was spot on 👍
Had a view of the sea, and parking on site.. also site was very clean..
- wendydH1589GU (10/5): Great winter break - The stay at the Premier Inn, Thorpe Bay, was extremely clean and the staff were very professional and very helpful at all times. Value for money was very good and the location was a short taxi ride from all local attractions.
- nikk502 (2/5): Worst dinner EVER!!! - Booked a slot tonight for dinner, arrived, sat down and ordered drinks and food. I had the tomato and garlic linguine with a chicken breast and a pizzaette on the side. After an hour watching numerous customers that arrived after us have their starters, mains and desserts I asked when I might be expecting my simple dish. The answer was that the chef had been really busy and was about to lose it?!? I looked around at the other twelve guests and wondered who’d ordered something to make the chef so?
Our dinners finally came but unfortunately they were someone elses and we’re whisked away from under our knifes and forks ( I’d have eaten anything at this point!) with many apologies. After another wait my dinner was finally placed in front of me, it was a shame it was stone cold!!!!
I told the staff and it was whisked away from me. So near yet so far away!!!
After a blast in the microwave it came back as a solid ball of pasta with a very dry piece of chicken, which was slightly burnt somehow, on top .
What a culinary delight!!! And it only cost me twenty pounds!!!
I felt sorry for the staff for being held ransom by such an inept cook!!!
- 700verityb (10/5): Great for the price - Super friendly staff. Received a warm welcome upon arrival, room was spotless, powerful shower and plenty of hot water, good hairdryer, no late night noise so had a restful nights sleep. Only minor was that parking was £8 and it would have been handy to have a usb socket by the bed. But for £60 odd can’t ask for more.
- DanSC74 (10/5): One of the Best Premier Inns in the Country! - I stay in a lot of Premier Inns and I always stay in the Thorpe Bay hotel when in Southend. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The rooms clean, comfortable, and seldom with any problems. There are a few good cafes and restaurants nearby (for breakfast, Italian and Cantonese food) and the on site Toby Carvery, which I also like. The hotel is a bit older than many Premier Inns, but well maintained nevertheless. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
- 455mats (4/5): Nice view but tired hotel - Great to be able to secure a sea view but the hotel is very tired and expensive for what it was. Parking was expensive, food expensive and the room expensive. Would describe as poor value for money. Rooms are tired and falling apart, the paintings kept falling off the walls. Food was plated up horribly and looked like something you’d serve to a toddler. The one dinner we had was £60 for two rather small and very unappealing plates of food, a couple of drinks and desserts we couldn’t finish because they were ghastly. Staff were friendly enough but incredibly incompetent, the waiting staff in the restaurant had no clue and got our orders wrong 2 or 3 times before we got what we originally asked for. Very disappointing. Hotel in dire need of a refurb and some staff training/recruitment.
- sandragL934FZ (6/5): not as good as normal - stayed here on sunday 9th Nov, no lift but we did recieve an email just before to tell us, we did not find the bed as comfy as we normally do it was a diffarent bed, and the breakfast is not all you can eat cooked breakfast you order and it is brought out to you, which isnt the same, so dont know if i would return to this one.
- sharoncM1947RI (4/5): Shower not working. Staff member couldn't have cared less. - Lovely welcoming staff in the bar.
Room clean and tidy.
Bathroom nice and fresh.
Shower not working. Too tired to report it in the evening. So had a sort of bath but I really wanted to wash my hair.
Reported it in the morning when I went to breakfast. Guy behind the bar went to "fix" it no eye contact and very mumbled apology.
Went up to shower. Still not work. This time water poured out between the pipe and the rain head. So I tried to use the hand held shower part to wash my hair over the bath. But this drizzled and then stopped completely. Glad I hadn't yet got shampoo on. Water stopped completely no matter which way I turned the tap. Just what I didn't need. Stressful time visiting relative in end of life care at the local hospital...
Now trying to find somewhere else to stay to night.
When reported back to the mumbling staff member he just typed and didn't say anything. After a few mins I said what are you actually doing. Writing a report he said. He handed me a scappy but of paper with a customer service number.
He didn't have anythjng to add and didn't want to apologise.
I think he must have been covering usual front of house staff. Didn't look or act like he wanted to be there.
- eddiecM5615QV (10/5): Great stay , thanks Melissa 😊 - Very accessible budget hotel with guest parking, room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The lady on reception, Melissa was so lovely, polite and helpful Premier Inn should be proud to have her as an employee. I would highly recommend staying here .no breakfast but there is a Toby carvery about 10 yards away which does unlimited breakfast for £7.99 .
- NigelHurley (10/5): Great - Very quite clean room. Spacious . The receptionist was delightful . Her name is Melissa . Very nice . I asked for biscuits but she apologised that the vending machine only sold confectionery. Then she gave me box of shortbread biscuits ! She wouldn’t accept payment either. A breath of fresh air !
- K1206ASguym (8/5): Has a good time - The lady at the front was super lovely made me feel at home all the services were great, slight smell in our room but other than that everything was really good
- 594toni (10/5): Again another lovely stay! - Often stay here, great setting and lovely staff! Very clean room and we are always chuffed with our stays!!!
Have more booked!
- 533alecd (10/5): Comfortable room , but a little tired - Stayed for one night, very comfortable but room was a little tired.
Breakfast at the restaurant next was excellent.
An excellent service by the receptionists, particularly Marie, who was very good, and went the extra mile
- bramblingway (4/5): Not the best - Great location very friendly and lovely staff . The place needs a refurb very grubby the worst prem inn we’ve stayed in. Not what you normally get in premier inn .
- berndl612 (8/5): Nice trip to South Sea - Standard Premier Inn, clean with a view onto the channel. Very friendly staff and especially Betty in the Brewers Fayre was very attentive.
- J9605TEalans (6/5): Not as good as it could be - My wife and I normally enjoy all aspects of staying at Premier Inns but this visit fell well short. Due to incoming bad weather we decided on leaving the IOW early. Our taxi had been booked to pick us up at Southsea to take so to Heathrow so we decided to be safe and book the evening here. On arrival we were given a room on the top floor and the receptionist said the lifts are not working. We had heavy suitcases and asked if we could have a room on the lower floor. The answer was NO, that is the room you have been allocated.
We are both aged 69 and she could see that we would struggle and we surely did. The room clean tidy and everything that we would expect. The dinner quality of the food good, service poor. The only person with a smile was the young lady serving drinks at the bar. Breakfast that was totally different great service and good quality food. The manager a smartly dressed foreign speaking lady led a very good team. If it wasn’t for the breakfast and the room the score would have been lower.
- Debtherebal1 (8/5): Good location - Ideal location for us. Easy parking, but expensive.
Bedroom was good, bathroom good. Breakfast good. Just feel that Premier inns are becoming expensive , by the time you pay for breakfast and parking, you could be staying a lovely character star rated hotel with a freshly cooked breakfast?
- gemmab824 (10/5): Lovely place - We stayed for a work trip last night (Thursday) and we had a lovely lady in reception who was super friendly and helpful.
Then this morning we had another lady on checkout. She was blonde but I didn’t catch her name. She was lively and her kindness and friendliness really set me up for a good day.
People don’t realise how such a small gesture can affect someone’s day in such a big way.
Thank you for your kindness whilst we stayed with you.
- melissacR9143LR (10/5): Lovely Hotel - Good location, bit further away from amenities but nice and quiet. Clean room, Great staff, friendly atmosphere. Shame theres no breakfast but the bigger Premier inn down the road served us food so that was good.
- 803adrianl (8/5): Lovely seafront position - Nice position overlooking the sea. The hotel is starting to look like it needs painting in bedrooms ect. Friendly staff but reception not covered so incoming phone calls not answered
- mac673 (6/5): Sea View Room - Stopped here on a Saturday night while attending a concert in the area with an early check in, a fairly standard facility, we did book a sea view room, although not really a major feature and there was some road noise. Some distance from the town centre and pay for parking on depature. The staff were all polite and friendly enough when we spoke with them.
- E8339TLphilipb (8/5): Overall a very enjoyable stay - Excellent location great Atmosphere Rooms are good value was good cleanliness was great Noise levels as expected on a busy Road and guests themselves. Service was good Amenities was good.
- Dunwill (10/5): Family memorial - My family and I were blown away with the exceptional service with received at the Premier Inn Southend on Sea Eastern Esplanade. The staff from reception to bar and restaurant could not have been more amazing and charming. The rooms were so clean and comfortable. Thank you all for the amazing service you are all role models and we look forward to returning next year.
- 955hemantm (10/5): Amazing Views - Just want to thank Mia for her amazing professionalism. The room was amazing. She went out her way to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you again.
- darrenc926 (10/5): Great service - Lovely staff, really friendly and attentive. Emma was really helpful and friendly. Good local people proud of their local area
- Expedition304923 (10/5): Premier Inn Southsea. - Nicely located very close to Southsea seafront.
The room was very clean ,bed very comfortable and the shower was very good.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Didn't use the restaurant.
- Jet39745203841 (6/5): Disappointing atmosphere - Very handy location but so unwelcoming if you are meeting friends .
Wanted family to meet us for a drink to celebrate my birthday as we were walking up to see the fireworks and was told it depended how busy and as long as they weren't eating . They weren't eating but the whole place was so lacking in atmosphere we went elswhere to get together . We only came here as another hotel had maintenance going on but we had been here the year before so i guess we should have known better! Last year we ended up walking up to the pub up the road instead
- T419LUpeterd (8/5): Perfect for one night stay - The hotel was clean and tidy and perfect for a one night stay. The only issue encountered was the lack of an electrical point in the bath for a toothbrush charger. However this was easily remedied by reception who supplied us with a adaptor plug.
- moiraw238 (10/5): Great atmosphere and 5 star staff - Very short staffed but the staff there were amazing, working so hard to make sure all the guests had what they needed.
Gave great information and directions around town. Made our stay memorable
- A9820KKluked (4/5): Southend disappointment - 5 rooms booked and meals payed.
On arrival there was nobody to check us in (I think she was behind the bar and need more staff) room was dated and curtain pole was hanging off.
We booked the evening meal / breakfast combo which was a waste of money, they had run out of certain items on the menu and the food we were served was bland and cold.
The night stay was good bed comfy and shower okay, as for the breakfast this was the worst, hash browns tasted off and the bacon was rock hard.
Really disappointed as we work on the road and use many hotels from premier inn unfortunately this has put us off the brand and will be looking elsewhere for stop overs.
- Georgianaspeaksonyou (2/5): Very bad experience - Was freezing cold and noisy because of air conditioning on
Told them and tried to claim back under the good night sleep guarantee and were told couldn't as hadn't told them but we had twice
Never going back
- Bagpuss1957 (10/5): Good stay - Nice plesent hotel clean and well presented room was nice and clean food all well cooked. The hotel is situated in a nice area of Southsea and plenty to do around there
- k7cats (8/5): Nice Premier Inn - A nice Premier Inn. We paid over £100 per night for a family room. It was clean, spacious and the shower was good and the Premier Inn is handy for everything. The parking is £8 which seems to be common with all Premier Inns now. We didn't book breakfast but paid on the Saturday about £20 for 2 adults and the kids eat free. It was awful. The staff were miserable, the hot buffet was slightly warm, the fresh fruit salad wasn't fresh, the yoghurt selection was fine if you liked strawberry, the bread for toast ran out, the milk ran out, the pastries ran out and then 2 muffins appeared, they went fast. The tables were sticky. We used the restaurant in May and it was awful we thought it might have improved but it hadn't. Don't eat there. Lots of other places in Southend, go to any of them
- M2395QVcarolined (6/5): Average but not what we are used to. - I have stayed at this hotel several times but sadly this time our visit fell far short of the standard we have come to expect. There was only one person on reception who, whilst doing her best to help the customer checking in, was left to deal with rooms not ready for customers, and rooms which hadn't' been cleaned properly single handed. Having finally checked in, we went up to our room to find that it was a double, rather than the twin room we had booked and confirmed on check in that it was indeed a twin. After another wait at reception we were moved to a twin room, with the receptionist explaining that the first room was always configured as a twin and she didn't understand why this wasn't the case for us.
After this everything was ok, until I got home and realised that I had left a jacket on the hanging rail in the room. I have now spent 4 days calling the hotel at various times of the day, avoiding check in and check out times, but even at 9pm and 9.45pm my calls are never answered. I have also emailed the hotel via the email address in my booking confirmation email but these have also gone unanswered. I finally received a response from the main Premier Inn facebook page via Messenger this morning, advising me that they had also emailed the hotel, but I have still not received any response from them.
This has been an extremely frustrating outcome after a good weekend in Southend as it should not be this difficult to contact the hotel directly, and it has left me wondering whether we should book with them again if this is the level of service they now provide, whilst staying at the hotel and after the stay too.
- 711maxines (2/5): Awful - massively gone down hill. - Awful stay. Blood on bed sheets, broken toilet seat, shower broken, breakfast was non existent - no clean cups or bowls, no cornflakes, no pastries, no yoghurts, dirty floor, have to constantly keep repeatedly asking staff for cup or cereal! Seemed very short staff. Very poor quality and service.
Reception staff were lovely though and bar staff in the evening. Food in the evening was very poor though - many items on menu not available and portions were like a kids meal. Dirty used tissues on the carpet in the lift lobby for over 2 days. Just grim.
Only plus were the staff on reception and bar, carpark at £8 a day and aircon worked well in room.
Will not stay here again which is a shame as it was our go to when visiting family.
- Wanderer22005361602 (10/5): Nice Seafront Experience - Been to lots of premier inns and room on 2nd floor one of the largest I've had. Clean with sea view (when the tides in )
Bright and airy restaurant, good location on the seafront. Parking expensive at £8 per night but can go in and out multipe times.
Would use again
- 118perryf (6/5): Good sleep but a bad car park experience. - A typical Premier Inn, slept ok and the food in the bar was ok. We had an issue with the car park where our VW van was broken into but I also think this is typical at a Premier Inn, even though the car park has CCTV and is "patrolled" there was no way to make us aware of the incident until we found it ourselves when we left.
- honeyham (10/5): Another good stay - Friendly staff, lovely sea view from Premier plus room, shame no coffee pods available during stay so coffee machine unusable. Perfectly situated for restaurants and Hovercraft, lovely walk to Dockyards and Cathedral
- 845richardi (2/5): Disappointing. Dont recommend it. - Location is good. Hotel is A bit run down, room was noisy from other guests. Bed very uncomfortable and not like the silentnight mattresses weve had at other premier inns. Reception staff were lovely and welcoming though. But overall disappointing and won't stay here again.
- Fairydustkaz (10/5): The best place - I absolutely love this premier inn I’m a regular stayer and have got to know the staff really well ! It was victorious festival weekend they were extremely busy but still took time to check I was okay ! they put out a basket of things you could buy for a donation for GOSH which is amazing they always look after me as I have disabilities and make sure I have everything I need ! It’s a small hotel but so very friendly! I’ll be back soon it’s my happy place ! Thank you to All the staff your amazing
- Knowall3 (4/5): Dirty and shabby, very dissatisfied - Staff very nice and welcoming, hotel is shabby and in need of updating. Black mould on windows and in shower, bathroom skirting grubby. Shabby carpets. No air conditioning just a fan and you can only open the windows a couple of inches, no good in the summer. Overall needs a complete refurbishment both rooms and communal areas. I have a booking in a different area Premier Inn and are seriously considering cancelling my reservation. Nothing like the quality of hotel portrayed on TV. Extremely disappointed.
- matthewlD3377EZ (10/5): Amazing stay - We had a great stay after what was a nightmare start to are weekend away long story short we had to leave were we was staying so we decided to head to the premier inn and we was met by amazing lady on front desk who helped me book a room for me and my family she went above and beyond for us late Saturday evening when we had no were Togo we are so grateful for help we will definitely stay again
- 186459And123 (8/5): Ok - Typical premier inn .
Very good location on South sea sea front .
Payed car park with limited spaces but there is another car park next door .
Very nice staff .
Typical room clean well maintained .
The wifi was non existent in the room I stayed in .
- anitaaD7541ZV (8/5): Premier Inn Southend Thorpe Bay - a great budget option - Great:
- spacious, clean bedroom with fan provided
- very comfortable beds
- free car parking with plenty of spaces
- really nice staff
- as much tea and coffee as you want
- bus stop outside the hotel
- 30 minute walk from city centre - nice and quiet
- Thorpe Bay beach just outside your door!
- Toby Carvery right next door - they also do breakfast
- corner shop about 10 minutes walk away
- park with kids playground 10 minutes walk away
Could be better:
- lack of air-con - room was hot even with the fan going
- no mini fridge
- vending machine only had v limited options - no bottled water or water fountain
Overall, we had a good stay!
- Jsyfitz (10/5): A really comfortable stay - The previous night we stayed at quite possibly the worse Premier Inn, the truly awful, run-down, Premier Inn at Countess Weir, Exeter - to be avoided at all costs, until totally refurbished. Our faith in Premier Inn was restored in Southsea, where everything - service included, was exceptionally good. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
- dannybZ4694EG (10/5): Another fine day at Thorpe Bay - Once again a lovely stay at the Thorpe Bay Premier Inn. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Just a very short walk (across the road) from the estuary. Parking is brill no issues
Room was very comfortable.
Always recommend.
Danny
- 422richardt (6/5): Clean, Tidy and Adeqaute, BUT..... - The room was clean and tidy, adequate for a one night stay. Nice to watch the ferries and other ships and boats go in and out of the Harbour. A short walk to Gunwharf Quays for the lovely shops and restaurants.
Unfortunately a number of things let the hotel down. Parking is a big issue, arrived just after 3pm to find the hotel car park full, was advised by the receptionists that as we had a blue badge we could park on the yellow lines outside. This is INCORRECT, thankfully we were at the car when the Traffic Wardens came and advised that the road is loading only parking - as indicated by the double yellow lines across the kerbs.
Went down for Breakfast at 8.00am on the Monday morning to find nothing was open and were told wouldn't be ready for another 15/20mins. No reasons or apologies given as to why not open like other Premier Inns from at least 7.00am, most strange. Seems to lacking in organisation and customer service.
- 712leighaw (4/5): Not worth it/ dirty - The hotel is run down.
Room was dirty with fluff and bits of paper on the floor, not good with a baby crawling around.
Holes in the travel cot
No air-con so a fan was left (30 degree heat) but the fan was caked in dust and grime that I had to take it apart before using to wash it
- LindaHul (10/5): Friendly clean comfortable - Room quiet, bed comfortable, tgerefore a good nights sleep, good products in bathroom, all staff that we encountered were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was OK, have to admit I would have preferred self service, but that is just my preference, I understand why it's not. There is a good choice for breakfast
- Shellc75 (10/5): Fantastic stay at Premier Inn Thorpe Bay - Fantastic Hotel, great value for money. The team at Thorpe Bay Premier Inn are extremely welcoming and helpful, especially Chris, Paulo and Justine. I would highly recommend staying at this Premier Inn. The room was clean, the bed really comfortable and parking was available. Next door is a Toby Restaurant where we had breakfast, lunch or dinner some days.
- lancesJ7549NB (10/5): 2 Days at premier inn Southsea - My wife enjoyed sleeping as bed and pillows so comfortable, room very nice and clean we had 2 floor facing the seafront, lovely just wished had a balcony outside, but cannot have everything lol.
Will return to that one again so nice even sitting down area outside of pub and restaurant with glass screens around as nice wind breakers
- lindasC8128VO (10/5): Upgraded to premier plus amazing - Arrived Sunday lunchtime and asked to upgrade to Premier Plus.
Wow, walk in shower (perfect for partner who has mobility problems) mini fridge which had very cold still and sparking water in along with two small chocolates. Room has an iron an iron board and a hair dryer. Lots of big mirror and plenty of lighting. We had a lovely sea view, we were hot and were shown how to put system in to 19 and cold air blew. Not a big a room as standard but so much more on offer.
Thank you ladies and gent staff we saw. Amazing 5 nights our 3rd stay this year and 4th stay booked July already organised upgrade
- J1286ZYsusanf (10/5): Would happily start here again - Clean rooms, great friendly staff. Great location, across the road from the beach and next to Toby Carvery. Best of all, opening windows, no air conditioning and with a fan if needed. Bonus of free parking on site. Would happily start here again.
- J3448YHmikej (10/5): Great value hotel in Southend - Great value. Clean and tidy room with a comfortable bed. Pub next door. Perfect. Was bale to buy drinks in the pub and drink them in the hotel room whilst watching the FA Cup. Additionally right by the sea and plenty of outdoor seating outside by the pub to enjoy the sun.
- B5030NWmichaelf (2/5): a rip iff - I expect much better for what I paid. it may be a last minute booking but I am not happy with the rip off cost.
exterior paintwork was pealing. I feel sorry for the lovely lady at the check-in that has to justify the state of the place.
,,........,....
- 594toni (10/5): Another lovely break - We often stay here & are always happy. Lovely staff, lovely room really can't fault a thing!
Have more bookings booked and looking forward to our trips!
We were very fortunate as sun was shining too!!
It has lovely dining options next door and great location too!
- sandracul (8/5): Very clean and comfortable, good location - Very good value. Free car parking is a definite bonus. The building itself is a bit tired and although the rooms could do with a lick of paint etc, I have to say it was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We would be happy to stay here again. No breakfast available but there is a Toby Carvery next door which do a good breakfast if this is an issue for you.
- Voyage54551783407 (8/5): Lovely central hotel - Warm comfortable room, toby carvery next door for food if required. On seafront. Free parking . Everything you expect for a decent stay - comfy mattress, excellent shower pressure, can't fault it really . Felt safe and comfortable all weekend
