Guest Reviews
- Mel_and_Paul_09 (8/5): Near the M5, but very quiet. - Considering its location, this was a very quiet hotel. Most welcome after an awful day travelling down the M5. The hotel itself is a little tired, but I guess the price reflected that. Would certainly stay again if and when required.
- ianmel1969 (8/5): Mini Premier Inn - Just a small hotel this, mainly for the trade. There were many white vans outside!
The staff make this hotel. All seemed happy and nothing was too much trouble to help.
Found the room to be the bog standard Premier Inn and perfectly acceptable if a bit pricey (£130 for one night). Windows in desperate need of a clean from the outside.
Breakfast is served in 'The Social' a small room which somehow manages to squeeze in a few tables, a place for the continental food and a tiny kitchen. I worked out that most of the workmen would be down early for breakfast so went after 8am when it was thankfully a bit quieter. Would be a bit tight if everybody went down for breakfast at the same time. There was what looked like a derelict pub next door which I suspect may have been used for breakfast before closing down and P.I have had to think on their feet to provide breakfast for their customers.
Hotel is a 20 min walk from the rail station, no local buses nearby.
- KathC985 (2/5): TERRIBLE - My husband and I stayed at the Taunton East Premier Inn hotel in October 2025 on our way down to the Ferry Port at Plymouth. What a disappointment it was.
The room looked nothing like the photographs on this page, was very tired in need of renovation and worst of all the room was extremely dirty. Cobwebs everywhere, dirty/dusty carpets, stains on the walls. Even the corridors looked as if they'd not been cleaned or hoovered for sometime.
To top it all the room cost for one night was over £100!! Definitely not value for money!
We have used Premier Inns in all sorts of places and always been completely satisfied with the experience - but not on this occasion!
- K8050NHjaynes (10/5): Very helpful friendly staff - Just a shout out to the staff, very thoughtful and helpful receptionist who made sure I had a room adequate for my disability, I didn't have to ask he, just automatically did it..and the lady (staff) who I met at reception the following day who helped me with a small personal problem which although small it made all the difference to me being able to travel...Thanks again...
- patric23 (10/5): Good location and very good breakfast - Convenient location with plenty of parking. The room was basic but clean and spacious. Very comfortable bed and nice bedding. The carpet could have done with a clean. The breakfast was particularly good. I would possibly go back although there are lots of choices for accommodation in Taunton.
- janetmY9585XJ (10/5): Solo traveller - We live this hotel. The location is great for us. I stay here to spend time with my family who live close by. The staff are always very kind to me. On this visit the manager made sure I was warm enough in my room and that I had everything I needed for my stay.
- W1333YTdennisd (10/5): Business trip - Stayed here for 2 nights whilst here on business. Hotel is looking old and a bit shabby but the service was great. All the team here are very friendly and willing to help always. I will definitely stay here again. Thank you
- Quest17605333200 (10/5): Overnight stay - Stayed for an overnight stop to go to a party with friends . Lots of parking, lovely clean and comfy room. Was nice to get extra tea and coffee from reception without hassle. Staff really helpful. Breakfast was lovely in the beefeater as well.
- nickB7982JU (6/5): Good Priced Hotel, Poor Pub that closes earlier than advertised. - The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable and the hotel is well situated. The cleanliness could be improved and the Beefeater pub closed at 10pm when it is advertised as being open until 11pm. This was disappointing and the supervisor told us that they weren't busy enough to stay open, there were around 10 people in the bar.
- Mikeybude44 (4/5): Not rhe best premier inn we have stayed at - Bedroom had massive cobwebs In the corners which had obviously been there a long time and the walls were more then due a fresh coat of paint, mold in the bathroom above the bath and the bed was very uncomfortable as were the pillows, breakfast was cold and number of items were either running low or ran out.
- DAC72 (10/5): Enjoyed my stay - The usual Premier Inn experience in terms of comfortable bed, good room temperature etc but the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I really enjoyed the new breakfast set up - have stopped having breakfast when it was in the Brewers Fayre as it was too busy but the inhouse restaurant was calm and relaxing, food was good and it was lovely and clean.
- SalisburyFamily25 (10/5): Great stay, great staff - Me and my teenage daughter stayed the night before a dance competition being held locally. The staff were amazing. Hannah was on check-in, served us in the restaurant and was an all-round star. The facilities were really clean and there was everything we needed. Happy hour drinks were really reasonable and tasty! We slept well and everything in our room was clean and just as you’d want. Lena served up a great dinner for the price, and breakfast in the morning was great too. All round, a great stopover experience. Thanks to the team!
- N2194RPalanc (10/5): Comfortable beds, great food, friendly service - Mum and I returned to this hotel after a very positive experience last year, and we hope to return again next year. The location is ideal for us, as we came to watch the cricket and explore the town. All the staff, particularly Hannah, Ben and Amy were so friendly and helpful, and really looked after us. Nothing was too much trouble. They were always on hand to answer any queries we had, and to provide anything we needed for our room. On arrival, our original room was swapped for one on the ground floor, to accommodate my mobility difficulties - a change that was made without us even asking for it, but which was very much appreciated. Our beds were very comfortable, and mum and I are both keen to purchase one of the Premier Inn mattresses now that we are home. The food was also excellent. All in all, a first class customer experience. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
- Sightsee42552563178 (10/5): Breakfast - The breakfast was delicious.. loved the scrambled eggs! Very calming atmosphere. Thank you Abbie (Chef) looking forward to coming back again for breakfast!
- Discover35560707882 (10/5): Taunton on business - Lovely and clean and good location. Excellent service, Room cleaned daily by Vicki. Nice breakfast opens early in the week at 6.30am.
- Explore8402 (10/5): An Excellent Start to our Mini-break. - Check in very smooth. Queries dealt with. We had pre-paid breakfast but there is an evening meal/breakfast deal. Because we had an evening meal we got our food & one drink each for £20. The food was lovely. I had the curry & my wife had the macaroni cheese. Both dishes good quality & tasted very excellent. Hannah, Amy & Ben attended very well. An excellent start to our stay.
- Coastal32129668650 (8/5): Good experience - Convenient location for training at my new company, very clean and friendly guy on reception. Only complaint was there was no decaff coffee in the room
- tomstermcl (10/5): Comfy stay - Nice staff, helpful and good service. Checkin was easy and room as expected, super clean and the correct temperature. I went for food in a small but comfortable room. Chicken Katsu curry was delicious and served with doom bar beer. Excellent stay all round.
- tinabI5159OO (4/5): Wouldn’t stay here again - Our room was so hot, we had 2 desk fans and a tower fan aimed at the beds and it made no difference. The fire alarms are supposed to bed tested at 12pm on a Friday. I took my little granddaughter out for her nap so the alarm would disturb or scare her. I got back to my room at 1pm. The alarm went off at 13:35 and again a minute later. The scared my 3 year old granddaughter to the point the she was scared of the room and had to sleep in bed with me. My husband had to sleep in the small single bed. I wouldn’t stay here again.
- N6763YImarkd (10/5): Nice basic hotel - Stayed overnight for work meeting. Had meal in bar area. Thanks for all your help, particularly Hannah and Lizzy.
No air conditioning in room, but was comfortable.
- joowens67 (10/5): Breakfast - We popped in for a breakfast as we weren’t staying there,Debs the manager was so welcoming and lovely.she was very helpful showing us where to go to get our breakfast.i must say the chef Abbie was a real sweetheart who cooked a couple of poached eggs for my other heart without questioning.all food was cooked to perfection and as always very enjoyable.Debs made sure we were happy and made me a coffee to go
Overall our experience was brilliant so if your away and need a breakfast I’d highly recommend here, nothing was too much trouble which is so lovely as we were only there for a feed.many thanks girls you made me smile with your service
- V2820IHjulien (10/5): Brilliant! - Brilliant stay, clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Second visit to this hotel and will definitely be staying again
- grgj1957 (10/5): A Great Overnight Stay - Very friendly, helpful and efficient check in.
Well sized room with what turned out to be a very comfy bed.
Lovely bathroon that was spotless.
Lots of coffee/tea/sweetener and milk.
Excellent wifi.
Safe parking.
- faithsW5561JD (2/5): Absolutely disgusting - Worst premier inn. The rooms were moudly, stinky, so tired and there was dust and bugs everywhere. We witnessed a guest fixing his own tap with a screwdriver provided by the receptionist due to there being no staff available. The room was disgusting. We emailed premier inn to complaint and all we were given was an apology and no further action. Appalled by the hotel standards. Do not stay there!
- S7360JPkima (8/5): Another good stay. - The staff were as welcoming as always and the hotel room was clean and tidy. I personally find the beds too soft but to each their own, others may find them perfectly comfortable. The evening meal at the next door Beefeater was very good with many choices for allergy sufferers. The morning breakfast lacked the availability of hot chocolate, again that is personal preference on my part as someone who doesn’t drink tea or coffee (which was available freely).
- jackyf761 (4/5): Not a very pleasant experience - We have stayed in this Premier Inn a few times over the past 2 years and quite a few others up and down the country usually finding them to be clean, tidy, comfy beds and staff very attentive. But this time I couldn’t believe it was a Premier Inn.
The bathroom was dirty and damp and paint peeling off the walls, with a very funny smell in the room.
Only 2 towels in the room. The toilet dispenser was only a 1/4 full. Had to ask for 2 more towels, one big one small and more toilet paper which we were handed a packet and asked to place in the dispenser!!!!!
The room didn’t look like it had seen a duster for years. Around the window frame there were pieces of tree/bush stuck to the wall. The window was really dirty.
Fortunately we only had to sleep there as we had come down south to visit some friends.
When asked about room cleaning the receptionist said we don’t clean your room unless you ask us. We were staying for 5 nights so on the 3rd night I asked if we could have our room cleaned, fresh towels etc.
On our return we found they had made the bed, taken the towels, replaced with 2 towels, not filled the toilet roll again and the shower gel. Emptied the bin. That’s was it.
Fortunately we always register our car when we walk through the door and we pointed out to the couple who were following behind us. They were very grateful as they weren’t advised to put their reg in to allow them to park free.
We will not be returning to this Premier Inn.
Have given 2 stars just because of the breakfast. The staff in the restaurant were brilliant. The food really good.
This Premier Inn needs a good overhaul.
- JakeHUK (4/5): Did the job, but nothing special - Booked this hotel approx 4 months in advance, price was very good - £63 - (cheaper than your average night) so I opted for the flexible rate booking and breakfast included which I don't normally do - £73.99 paid in total. Stayed at the hotel for 1 night as was briefly visiting the area.
The hotel itself is easy enough to reach. It's not far from the centre of Taunton and just off the A358 so is easy to get back on the main roads out of the area. Large car park with plenty of space and was able to park out the front of the hotel the whole time.
The woman who was on reception the evening I checked in didn't seem very interested - I paid what was due, got given my keycard and that was it. No information about how to find my room, if I'd registered my car's number plate (I had already done so as there was a panel right at the entrance) or what time breakfast was being served - The usual sort of procedure that a hotel receptionist would follow. I don't expect staff to be enthusiastic and full of energy; we're all human at the end of the day, but that kind of service just felt a bit off
I found my room - the second to last at the end of a corridor - which happened to have families staying in the rooms besides me. The family in the room where the headboard of my bed were quiet for the most part. The other family had young children who made a lot of noise in the corridor. Whilst unpacking, a woman (presumably mother) was trying to gain entry to my room, forgetting her room was the next one along, and then not long after that a child (presumably a young daughter) kept knocking, yelling and trying to push my door, thinking that someone she knew was staying there.
The room itself was fine, though there wasn't any air conditioning (there was a sign at reception stating this), so I had to leave the window open to try and ventilate the room. However upon showering I found that the bottle of shampoo/hand wash attached to the wall of the shower was completely empty, so I had to make do with using the hand wash instead and later asked for the shampoo to be replaced. Only thing about the location is that you could hear traffic on the road outside, so when there was road rage I could hear cars beeping.
Dinner was very nice at the Beefeater next door, the staff were friendly; especially one particular lady who I believe was working front of house. I didn't have a dinner reservation, but there were some tables free. However, the toilets could do with some maintenance. From memory I believe the radiator was in a bit of a state, and the bathroom itself could have done with some air freshener.
Went to breakfast early the following day so I could eat before it got too busy with families. The staff at the Beefeater were friendly and attentive again. The food was nice, albeit the hot food for the full English was lukewarm and I found a hair in my serving of mushrooms. Also I understand there was a shortage of orange juice in the restaurant so I believe they had an orange & mandarin alternative.
By the time I was packed up, loading up my car and getting ready to checkout approx 10:30am, the corridor was active with noisy children from the family next door to me again.
Ultimately the hotel and premises did the job for the night. But if I were to stay in the area again, I'd probably have a look at alternative hotels. I've stayed in multiple Premier Inns, and most of them have been better than this one.
- 874robynl (4/5): BEWARE OF PARKING FINES! - I’d have given 3 stars as the rooms are looking very tired but the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great. It was in the heatwave and the rooms upstairs were hot and stuffy, a fan was provided but made a lot of noise and didn’t really push any air around.
BUT I’ve reduced it to two stars as we’ve just received a PARKING FINE from our hire car company. We have no idea why as we were asked our registration number when we arrived and we left before the midday deadline on the exit day. The fine is over £50 but the hire company are charging us a £40 admin fee! Thanks Premier Inn! I’d have stayed in a better hotel with air con and free parking if I’d have known! I’d be shelling out another 90 quid! 😬
- Trip590489 (2/5): Hot and stuffy with a rip-off car parking company. - The hotel is unbearably hot and stuffy and the fans provided useless. There was a strong musty odour in the bathroom which was extremely unpleasant. The whole hotel felt cheap and badly constructed. Car parking is advertised as free on the website but the need to register our registration number was not explained and we ended up with a £57 fine from Horizon, a notorious rip-off car parking company. It was, technically, our fault and we should have checked but the staff said nothing and we were tired after a long, stressful journey and just wanted to sleep. We are very disappointed with our stay and expected more from Premier Inn.
- IanPLancashire (6/5): In Need Of A Refurb - This was my first stay here and I probably won’t be returning.
Staff were nice and friendly and I was allocated a room on the ground floor. The room was tired and shabby with bits missing out of the bathroom door and chips in the bath. Also the carpets needed a good clean. The floors were horrendous as previous reviews have mentioned. Creaking loudly every step you made. The room was also boiling hot with no air conditioning.
The location is decent, 10 minutes from the motorway junction and a 20 minute walk into town. I didn’t eat in the restaurant but instead had a walk into town.
Definitely in need of a refurb.
- E5395EKwillh (4/5): Unusually poor Premier Inn experience - The welcome wasn't friendly or helpful. The room was very tired, clearly an older Premier Inn which needs upgrading. No air conditioning in the rooms and the noisy fans provided didn't help much. Worse was the bed - the mattress was very soft and uncomfortable. We left with aching backs and shoulders. Pillows were also poor quality. The bathroom was very small with a ceiling that was covered in mould and the tiles in the shower hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time. Breakfast at the Beefeater opposite was very good, as usual with Premier Inn breakfasts.
We've stayed at a number of newer Premier Inns which have much better bedrooms and bathrooms than this one - desperately in need of investment.
- jj9 (4/5): Staff are great, but I can't recommend this hotel - On the positive side, very clean, and staff extremely friendly. The beds are comfortable, and the bedding is good quality.
There was apparently renovation work going on, and both the Premier Inn website and reminder e-mails warned me of this and apologised in advance for any inconvenience or disturbance. This left me confused, as there was no evidence of ongoing renovation, and if in fact the renovation has already happened, I have to wonder what was renovated.
The rooms are done in classic Premier Inn style, and the carpets and curtains looked new. Some of the fitted plywood furniture was worn and damaged, and my room had a cracked bathroom basin. As others have mentioned, there is no air conditioning (though there were two fans in my room, and the windows do open). Also, in common with other Premier Inns, no safe, no fridge and no iron or ironing board.
The big problem, though, and the reason I would not recommend this Premier Inn as a place to stay, is noise. Nothing to do with renovation work, or the surrounding area (which is a modern-ish housing estate), and everything to do with the structure. The floors, whether in the rooms or in the hallways, creak chronically, and the walls are paper-thin. You will not spend any time here without disturbing your neighbours, or being disturbed by your neighbours. Every step you take, and every word you speak, will be felt in the room(s) next door. If there was any renovation, it completely ignored the floors and the walls. The only place the floor didn't make any noise was the bathroom. I would estimate that the building dates at the earliest from the 1980s, so it's not as if you could say that the wood floors under the carpets are creaky because you're in a historic building.
I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, which looked OK to me, but which according to other reviews is not great. There is a menu in each room, which fascinatingly announces what food is available during the restaurant's opening hours, but neither the menu nor the door of the restaurant itself tell you what those opening hours are. The only alternative nearby sources of food and drink are a local early-till-late shop about 5 minutes' walk away, and a larger (and not very hygienic-looking or smelling) Tesco Express about 10 minutes' walk away. The centre of Taunton and the railway station are walking distance away (about 20-25 minutes).
Premier Inns are consistent in look, but not always in state of repair or quality. The chain obviously showcases its newer hotels, but others, like this one, often need TLC.
- charltonsmith49 (4/5): - The staff were all great, room was great except it was far too hot to sleep even with a fan running all night. I asked for a room with a walk in shower due to hip replacements, I was told point blank we do not have any! We were there for three nights and I could not get a shower. Breakfast room was tiny and not as shown. Getting breakfast is like joining a rugby scrum, long queue for 1 toaster which takes ages. hot food OK.
- mariafI6487NA (2/5): Dirty accommodation and surly reception staff - Very disappointed with cleanliness, both in the bedroom and bathroom.
Only met one member of staff in the accommodation area, on reception, she was most unwelcoming. To the point it was almost rude.
Toilet tissues not topped up, so few in it I was glad I realised before I needed them. When informing reception staff it was a case of her handing a pack over, not a word spoken and certainly no apology for this being missed.
This on top of the dirty room spoiled my stay and I will not be using this accommodation again.
- barrydA827BY (2/5): Unbearably Hot Rooms, Rude Staff - Avoid This Hotel - We stayed at Premier Inn Taunton East for two nights (11–12 July 2025), and it was an awful experience from start to finish.
The rooms — ours, plus my daughter’s and son’s — were unbearably hot, with no air conditioning or proper ventilation. It was impossible to get any rest. For a hotel that boasts a “Good Night Guarantee,” this felt like a joke.
When we raised the issue with reception, the staff were rude and dismissive, showing no interest in helping us or even acknowledging the problem.
Worst of all, the heat made my wife — who has previously suffered a stroke — very ill during our stay. This hotel clearly doesn’t take guest wellbeing seriously.
We had actually been considering using Premier Inn for future corporate bookings with our company, but after this experience, we will be taking our business elsewhere.
If you value basic comfort, respectful service, and your health — avoid this hotel.
- Quest17605333200 (10/5): Overnight stay - Stayed for a friends wedding. Everyone and everything was perfect. The staff went out of their way to make sure the team had everything we needed. Was one of the hottest days but they went out of their way to make sure we had extra fans. Nothing was too
Much trouble.
- davidgV7408AU (2/5): Rooms too hot in June - This hotel does not have air conditioning. On a sunny day the first floor and rooms becomes unbearably hot. With two air fans blowing, sleep still was uncomfortable and not as guarenteed. We were forced to cut a visit short, to escape the unrelenting stifling heat.
- rhyss359 (10/5): Great Premier Inn - Stayed at the Taunton Central Premier Inn for a short break and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The room was spotless, the location ideal, and everything ran smoothly from check-in to check-out. But what really made the stay memorable was Debs — an absolute star! Friendly, helpful, and genuinely warm, she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It’s rare to come across someone who clearly cares so much about guests having a great stay. Thank you, Debs — we’ll definitely be back!
- Geraldine57307 (10/5): Wedding stay - Great stay. Went for a wedding. Fab welcome from staff. The social restaurant space was great. We had pre and post wedding drinks. Nothing was too much trouble.
Staff are amazing and nothing was too much trouble.
Will definitely be staying again. Close to town
- juliekent999 (6/5): Lovely staff, appalling food. - The hotel itself is good. The staff are absolutely lovely & so accommodating & friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant really lets it down. Premier Inn have closed the pub that was attached to it which we were told, was loved by local people. They now have a tiny - no bigger than 2 of their bedrooms, restaurant. The choice is very, very limited. I had nachos to start. They weren’t even loaded nachos just literally a packet of plain tortilla chips chucked on a plate with a very synthetic tasting salsa as a dip. Then, being vegetarian, I had a choice of macaroni cheese or tomato & chilli linguine. I opted for the mac cheese. Well it was like a tin of the Heinz macaroni cheese I used to eat years ago. My husband had the fish & chips which was all frozen & oven baked & honestly not even as nice as the frozen M&S fillets you can buy. This is appalling Premier Inn. Not the fault of the staff at all - they can only work with the equipment they are given.
