- fjordvicp (6/5): Don't bother if you are using a car - other hotels available - The parking situation is insane. The website says 'limited' - understatement of the century! The bays are small and awkward even if there was a free one. The overflow is a multistorey with a hight restriction - we had to park on the road, may have been illegal - the signs weren't great. The lift to our floor and the auto check in were broken. And there was a random wing nut under the bed.
Food was great and the room was fantastic, cosy in the roof, clean, great shower. Bed was great, if a little worried there was a nut missing! Which was odd, because as previously stated so clean even under the bed.
We love premier Inn normally and will stay again. Just not at this one. Someone must have done some horrific favours to get planning for this!
- EmLangford (10/5): Lovely Breakfast before Christmas Shopping 🌲 - Our first visit to this site.
We hadn't stayed the night but came in for a big (and bargain) all you can eat breakfast before a day of Christmas shopping.
My boy LOVES a Premier Inn Breakfast, but usually prefers a 'cooked to order' as he can be fussy with "how things are cooked" 🤦😂
However, ever-the-critique and over honest 8 year old; he has branded this A* for the crispy yet fluffy Hash Browns and perfectly cooked Eggs.
Everything was lovely and Rob was constantly topping up the cooked food to ensure it was fresh. -Even at 10.30 in the morning with half an hour of service left. He was friendly and talkative at the service hatch area and engaged with my Son and offered help serving if needed.
Even though we were quite near the end of service, we weren't made to feel "hurried" to finish and leave and the Host (I didn't catch her name) was also kind and attentive.
The dining area was spotless and well maintained and the Christmas decor looks great.
We will return when next in Colchester! 🙂
- Horrorpilch (10/5): Excellent. - Thank you to all the staff at premier inn clacton during our four night stay.
A special thank you to Alison and Ashley for reserving our rooms, attending to all our needs and making sure we were well looked after.A special thank you to Daniel too for all his help, advice and outstanding breakfast with the best poached eggs I have ever had.thanks to this high level of customer service this is our favourite premier inn and we are regular customers now.
My partner Hayley and I would like to wish you all a happy Christmas and new year and we look forward to seeing you upon our return in January.
- UKVISIT (8/5): Tucked away but good location - Everything was great. Nice hot shower, spacious room, clean and well laid out. Endless tea. The hotel staff were all very nice. Good location
- GoPlaces44957413148 (10/5): Toni - 4 night stay, absolutely fab. Toni is amazing, couldn’t do enough for you! Nice and chatty, but not too much.
Made my work visit so much better.
Thank you Toni!!
- Camilla8905 (10/5): Lovely stay at a very nice Premier Inn - Nice quiet location, and we didn't have any problems finding a space in the car park. The 2 rooms we booked were both very clean and comfortable. We had both an evening meal and breakfast, and staff at both were absolutely lovely - really helpful and welcoming. The food was great quality too!
- lauralH1210DV (10/5): Family trip - Family trip to the seaside we came over fireworks weekend & the staff were amazing
Check in was easy we had a lovely family room looking at the pier!
Breakfast was great with lots to choose from! We loved our stay
- najettem2024 (10/5): Wonderful stay time after time - An incredible stay - have been here a number of times and never disappoints. Clean spacious rooms, welcoming and friendly staff it’s all good!
- rebeccahL8115YX (10/5): A truly wonderful experience - Staff were amazing nothing was too much trouble they all went above and beyond especially Toni would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel and five stars from us
- ian1234thomas (6/5): Could do better - It's a lovely location near the Dutch quarter but parking is limited and the building is the usual bland architecture..There were no staff on reception for long periods .I don't want to have to book into a hotel via an app .
- 204jewell (8/5): Very nice stay.. - Stayed two nights had a lovely stay the staff were very kind friendly and helpful we stayed in a Premier plus rooms worth the extra money also very quiet stay and slept very well.. My only issue was with the Brewers attached to the Premier the food was awful it was also not clean in the Brewers my feet stuck to the floor BUT the staff were run off there feet and were very nice just food and cleanliness was the issue..
- MNJ12 (10/5): Clean, tidy, warm and welcoming. - Clean, tidy, warm and welcoming. We have stayed here before and will again. It’s good to have a bath to soak in when you’ve been out walking, especially when the weather is chilly.
- Robert2208 (10/5): Wonderful stay with very welcoming staff. - Darren the manager was very helpful when our television did not work on all channels. He came to try and rectify the issue but had no luck. He offered to search for another vacant room as we were staying three nights. We returned to him a while later and he had found us another room which did the trick. Daniel from the kitchen, also welcomed us as we have spoke with him on several previous stays and ha has always been a integral part of their very professional team.
- stevekF1269ZV (10/5): Had issues - Me and my son arrived Friday afternoon, check in was swift and spot on, my wife arrived around 9pm, then we found an issue with the TV in our room.
The problem we had was the TV remote didn't work with our TV, I appreciate we didn't book a weekend away to watch the TV, but with a 7 year old it's handy in the morning and evening when you get back to bath/shower and relax before bedtime.
This issue was reported 4 times throughout the weekend, yet nothing was done, the only thing the staff could do was give us multiple remote controls (think we tried 12 remotes) and none of them worked.
Staff were apologetic and very nice, but seemed clueless as to how to sort this issue out, no fix nor compensation was offered or done.
We use Premier Inn all over the country, as they are normally a dependable and reliable brand, but this left us some what feeling at a loss and questioning the Premier Inn ethos.
I also question, why you feel the need to charge £8 for 24 hours parking, it's a hotel car park!, as we had to take 2 cars the parking was for 3 nights, which cost us an extra £48, again found this charge rather offensive and unnecessary, may be put a barrier on the car park entrance so only guests can use it, just a thought.
- jenhZ167LL (10/5): Rob leads a great team! - Great experience . Room great, food great, staff excellent.
Rob, Jess Caleb and rest of crew made our trip with their attentiveness, humour and professionalism, go beyond service.
- J4042BMianb (2/5): BE Aware, Very aware !! - First impressions are a fairly new Hotel, booking big issue as rooms (not just mine) was not ready, food major issue as the restaurant had major issues again and could only serve Chick Goujons or burgers !! with no notice until you actually sat down, totally useless and will not use again this Prem INN
- DavlynSurrey (10/5): Lovely weekend in Clacton on Sea! - My family, ages ranging from 9 years to 83 years, have just returned from a long weekend in Clacton on Sea staying in the seafront Premier Inn. The hotel is in an excellent situation overlooking the sea, just walk across the road and you are on the beach or pier. Our rooms overlooked the sea with amazing views! Rooms were just a little tired but were spotlessly clean with good amenities. Curtains were good black out material. Hardly any noise from the road. My only personal complaint would be that the windows do not open but air conditioning was good. Staff were excellent and went over and beyond. Very caring, polite, and nothing too much trouble. I would like to mention Darren, Alyson and Emma especially! Breakfast was delicious with the usual large choice Premier Inn offer, the dining room was spotlessly clean.
This hotel is so ideal for all ages, so much to do on the pier, beautiful sands and lots of restaurants. The Lounge, a pub with food, overlooking looking the sea was also lovely, just a short walk over the road. Car parking was very easy and we never had to use the cars for the three days we stayed.. This Premier Inn is ideal for a lovely family break! Would highly recommend.
- StuartK80 (2/5): Drugs residue in bedroom - Horrendous stay due to my 9 Yr old daughter finding this tray of cocaine, empty bag and rolled up note on her bed upon check in. As fully booked we had to go out while they checked and cleaned the room (again) to which my kids were scared to stay in.
2 weeks and 2 chase up calls reporting this to guest relations and asking for this to be escalated, finally gor a response stating i would get a refund, we will not be using premier inn again and advise any 1 with children to think twice about staying here.
- diver8264 (8/5): Weekend visit to family. - I chose this hotel as it is centrally located but in a quiet area. Check- in time is inflexible as we found out. 40 minutes early, we were offered an "early" check in for 15 pounds and declined. Another couple who were 20 minutes early were given the same response. . The room was good, very quiet as desired, and the twin beds very comfortable. Extra pillows were provided and used. Breakfast selection was excellent and good value. We elected to eat dinner in the same restaurant, and the meals were also good as was the service. We will certainly use this notel again.
- Inspire24371061705 (10/5): Gold star service ! - Stayed at the Premier Inn near Colchester Castle last night for work. I checked in late about 8:30 pm and was met with a very helpful ,pleasant charming and hospitable receptionist/host called Jess. Nothing was too much trouble for this member of staff, I then went down for breakfast at 6:30 am And she was still working. I sat and listened to her interact with all the guests during breakfast. she was polite, engaging, extremely helpful, premier Inn you are extremely lucky to have this member of staff in your hospitality team if only every member of staff in the hospitality industry was like Jess ..:She really made my day ! Great stay ! Mr McManus
- A1363WOclaireo (10/5): Jess and Maria are the best - We had a lovely stay at Premier Inn, made truly memorable thanks to Jess and Maria. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were absolutely fantastic with my grandson – so kind and thoughtful. The food was hot and delicious, but the real highlight was the warm, friendly service. Jess and Maria are absolute stars and a credit to the team!
- alans367 (10/5): Weekend away - We have stayed at the cockermouth premier inn since it opened and have always been very satisfied with the hotel throughout.
- HazelS215 (10/5): Colchester visit - Great stay in Colchester. Friendly professional staff and lovely food too. Room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay again.
- scrumpt1ous (4/5): Great location. Avoid if you like pleasant staff - On arrival we registered our car via the electronic system, please don’t forget to do this. The staff on reception were rude and abrupt, as if we were an inconvenience to and bothering them. They treated the couple behind with the same disdain and lack of respect. A large family were checking in when we left to go out, eye-rolling and dirty looks shouldn’t be part of a check-in procedure. The family were clearly embarrassed by this treatment.
The room was as you’d expect, the sheets and towels clean. There was a pedestal fan in the room and after a few minutes it became apparent why. The room was incredibly hot, far hotter than you’d expect for October. The air conditioning didn’t work and the window didn’t open. We had the fan on the whole time we were in the room and it made virtually no difference, it was just moving the hot air around.
The attached restaurant wasn’t open past 9pm, we were told this was due to staff shortages, whilst I understand the reasons it would’ve been helpful to have been informed of this either prior to our arrival (via email) or by the, clearly unbothered, reception staff. After a lengthy drive to the hotel to then have to go driving around to find somewhere to eat is unacceptable. Breakfast saw an okay selection of food available. The scrambled egg was swimming in milk, it looked more like curds and whey. I watched the person bring out more fried eggs, they were overcooked with the yolks hard when they were put into the hot hold, it takes a special lack of skill to overcook 5 or 6 eggs to that degree. I don’t eat bacon, just as well because it was shrivelled up due to being cooked for too long. Surprisingly, the hash browns were undercooked and soggy. The biggest issue at the breakfast room was that the hot water urn/machine wasn’t working. It had been replaced by the smallest kettle I’ve ever seen outside of a hotel room kettle, the queue of guests waiting their turn to make a cup of tea should’ve been embarrassing to the 1 person working, she didn’t say a single word to the queuing guests.
The hotel has 2 lifts but 1 is not available to guests. There are paper signs over the call buttons on 1 lift saying it is for the hotel team only. I’ve never seen this, I’ve been in hotels around the world and often seen the housekeeping team entering or exiting the same lifts as the guests, I find it inexplicable that a lift is unavailable to the guests who need it.
This hotel is in a great location with easy access to the A66 and other major routes up to Carlisle and Whitehaven.
- M5402VVpaulm (10/5): My colchester stay - Lovely place to stay
Staff are friendly and helpful 👌clean and comfortable and the food and drink 🍸ina quite location
- Basilnights (10/5): Great Customer services at Premier Inn Clacton Sea . - We didn’t stay there but had breakfast there when we entered we were met by Daren who asked if we had been before we said yes he went through what they offered gave us the area where the bar stalls are.which was no problem we were able to eat all we wanted when the coffee machine went wrong I spoke to Daren he was straight over to sort it out.He was well organised clearing the tables as people left.
It seems like everywhere else numbers of staff have been reduced as when we have been before there were three people doing the same job as Daren who was very efficient on his own.We will certainly be back.Clive
- emuslushy (10/5): Excellent customer service - I have stayed at this hotel before and would do again.
Found my room to be clean and fresh. As others have stated, the windows do not open, which could make for a hot room, but a large standing fan was provided, even though it was quite late in the "warm" season (late September).
Plenty of parking. Seems like the hotel may be used by numerous truckers as there were a couple of larger vehicles parked up every night, but plenty of overflow parking aswell and never struggled for a space.
Didn't eat at the restaurant at all, so cannot comment on that.
Got my meals in Cockermouth town itself.
Received a very warm welcome from the staff, who couldn't do enough to help, including assisting when I was checking out very early (4.30!) Even then, they were bright and cheerful, whilst being respectful to other visitors still asleep.
Ideally placed for exploring both the Western and Northern Lake District, along with the coast. I would stay here again if in the area.
- A9253RIsimonh (2/5): Good night sleep guarantee a load of rubbish! - Premier Inn do not honour their guaranteed good night sleep. I had food poisoning from eating at the pub with them, meant I did not sleep all night but they said not their responsibility…
Also said the pub hygiene was up to standard (3 weeks later) and therefore they would not pay.
I have used Premier Inn numerous times and never had an issue, I will never stop at a premier inn again.
- Ant5735 (4/5): Poor service - Slow check in making me late for a wedding. No record of early check in and room wasn't ready as maintenance were in so swapped about after some time. All this whilst I had my newborn son in a harness on me needing to get into a room to feed him and get unpacked. It was difficult getting up and down corridors with all cleaning trolleys out. In the room the window wasn't an opening one and the aircon was poor and didn't lower temperature making it difficult and stuffy with the baby. Lots of other wedding guests had similar check in issues and upon check out the same issues were happening with new guests. Lack of staff was blamed but when I left for wedding they were all stood out in car park on a break and there didn't look to be a shortage of them.
- Karenmason75 (10/5): Excellent Stay - Me and my partner stayed for 2 nights at Cockermouth site and we were very impressed again with the hotel. The premier plus room was superb catered for all our needs. We did however have an issue in the brewers fayre attached where we waited for 2 hours for food but Alison (restaurant manager) dealt with the issue very professionally she is a total asset to the team thanks again Alison
- Mikeowl (10/5): All good - We stayed here for two nights covering a family wedding. Really pleased with the hotel though we didn't try the dinner/evening meal option so can't comment.
Had comfortable room, comfortable bed (little bit high for one of us). Rooms cleaned daily if wished which we prefer.
The manager is clearly very hands on with the hotel, one minute watching over brekkie (very good btw) the next sorting a taxi for a guest when rhe firm wasn't answering and then clearing up a spill from the floor.
The location is very convenient, walkable to the Town Hall for the wedding and also just next to a lovely park
All in all a very good stay
- kennethjohnlesliec (4/5): A disappointment - Well located, but the hotel has a run down air about it. Our stay was particularly impacted by the airconditioning being inoperable much of the time. We cannot fault the staff who tried to help, providing us with a fan, but that was noisy and could not cope with the situation. Overall, we found the stay overpriced for the facilities offered, when we have found other Premier Inns reasonable value. Even the name light on front of the hotel only had the last two letters of "Premier Inn" alight, a reasonable summary of the state of the hotel.
- kylehT7105KN (2/5): Poor management, staff training needed! - £10 per day for parking with no warning, even if you stop for a minute. Staff at reception were rude, dismissive, and often absent; you have to ring a bell just to be noticed, and telephone calls go unanswered (15 made in working hours). Rooms smelled damp and musky, adding to the overall neglect. For the price, a hostel would offer better value and respect.
- HelenLS1 (10/5): Clacton gotta love it - Had a great few days in Clacton-on-sea. Staff were very welcoming, happy and helpful. couldn't ask for better. Room was clean and tidy, bed was comfy. The Premier inn was right on the sae front, opposite the pier, not far from the shops either.
- philipgK6880SE (6/5): Lacks staff creating long waits. - Card reader not working in the hotel ,so cash only.
Only one member of staff taking drinks and food orders , people were queuing from the bar to the entrance door , tills weren't working properly, new floor staff were bringing wrong meals to numbered tables, the food over the week was ok given a set basic menu , 3rd night it took 15 minutes to get served and give my food order. The manager stepped in to help out , but that was a total of two staff, my starter of soup was fine as usual , my main of gammon was burnt black and covered with the pineapple, chips and eggs cold ,the 4th day I left as I felt like it would repeat again that evening, not a good experience overall, just a repeat of December last year.
- laurasB2598BJ (10/5): Staying at the hotel - Everything was so clean and the staff were so kind including housekeeping, definitely felt welcomed by the staff everything was absolutely amazing
- 462marciab (10/5): Great location peaceful - First time of staying here and the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Rob the hotel manager, as I was staying as part of my birthday week there was 2 bottles of prosecco. The room was great looking out to the pond in Castle Park, a nice quiet night and I actually slept.
The only thing is the shower curtain isn't wide enough to fit right across the bath bit so water gets on the floor but its not a major thing
The hotel is in an ideal location, peaceful and looks great too
- malc1005 (6/5): Pro's and Con's - Hotel is about 30 mins walk, from Colchester railway station. On arrival, after a long journey, arriving 25 mins to 3 o'clock, we had to press the buzzer on reception, and wait for someone to come out of the office behind. When they did come out, they just said check in is 3pm, and went back into the office. We thought this rather rude, and sat down in reception. While we were there, a guy came from the restaurant and booked everyone in without a problem. Room good, bed good, sleep good. They had a key card problem while we were in the hotel, ours stopped working 3 times, and other guests had the same problem. Of the two lifts, one was out of action most of the weekend. Found day staff rather rude, but afternoon/ late staff where excellent, especially the guy, who seemed to be everywhere, and could not do enough for all the guests. Breakfast very good, evening meal good. Breakfast is walk in, but evening meal you have to book at reception during the day, not sure why, as there was only 4 couples eating in the restaurant, when we were there.
- DuncanHibberd (8/5): One night stay - Good hotel, good bed, clean rooms, friendly staff, hot shower, filling breakfast.
When we were there the one of the lifts was out of order and the only other one was being used by the cleaners. It was fine for us, we took the stairs, but a wheelchair user would have had to wait. Also the bar closed when the receptionist left at 9, so no drinks after a night out. Minor points.
- 692katb (2/5): Stolen item left in room - iPhone charger was left in the room on check out when returned to retrieve the item this had not been handed in therefore was stolen by staff.
- L3002XMvictoriam (6/5): Good & Bad points but overall a safe bet - I have been coming to this hotel for many years with my family, well aware that you can't get any mobile phone signal and if you leave the hotel you have to keep signing up to the wifi when you return for some reason it doesn't automatically reconnect. The bathroom was looking a little old and worn with chipped paint on the skirting boards, we had to chase some more toilet paper a few times. You no longer get mugs and glasses in the room instead you get just 2 glass mugs, we asked for extra as there were 4 of us in the room but we never got them. the shower no matter what temperature it was set to kept going to very cold while you were using it. We were meant to get a discount price for the parking as we booked our rooms before the parking fees increased but we were still charged the new higher price. Staff are always polite and friendly. The breakfast is always a big hit with all the family but we don't have the evening meals here as the menu is rather limited. The location is fantastic walking distance to the pier and all amusements and shops.
- petergB1278II (10/5): Excellent hotel. - A very enjoyable stay, breakfast and evening meals were excellent, the hotel is also extremely clean and comfortable. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff at the hotel, nothing is too much trouble with all willing to have a chat regardless of how busy they are.
- W8938PUcaroles (2/5): A bad experience - I am a slightly disabled 85 year old lady and my son booked an accessible room online around 10pm.
When we I got to the hotel around 1am we found that unfortunately the booking did not ‘go through’ and I was denied a room.
The receptionist was adamant in not giving me a room, even though the room we asked for was free and many more.
- Go12064938749 (10/5): FAB Madness weekend - Went for a 2 night stay to see Madness at the castle park. Check in was great. Our room was clean and had a lovely bed. We had an evening meal that was great and our breakfasts were even better. As for the staff. Fantastic. They went sbove and beyond. A credit to premier inn
- Baileyboo999 (10/5): GIRLS WEEKEND BREAK - AMAZING!!! Stayed her beginning of August for weekend trip with the girls. Staff was amazing! Very helpful when needed anything doing. Breakfast service was lovely food was quick and easy with buffet option. We also had dinner meal one night which was also great (friendly service staff then as well)
Overall the rooms was lovely, rooms was good decent size with everything equipped that u would need (hairdryer, towels, teas, coffee, mugs and shower gel etc)
Housekeeping was all friendly if needed anything extra was easy to be solved no problem.
We definitely will be returning next year for sure!
- sarahluikaj (10/5): Perfect British break - The perfect location for a little break right on the seafront. A very warm welcome as always and a special little shout out to the lovely lady who had superb customer service skills. Unfortunately the lady was not working when we left to catch her name. She had very short hair and worked till late evenings. She was fantastic with my teenage son and always accommodating. Saying that, so too were all the staff.
The room view was too just perfect. We shall see you all again next year.
- paulsY7068DI (6/5): Great location but poor communication - Arrived approximately 1pm and there was no parking spaces, I had emailed a few days earlier to request an early check-in as had been driving fo 3 hours and had a concert to go to at 2pm so wanted to freshen up, but got no response, I tried to ring several times but no-one answered then got to hotel an told we had to wait till 3pm, when I mentioned emailed and phone call I was told it was because they had no staff.
- D2083OZsaml (10/5): Great premier inn - Lovely friendly lady at check in. Lovely rooms and very quiet and peaceful.
Manager at the restaurant on site was very friendly and helpful and food was quick and tasty.
Would definitely recommend this premier inn for a quick visit in the area
- Dorothy1945 (6/5): Tired and Run Down Rooms - I give the friendly hard working staff 5 stars without a doubt, very helpful and chatty, great breakfast chef who was very friendly and helpful too. I noticed staff had more than one role, this has always been a busy hotel and i have been coming here for about 6 years, it runs on a skeleton staff and they are running around doing more than one task, this is not fair and more staff are needed there. The rooms are very tired and damaged (I saw a couple), my room ( 121) had marked walls, a damaged desk, dirty stained chair, marks on bathroom wall, tatty silicone in bathroom, paint missing and marks on wall from the tension rod where the net curtain used to hang, it was like walking into a room from the 1970's, drab and old fashioned. TV signal was shocking, every night we gave up watching tv as it glitched all the time. I used the hairdryer once, which cut out so much i gave up with it as that is dangerous (i meant to report this, but forgot apologies) Corridor smelt stale/mouldy. I was last here 2 years ago and was shocked at how much it has gone down hill. Premier charge enough for their rooms, so they could at least revamp this particular hotel, it's always busy, it was fully booked when i was there last week, so they definitely have the money. The car park used to be £2 to park in if you were staying in the hotel, i was shocked when paying to see it has jumped up to £8 for hotel guests to park in there, it should be free to paying guests of the hotel! I stay here as my son loves it and he wants to return for his birthday, i just hope next time the room we get is alot nicer, there must be some rooms that are better than others, but all need revamping.
- 2BEHONES (4/5): Three night family break - A good location with plenty of parking and the receptionist was welcoming. It's been many years since I have stopped in a Premier Inn and sadly nothing has changed regarding the dour decor. As mentioned in other reviews, the rooms are stuffy with no opening window and couldn't see any trickle vents in the window unit. This, coupled with an uncomfortably firm mattress, meant we struggled to sleep.
The Brewers Fare was ok for breakfast, but terrible for evening meals. Food was tasteless and we got the impression that it was 'ping cuisine'. My daughter tried to order something a little different, (not a standard menu item), and was told it couldn't be done, with the person behind the counter stating "what do you expect, it's fast food that we serve". We ate elsewhere for the remaining nights of our stay.
It will be many years before I try Premier Inn again.
- 981raymondr (2/5): Ray do not stop hearing carpets very dirty premier pluses rooms belong in the 70s no walk in shower acsesable room beds are 1 f - Very dirty carpets no walk in shower would not recommend the worst hotel I have stayed in disabled rooms the bed is no Moor than a mattress on the floor do not book
- johnwC6361RF (10/5): Great short break at Premier inn Cockermouth. - Had a 6 night stay in premier inn Cockermouth to visit the lakes for a short break. The reception staff were all really friendly and helpful, the room was close to reception which we had requested due to our child using a wheelchair, the usual premier inn standard, clean room and bathroom, plenty of clean towels and hot water, unlimited tea and coffee sachets available in reception and a large screen TV in the room, A sign at check in when we arrived on the Sunday stating that the Brewers Fayre restaurant was closing for meals at 6pm was initially worrying as we had planned on using the restaurant throughout our stay as the location is quite remote with Cockermouth town a cars drive away we wondered if getting evening meals in the hotel during our stay might be a problem? It seemed to be due to restaurant staff shortages We needn’t have worried , we did book each day for an early evening meal around 5.30 to 6pm as we like to eat early although new staff started during our stay and seemed to get into their new roles well the regular staff namely Andrea and Heather could not have been more friendly and made us feel really welcome. They obviously new their roles well and were a credit to the restaurant they often worked on opposite shifts ensuring the restaurant floor ran smoothly during our stay. The food was hot well cooked and plentiful, the kitchen staff did a great job and we never waited long for the evening meals to be served to us after ordering at the bar.
We will definitely stay here again when we next visit the Lake District. Thank you to all at premier inn and Brewers fayre for making our Cockermouth stay enjoyable.
- Simmo42 (6/5): It’s a Premier Inn, what do you expect? - A pretty standard Premier Inn experience. The best thing about the hotel is its location- almost opposite the pier on the sea front.
The corridors between the rooms could do with a hoover but the rooms themselves were fine. The restaurant- this one has a Thyme, Premier Inn’s own restaurant, rather than an attached chain place - isn’t really big enough for the hotel. Book a slot for breakfast or you might be turned away. There also seemed to be an issue with the room keys - we kept getting ones that didn’t work.
But the staff were friendly and helpful and there seemed to be enough of them, which sometimes isn’t the case in Premier Inns. It may be the best hotel in Clacton, though this says more about Clacton than the Premier Inn.
- elainecK812NB (2/5): Parking fine - My brother was having coffee while waiting to meet me at the Premiere Inn.
I met him in the car park but we were short on time and so I decided not to go in for coffee myself although this had been the plan.
We also decided to go on to our next location in his car leaving mine in the car park.
I got a huge fine in the post!
I am local, have been a regular customer and will now spend my money elsewhere.
There was masses of parking space, I did not see the sign, it was a genuine mistake.
- hellokittysleeps (8/5): Pretty standard premier inn, but with great sea views. - It’s a premier inn, they are pretty standard and you know what you’re going to get. The room was perfectly clean and a good size for a family. I generally find the rooms are always a little worn looking, due to high volume of use and for the price, I don’t expect the ritz. This was no different but as mentioned, perfectly clean and ok for a couple of nights. We did have an issue with a leak coming through the ceiling which was resolved with a room move and handled well by the manager. Overall the staff we spoke to were all very friendly and even the breakfast chef kept saying hello. The breakfast I find great value, it was all hot and tasty. Particularly liked the mushrooms. The toaster is slower than a snail, but it was my only complaint. Parking was convenient and reasonably priced to me as I’ve paid more for other premier in car parks. We hope to back again next year. I thoroughly recommend a sea view room.
- felinesussex11 (10/5): great stay - as usual for us the room/bathroom was very clean.we had room 219 on the 2nd floor away from the lift and also overlooking the car park so that was fine as we could see our car. the lady on reception was helpful and friendly (think the lady's name was toni) but the others were too when we wanted any info.breakfasts hot and plentiful we both wanted poached eggs which were no problem at all.thanks to the chef!.must give a big shout out to the waitress 'Heather' she worked her socks off as she was on her own but nothing was too much trouble.she knew what we wanted each morning just checked with us and it was ordered.this p inn was a great stay.if we come back up will definitely stay here.thank you.
- Angel_1333 (8/5): Comfortable Stay - Usual good standard of Premier Inn with a clean and comfortable room. The reception staff were pleasant and welcoming.
We had a a drink in the Brewer’s Fayre in the evening and there seemed to be a decent choice of food.
We had breakfast in the morning. Sadly, most of the food from the ‘hot’ selection was cold. The only eggs on offer were fried and the yolks were congealed. There was one lady on duty who was working very hard and seemed to be doing everything.
- LondonFriday (4/5): Hopeless booking and check in process - I booked six rooms for a group visiting town. I tried various ways of making the booking and all were hard work so in the end booked on my personal credit card; I intended to make the booking in corporate name and pay by bank transfer but it just wasn’t possible.
I then tried to speak to the hotel to arrange check in but again this was hopeless. I spoke to a central desk who said it would all work automatically.
Neurotically I didn’t trust that and it’s a good job I did. I went to the hotel to double check and they said the info I had had on the phone was wrong, I’d have to pay at the desk instead.
There was a queue of epic proportions - a party of golfers were checking in - so I came back later - and discovered why there had been such a queue! It was impossible to check in and pay for all the rooms at once; I had to check in for each guest separately and pay for each room one at a time. It took half an hour and made me late for next meeting. There was only one person on check in doing everything (table bookings etc)
So it’s a hopeless and laborious booking and check in process, it’s not possible to contact the hotel direct, their central desk gives wrong information and it takes far too long.
- D6594MGbriana (4/5): oh dear oh dear - the only good thing about this place reception were friendly the security windows no fresh air condition to get it changed you ad to go through reception, then we come to the worst bit the food the service were rubbish to be polite .This by far is the worst place i have ever stayed ,If we had booked a 3rd night we would have found somewhere else to stay
- NeilSusan (2/5): Worst Premier Inn experience yet - On check in, we upgraded to the meal deal package
Check in was completed efficiently and we were allocated a room on ground floor near to reception area.
It was a Friday night and receptionist suggested we book a table at restaurant as it was likely to be busy as they were experiencing staff shortages. We did this.
Room itself was usual Premier Inn set up but did have a large screen wall mounted TV rather than some locations where it is almost a portable sized TV on the wall. Free WiFi was good.
The hotel is twinned with Brewers Fayre pub/restaurant.
We went to the bar and ordered some drinks around 6pm and you could see that the staff were struggling to cope. One barman(manager?) behind bar and only one waitress. We decided to eat early and ordered a pizza and gammon/ chips. These were brought to the table about 40 minutes after placing the order. Both were cold, poorly presented, tasteless and basically inedible. At this point (7.30 pm), the barman announced that the kitchens were now closed. There were still numerous guests arriving so they were not fed. Bearing in mind that this hotel is in a fairly remote location, this is totally unacceptable. I went to reception and reported my issue and was told to complain to barman as Premier Inn, who had sold me the food package, were a separate company to Brewers Fayre. I did complain and quite rightly got my evening meal deal money refunded.
Room itself was usual Premier Inn standard and quite comfy. However, the guests in the room above had other ideas ! About 3am, for the next 4 hours, all you could hear was them pacing back and fore. Very heavy walkers, and the continual clump, clump clump from above was very annoying.
I reported this to the manager the following morning on checking out. I was told that I should have reported it at the time. So, I should have got dressed in the middle of the night, gone to reception and reported it at 4am. And what would the night shift staff member have done ? Completely ridiculous response and this manager just didn’t want to know. Maybe, they should look at the lack of noise insulation between rooms.
Breakfast, back at Brewers Fayre was highlight of trip. Nice, diligent staff and a really good quality breakfast.
Would I stay here again ? Absolutely not.
