Guest Reviews
- J4547BEalexe (10/5): 10/10 - Lucy and Harrison were amazing. On a works trip and they couldn’t help enough, they were friendly and welcoming - would highly recommend.
- tombV2469MN (10/5): Amazing service - Harrison is a legend best service I ever had. Lucy is one of the best people I have met in this industry 100% would say again
- F3625RXbernies (8/5): Lovely stay in Barnsley - Staff at Premier inn Barnsley are so attentive & helpful. We always receive a warm welcome. Particularly from James & Lucy.
The room was clean & well presented.
- harrisonm266 (10/5): Great Stay. Excellent staff!! - Great place! Great staff! Great food! Great time!
The car park is abit run down but it belongs to the council not the premier inn itself. It also doesn’t have any direction to the hotel but it’s level 4.
Shout out to Harrison, Kelly, Georgia, Julie, Lucy, James, Kyle, Jess, Gareth, Sammi and Molly. All made my stay perfect when I arrived. Not a lovely bunch then these!
THANKYOU!
- markaN1578GD (10/5): Stay with friends - Stayed here for a couple a nights and had a fantastic stay. The breakfast served by Sammy the manager did amazing credit to the hotel. The room was clean and the food was lovely.
- suetG7840GD (10/5): Outstanding care and kindness from the staff; a clean and comfortable room; very good value for money. We shall return. - I stayed a full week, visiting family and friends around S Yorkshire. The hotel is very conveniently situated for the conurbation and the Pennines. I had an excellent disability-accessible room on the ground floor; it was simply furnished but was comfortable, very clean and the bathroom was well furnished with grab rails. The staff at reception, in the dining room and in the kitchen were particularly warm and friendly. Unknown to them, we are going through difficult times and arrived exhausted: their kindness really enabled us to relax and wake refreshed and ready for the challenges facing us each day. Hats off to the chef, they can make better porridge than I can! We frequent P Inn regularly; this is for sure among the best and we will be returning.
- oldhamlad81 (6/5): The rooms are too hot - I use this hotel 3 times a year and each times the rooms get hotter…The temperature doesn’t drop enough and the windows are shut permanently you cant open them….This really needs to be sorted as you cant sleep properly as the rooms are that hot….Also they have shut off the bar to the general public .
- lukefQ5417CK (10/5): Great location & staff - Great location, nice rooms. Kelly & Harrison provided really good customer service both when we arrived and throughout the night in the bar restaurant
- jasonharding136 (10/5): Nice friendly accommodating - Sammy at reception went above and beyond for all of us today we have a very early flight and she accommodated us all couldn't be happier wit the service thanks a mill
- DMJohnson59 (8/5): Great location for central Barnsley - Stayed here many times
Great location, Staff good, car park close by and cheap but car park is not very clean (not premier inn car park)
- 599paigeb (10/5): Lovely visit - Came with my partner for a night away, the hotel was lovely and clean, staff were very polite Julie on reception made sure our check in went smoothly. Compliments to the chef as the food was amazing. We will definitely be returning.
- Climber24753352821 (2/5): AVOID DISGUSTING - Normally a fan of Premier inns and having had a pleasant stay at Premier in slough SW the night before me and the family were looking forward to 3 nights in Barnsley Central - especially the breakfast! HOWEVER……. The restaurant and food areas are DISGUSTING, filthy trays storing glasses, brown slimy work surfaces, rotting food stuck in broken tiles, smeared stainless steel and generally a mess with little effort to clean up. Premier Inn customer services were not particularly interested in the feedback and would not accept the photos to demonstrate just how bad this portrays the Premier Inn brand. Barnsley council have been informed and hopefully the current 5 star (2023) food rating will be reviewed and reflect the poor hygiene practices.
- Jo987654321Jo (10/5): Brilliant! Thankyou Barnsley central premier inn - Although my room was in dire need of a refurbishment (as is the rest of the hotel tbh) it was absolutely spotlessly clean, the staff that were cleaning rooms were extremely polite, friendly, helpful and very cheery. The reception staff also work in the restaurant serving guests, Julie (?) was absolutely amazing, that lady never stopped for a second, constantly moving around, serving people in the restaurant, cleaning tables and service areas as she went, as well as popping through to attend to guests in the reception, all the while with such grace and a smile on her face, an absolute lady and a credit to the company! Breakfast was lovely, was served just as I had asked for, lovely well done bacon, perfectly cooked eggs and sausages, it was nice and hot too, even though breakfast was extremely busy, So a big thankyou to the chef Steve, I would definitely recommend his breakfast! 5 stars from me!
The hotel is located near the town hall, and is just a few minutes walk into the town center and the bus and train station. There is a multi storey carpark that is under the hotel and also a carpark across from the hotel near the 'one stop shop'. I do believe both carparks belong to the local council and not to premier inn, I would suggest using the carpark across from the hotel rather than the multi storey one.
- estherb319 (10/5): Cheap - and surprisingly good! - This Premier Inn was cheap - and amazing! The staff team were welcoming and really helpful. The room was spacious, bed really comfortable. From 4th floor we had a wonderful view over Barnsley. The bar and restaurant area are attractive, great for an evening meal and relaxing in.
- 983phils (10/5): Great stay - Had a great stay. Room clean. Bed super comfy. Reception, bar and restaurant staff very friendly and wanting to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The cooked breakfast was very well cooked. I would definitely recommend.
- waynespeed (2/5): Barnsley center - bathroom not clean Bar did not open till 6pm and very poor options on the menu staff were nice but could have done with a better clean in the room itself
- PeteCoombs56 (8/5): Comfortable Stay - A well located, comfortable hotel. Very welcoming staff.
Decor getting worn and tired in places, time for a refresh otherwise very good.
Evening meals not available whilst l was there.
- Q6995ODvictoriaw (8/5): Centrally located hotel with helpful staff - Had a good stay just for one night. Very centrally located for public transport. The room was spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. I loved that there was a full sized bath.
Very good value. Breakfast was cooked to order and a good vegetarian selection. Lovely yoghurt and compote. As a solo traveler, I liked that dinner was available in the hotel. Nice selection on the 2 course deal and the rose wine was outstanding! Breakfast front of house and chef were excellent.
Four stars because the room had a few signs of wear and tear and at dinner main course was served before I had finished my starter. I absolutely would stay again and appreciated onward travel advice from the staff on check in
- G8307SOamyd (10/5): Fab! - I stayed overnight as I was visiting family. Was greeted at reception very promptly and the receptionist explained everything to Me and what I needed to do to get up to my room. Didn’t have an evening meal but did stop in for a quick drink before I went for my meal with my family excellent service bubbly and friendly staff.
Had breakfast the following morning waited a few minutes for someone to seat me. The cooked breakfast was excellent coffee, juice, toast just as I expected.
On checking out the receptionist was very friendly and wish Me a good day and I popped my key in the box.
Will definitely be returning to stay 10 out of 10!
- YorkshireOwl66 (6/5): Warm welcome - We stayed on a Saturday night because we were meeting friends for a night out. The lad on reception was very welcoming but that was the only good thing about the hotel, it has the feel that it is about to close down. Our room was in dire need of a good renovation, the toilet was leaking and we had to put a towel round the bottom of it plus all the panels in the bathroom were falling apart. Premier inn management need to start investing some money into their brand.
I had rung in the week and asked for a quiet room but even though we were located on the top floor we could hear boy races flying about all night so sleep was really hit and miss.
- Far2G0 (8/5): No restaurant but still open - This is a good Premier Inn with helpful staff. The bedrooms are Premier Inn standard. For those tired of sitting down all day, there is a nice local common with great walks which is accessible from the hotel without a vehicle.
HOWEVER, at this moment, the Wentworth Restaurant is closed (until Christmas). It will become a Wetherspoons (which is great news) but be aware that, although they have converted bedrooms into a breakfast room, there is no restaurant on site. The only one within walking distance is McDonalds or the Tankarsley Manor up the road
- Dream44650536279 (2/5): "AVOID" at all costs - Absolutely terrible food stone cold and the girl who works there called Molly with brown hair as bad hygiene never clean and handling food bin here several times "AVOID" at all costs
- OnAir33895954039 (10/5): Work - Great location rooms very clean couldn't have asked for better. Staff was really helpful and polite. If around barnsley would recommend staying here
- traceyfP6598AF (10/5): 2 night stay - Excellent stay, staff very helpful and friendly. Room was very nice and clean. Breakfast was exemplary and nice and hot.
- MatthewP1121 (4/5): Very disappointing - Sadly had a bad experience. Didn’t sleep as was literally sweating in my bed. There is no air conditioning at this hotel and my room reached 26° by the middle of the night. The window hardly opens to allow air in and I wasn’t offered a fan. Even the cleaner said in the morning that she wanted to clean the rooms on the other side of the corridor as ‘my side’ were too hot to work in. My bathroom stank of ‘damp washing’ from the shower curtain.
- Fomzine (6/5): Typical Premier Inn with nice staff but the sale of the restaurant worked out badly for us - Something of a mixed bag in our experience of this Premier Inn.
What they did well:
Clean, comfortable bedroom and bathroom.
Ample car parking.
Staff kindly let us work in the breakfast room after checkout time.
Staff were friendly and helpful and did apologise for the restaurant closure and did suggest alternative restaurants to drive to.
What they did not do well:
Accepted my evening meal deal booking less than a couple of weeks before my stay. Whitbread had already sold the restaurant, and it was closed on the evening of my stay. Did get a refund but severely inconvenienced my stay, especially as this Premier Inn is in the middle of nowhere with no other restaurants nearby. After a 4 hour drive to reach the hotel I was left with nowhere to get a proper evening meal.
At breakfast most of the hot food items had run out. The chef was clearly not monitoring what was running low and cooking more to replenish the buffet.
Would I stay there again? No, not now I know there is a Mercure just around the corner.
- kellylouiseseedall (10/5): Comfy beds and lovely friendly staff - Lovely friendly staff, very accommodating and beds really comfortable. We checked in very late but was no problem at all
- samanthay636 (10/5): Gladiators stay - We stayed to go and see the Gladiators at Sheffield Arena with two kids. the staff were freindly and couldn't do enough for you. The room was spacious and clean with everything we need
- W7558CKhenrys (10/5): Family stay - Perfect stay. We love the new breakfast room, food was really tasty and the staff were really really freindley. The rooms was great with everything we needed
- A3291ZTstephaniel (10/5): Fantastic - New breakfast room is excellent and shout out to Glyn whose attentive service was just lovely.
The room was clean and bed comfortable as always and great service in reception area too.i always stay here when working in the area. Great Premier Inn
- duckydu (10/5): Fantastic breakfast - We always stay here when visiting family. Never had any problems. Pleasant staff and a great breakfast to start the day.
- FireAlan (2/5): Room ok ,food and drink package a disaster - Food and drink package disaster, made to have what was left after stock run down.Package should have been cancelled before hand.
- DaveA706 (10/5): Special thanks to Nustrat on Reception. Jct . 36 Premier Inn. Barnsley - We stayed for just one night June 21st 2025. The lady on reception ( NUSTRAT ) went above and beyond to make our stay as relaxing as possible. My Husband and I had been on an Emmerdale Tour which was very tiring due to the excessive heat. Nustrat gave us some lovely cool water and a fan to cool us down a bit. Her friendliness will not be forgotten. Thank you Nustrat for making our stay so pleasurable. x I do hope our thanks are passed on to her....
- loo0789 (10/5): One night stay - Very friendly reception team who are always on hand to help, no complaints about our stay whatsoever. Needed to change our room because the bed was too small for us and it was done with ease. Rooms are fully equipped with everything you could need, we didn’t use the restaurant on site but the menu looked lovely.
- A5398YEalanf (10/5): Excellent relaxed stay. - Staff were excellent. Room was quiet, bed was very comfy and the 5 star review was totally deserved. Check in was very easy from the friendly staff and as we were exhausted from the day, it was welcome to see the deep bath .lots of tea and coffee was supplied in the room and in reception. A short walk to the pub next door for a meal or drink. Great stay.
- jillrG7685TD (10/5): Relaxing stay at the Premier, Tankersley - The greatest asset of the Premier Inn at Tankersley is its staff. They are
without exception efficient, friendly, helpful, smiley and kind. Jackie was our receptionist during our latest stay and, as my husband is disabled and an accessible room was not available, she organised all our luggage to be taken from the car up to our room. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and though it clearly could do with an upgrade, the bathroom especially, all the amenities were there and they all worked.
Breakfast at the on site Brewers Fayre was a bit disappointing. The plates for the cooked breakfast are never warm enough so that by the time you have finished eating, items such as mushrooms, tomatoes etc are stone cold. Such a pity that the 'cooked to order' breakfast has been discontinued; the plates and the food were always hot then.
Also the front of the coffee machine is quite dirty and needs a good clean as does the hot water machine next to it...
- jamespV3208UV (10/5): Competition visit - Recently stayed for a competition in Sheffield. Just what we needed for a quick one night away. Great staff on welcome and they had water out because it was warm and offered us a sheet instead of a duvet which was a nice touch. Room was clean and breakfast was nice
- DCOC (8/5): Good stay for 2 nights - We stayed for 2 nights and had dinner both nights - I had read the previous reviews and asked for a quiet room upstairs at the back - we were in room 50 something and although far from reception - it was nice and quiet. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff and all staff that we met were very helpful. Dinner in the attached Brewers Fayre was the usual - not spectacular but will keep you alive!! Breakfast was good and plenty of choice.
- nadinemF8737PS (2/5): Poor hotel needs major refurbishment, filthy also - Stayed here travelling with family. Checked in was quick and no problems.
Got 2 rooms for the 4 of us and the first thing we had to do was stand on the bed and whipe the multiple cobwebs on the wall over the bed, really visible so I'm really gob smacked how cleaners missed them....there was alot and we had to do both rooms. The room looked very tired all over and I dare not lift back sheets to check mattress after seeing the room.
The bathroom was same....old and tired and not the cleanest. Toilet marks in one toilet...leave that to your imagination.
On the carpet in the room was a large red stain...looked like blood so we spent the time in the room constantly wearing shoes wherever we went.
Ate food in restaurant next door, staff nice but food awful
1 stars as bed was comfy.
Unless the hotel has a refurbished would deffinitley not stay here again unfortunately.
- D823SGterryd (10/5): Work - My company always books me in here and i wont go anywhere else.. Breakfast staff know me and the receptioinst always puts me in the room i like on the first floor the parking is free ad the bars always open. so happy days for me when im away for work
