Guest Reviews
- bethbD7909XP (10/5): Warm and cosy. - Hotel was warm, clean, quiet and very comfortable. Lots of parking.
Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
We ate in the restaurant and my husband who has coeliac diseases was very well catered for with his food freshly cooked to minimise cross contamination.
Will stay again.
- jeansB1756FS (8/5): Excellent location for station - Very pleasant staff. Room very clean but bedside shelf far too small for essentials, phone, drink, pills etc. Also noticed nowhere to put laptop.
- Roving43241490808 (10/5): Great stay - Great location, comfort, cleanliness and value for money would recommend a stay here 👍 we will be back to stay again- thanks
- 777sylwiap (10/5): Great stay! - Great hotel. Really clean and very welcoming front desk staff.
Clean and comfortable. Free parking included. Short walk to the city centre.
- andrewrI4984UZ (4/5): Don't use Premier Inn, too expensive not worth it. - Room was cold most of the time, hotel constantly turned off the heating. When we arrived we had half a recycled toilet roll, and towels were hard, after reporting this to reception we received one new 1 ply toilet roll. Booking a Plus room states sweet treats and water daily, this was denied by reception who claimed it was only on the first night. UNTRUE
There seems little point in paying the extra, only to be presented with a room that has stained carpets and cheap soap's that are easily available in most discount stores. Then you have the attached Brewers Fair, no wine glasses, no ice, no working coffee machine for our morning breakfast. Even worst they close a 9pm, with some drinks not available due to no stock and staff that really didn't care if you were their or not.
The food is all prepared in a microwave, and served in or on a plate that is too hot to handle.
Not worth the £500 we paid for a four night stay, never again and have already cancelled two future booking for next year.
- 384joannel (6/5): Another Good Stay But…. - This was another lovely stay as we have stayed in this Premier Inn quite a number of times. We were in room 307 on the third floor. On arrival we were greeted well by the receptionist and checking in was very quick. The front lift was broken(always seems to be broken when we visit) but did get fixed before we left so had to use the back one along the corridor. Room was of good standard but needed a dust in places. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice but could have been a bit warmer. Only downside was when I got home I realised I had left a t-shirt in the room. I rang the following morning to ask if it had been found when the room was cleaned but apparently not. I know it is my responsibility to make sure I had everything before we left but I feel as though I was lied to as I 100% know I left it in that room so where did it go. I would have given it top marks but because of this situation I had to give it less.
- graciem702 (10/5): Brilliant - Kim went above and beyond especially at such a busy time. Lovely clean hotel with a bath (unreal). Would recommend, thank you Kim!
- Mazzles_25 (6/5): Just average - Corridors had a very strong smell of smoke. Wasn’t fresh as other premier inns are.
Room was a decent size and the bed was comfy as usual.
The cups had hairs on and were sat on a dusty tray. Found hairs in the bed and bathroom as well as mould on the ceiling.
Whoever was in the room above - they were either very heavy footed or the hotel was rickety as it sounded like elephants up there!
It did the job for our stay. We needed sleep effectively and somewhere to store luggage.
We chose this location based on free parking but, if in the area again, would probably choose to pay parking and use a different hotel.
We had a drink at the pub but chose not to eat there based on the cleanliness of tables
- P6297ZGdebbiep (10/5): Enjoyed our stay, no issues - Location great. Comfortable clean and quiet. We were on the second floor. Had the best sleep, and I don't sleep well. Couldn't fault it to be honest. Was nervous as there are a lot of bad reviews but I couldn't reconcile those with our stay.
- Paul (10/5): - Everthing
- johnnJ6262TD (8/5): Definitely a place to revisit. - The hotel was the best Premier Inn I’ve been in. The Plus rooms were brilliant. Large and airy. A great night sleep. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Well placed for the centre of Chester, a 5 minute walk. Great South Indian restaurant, next door.
- yvonneg987 (10/5): Highly recommended - We stayed the night before an early flight from Cardiff. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, asking if we’d like to book for breakfast. We declined, as had to leave at 3.30am! However we did book to eat in the adjoining Beefeater restaurant. The room was perfect, as it was on the ground floor and the closest to reception, so leaving very early in the morning we didn’t disturb anyone. It was very clean and smelt as though it had been recently decorated or refurbished. The bed was extremely comfortable too. Our meal in the Beefeater was delicious. I’d read mixed reviews previously, so didn’t know what to expect. We both had steak and it was cooked exactly as requested. We would definitely stay and eat here again.
- jimbo-steven45 (10/5): Great stay - Room extremely clean!
Kim on reception, very friendly and helpful.
Plenty of parking.
Great night's sleep.
Will definitely be recommending and staying again when in the area.
- O9955HFdavidc (6/5): Noisy again! - We stayed for 1 night on October 28th. The hotel was generally acceptable, but noise levels were not. Had to go to reception and ask them to request the guests upstairs to stop running back and forth repeatedly across their room at 5 .30 in the morning. This building must be timber framed as the sound proofing is very poor and the structure creaking made it worse. No chance of a decent night's sleep here. Ironically, we stayed in another Premier Inn two weeks ago, with noise disturbance during a lot of the night. If you must stay here, I would insist on an upstairs room and hope for the best. Reception did appear to do something, as it went quiet after 6.45am.
- Wotnohair (10/5): Ace location - Location is excellent, just a short walk from the railway station and into town. If you drive then be warned that parking on the street and not paying will get you a ticket, or clamped as one person was and on a Sunday. The hotel has a car park so I recommend that you use it. The welcome was friendly and efficient. The rooms are clean. Beds wide and comfortable with tea/coffee facilities. Didn’t use the restaurant so can’t comment on the quality of food. Would I stay here again ? Definitely !
- chrisaY3652JN (10/5): Lovely staff - Great location, staff are so friendly and helpful, will definitely stay again when I am in the area, the beefeater restaurant on the side is a bonus as well
- juliek202 (10/5): Great location for weekend stay it Chester. - Great location for visit to Chester. Rooms clean, comfortable and updated. Lovely welcome and we managed to get in the car park. £30 for 48 hours even with discount code! though I don’t know what other car park prices are like and it is in the city centre really. Lovely weekend break with friends.
- Debthefoodie (8/5): Lovely staff - Really helpful & friendly staff. Hotel in good location with bus stop into the city only a couple of minutes away.
One star off for minor housekeeping issues and a rather unpleasant, greasy meal in the evening (fish with chickpeas & grains).
The car park next door is costly but hotel guests get a discount.
- suekR2741RX (10/5): Clean and spacious - This was my first time staying in a Premier Inn and I was pleasantly surprised! My room was spacious, modern and extremely clean. Bathroom was small, but modern and spotless.
Great location a few minutes walk into the city centre and one minute walk to the train station.
- 918philipc (8/5): Well done Premier Inn, well done Karen! - Three nights in this very busy hotel. The staff were often under real pressure eg check in, breakfast. All the staff we came across were without exception welcoming and engaging. Particular shout-out for Karen who seemed to be everywhere - a brilliant effort.
As usual, room, cleanliness, and swift response to queries were up to the standard we've come to expect from Premier Inn.
- leotI4842FN (10/5): A warm welcome - After a long day filled with travelling and graft, I was greeted with the most friendly staff who really helped boost my mood after a gruelling day, one of the staff was in training but he was more than qualified enough to help with the checking in process
- 596bmd (4/5): Nice room but threatened with a parking fine! - Dodgy location but comfortable room and efficient check in. The big negative was getting a threatening message from the company that runs the car park. I'd signed in my lease car, but they sent the lease company a letter with only one challenge allowed. Therefore I couldn't challenge it or get through to the hotel. When I did speak to someone from the hotel, he accepted no responsibility for the company that premier inn choose to use for their parking. Very poor.
- dave28122018 (2/5): not impressed - very poor cleanliness of the bedroom and bathroom, dust everywhere unsanitary bathroom and cup marks on surfaces . expected more from premier inn
- micahen (4/5): Only location was good - Positive: close to city center, most of employees were nice, spacy bedroom.
Negative: room was not soundproofing at all, could hear everything from upper room, even walksteps and conversations. Guests were noisy in the corridor and no one from the hotel controled it. Bathroom ventilation really noisy.
- 523huwc (10/5): Excellent, service, location and comfort. - My third stay here, excellent location and service, very clean and comfortable, good breakfast, thoroughly recommended.
- Bertybign (10/5): Comfortable hotel NOT close to train station. - The management have really got this place sorted. Everything is thought out and convenient and super-clean. Even the air conditioning worked well which is really quite rare for a big hotel with medium prices. Breakfast buffet had everything that I wanted BUT the fried eggs were replaced with a new platter in front of me yet they were completely cold with hard yolks.!!That is quite an achievement!
I have two criticisms which are not major but were irritating:
1. The standard WiFi was almost non-existent with a speed of 0.25 mb/s. I had trouble downloading even basic emails so had to pay the £5 for super fast speed which was still only 20mb/s.
2. The location is about 300m from the station which was a struggle for me with three heavy cases and a bad hip.
I believe that these two issues are worthy of investigation for mis-representation.
- FarAway09153868316 (10/5): Another great visit! - A great experience. After a 5 hour drive - a warm welcome from Kim and the team who made checking in simple and easy. The new Premier Plus rooms are excellent!
- DaniTravels93 (10/5): Enjoyable Stay! - Lovely little compact hotel next door to Chester station. Modern rooms. Comfy bed. Power shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Great breakfast. There is chargeable on-site parking, however the carpark is extremely small and tight with limited spaces (had to go down an alleyway behind the hotel to find it). Reduced rate of £15 for 24 hours for hotel guests. There is also plenty of chargeable on street parking spaces right outside the front of the hotel. Had an amazing night’s sleep and thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
- Chris0007 (10/5): Fantastic stay - fantastic staff!! - Visited here with 2 friends, meant to be 3 but unfortunately one was poorly. I must of all first say that upon hearing this the great guy on reception extended the "saver rate" prepay booking on that room for a further 12 months! How fantastic of him thank u very much! Hotel is very new, all rooms are updated and very high standard. Great location - 4 mins walk from train station. Staff at all times are brilliant so friendly. Breakfast is really good, one of the best Prem Inn ones I have had. There is a small carpark under the hotel, not many spaces and first come first served. Even without the room being paid for another 12 months we would def be back!
- ginetteb937 (6/5): Dissappinted - The hotel was superb we've stayed here many times the rooms are comfortable and well equipped however we were very disappointed when we found the walston castle shut its doors at 10 pm on friday and 9pm on Saturday this was one of the main reasons we choose to stay here as usually it didn't shut till eleven to twelve o clock! So we were not happy at all when we couldn't sit and relax in the pub as we used to ! So unfortunately for this reason we will not be returning we will find somewhere else that caters for customers as this is a major part in our 4 and a half trip down to Cardiff! So people if you want an early night stay here ! If not stay somewhere else
- peterjZ1820YH (10/5): Visiting Family and freinds - The hotel was very good for location the staff were lovely and freindly the foos was great and service was excellent. I have stayed there a few years and it's my goto hotel when i'm in Cardiff.
- 1brindad (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - We stayed for three nights in a Premier plus room. Very good value for money and very convenient for sightseeing.
We had breakfast in the hotel and one evening meal, all good value and good standard of food.
A small criticism was that the entrance had a lot of cigarette butts which needed sweeping up and some corridors needed vacuuming.
A very good stay, very quiet and peaceful with friendly staff
- 533trb (8/5): Mixed bag - Room good, though getting online to better wifi was a faff. Not easy to transfer a 10-character code from email on phone to logging in on same phone. Should be issued on paper at check in. Comfortable bed and decent walk-in shower.
Staff friendly but undermanned, at front desk and in breakfast.
On one evening, heard two separate guests ask for. but not get, a change of room. One because of noisy machinery adjacent to room, other because room smelled of drains. Unlikely that either of these problems was unknown to management beforehand. Would make me hesitate to use again.
- siobhant411 (6/5): Needs updating - The staff were super friendly and very helpful (as much as they were able to be).
We requested a late check out and were told that was not a service offered by the hotel at all.
The carpets in the corridors were filthy and very badly stained.
The carpet in our room was frayed and dirty.
There was no air con in the room, which was hot and stuffy despite the window being left open.
On the plus side, the hotel put out free fruit, water and snacks fo the half marathon runners, which was a lovely touch.
- bulldog19 (10/5): One of the best premier inns - One of the best premier inns have stayed at , with the next evolution rooms makes a huge difference , service good and a very good breakfast in great location
- Roundandabout73 (6/5): Mediocre Front of house staff !!! - Right from check in desk unmanned and when pressed desk buzzer no one came for a while
When person then came to assist they looked fed up we buzzed them to assist us then they served 3 people who came in after us that obviously stayed there who came to collect there luggage from behind the counter before they departed
Not an hello or who's first please or any manners at all
That went on throughout our 2 day stay check in for breakfast on the Thursday was another wait to be seated for nearly 5 -10 minutes
Went for breakfast on the Friday said morning to the man talking to the woman chef behind the counter they looked and totally ignored me absolute rude
Positive note young girl with glasses on the Friday morning breakfast check in was very efficient and tentative
Also like to point out cleaners of a morning very friendly and polite a credit to the business you just need to sort out your front of house staff it's not a good selling point to come back just aweful
- ClaireP1352 (8/5): Super friendly staff and great location - Kim on reception was lovely and very welcoming and so helpful after a long journey with the kids!
Much better than other premier inns we have stayed in. Clean comfy beds and perfect for the kids.
4/5 as some bits in the room such as the door etc were damaged
- Getaway813869 (10/5): great stay - central location in Cardiff. very friendly staff. excellent breakfast. comfy upgraded room with air con. lovely walk in shower. would stay again.
- TasmynBrown (10/5): Kindness and Comfort at Chester Railway - We had a lovely stay at Premier Inn Chester, made even better by the fantastic staff. Ewan checked us in and was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We saw him again later working at the bar, and he took the time to chat and have a laugh with us. A really genuine and personable guy.
Karen, who was also working across reception and the bar, was equally friendly and helpful.
Olivia was another standout. We met her at the bar and again at reception, and she was warm, chatty, and made us feel right at home. The team really added a personal touch to our stay, and we appreciated their kindness and energy.
The room was spotless, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay.
Breakfast was very good, offering a great selection of hot and cold options, all fresh and tasty. It was the perfect start to each day.
We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Chester! Thank you! x
- grahampU7452VZ (10/5): An excellent stay in Chester. - This was our first visit to Chester. Arriving by train, the hotel was acceptably close to the station and the city centre. Check in was friendly and quick. Our room was very pleasant - clean, comfortable and quiet. Our continental breakfasts were very good and our evening meals and drinks on all four nights of our stay were excellent - well prepared and served by very pleasant staff. We were very happy with this hotel.
- nataliehersnip (8/5): Brilliant value for money! - Lovely modern room. Excellent value for money! Check in was very easy, staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is brilliant just 10/15 minute walk into the centre. Breakfast was very good quality and very good value for money. My only criticism is that some of the common areas were a bit tired. The leather seating in the restaurant was cracked and worn and the floors were sticky. The toilets behind reception weren’t overly clean but this wouldn’t stop me from visiting again.
- HuskeyD (6/5): 5 star rates for a minus 3 star tired accommodation. - Tired premises and way over priced. better and cheper accommodation can be obtained in the city centre.
The puplic bar next door has little stock and closes around 9.00pm
- Olivermac (2/5): Shocking if there was a minus star rating it would be minus 5 stars + - This is the worst premier inn I have experienced, from dirty floors to human Faeces in the toilet in a supposedly clean room, blood on the pillow, Dirty bathroom taps, Dirty shower gel holders, Paint peeling, dirty skirting boards, Room chair did not sit on because it was extremely dirty, laminate peeling away from the desk top,Fully stained Carpet and the list can go on and on. And about the Restaurant next door outside seating areas smelling of cannabis, had one meal ended up been sick throughout the night.
- FarAway39295346131 (10/5): Perfect trip - Gem of a Hotel...ideally located with great links to Cardiff and Barry island....Staff went above and beyond nothing to much trouble...Rooms just been updated so pleasant stay all round ... Will definitely use them again . A+++++
- Titch-the-Witch (8/5): A good place to stay not far from Cardiff centre - We stayed here for two nights after our arrival at Bristol Airport and before heading further west along the coast. Premier Inns are pretty standard, usually clean with comfortable beds. This one was no different. The receptionist on our arrival, a Hungarian young man, was very friendly and helpful.
We appreciated that we could walk to the city centre easily from here.
On the downside, I wish the shower hose wasn't fixed and you have to request to have your room cleaned if you stay more than one night. The free WiFi is not very reliable.
- Victoria6994 (10/5): University Open day visit - Stayed for one night for Cardiff University open day. You get 24 hour free parking just make sure to register your reg in the machine in reception. We left our car in the carpark and walked to the University, approx 25 min walk.
There is a Lidl opposite which we found useful to buy a quick breakfast snack.
Beware the pub next door shuts at 10pm. We arrived at 9.45pm just in time for last orders.
Perfect for a 1 night stay. Usual premier inn room layout and great location for our visit.
- suebY961TF (6/5): Disappointing stay - Disappointing breakfast. No decaf tea, no milk by coffee/tea station. Toaster was intermittent in operation and when working VERY slow. Staff not interested. Watched a child with their fingers in a bowl of fruit on the buffet table.
Room ok, but again no decaf drinks
Not the standard I expect from Premier Inn
- SWDGY (2/5): Convenient, room too hot, shower not accessible, hairdryer kept cutting out - Convenient location for business, and freep parking, but that's where the good things end.
The temperature in the room was very high at 26 degrees, couldn’t be altered, and reception weren't interested other than to say "put the fan on". OK- put the fan on and you have the choice of being unable to sleep because of the noise of the fan, or switch it off and be unable to sleep because of the high temperature.
The shower was in the bath, therefore not accessible.
The hairdryer kept cutting out, so it took three times longer than normal to dry hair.
- C6789PWdonnal (10/5): Great service and standards - Ideal location just outside the city so a nice peaceful area, friendly helpful staff, parking free but you must register your vehicle to ensure you don’t get a fine, usual procedure for somewhere so close to a city centre, signage informing about this very clear and receptionist also ensured we had registered, advertised without air con so aware this was an older hotel, clean to premier inn standards however corridors need a bit of attention and refreshing from Maintenance but overall a great base for cardiff.
- Joboult (2/5): Awful - We usually go for premier inn as has the family room, good breakfast and you know what you will get.
I can honestly say this is THE WORST premier inn we've stayed at. Room smelled of smoke and wet dog. All beds pushed together no space around them. Nothing was clean, all a bit 'sticky'. Stained desk chair really nasty. Stained carpets all up the hall. Just a very grubby hotel. People obviously smoking weed in rooms and predictably the fire alarm had us all out of bed at 10pm so thanks whoever that was.
Next morning we hadn't booked breakfast so on a Thursday morning were told sternly they weren't accepting walk ins! No space even later in the morning. So we went to the premier inn cardiff bay instead which was the best move ever. So wish we had booked this premier inn instead.
We will not be back here!
- 338kezh (10/5): Would recommend - Friendly staff
Rooms very clean and tidy
A lot of options on the menu and the beefeater next door
Would definitely stay again
- 901bazh (4/5): Lack of staff made it awful - Lack of staff clearly ruined our stay. No one in reception. One staff at breakfast (trying to seat everyone and take orders as apparently the advertised buffet was not a buffet).
No continental and was told “sorry we’ve sold out” even though five breakfast were paid for.
The cooked breakfast was not great. Raw eggs.
Think I’ll give premier a miss next time we there seems to be a theme with them…
- Explore66963027169 (2/5): Poor service, poor food and filthy room. - I usually rate Premier Inn highly, but this hotel was way below par... After a long motorbike ride, all I needed was a shower, a good meal and some sleep. On entering my room, it was obvious that the floor had not been vacuumed and on going into.the bathroom for my shower, I found a used (still damp) towel hanging on the door and two pairs of dirty underpants on the floor... On showing this to the receptionist, he didn't seem too bothered. He just mumbled something about housekeeping and nonchalantly offered me a refund on my meal deal... The Brewers Fayre next door wasn't much better, it was understaffed with only the new manager and one other person waiting on tables and working the bar... And the food was mediocre at best. Breakfast was much the same as above... All in all not the best experience and I shall not be using that particular hotel again...
- afriyiep (10/5): Great service - Good value for money. Great service. Lots of options for breakfast. Comfy bed. Gets the basics right for what you pay. First time staying here and I have no complaints.
- stalboy (6/5): Hot stuff !! - Agree with the number of people who have remarked on how hot this PI is. OK, they have put fans in the room, but they are pretty loud to add to the noise from the busy road at the rear. Heaven only knows how hot things must have been in the recent heatwaves.
Staff are helpful and cheerful, but the place is in need of a redecoration job and the floors should be cleaned better. We noticed that a robot is used to hoover the corridors, but obv they do not work on stairs, which are absolutely filthy as a result.
Breakfast was standard PI fare, though the pub in which it was served was a bit grubby and also unbearably hot.
- j02711 (4/5): Worst Prem inn I have stayed at - Too hot too handle - First positives - decent sized room, free car park, very quiet. 30mins walk from town, flat walk so doable in the summer probably wouldn't be a good idea in the winter.
Cleanliness was average definitely a rushed job but beds were clean even if plug hole and floors weren't 100%.
The reason I wouldnt stay again and the low rating is due to sleep quality. Although I appriciate it is advertised as no air con and they do provide a fan the whole hotel is unbearably hot. The window was open when we checked in, we left it open all the time we were out (got back at 11.30pm) and left it open all night and the fan on all night also. The room never cooled. We slept on top of the covers and still couldn't get any cooler.
Breakfast also let the hotel down only the black pudding and eggs on the buffet were hot. Bacon and sausages were replaced while we were waiting and were cold straight away.
Not the normal premier inn quality.
- simongV8926PK (10/5): good value, friendly and easy to get too - Travelled to Cardiff for my daugters wedding - we arrived really early - wedding was at 1pm and check in was 3pm - The reception staff were so accomodating that we were given an early check in at no charge so we could prepare. It was really appreciated.
All staff were very friendly, the room was immaculate, and the bathroom was spot on....teac/coffee and kettle in room - with large TV - Bed was big and comfortable.
Although only a short stay, we wouldn't hesitate to book again if we return to Cardiff.
The only downside is the Beef-Eater restaurant where we had breakfast - furniture could do with a good clean and tables were sticky ! - You have to pre-book your brekfast time - which was a little inconvenient.
- T5082IJemmaw (10/5): staff very helpful when needed - staff was helpful when needed - also very welcoming - kids enjoyed the stay and staff interacted with them - easy to find not far from main shops
- Wauwa22 (10/5): Excellent staff & customer service - Had a great 2 night stay here for the Oasis gig in Cardiff. The lady at reception on the day was so pleasant and friendly when we checked in. Rooms were comfy & airy for the hot July weather. I had left items behind in the hotel when we checked out, both Rachel & Georgia went above and beyond communicating via email about my lost items and posted them out to me again. The customer service was excellent and for that alone I would recommend this hotel. Thanks guys!
- Sanfidele (6/5): Allow enough time for breakfast (I didn’t !) - As to be expected a great bed and good room. However, unusually for a Premier Inn breakfasts are cooked to order. Mine arrived minus my bacon As I was running a bit late already I didn’t complain as waiting to put things right could have taken some time because there appeared to be only one person seating people, taking order and serving. He was rushed off his feet. I hope he is well paid.
- G7571ZZsophiec (10/5): Amazing stay !! - Stayed here for our trip to Barry, got an excellent deal with an upgrade!! Rooms were amazing, beds were so comfy. Would definitely be back.
