Guest Reviews
- Cinnamon (2/5): - No shampoo or washcloth. One towel for two people. No Kleenex. Very basic room for £150 is not worth it. Find any other hotel that at least offers shampoo.
- CleethorpesSpirite (10/5): Staff were top class and so helpful - All staff went out of their way to provide a good service. Very helpful and obliging and could not have been more pleasant. A nice comfortable room which was warm when the heating was put on. Ideally situated in the town centre, breakfast was excellent and the meal deal was well priced. Sirloin steak could have been improved but that wad the only downside.
- s-bucco58 (10/5): Great customer service, good value for money - Great central location, lovely chilled atmosphere. The rooms were spacious and clean, bed was very comfortable. We ate there in the evening and at breakfast time. Delicious food, great choice. The staff were wonderful, fabulous customer service from reception, bar and restaurant.
Overall great value for money. Would definitely go back
- 96lisap (10/5): Great experience - Had an excellent night. Giulio is an absolute hero, goes above and beyond. We need more Giulios in the world and please give the man a raise. Mo was also on and looked after us very well. Thank you
- Sophiia89 (10/5): Best staff - Giulio is such a hero, he's an amazing gentleman who goes above and beyond, he really is. We need more Giulios in the world x
- carrionc2021 (10/5): Premier Inn Chelmsford - Staff are welcoming and extremely friendly. Karis in particular was really helpful and went out of her way to provide an excellent service. Highly recommended.
- robcollman (10/5): Very nice stay - Had a very nice stay at Chelmsford City Centre last weekend.
Giulio, Joanna and Richard really went the extra mile to make sure our stay was perfect :)
We really enjoyed the bar/restaurant area (The Social) it made a real difference to the feel of the bar area, not to mention the 2-4-1 cocktails that are definitely recommended!!
Hopefully the Social will get rolled out nationwide!
- lorrainedG9810AY (2/5): Awful place - Stayed in room 201 awful experience bathroom full of damp grey patches on ceiling main bedroom carpet mites stains in the loo from last occupant the room should not of been let out and charged unfinished decorating on bathroom wall would never stay there again
- andrewmN3632RJ (2/5): Worst Premier Inn I have ever stayed in - This Premier Inn is the worst one I have ever stayed in, no food available (even though the web site says they are and meal deals are advertised as you go in), thin walls- you can hear people speaking in the room next door. The rooms are also very small. I would recommend that anyone wanting to stay here look elsewhere.
- C9582XTmarian (10/5): Fantastic experience - Fantastic, good food, clean, very well located to explore the town. Parking recommendations very helpful, around £8 for 24 hours.
- janemV9710KQ (2/5): Go elsewhere - This Premier Inn is pretty grim. Rooms are very small and bathrooms are tiny, would not look out of place in a camper van. There are no power plugs by the bed (essential if you use a sleep apnea mask). Reasonably clean, I would use other Premier Inns nearby. On arrival we were told that the freezer had broken in the nearby Monkey Puzzle, and that they were only serving drinks. Presumably this will also apply tomorrow morning for breakfast. Ordered a takeout which was ok. Walls are paper thin, can hear a family having a heated debate next door. Not anticipating a good nights sleep, whatever they advertise.
- carlbO4041DA (10/5): Excellent - Very clean, convenient and friendly stay, the staff were very accommodating and helpful, Giulio and nemasha were fantastic hosts and I would definitely stay here again!
- michaeltB5913RF (10/5): A Night's Stay for Birthday Celebrations - I've had the pleasure of staying here multiple times. It is generally the most comfortable and well-located budget hotel in Chelmsford. The rooms are clean, beds clean and comfy, and the staff, if you see them, are very friendly and helpful. It's especially useful for those travelling by train and bus or going to the theatre as the train and bus stations and Chelmsford Theatre are all less than five minutes away.
- E4009YGnh (2/5): Awful. - Hotel staff were very rude - could not have cared less that I was having issues with my payment card (which was rectified). As a woman travelling alone, I was not asked if I needed any help, if I was ok or if I needed anything. I was audibly saying I couldn’t get any signal and they completely ignored me but when other (male) guests came in to check in they were more than helpful. They were asked an array of questions, whether they wanted anything to eat etc - yet I was ignored.
The bed was horrendous, the pillows are absolutely rock solid (the spare ones too) so I didn’t sleep & the carpets felt / looked dirty. There was also an empty toilet roll left on the holder in the bathroom which I had to change. The only positive was how close it was to the train station after I’d been travelling for 4 hours, but the “welcome” quickly ruined that.
- Ibrahim (4/5): - Inget märkvärdigt. Rummet städades inte under 2 dagar.
- E3500ROgaryh (10/5): Working away from home - Staff are amazing always winning to go extra length to help nikki and chantel are a credit to the company nothing us ever too much to ask and give a warm welcome
- beaniew2017 (10/5): Excellent - Lovely room, amazing and friendly staff, good food. I would definitely stay there again as it isc1 of the best Premier inns that I have stayed in.
- 559hollys (6/5): Disappointing - needs refurb and airing out - Location great - next to station and near town centre. Room 105 was tired - smelled of damp, musty/mouldy smell which was unpleasant and gave the impression of overall lack of cleanliness. Bathroom was tired in need of attention but shower worked ok. Bed comfy. No TV remote and hairdryer did not sound safe!
- romanh349 (10/5): Great service and good cooking - It was a great experience for a first evening in this hotel.
Professional service from Joanna was more than we received before in other hotels.
Also, dinner was very well cooked by Raymond. We received all on time and well prepared.
Thank you 🙏
- grahampassat (10/5): Premier Inn at Chelmsford City - The friendly manager Giulio at Chelmsford City is helpful to us. We have been to different Premier Inn locations across the UK.
- Companion40646247892 (10/5): Bar Experience - Absolutely amazing stay and service. Special mentions go to Giulio and Nemasha for their wonderful evening hospitality. Really kind, professional and helpful.
- rosinae224 (10/5): Amazing all round - Had an amazing experience - specifically Chantel, Liz and Richard were very lovely 🙂 very chatty and friendly staff, amazing food and drinks, nice clean rooms and overall brilliant service. In a very convenient location right by train station!
- 247sallyw (4/5): Wrap up warm bring your water bottle - Hotel disappointing, it was freezing fan heated system, there is a thermostat in bedroom but this is overridden by reception. Good luck if you are staying when the snow comes, bring your slippers and a cardigan.
No heating in the bathroom- none at all no heated towel rail, it is 2025.
Had to ask for second time at 10.20pm to turn the heating up must have been 20 degrees they told me it was 22 I said it’s not my house is set at 22, and that’s warm.
Restaurant husband went and had to wear his coat it was so cold, food- cold mushy pea as my dinner was on the side for a while as they were still making my husband’s.
- U5958XQmaxb (10/5): lovely overnight stay after visiting my son - easy stay no problems - lovely clean room - nice shower - no bath
tv worked - a great nights sleep- Chesterfield is a great town with some traditional shops as well as the usual big shops on the trading estates
- 44DawnBe (10/5): 60th girls night out - We was greeted lovely by Kerry at reception and was able to check in early. Kerry saw my birthday balloon and offered me a bottle of Prosecco . Everything about our 1 night stay was fabulous
- 407kims (2/5): Grim - Just left this hotel after a 2 night stay, chosen due to its proximity to Chessington World of Adventure, didn’t even think to check the reviews as we’ve stayed at so many Premier Inn’s before and always found them to be really good. Fool!
The outside of the hotel looks nice enough but that’s where it ends. The room was really dated with old fashioned furniture and duct tape holding things together. However, the bedroom was luxury compared to the bathroom…worst bathroom I have ever seen! Grouting and shower curtain all mouldy, missing overflow cover, dirty floor and a ludicrous amount of sealant holding the toilet in place - whoever did it must have used a whole tube!! 🤣🤣 It was so minging that I had to shower by candle light like Charles Dickens as I couldn’t bear to look at my surroundings!
And the soundproofing (what soundproofing!) - when people walked past the room it sounded like they were inside with us, likely not helped by the large gap under the door! The floor boards were creakier than in a haunted house - when people walked around upstairs the noise was terrible in our room.
So in summary, it’s worth staying here for Chessington WoA as it’s literally at the entrance, but only if it’s dirt cheap. Set your expectations first and consider removing your eyeballs!
- 258evalynw (10/5): Perfection - Me and my Fiancée have been coming to Chelmsford City Centre Premier Inn for years. We can honestly say every visit has been delightful and memorable. The rooms are always spotless and you can never beat the comfort and beauty of a good nights sleep from the bed and the sound proof windows. This current trip we came. We’ve came familiar with the staff. Over the years we’ve always recognised the staff that work here, and they always seem to remember my fiancée and myself. One evening (Friday evening) we had the pleasure of the staff member Nikki who we’ve met numerous times during the Morning shifts where it’s breakfast. On Friday she was working the evening. Me and my Fiancée have always been found of Nikki and her characteristic and her overall presence. Service with a smile, very attentive and reassuring to my fiancée and myself. On this fine Friday evening we got the consent to have a picture with Nikki as myself stated to her that my stay doesn’t feel the same unless we get to see her. The Premier Inn Team at Chelmsford City Centre are a strong bunch and you should be proud of the staffing you have. Especially Nikki who again just makes my stay 100x better! We hope to see you all again soon on our next stay! - Evie
- 0510tammy (10/5): 5 star experience - Amazing stay, management team friendly and really approchable couldnt do enough for me. Sat and had a lovely meal in the restaurant and had a freindly natter at the bar too. Rooms were immaculate i would deffo recommend staying here. Ill be back new years!
- colins64 (10/5): Best Premier Inn we've stayed at. - Stayed here as a base to celebrate my wife's 86th birthday with a trip to the west end. We were made very welcome, and Chantelle that checked us in was a delight. My wife was made to feel very special, with complimentary lunch and a glass of wine and the rest of the team were polite and very caring. We had a lovely stay and would thoroughly recommend Chelmsford City centre Premier Inn. Thank you all for making my wife's birthday a lovely day.
- Trip15839944676 (10/5): Great Location - Great location, right next to the train station. Staff were absolutely wonderful. I very much enjoyed my stay there and would definitely go back.
- jakedK1992HF (2/5): You might not get food - After spending three out of four nights at this hotel and using the Premier Inn restaurant next door as usual, it was announced to me that the restaurant was only taking prepaid orders on the fourth night of my stay. This came with no warning from the receptionist (of which I only saw when I checked in and when asking about the pre-pay for meals after a wait) and no other way to easily get food on that night. They claimed that being short staffed was the issue, which I could have believed except they were in the same situation with numbers on the second night and only had a small delay with food from the kitchen instead of turning people away because they didn’t book a meal deal in advance and were refused to get them on the night. The hotel may have been fully booked but less than half of the tables were in use and much less than the second night of my stay.
Will not be choosing this hotel again as I like to know if I’ll be able to get food in the adjoining restaurants on the nights I have booked.
- Inspire30790351700 (2/5): Disappointing, needs a refurb. Will not be back soon. - Awful experience, the worst premier inn we have ever stayed at. Musty smelling room as soon as we opened the door.
When you turn on the heating/ac the radiator clinks and makes banging sounds every 2 minutes. This did not settle down. Ended up turning it off at 2am. Ended up freezing as couldn’t sleep with the heating on due to noise. Dirty bathroom and general room is very dated.
The restaurant was a let down as well. We tried calling multiple times to book times for the meals but never answered. We emailed but didn’t get a response. We arrived at hotel after the chessington Halloween event finished, only to be told by Reception they had limited spaces left for dinner as they only had one staff member working but as we had paid for Meal Deal it would be ok.
At the restaurant the waitress really wasn’t very happy to see us and tried to turn us away. I said we had booked a meal deal and she offered to refund. I said no we wanted to eat and then had to wait quite a while to be served. We were the last people to be let in and everyone else got turned away.
The food was awful, undercooked pizza, raw mushrooms and soggy base. Nothing like the old Monkey Puzzle Beefeater which used to be here.
Breakfast we asked for some eggs, 20 mins later still no eggs and then the waitress came over and apologised and said the chef kept overcooking them. We ended up leaving.
Definitely do not recommend this place, such a shame as could be great.
- CharlotteEmily03 (6/5): Ok for sleep but not worth the money - Booked for our friends 30th to go back to after an event, however this was also a special trip as it was our first night away since having children for the first time in 4 years.
We had a great sleep and the beds were so comfy! I want one of the materess at home.
Arrival was a little on the downside as we were not greeted with a friendly helpful face but instead a screen to self check in. This didnt work and we still had to go to the bar to check in on the end anyway.
Room was satisfactory, but for £150 we could have booked something far more luxurious. Bathroom had lots of limescale and the toilet had skids which was not pleasant to arrive to. No water or water glasses in the room and lighting was awful, some of our bulbs didn't work. So getting ready for a night out was difficult. As a couple we were only supplied with one towel too and no number to contact “reception” to get another.
Good nights sleep, but very disappointed with the service & cleanliness.
- robtZ6329HJ (8/5): No complaints - A typical Premier Inn Experience, check in is self service on the first floor. Good sized clean room and good at the 'The Social' was of good quality, appreciated the choice of bath or shower. Staff all very kind and polite and want to make your stay a good one.
- Dr_Waugh (8/5): Good value - A one night stay with work. Close to the train station and with a large carpark nearby this was a good overnight base before setting off early the next day.
The room was quiet but very warm. The normal Premier inn services were available.
The buffet breakfast was nice too, but only one coffee machine caused a bottle neck.
Totally fine for work or family’s seeking a budget option.
- deltaoneLondon (10/5): Hospitality at its best - We have stayed at many Premier Inns around the country, but Chesterfield Town centre is by far the best! The welcome from Kerry at check-in was great, a proper engaging conversation regarding the area, where best to eat etc. Our room was spotless, and very comfortable. Shower over bath with great water pressure. The restaurant and bar area are clean and modern. We had a great breakfast on both days, so much choice. The team are so friendly and kept the breakfast topped up and the tables clean. The location is perfect town centre with a safe 24hr multi-story car park over the road.
It was my birthday during our stay, and I can’t believe I was presented with a bottle of fizz and then to top it off a birthday card and a box of chocolates were left in our room from the cleaning team….thank you so much Kerry and all the team for making my day special.
This is an excellent run Premier Inn and would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Chesterfield. It was so refreshing to be around a happy team who obviously enjoy working in hospitality…thanks again all.
- katrinabegley84 (10/5): Excellent Premier Inn Chesterfield town centre - The location is perfect town centre and near m1 and trsin station
The rooms are spotless spacious and beds very comfortable . All our meals were very tasty and good portion size .
We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff nothing was too much trouble all looked very smart and anything we needed they were very obliging.
An excellent run premier Inn would highly recommend to anyone to stay they will not be disappointed.
- janicemV6413XP (10/5): Excellent experience - Had a great stay the staff were so friendly and helpful, would recommend it to everyone .The location is ideal for meeting up with friends. The cleanliness was spot on in the rooms the noise level what noise.
- 745lindseyc (6/5): Don’t have breakfast - Overnight stay was ok, of waking in the morning the shower didn’t work effectively, then the hairdryer stop working after 30sec. Breakfast don’t bother booking it’s very expensive for a very cold full breakfast. Left all of it
- ianhL7938WY (6/5): Average but ok - We stayed overnight. It was an ok visit. Room was fine. Sadly no hot water, either that eve or next morning as boiler broken,so had to leave without showering! Wrote and got £33 back! Better than nothing. Reception staff were lovely as were staff in resturant. We went for eve meal. Resturant had great atmosphere shame it was a limited menu! Next morning we had breakfast there too. I'm vegan & the vegan sausages & 'bacon' were best i've had!
- karen (10/5): - This hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Chesterfield near shops, the Market, restaurants and pubs.
All members of staff are friendly, helpful and very pleasant. The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
We very much enjoyed the varied breakfast buffet with excellent coffee ‘on tap’ and dined in the simple but delicious in house restaurant nearly every night. They have a decent Happy Hour in their small bar too.
We shall be returning to this hotel on our next visit to Chesterfield
- karenwW3685YE (10/5): All our needs met in this centrally located Chesterfield hotel - Comfortable clean hotel conveniently situated in the centre of Chesterfield. There is a good variety of choices for breakfast and the coffee, though from a machine, is excellent. We enjoyed the meals in the in house restaurant and there is a small bar with a very reasonable Happy Hour. We very much appreciated the friendly and helpful staff and will certainly be staying here when visiting Chesterfield in the future
- Sleep76 (2/5): Lovely room, but no room in restaurant - Lovely room, but turned up at restaurant at 7pm for dinner and was told I needed a reservation. I wasnt told this when I checked in, just that it opened at 5.30pm. The ‘Restaurant closed’ sign was then displayed from 7.15pm. Decided to get a glass of wine whilst I waited for a food delivery instead and was told there were no wine glasses.
- paulgX3679ZQ (10/5): All round a very nice place to stay with friendly staff. - Always a warm welcome rooms upto the usual high standard well kept
Bar Area basic as you would expect in a town centre hotel
the breakfast was as good as any i have had in any premier inn.
All round a very nice place to stay with friendly staff.
- knightliner (10/5): A very peaceful nights stay - We stayed in this hotel during our tour of the Peak district, it was very quiet and comfortable. They do not have their own parking but you can use the public parking at the end of the road in the centre of the town.
- CrazywithLife (2/5): Unfair room pricing and IT issues - Online price £66, tried to book, but online problems. Called national booking line they said they could only do £77. Went to hotel reception and showed the online issue. They said they can't do anything (computer says no). Told me to try again online using their wifi. Wifi did not work. Went back and they said sorry and now the price is £85. From £66 to £85 in 45 mins. I left found wifi and then booked for £77. Took me an hour to book the room. The irony is I stayed in the same room 2 weeks earlier for £56. They need to empower their staff and use common sense around online / inhouse prices. Good value at £56, rip off at £85.
- GaryM3426 (10/5): A twisted spire where you can see for miles and a good standard of hotel. - A great hotel not ruined by the contractor set. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Hotel ideally situated close to the town centre with good access to the M1 and A1.
- L3144NMjodih (10/5): Top tier services - Top tier service from the duo of Sharon’s hospitality is smashing, go above and beyond for all your hoteling needs, very welcoming and friendly environment.
- DrMichaelDavidSalt (10/5): Ideal base for Chessington World of Adventures - As a family looking to do Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park, this was the ideal place to stay. From hotel room to Chessington park entrance is less than 10 minutes’ walk. For rides such as Dragon’s Fury and Mandrill Mayhem, this hotel is more conveniently situated than even the park’s own hotel.
The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds and decent facilities. Perhaps a little tired, but perfectly serviceable for the money.
The highlight, however, is Chef Eddie in the adjoining restaurant. Despite the backdrop of a defunct Beefeater, Eddie brings a warmth and brightness to the place with customer service that would not be out of place in a 5* establishment. We particularly enjoyed hearing about his Japanese cuisine tips, and the small attentions to detail that delighted our daughter (so much so, she’s making a card for him). Thanks to his chef expertise, breakfast was beautifully cooked, too.
- E6270WFrachelc (10/5): 10 out 10 one of our best experienced & premier in we stayed at - 10/10 all the stuff & housekeeper are friendly& helpful, cheerful & much more
Day team is amazing & night team
We had Matt, Klaudia, Josh for the major of our stay in the evening.
Food is 10/10 morning & night so many different choice and kids eat free
Prices are perfect
As a family we where so relax and chill aswell as happy even staff took time out of there shift to speak to my partner little boy too.
Cleaning was 10/10 to
Definitely cant wait for our next stay which be October time
💯 recommended this premier inn
Much love from Rachel & Ashley & Oliver
- O4498OJianl (4/5): Awful Experience - The comfortable bed was the only redeeming feature of this below average experience. The ensuite was awful, looking tired understates the condition.
- L5233FNlaurenp (2/5): Filthy hotel - The bedrooms need decorating, there was paint chipping off the walls. The carpets were black and there was thick dust on the skirting boards. The bathroom in sure was not cleaned prior to our arrival there was hairs all around the bath and up the shower walls aswell on the toilet seats, there was mould all around the bath and the drains do not empty properly. The rooms are filthy worst premier inn I’ve stayed in and the WiFi is totally pointless.
- Jonerae (2/5): Not Premier- disappointed - Disappointed with my stay here. I use a lot of Premier inn’s and this is the worst for a while.
I don’t think it’s the staff, although there is very few, they try their hardest to please.
My room has an a/c unit, great in this hot weather - however it doesn’t work, and the control panel has been removed, and replaced with a blanking plate.
The WiFi is rubbish, and keeps cutting out. I upgraded to Premium and that was also poor.
The room smells musty, from the bathroom I think. Sheets feel damp and not aired.
I ate in the restaurant attached, but with what appeared to be 3 staff trying to cater for 20-30 people at dinner, there was a long wait. My total meal experience was 1.5hrs, but luckily I only had a damp warm room to return to.
Senior management should take action, or remove from its portfolio
- Tommy6971 (6/5): Disappointed with Hotel - Very disappointed in this Hotel, staff are great but run off their feet. Only 2 on at evening meals. Menu very limited. Bring back Beefeater. The staff have to carry hot meals down stairs which I find unbelievable. Breakfast kept running out of food and the poor young girl was up and down stairs by the minutes. We actually took our dishes over and put glasses etc on the bar to help these overworked young ladies. I applauded them and think they should be praised for what they do. Get a grip Premier Inn people will go elsewhere if this type of running a hotel carries on.
- Kellou1981 (4/5): Wish I’d read the reviews beforehand - We stayed recently at the PI Chessington. It was super handy for the theme park (which is only 5 mins walk left out of the hotel), the staff member on reception was welcoming and nice, and the breakfast was reasonable…. However the reviews suggesting the smell of damp and paper thin walls is 100% accurate. Our room smelt musty (despite us opening all windows to air the room) and you could hear the people literally in the rooms around you. I mean hear them chatting and the words they are saying. This wasn’t too bad earlier in the evening, but gone 11pm and the noise from around the other rooms was disruptive of our ability to do what we booked the hotel for…. Sleep! We didn’t even bother reporting it, because the room next to us was literally just talking (and not shouting or being overly loud) so there would not have been anything the hotel could do. It was only at the point that, gone midnight, that I checked the hotel reviews and realised that reporting people chatting in their own bedroom would be futile. So, if sleep isn’t your priority and/or you sleep heavy/wear ear plugs, the hotel is perfect for location to Chessington.
- cannon15 (4/5): Close to park - Location is very close to the theme park so perfect if you are going there. Hotel is in bad condition, dirty bathroom, tatty decor and in need a full renovation. Restaurant was very poor , 1 staff member who informed us she was hungover and could be heard arguing with someone else upstairs. Food come out fairly quick but wasn't great quality . Toilets on site dirty and decor tatty.
- joe123wells (6/5): Disappointed - Hotel is fine like usual but the beef eater is no longer there which is the main reason I stay in premier inns because I know the food is spot on but now it’s terrible, I don’t recommend going anywhere near the restaurant as the food is very limited and you could make better at home, they should bring back the beef eater
