Guest Reviews
- Malana (10/5): - This is what you always wish an independently owned motel was still like. Staying here made the road trip feel like the golden days long gone when you could feel the personal touch of pulling up to a motel at the end of a day driving and feel like you had arrived at a friend’s place. We were traveling with a well behaved cat and called ahead to make sure it was ok. Not only was it ok, but they happened to be fostering a litter of kittens and offered to let us cuddle them when we arrived!
I’d stay here again any time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cute place to stay at a fair price. Nothing fancy, just good folks who care.
- Carol (10/5): - We had a wonderful time & Joy & her husband were very helpful and friendly
- Sheryl (10/5): - Everything was great. If I made any suggestion on improvements, it would be to add a hair dryer in the bathroom.
Super clean. I will say this is a cool retro vibe place with a county rustic and and vintage feel. If you are the type that needs a corporate glam place, this isn't for you. If you are looking for homey, friendly folks that care a lot about your stay, and you love the outdoors, this is it! Owners operate this establishment. They also own more land behind the motel that is a fabulous scenic hike about! Loved it all! (except the lack of a hair dryer.)
- Will (10/5): - If you like a place with some soul & a personal touch, this is for you. It's a vintage building but it's been updated. Our room had a fine view of Sleeping Ute Mountain (I think some don't, not sure).
- BONNY (10/5): - The first presentation when I drove into the property is that it’s dated and I worried that
Would translate to poor maintenance. Not the car. The room was vintage, but clean, in good repair (clearly recently renovated) and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. For travelers with pets it’s a great place to stay.
- Ramona (10/5): - Oldish property, undergoing remodeling (according to owners). Clean and pleasant room, new A/C, very nice owners who fulfilled all our requests. The place has a lot of potential, but also needs tons of work. A good place to stay at a reasonable price - would recommend.
- Tyke (10/5): - Quiet, clean and affordable.
- Robin (10/5): - Joy and your husband were wonderful to work with and very responsive to any needs we had. They are currently renovating the property and making good progress. Clean, quiet, I would come back 😊
- Daniel (8/5): Bon rapport qualité prix - Accueil sympathique de la part des propriétaires du motel.
Chambre spacieuse, propre et confortable.
Bonne étape pour visiter Mesa Verde
- Ilene (10/5): - Air conditioning worked great. Very dog friendly. Clean room. Super host.
- Patrick (10/5): - Very comfortable beds. Very helpful staff. Clean, easy, good value and price. Would definitely stay again.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Very very friendly & helpful couple. Clean, quiet, comfortable., place was being remodeled & room was very nice. An excellent selection of pastries plus yogurt & fruits, orange juice, good coffee & creamers.
- colette (10/5): - Very nice!
- Vera (10/5): Clean comfortable & rustic - Clean, comfortable, tidy & rustic. Felt like I was stepping back to a simpler time. It is an older hotel with few updates but Joy & Ty made the stay! They were amazing friendly and ensured we had pleasant accommodations. I will stay here again.
- Michael (10/5): - Loving restoration by owners ongoing. Our rooms and walk to see the sunset in canyon in their property was perfect!
- Jerome (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Joy, the manager, was pleasant and accommodating.
- Lois (10/5): Great stay - Great stay due to owners hospitality. Joy works hard to cater to her guests.
- Garrett (10/5): - Staff was amazing and very welcoming.
- jody (10/5): - Great place to stay while doing fossil hunting at the local private quarries. Amazing area!
- CHET (10/5): Happy to stay - Great place.
- Monica (10/5): Budget Stay Here! - The outside of this Motel looks a little run down. But it’s old. It’s been here a long time! It’s family owned and operated. Very friendly & fast check in. My room was big and super clean. The bed was super comfy and the water pressure in the shower great! Nice fluffy towels, a mini fridge, microwave, sitting area, dresser, closet, and I like having the sink outside of shower area. It was quiet and by fast food, restaurants, gas stations, & Safeway. Only 14min drive to Mesa Verde NP!!
- Henry (10/5): Best deal in town - I use Hotels dot com a lot to book rooms. I read the reviews, look at pictures, make a decision. The Sleeping Ute Mountain Motel in Cortez was exactly what I expected after doing such a review through the app. It’s not a fancy hotel, but it’s clean. We were traveling with two kids to visit the National Park. We needed a cheap place to stay for the night. This room had everything we needed and at a good price. I’m not sure what year this property was built, but it’s built solid so there’s no road noise or noise from adjoining rooms. The air conditioner was ice cold and the shower was nice and hot. There’s quite a few hotels in Cortez, but this motel had the best price and I was able to get a good nights sleep and visit the National Park early the following day. And to the owners, thanks for the hospitality.
- Stephen (10/5): - Room was spacious and clean and quiet. Conveniently located. Not a cookie cutter corporate motel. The change was nice. Owner personally took care of me and was friendly and professional. I loved my stay there. I’d definitely stay there again.
- Jada (8/5): Great place, and getting better. - It’s old, but the owners are remodeling. Very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable.
- harry (10/5): Great place to stay - This is an older motel that has been brought up to date by young couple doing a fantastic job in running their motel. Bikers are welcome and you can park right outside of your room. I highly recommend this motel
- Herbert (6/5): So so - In need of renovation. Serene setting out back.
- Tom (10/5): - Super friendly owners, very cozy and quiet place to spend the night. Excellent beds and very clean.
- Warren J. (8/5): - Nice staff, room was very clean and comfortable. Overall the facility was obviously being updated.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ute Mtn Motel - The motel is aged. I would imagine that in the winter it's going to be cold. Daylight could be seen coming in around the doors. All the fixtures, furnitures and bedding showing signs of wear. Most of the electrical outlets could not keepin what we plugged in, this was annoying. We opted for this motel because of having higher ratings of others we spent nights in. The motel was clean though which we liked. It was quiet throughout the nights. Maybe only a handful of people. I would definitely choose a different motel in the future. If you like older clean rooms this would be good.
Oh yeah the name had been changed to Sleeping Ute Mountain Motel.
- Ron (10/5): Ute mtn motel - Clean, just old. New owners are trying to update. Owners are awesome people.
- Erin (8/5): - My husband and I stayed here for one night on our Utah/ Colorado vacation. This hotel was a little dated and didn't look like much from the outside, but inside it was nice and clean!! The owner of the establishment is jovial and welcoming. She goes above and beyond for her guests. She even let me borrow her personal hairdryer the night we stayed. The scenery in the back of the hotel is beautiful!! I can't wait to see updated pictures of the remodeling job that they are currently doing!! :)
If you need a comfy place to rest your head, a warm shower to rinse off the dirt from your hike, and don't mind staying in a "mom and pop" operation, then you will really enjoy this hotel as I did :)
- colette (10/5): - It was quiet. The people are friendly.
- Mary (8/5): - The property was fine. It was just rather old and worn. The couple who own it are fixing it up and seem to really want to make it better. My room was clean, with new sheets and bedspread. There is a large field behind it that you can let a dog run. Not sure if it is fenced. I would stay here again.
- Malin (10/5): - The lady at the reception is so kind and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The backyard of the motel is a huge terrain where you can hike and have a great view of Sleeping Ute Mountain. Thanks!
- Linda (8/5): Soft towels - Comfortable and quiet. Just what we like when traveling. Great place to base for day trip to Mesa Verde National Park. Nothing fancy but comfortable and the towels were so soft. Recommend.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old & Very Tired with very loosely secured Door - The hotel manager is wonderful. Very caring and made every effort to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Bed was comfortable and clean with new sheets and bed spreads. Although she stated several future plans to upgrade this historic retro properties windows, painting interior room walls, new carpet, and an upgrade to the retro road sign; there’s a ton of other work that also needs to occur before it could ever be considered a “nice” motel by the average person. It appears they rent out rooms by the month to people that might otherwise be homeless, or are in some type of financial distress. The motel badly needs all exterior surfaces painted, new more secure motel room doors that actually have a weather door seal, new paint is needed on all interior doors, trim, ceilings and walls. Light fixtures need upgrading, all the well used furniture needs to be upgraded and with unworn surfaces. I chose this motel because of the high rating, but realized when I pulled in that the motel exterior pictures on Hotel.com were probably from 30 to 40 years ago. As well, I might have been duped by fictitious over the top complimentary reviews with a 10 out 10 rating. Really? A 10 out of 10 rating?
- Ryan (2/5): - Didn’t even stay pictures did not match at all and there was no one to check me in the office was closed.
- Eh (10/5): - It’s safe and quiet
- kenneth (10/5): - Staff was friendly and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
- colette (10/5): - Joy is amazing and so helpful!
- Bruce (10/5): - they are doing some renovations, not at all intrusive - new appliances. Very nice staff and conveniently located. Thank you. We would certainly stay here again.
- Loriann (8/5): - It’s very clean and quiet. The hot water is HOT and the water pressure rocked. I would definitely stay here again.
- Deborah (8/5): - Young couple just starting out they are in the process of remodeling the rooms.
- Maria Cristina (10/5): - Very clean beddings, towels and comfortable bed. Quiet surroundings.
- TOM (10/5): - Staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating
- Daniel (8/5): - Old school hotel but staff very nice. Bed was very firm ☹️. Overall great for the price
- Rebecca (8/5): - Easy check-in. Owner very accommodating, always attentive and available. Overnight stay met my needs: Not fancy, dated rooms being updated. Safe, clean, comfortable, and quiet stay, with plenty of space for my dog's needs. Would stay here again.
- Brian (10/5): - Lots of character and great staff. Would book again.
- Meredith (8/5): - It was adequate for our stay. It needed to be updated a little and the fact that there was no chain for the door made us a little uneasy, but it ended up being an ok stay.
- Renee (10/5): - quiet and staff was friendly.
- Elaine (10/5): - The hotel is old school, but being renovated. The owners are wonderful!!
- Scot (10/5): - Wasn’t glamorous, but very clean, good location on the main strip, and the owners were fantastic! Beautiful sunset from the property (owned by the motel) in back. Very close to great restaurants and the owner is a local so can make good recommendations. What motor hotels used to be … Do recommend!
- Karen (6/5): - The owners were friendly and helpful. The hotel need renovations, but room was clean, and beds comfortable.
- Nora (10/5): Loved this plae? - Place was obviously older, but immaculate !! Lovely owners. Their puppy Mouse was so stinking cute!
- Jerome (6/5): - Very outdated but clean and quiet.
Ok for a lower budget and for an overnight stop.
- Harrison (10/5): - Nice quiet place, I rest well thank you
