Guest Reviews
- Krista (10/5): - We loved the self check in. So nice to not be bothering anyone when we came in the door. The room is spacious, clean and easy to get to which is another great plus.
- Barton (10/5): - Wonderful old building that has had many previous uses, and now rents out guest rooms at a very affordable rate. Well maintained, and the owner lives on-site and is extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend as a great alternative to more expensive chain hotel or resort rooms.
- Tamlyn (8/5): - Very convenient and clean.
- Lynne (10/5): - A charming place to stay! Very clean and comfortable. A quiet neighborhood, but close to things to do in Saranac Lake. Very friendly and helpful staff. John went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable.
We would definitely stay here again!
- Stephen (6/5): - If you want a reasonable room in a nice very old house, with zero service and nothing within walking distance, this is your place! Long after I had booked, the hotel informed me that I would receive a message from them at noon on the day of arrival, giving me my room number, as there were NO reception staff. When I got there at 4 pm, no message! Luckily, another guest had gone through this rigamarole and had finally unearthed a telephone to call. I rang the number and, with many apologies, I was given my room number! After I took my shoes off - not allowed inside - I got into the room. No dining facilities nor breakfast. But a common area for cooking, which I did not need. Too far out of time to walk to anywhere to eat. But the room is OK, clean and with all conveniences.
- Teresa (10/5): - John was a fabulous host!
Our room was comfortable and clean, parking easy, and easy to find. Has everything one would need
- Marion D (8/5): - Clean room, easy check in. Basic room but access to fully equipped kitchen. More suitable for younger people doing sporting activities than a senior couple touring. Quirky. No issues at all.
- PING (8/5): - Self service is oaky
- PING (8/5): - Self service is okay.
- Ashok (10/5): - Amazing property with sparkling clean rooms
- Scott (10/5): - Very welcoming! Perfect.
- Raymond (10/5): - Very nice stay, clean and inviting…The shared bathrooms were very clean and convenient- no issues. Certainly recommend - especially for the price!
- TAMMY (8/5): - Very easy checkin.
- James (8/5): - The setting was beautiful. Room was comfortable but a bit hot. We did figure out how to improve ventilation though.
- Adam (10/5): Love it! - Absolutely amazing value for the price! We booked this pretty last minute for a concert in town we were going to and we loved it! Super comfortable and cozy, walking distance to down town, clean, quiet. We loved it so much we booked another stay for the end of October! This will definitely be our go to place to stay anytime we are in the Sarnac Lake area!
- Josjo (10/5): - Really nice and affordable, i love this place!
- Kenneth (8/5): - Loved the charming history.
- Thomas (8/5): - Very nice place and a good value for the money. Would definitely stay there again. Two improvements to suggest. 1) In the common shower area, build out small vestibules in front of the shower stalls, even with the toilet stalls, so that there is a private place to disrobe before showering. 2) The misting, water-saving shower heads actually cool the water coming out of the head, and so the user turns up the hot water, and no energy is saved. The mist is also very uncomfortable. Suggest updating the shower heads to more modern water-saving models that do not turn the flow into a mist.
- Lydia (10/5): - Historic building, great history. Not cookie cutter lodging.
- John (10/5): - Loved it!
- DEBORAH (10/5): - We loved most everything about this place. From the historical building, to our room (The Baker Mountain Room), to the added touch of Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts K-cups & a Keurig in the front room 24/7. John, the caretaker, is amazing. He helped us out when our car got stuck and he is a great host. We visit a relative in Saranac twice a year and we definitely plan to stay there again.
- Ruth (8/5): - Easy stay. Large room, easily accessible, good instructions!
The one item is the we couldn’t open the window (AC on it) so the room got stuffy. Otherwise, great place and would come again!
- Alan (10/5): - Great Property!!!
- Christine (10/5): A lovely break! - My 12 year old son and I stayed here as part of a trip to Lake Placid. So quiet and peaceful, while being so convenient to restaurants and shopping in Saranac Lake.
Very clean, and the caretaker could not have been nicer.
Would absolutely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Conveniently located for walking or driving to main attractions. Host was friendly and accommodating. Aged but Comfortable accommodation with lots of rustic spaces. Good value.
- kevin (10/5): - A unique place. rebuilt older mansion very nicely done. loved the experience and the caretaker was quite a nice guy. I was travelling on my own and it was so nice to stay in a place that is not just a cookie cutter chain hotel.
- Bonnie (8/5): - In its previous life it was a tuberculosis sanitorium. Rooms are named for the mountains in the ADK. There is a property manager, John, on site, but check in is dependent on receiving an email with information about your room #, etc. I found the confusion of guests when they first arrive is calmed by guests who have already gone thru the process and help them understand how it works. Outdoor shoes are to be left in the main porch, and only indoor shoes are to be worn inside. Do not lose your key or lock yourself out of your room; there may be no one on site to help you. No one enters your room to empty trash or make beds or change out towels during your visit. The parking lot is rough, so it's best to unload your car at the door and then park. I opted to pay at the facility, however there isn't a way to pay there. They should remove that option on Expedia, because I am still trying to find a way to pay for my stay after I have departed. They have yard games and a pinball machine in the basement. They are located very close to the Adirondack Rail Trail, so it was a great place for us to be.
- Mihail (4/5): - Quaint? Yes. History? Yes. Enthusiastic tourists? Yes. Wi-fi? Yes
More affordable than other choices? Yes
Public restrooms, no tv cable box in every rooms, not enough outlets (none around the bed for a lamp in 317). Old carpets. Basement clean but unattractive.
- Heather (10/5): - Owner was very welcoming. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Met some awesome people.
- Erika (10/5): - Very nice place, clean and quiet.
- Joseph (8/5): - Comfortable and clean. Fully stocked communal kitchen. Great value!
- David (8/5): - Rooms and hotel very clean .
Very convenient location.
Bathrooms very clean .
Parking on premises
Safe neighbor.
Very accommodating!
Overall good stay. Reasonably priced !
Thank you to the owner !
- Brian (10/5): Unique and very well maintained - Room had fridge, tv and very comfortable bed. Bathrooms were very clean.Caretaker on site if you need him.Free coffee was nice. Such a beautiful facility and qalking distance from town and major hike. Loved it, cant wait to return.
- Christine (10/5): - The Prescott House is a charming old building. John, the host and manager was very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were very quiet. I would visit again
- Martin (4/5): - The manager ( John ). Was very rude when questioned about getting clean towels and overall lack of housekeeping. Furnished with Vintage furniture in poor repair, the desk litterely collapsed while sitting at it. TV didn’t work, Manager claimed that was bc our room doesn’t have cable, despite there being a cable attached . Undoubtedly one of the worst places we have ever stayed
- Bradley (8/5): - We spent one night in Saranac Lake, where hotels run from posh resorts, to a little scary looking. This place is fine - nice room and great rec room downstairs. Our caretaker was friendly and helpful. The only downside was we visited during a heat wave and there was no AC in our room, only a fan. I recommend this place for a short stay.
- Donald (6/5): - It was convenient for our purposes. The caretaker was great.
- Monica (10/5): - Our stay at Prescott House was a delight. The house is unique, cozy, and welcoming! The onsite manager was friendly and available, and we had everything we needed. The large bathrooms are shared, but the doors can be locked for quick showers, and there are also a few private half-baths (and one private shower) scattered throughout the building. Our room was a little bit musty and had not been updated like some of the other rooms, but it was clean and very affordable and met all our needs. We appreciated the coffee station and porches, the window a/c unit for the hot nights, the opportunity to meet other guests, and the fascinating history of the house. I would be glad to return. Thank you!
- Ann Marie (10/5): - It was very welcoming and clean. Pretty close to town & restaurants. Definitely would stay again.
- Thomas (10/5): - Great place to stay. I highly recommend. The staff are great and courteous.
- Caitlin (10/5): - Had a very unique vibe, felt like staying in someone's cozy home. Loved the self check-in/check-out process, Very quiet as well. Great stay!
- Matt (8/5): - Nice, historic ADK cure cottage. Large porches and privacy. Within walking distance of downtown.
- Kevin (10/5): - Totally what I expected. The property has a great story. Nothing fancy but I did not expect it to be and I did not want it to be. Super clean. Friendly staff. Low price. Felt very comfortable and secure. Will definitely go again and again.
- Linda (8/5): - John is very personable.
It would be helpful to have internet and passwords in the rooms (added to the guests notes sheet?), and listed in the front “coffee” room. Otherwise, quiet and comfortable.
It may be challenging, though, to reach someone if there is a problem.
- Meredith (10/5): - Place was perfect for weekend visiting son at college. Wish we had more time to stay & explore. John was a great host. Will stay again!
- Valerie (8/5): - Very nice historic inn, very clean, friendly hostess. Beds uncomfortable however.
- Stacie (10/5): - Great alternative to a hotel. Sharing a bathroom was fine-never an issue. Clean and comfortable, affordable setting with interesting history. Not posh or luxury and would strongly recommend!!
- Paulette (6/5): Bathroom quaint - reminder of college days - Arrived to the Prescott House between 3 and 4 pm; booking stated to show ID and alert staff to arrival. Discovered notes left; remove shoes at door!! Not to wear shoes inside....spoke with other 'renters' - they never received emails or information either. Rooms were open with keys in doors, just take the key out and lock the door. We did find and speak with a staff member on site, no information given except that I should have received an email fully disclosing everything. Never received the email; explained that to staff - he said it was probably sent after I checked my email. (Checked again after talking with him, still no email) received an additional bill on my credit card for $13. - Not quite sure what that was for! I thought parking was free, and we didn't drink any of the coffee in the front room. Cameras every where on site, in hallways, entry way, and watching our shoes - so I knew our foot wear was safe! Just an odd experience.
- Chris (10/5): - Was an amazing time. The only thing is the bed was very uncomfortable
- Saikumar (10/5): Safe, Cozy, and Snow-Ready – Highly Recommended! - Had a wonderful stay! The host was great—friendly, responsive, and ensured everything was perfect. The place was clean, cozy, and well-maintained. It also handled heavy snow well, making it a safe and comfortable stay even in harsh weather. Would definitely recommend and stay again!
- Susan (10/5): - The Prescott is a gem! Incredibly nice friendly host!!! Cozy & comfortable & full of character. I highly recommend this wonderful place!
