Guest Reviews
- Melissa (10/5): - Was clean and convenient check in
- Ruth (6/5): - The bathroom was extremely small. Could barely close the door past the toilet.
- Lynn (6/5): - Parking was fine. TV was difficult to navigate
No staff onsite for help. Check in all digital
No signage in front of motel
Not worth the price. Who rates this motel so high. Deserved under 7. Showed 9.
- Mark and Jane (10/5): - Interesting property. It is a self check in. Ice available in office. It’s an old school outside entrance, park at your door motel. Rooms are freshened up very nicely. Keurig coffee and a big Roku TV. Comfortable bed.
Just down the street from a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut. No breakfast, but a solid, fresh, clean place to sleep.
- Christine (8/5): - We booked online and had no option to let them know we had the dog with us. This should be a box to check since the site says it is dog friendly.
While loading in the morning we put it in the bathroom and somehow he broke the door handle. This was literally the cheapest door knob I've ever seen and the face of it came off the body. We are being charged $100 for a door knob that costs $20 at most and takes 2 screws to remove and replace it. So ridiculous.
- Tammy (10/5): - The parking lot was very safe. You get to pull right up to your room door. The room was clean. Never seen any staff. You sign in and out with a touch screen. Wi Fi seemed to work just fine.
- Barbara (8/5): - Cleanliness and Price
- Bethany (10/5): - Excellent stay!
- Alice (8/5): - The property was difficult to find because the major roadside signage was an empty frame. Thanks to Waze, we found it anyway.
- Kristi (8/5): - Clean rooms, property you check in yourself and also just leave your keys in the room when leaving. Pet friendly. You also can’t check in early as the office door doesn’t open until 3 pm.
- Bonita (8/5): - It was an okay room, clean and neat. Check in was unusual, as we got our room key from a kiosk. There was no coffee. It was a good place for a one nighter.
- Michael (10/5): - Clean, amazingly easy self checkin, an older mom & pop motel that has been updated recently. Only negatives are the lack of an ice machine and relatively dim lights.
- Janelle (10/5): - Clean room, dog friendly, assigned parking outside your door. Large TV with maintained rooms, outdoor chairs for relaxing. Loved the check in/check out process! Felt safe. Great value for U.P. travelers!
- James (10/5): - This motel was very clean. The check in was different as there was no person to talk to but the check in information is provided to the guest in a text. Check in process was easy. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Price was fair. I would recommend.
- Abigail (10/5): - It was a nice room it was small and it’s totally contactless but it was well taken care of there was free WiFi and they have a smart tv so you can log into your streaming services which I appreciated. It was perfect for what we needed.
- Amanda (10/5): - Easy self check-in, room was very clean. Overall impressed.
- PATTY (10/5): - No nonsense motel, self check in, park at your door, very hot water. :) Convenient location. Would stay here again.
- Maija (10/5): - It was comfortable and clean and liked to be able to sit outside and relax.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Automated check-in/check-out was easy. Room was clean and well appointed. Perfect jump off spot for Tahquamenon Falls!
There is a new, cool, coffee shop in town, right on the way to the park!
Don’t stop at the McDonalds after a home game…
- Heather (10/5): - AC Super Cold. Husband tried to torn me into an ice cube. Internet was fine, wasn't here much to use it.
- cynthia (10/5): Nice stay up north - Everything was great! Easy check in and the room was nice and clean. Had everything that we needed including microwave refrigerator table with chairs coffee and I slept very good on the bed.

- Tamara (8/5): - Nice clean rooms.
- Kelly (10/5): - Electronic check in was great and so modern! The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfy. The pillows were a bit hard but everything else was perfect.
- James (10/5): - Room was very clean with great hot shower not fall from a lot of attractions
- Melissa (10/5): - The room was clean and quiet. Our only complaint was the lighting was a little dim.
- Kurt (4/5): - It was a quite place to stay, rooms are clean, but cheap, only a last choice to stay in area
- Linda (10/5): - Self check in and checkout was easy. Smart TV, good size frig, comfortable beds, pre-prepared ice bucket in main office area
- Timothy (10/5): - Room was clean and well designed. Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. Very nice motel. Would definitely stay here again when in the area.
- Doug (10/5): - The Trail Inn has been a pleasant stay! The staff are friendly & very helpful. My room was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable, equipped with a smart TV and common conveniences of most nicer hotel's. The shower and water pressure is really nice also! Definitely recommend staying here anytime in the area of U.P. Michigan
- Patricia (10/5): - My husband said it needs a lounge chair other that perfect
- Edwin (10/5): Easy check-in, clean room. - Check in was easy, and the room was clean and comfortable. The renovation of this old motel was done very well. I would stay here again.
- Chris (10/5): - Wonderful motel! Quiet, clean, and comfy beds!
- Joyce (6/5): - I didn't like that there was not an actual person to welcome their clients it was uncomfortable
- Brian (10/5): - Nice updates to this classic motor lodge. Veey clean and perfect for a weekend getaway, color tour and seeing the local sites like Tahquamenon Falls
- Robert (10/5): - Pleasant room and convenient.
- Allison (10/5): - A cute older motel that has done some updating. Everything was super clean. Beds were comfortable. Check in was a new experience for me but really simple and quick. As a solo traveller, I always worry about trying smaller mom and pop hotels but it was a joy to stay here.
- Robert (10/5): - Nice property for overnight stay in UP while on sightseeing trip. Loved the quaint vibe and the nice location. Would stay again.
- Rick (10/5): - Nice & clean
- paul (8/5): Short stay - Fantastically clean, good service! We only popped in for a quick overnight but staff easily adjusted check in for our late arrival, and it was one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed!
- Oliver (10/5): - We enjoyed staying at the Inn. It was convenient after visiting Tahquenamon Falls and on our route to Door County. The room was clean and the shower was great.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Easy check in. Information sent hours before needed explaining the check in process. Rooms were nice.
- JAMES (10/5): - Clean
- Corey (10/5): - Very clean.
- Susan (8/5): - Nice hotel with doors on outside
- Holly (10/5): - Very clean, very nice inn. Definitely has become our new place!!! Staff is great!
- Brandy (8/5): - Everything was perfect. Wish there was a breakfast option though.
- Beverly (4/5): - Petty after charges added to my bill. Like dirty washcloth charge etc.
- Mike (10/5): - Very nice room and clean. Maybe some a cushion pad under the carpet and a gas fireplace. It was very quiet and easy check in process.
- Sheryl (10/5): - Everything was great will stay again. Recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent roadside motel. - This is the epitome of an old time motel. Check in was completely automated. Cleaning staff was very nice! Rooms were older but clean. Everything worked well.
The cons?
Shower is pretty slippery & the toilet is VERY low to the ground. Bed was also very stiff ( while not ideal it sure beats a saggy mattress)
Overall we would recommend if you just need a place to stay for the night while you are in the U.P.
- Jill (8/5): - Taking into consideration options, this Inn is very clean and convenient. Without having a manned front desk the process was very easy, communication was very good, just not what we are used to.
- Michael (10/5): - Great location and value for our visit to Newberry and Tahquamanon Falls. Check in is automated so no real front desk to evaluate but was very smooth check in.
- Amy (10/5): - Location was right on the road to our intended location. Easy access. Super clean. First time we have ever used electronic check in and it was user user friendly for an ol’ gal. Easy simple instructions. Loved getting the email notification to warn me ahead of time of this new process . Would recommend this as a stopping spot in the middle of several fun things to do in the U.P.
- Paul (10/5): - Nice place
- Matt (10/5): Pleasant stay near Newberry, MI - New to remote check in but touchscreen quickly connected us with someone who sounded local that helped us obtain our room keys from the automated 'key safe'.
Room was large, clean and comfortable. Park right outside your door.
Needed good wifi to run a board meeting and had no issues.
- Jeanne (10/5): - Clean, neat way to check-in, any issues easily resolved. Would recommend updating beds.
- Richard (10/5): - This was just a overnight stop on our trip.
- Tammara (10/5): All the comforts of home! - Our weekend trip was very memorable. And our room did not disappoint. Very clean and comfortable. Being close to M28 did concern me for a minute, but soon as I shut the door I no longer heard anything. Not even the neighbors coming and going. And can I brag about that rain shower! After a day of dusty trail riding. That rain shower was absolutely amazing!! I felt like a brand new person. Thank you Trails Inn.
- Liana (10/5): - Good pet friendly stay. Clean. Comfortable. Convenient check in and check out. Good location. Really nice staff.
- Robert (8/5): - Enjoyed the 2-night stay. Everything was great. The only area where staff fell short was forgetting to stock fresh towels for the second night, so we used our towel from the first night which was hanging behind the door. No real complaints though.
- Julianna (10/5): - The Trail Inn was the perfect place to stay for our trip. The rooms were clean and the check in process was easy. We would stay here again!
- Amanda (10/5): - Easy convenient check in
- Tracy (8/5): Pretty good! - Check in was super easy. Room was clean and very functional. Beds were a bit hard, but was a good place to stay.
- MANUELA (8/5): - Motel datato ma ben tenuto. Unica pecca il checkin virtuale: molto scomodo, soprattutto se non si ha un telefono americano
- John (8/5): Nice place - Was nice simple clean quiet
- Sarah (10/5): - Very clean. Had an issue when we first arrived but went in and talk to receptionist on the screen and they helped us immediately.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay! - After a subpar night in St Ignace, we were very pleasantly surprised by The Trail Inn! Updated, clean, modern with a rustic flare! We loved the check in! Our room was quiet and comfortable. 100% recommend and will stay here again when traveling in the area!
- Rich (10/5): - Nice people and views
- Margaret (10/5): Absolutely recommend! - Absolutely adorable!!! So so cozy and sweet!! Great place to stay! This was stop number 2 of 4 while on our honeymoon. The room was so
Clean and you could tell they went above and beyond with their work! Very easy check in and close to Tahquamenon Falls!! Cute coffee place and restaraunts near by also!
- Sommer (10/5): - The customer service was great! I could text questions to whoever was working that day. You do have to pay attention to your confirmation texts as it has check in codes and things needed for getting your key. I think its a great system.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very old, smelly and no updates. - The toilet was so low that I couldn't use it. The bathroom floor tile was ancient. There was mold in the shower. The room had a stale smelling odor; however, the lobby odor of smoke made my asthma, cough flare up. Then only refunded one night, not two. Took forever to get someone to answer from their REMOTE location. Do NOT recommend it.
- James (10/5): - .
- Wendy (10/5): - Easy check in, clean
- Diane (8/5): - Very nice facilities, but no onsite staff. Check was unique and would have been real sweet except the lock box with our key would not open. Had to wait close to 45 min. to hr. for someone to arrive and retrieve our key.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Room door left open by housekeeping - It was most convenient to everything we wanted to do in the U.P. Arrived on a Monday and had housekeeping service Tuesday and Wednesday mornings after we left for the day. It was quite alarming to return late Wednesday evening to find our door unlocked and slightly ajar. There were 2 PCs that could have been easily swiped from the room. Thursday we opted to forego housekeeping and Friday morning we checked out. I can't say i wouldn't stay here again because everything else was great and housekeeping did apologize when we let them know and owned that it was them. I still left a housekeeping tip for the 2 days of service knowing they would also be cleaning up on the 4th morning after we left.
- Ken (8/5): Strange access - The check in procedure was not good. The reservation had been made a few hours earlier and upon arriving no one was in the office and the key was in a kiosk. Supposedly a code was to be given to access the kiosk. Ended up finding someone on the property to access the kiosk. If they had not been there I wouldn't have been able to get in. A strange way to access this place.
- Laura (10/5): - The pick up for the key was confusing for me personally, but ive never had to do that, but the text message was very detailed in explaining what to do.
- Jason (6/5): - Typical UP motel. Clean. My only complaint is the old wood floors. You can feel and hear the neighbors literally just walking around. Loved they had smart TVs so we could watch our Netflix.
- Janet (10/5): - Room was clean. Checkin was easy, I was given a code prior to my arrival to get my key. Staff was quick to respond by text when I had a question. It was nice quiet motel and I felt completely safe as a solo traveler. They do need a sign out front but I would definately stay here again.
- Jan (10/5): - I was a little worried about the check in process but everything went smoothly. We would stay again!
- Michelle (8/5): - The price was excellent and the property was centrally located to everything I came to the UP to see. The towels were terrible, but the bed was fine. I wish there were a small table with a chair or two instead of the desk. But for the price, I can't complain.
- Carrie (10/5): - Very nice, clean place to stay. Very easy check in and check out. Very easy to get ahold of staff through text messages. Prompt responses.
- Marin (10/5): - My friends and I were really impressed with everything about the motel! Check in was easy, the room was very clean and stocked, and the location worked well for what we had planned! Would recommend!!
- Peter (10/5): - The rooms were nice and comfortable. Clean and the owner polite and helpful.
- Korina (10/5): - Every detail attended to! Thoughtfully designed space and everything is updated. Very nice and 100% clean. We felt very comfortable here, slept great, and this place beat out the chain hotels, by a long shot. Highly recommend!
- Carrie (4/5): - No actual person to talk to before 3PM check in time. I didn't have a working phone and the lobby was locked. The public restroom was also "out of order" and we were unable to use after driving a long distance. VERY inconvenient.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Convenient, clean rooms, super cute.
- Padraic (10/5): - Great little property. Parking spots in front of rooms and numbered! Easy check in inside the lobby. Do wish we could have gotten into the lobbying the morning! But great stay and would go again!
- Jim (4/5): - No humans around, just a kiosk.
- Walter R. Ramage (10/5): - What a great little surprise in the U.P. motels are generally a crap shoot, but this place is great. Absolutely nothing to rate less than excellent.
- William (8/5): Nice if just driving through. - Rooms are clean and comfortable. Location not very close to many tourist attractions
- Yvonne (10/5): - Very nice place.
- Beverly (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful.
..
- Jeremy (10/5): - Cool place, my son and I enjoyed our stay. Small, simple, within an hours drive of many attractions.
- Edward (8/5): - Nice for a mom and pop place. Check-in is automated never saw a staff person during stay.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Love the easy check-in with the keys in the boxes. That works so well. The rooms are cozy and clean. I would come back here.
- Linda C (8/5): - This is an older motel, but has been kept up well. Check-in was totally automated, but quick & easy. Management texted us check-in instructions that were very easy to follow. Rooms are small & needed a luggage rack for suitcase. No breakfast offered.
- Tina (4/5): - Though there are no smoking signs in the rooms, people clearly smoke here. Folks were when we arrived. Even if they do it outside, the smell lingers in the rooms. The sink is hard to turn on without going full blast and making everything wet.
- Jessica (10/5): - This was very nice and price was great!!
