Guest Reviews
- August (6/5): - I visited in mid-August, during one of the warmest heat waves of 2025. As such, I was SIGNIFICANTLY affected by the lack of air conditioning (of which the college had made me aware on multiple occasions). While the rooms do have ceiling fans, the one in my room was not balanced properly, as it made a constantly irritating and disruptive noise (regardless of the speed setting). However, when set to the highest speed, the noise made it seem like the whole unit would come loose from its housing and decapitate me. As such, I had to settle for the second-highest speed, the noise of which still prevented me from getting even one good night's sleep during my stay.
Otherwise, my stay was perfect! Many of the buildings (including the residences) on campus are older and really beautiful. Part of the residence was open weekdays during the summer, allowing guests to tour the beautiful chapel upstairs.
Location is not bad, about a 20-minute walk west of downtown. Some people might find this a bit inconvenient but, since I walk everywhere, it didn't bother me at all.
Long story short, the residence is a great option, provided the weather cooperates, you enjoy walking, and you have a working fan. ;)
- Niki (8/5): - About 15 minutes walking distance from the subway station, this is a very beautiful, antique building to stay in.
As noted in the description there is no air condition so it can be quite humid during the summer, otherwise all is good.
Laundry is also available in the basement, note that payment needs to be made by card (not cash), and you will need to bring your own detergent.
Toilet and shower are shared and you will need to bring your own towels and soap.
- Roger (10/5): - Knox Residence University of Toronto offered me an affordable, unique accommodation in a very convenient location. The ambience and atmosphere of the residence is excellent, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I would be happy to recommend Knox, and hope to be able to stay again in the future.
- Petrina (10/5): Budget friendly - I stayed here off and on throughout summer.Basic Simple place. Older historic building. Microwave n fridge in common area. Laundry. The only thing to keep in mind not much food access around. I walked everywhere u can take ttc. Security good there i felt really safe. Will be booking again next year.
- Kamsani (10/5): - Very nice
- Lu (8/5): - It was great except the room was hot with no air conditioning. You can't sleep well at night when it's 26 degrees or more but very clean and friendly staff.
- Andrej (8/5): - It's a student dorm so don't expect luxury BUT the bed was comfortable, the building and the area are charming and the staff were friendly. Would stay again.
- Scott (10/5): - Great place to stay at a decent price. I wouldn’t recommend it during a heat wave, but it’s great if you enjoy historical buildings and architecture.
- Em (10/5): - I loved all of it, how secure and quiet it was, the staff were amazing, the property itself was beautiful, and everything was within walking distance. The only things I didn't like was that there was no AC as it is an older building (i was able to borrow a fan though), no elevator for those staying on a higher floor and the women washroom was on the second floor (i was on the first)
all in all though I had a fabulous stay and would stay again!
- Petrina (10/5): Budget friendly simple place - Good budget friendly place to stay. Staff great. Bring your own towels toiletries. I be back here a few times for sure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay for 5 nights in the summer. It's not far from Queen's Park Subway station. The 506 Streetcar is close too.
- Shuping (8/5): - I stayed at Knox Residence for three nights. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location is excellent, about 5 minutes walk to metro 1 and 10 minutes walk to metro 2. I enjoyed the stunning architecture and the small beautiful darden as well. The only thing I don’t like is there is no air conditioner in the room. I stayed there during heatwave, it was very hot.
- Charlotte (10/5): - I loved the old stone architecture, the wood interior and the lovely courtyard. Very walkable to many places in TO. Beautiful surrounding grounds.
- Petrina (8/5): Good budget friendly place - The staff was really good. The cleaning staff did there best to keep things clean. People staying there put lots paper towel in toilet which made it hard for staff to keep things clean. I had no issues other then it doesnt say in listing u need to bring your own towel pls be aware. I am staying here again in couple days.
- Hayden (6/5): - Room was a little dirty, as well as my window and blinds were broken and would not shut. Being on the first floor this was not the greatest. Other than that, solid stay for the price
- clifford (4/5): - Dear Knox,
I was staying in room 420 & my name is Clifford Ulmer. I checked out early this morning, Tuesday, but found the doors locked and no security guard on duty, contrary to what I was told at check in.
I was able to exit the building and I put the keys in the mailbox outside the front door.
Please acknowledge that you received the keys so I don't get charged for them.
Thanks.
Clifford Ulmer
- Charles (8/5): - Student residence in downtown Toronto. Bargain accommodation convenient to everything in the area. Two 'watch-for' items: 1) bring towels & toiletries and 2) no air conditioning.
Quiet, clean and very affordable option for an expensive city.
- Laura (8/5): - This is a great stay for solo travelers who aren't looking for many amenities. I was able to walk to most of the places I wanted to go (some 30-40 minutes but I didn't mind). The only thing was the condition of the bathroom was not great. It was often a bit flooded and visibly dirty. However, I would still recommend this for a more low maintenance traveler.
- Craig (10/5): - The price is excellent. Rooms are spacious and clean.
- Kendall (10/5): - The buildings were stunning and very clean!
- Kirk (8/5): UT Knox. Try it - you will like it - Lost cost, safe. It’s a dorm. But really ok.
- A (10/5): - It was the perfect place to stay for my budget, to attend a conference and have a simple but attractive and comfortable place to sleep.
- Elina (10/5): - Great location and very affordable. The rooms had character and felt safe.
Be prepared for it to be bit noisy because of the old character of the building.
- Kino (10/5): - The residency locates within the UoT campus in St. Georges, which is super convenient.
- Matt (10/5): - Great stay. loved the room
